why it's causing tnsping 2010????From the Metric Reference Manual
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/em.121/e25160/oracle_listener.htm#CCHCCDHJ
Response Time (msec)
This metric represents the time (in milliseconds) that it takes for the Listener to respond to a network request (ping).
By default, this metric has a critical threshold of 100 and a warning threshold of 80. A critical alert is generated when the metric value exceeds the critical threshold value 1 time. A warning alert is generated when the metric value exceeds the warning threshold value 1 time. You can edit the value for a threshold as required.
By default, Enterprise Manager tests the value of this metric every 24 hours.
When an alert is generated, the alert text is:
Listener response to a TNS ping is %value% msecs
Data Source
The value of this metric is derived using the TNSPING command.

Listener response to a TNS ping is 144140 msecs
Hi Gurus,
I am using Oracle 10gR2 on Windows2003 64 Bit. Some times i am getting " Listener response to a TNS ping is 144140 msecs " alert from database control windows. At the time of error users are not able to access the database but after sometimes it automatically gets cleared.
This is happening very frequently and production users are facing problem. Can somebody help me in getting the resolution for this.
Thanks
VivekCompare "tnsping" timings with "ping" timings. Collect samples at frequent intervals and see if you can discern a pattern -- for example, is it a network timeout or a firewall timeout after N minutes or is at a certain times of the day.

Listener response to a TNS ping
We are receiving an EM Alert quite frequently with the following info
Severity=Critical
Message=Listener response to a TNS ping is 330 msecs
Rule Name=Listerner Status
The listener is working fine but we keep getting this alert, any suggestions or comments of why it is happening or how to stop it?
thanks
shaYou're getting it becuase the response time is 330msecs!!
If you feel you should not be alerted for this, just edit the metric accordingly and put a higher value in for the critical state.
Not difficult -

I am getting this aletr in Ent. mgr

What is this and how to bring it down
Chaand Kackriapossibly you (or em) did reload the listener to read the configuration file. In that moment, the tnsping can take up to a few seconds

Hi,
i'm getting this alert when i try to connect Oracle10g database.
thanksI’m using Windows Advanced Server 2000 operating system. This server is in domain network. I have installed oracle10g database 10.1.0.2.0 and oracle10g developer suite on same server in different homes
When I try to connect oracle from Oracle10g database home there is a no problem but from oracle10g developer suite home it’s takes long time to connect database around 1 min.
I tried both ip address and name but result is same.
There is no LDAP server and CITRIX involved.

Hi.
AIX 5.2 / 9i.
I can connect to our DEV instance if I go to the server itself, no problem.
If I try with SQL*Plus then I get the old "no listner" response.
If I try "lsnrctl status" on the server I get:

The line in bold worries me. I have just cloned this DEV instance from TEST, and the /oradbi2/oracle path is the TEST instance not the DEV.
I have run adcfgclone almost to the end but it terminated with a connection failure.
I have been discusing this with Metalink but for the last 3 hours I have heard nothing from them. So I thought I would give you unpaid experts a shot.
Thanks for any advice in advance.No - that apps listener issue is (on advise of ML) to be left until we complete the cloning.
You are right - there is an issue with permissions, but then I expect there would be because the listener on oradbi2 is owned by a different user since its on another instance (TEST).
The problem is that the DEV user is still looking at TEST (we cloned from TEST).
Perhaps this is because the adcfgclone script did not finish 100%.
I dont know which .env file I might take a look at to ensure that DEV points to oradbi3 and not oradbi2.
Actually, I just did a reload and now when I try Status it is pointing to the right destination (oradbi3)

It claims to be set to port 1521, yet when I go to the listner.ora file itself, it is listening on port 1525, which is what I set it to in the adcfgclone.pl stage.

The FormsListener response time is unacceptable
We are getting this critical message on Response time metrics under all metrics on FORMS screen on Oracle Enterprise Grid Control.
Message:
The FormsListener response time is unacceptable.
On one of the server we are getting this message at every 2 minutes followed by a message saying 'CLEARED-The FormsListener response time is unacceptable'.
We are using Oracel Application server 10g (9.0.4) on Windows 2003
Did any one got this message?
I tried to search on metalink and on google but did not fine anything helpful.
Any help would be appreciated.

Oracle Enterprise Manager TNSPING Metric
Hi All,
I wonder tns ping metric on OEM is actually representing data for TNSPING to database server from which server?
I'm not really mastering this topic, really appreciate your answer.
Thanks.
Regards,
JollyThe listener "Response" metric evaluates "tnsPing" and "Status". These metrics are evaluated by the agent, and it does this by running the script lsnrresp.pl which is located in:
<install location of agent>/plugins/oracle.sysman.db.agent.plugin_<latest plugin version>/scripts
eg. on my machine this is /oracle/12cagent/plugins/oracle.sysman.db.agent.plugin_12.1.0.2.0/scripts
ie. so lsnrresp.pl is run on the machine where the agent/database/listener resides.
Although it's running on the local machine it is still making a tcp/ip connection (ie. it's doing the equivalent of:-
tnsping "(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=machine1.oracle.com)(PORT=1522))"
You can manually run this same tnsping command yourself from a database home of a remote machine (the machine where you're having difficulties from) and compare the difference.
Make sure that you use the same hostname and port when you run the tnsping command manually as EM is using. You can find out which host and port EM is using by either checking:-
a) the targets.xml (from the machine where the listener is located) -
eg.
<Target TYPE="oracle_listener" NAME="LISTENER11203_machine1.uk.oracle.
com" DISPLAY_NAME="LISTENER11203_machine1.uk.oracle.com" ON_HOST="" EMD_URL="h
ttps://machine1.uk.oracle.com:3872/emd/main/" TIMEZONE_REGION="" IDENTIFIER="T
ARGET_GUID=881E917E1CE1D3BECC361599ACDAEEEB">
<Property NAME="Machine" VALUE="machine1.uk.oracle.com"/>
<Property NAME="Port" VALUE="1522"/>
<Property NAME="LsnrName" VALUE="LISTENER11203"/>
<Property NAME="ListenerOraDir" VALUE="/oracle/orabase/11203rdbms
/network/admin"/>
or
b) go to Enterprise Manager, go to targets/all targets. Select your listener, click on it (will take you to the listener home page).
Then once on the listener home page, go to 'oracle listener' (drop down menu), pick "target setup"/"Monitoring Configuration"
It would be interesting to run the tnsping command manually from the problem machine (if you have a database home on that machine) and also to just do a 'general' ping from the problem machine to the database machine, and then do the same tnsping and ping command from the database machine itself and compare the difference. It might also be useful to repeat this on both machines but using ipaddress and see if you see any difference in the response time. Also check that the hostname is resolving in the same way (eg. same dns etc.). And to check whether any firewalls are involved.

Oracle HTTP Server and mod_plsql
Hi there,
I have a problem using HTML DB on a small network. LAN consists of two computers with Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 1. Server has two NIC. One connected to the local internet provider (PPPoE) with TCP/IP set to "Obtain an IP address automatically" and second network adapter (for the LAN) with TCP/IP address 192.168.0.2. Second computer has NIC with IP 192.168.0.3. The server is set with HTML DB 2.0. There is NO ANY problem if I work on it as stand alone computer - second network adapter disable!
The problem arises if I connect the second computer and then start HTML DB by http://localhost:7777/ "503 the service is temporary unavailable", emagent is down, DBconsole service is not active anymore, etc. Apache or Oracle HTTP Server is up.
I have found, after several days of troubleshooting, that the problem might be in httpd.config file. If somebody have experience in similar networks or Oracle HTTP Server settings please, give me advice or send httpd.conf file as an example.
Please help me!
KonstantinHi,
If I disable the network adapters and restart the computer, then connect to the HTML DB or my application, everything is OK. Then enable connection and I can work from both computers!

The dad.conf is empty because I am using marvel.conf. I just checked the rules to build such file. Listener uses as host name - computer name (in my case koncomp), but in all config files Oracle HTTP Server uses name localhost or 127.0.0.1. That is the reason for SYSMAN to make too separate folders in Oracle home named LOCALHOST_instancename and hostname_instanceename.

How to clear non-stateless incident ?
Any option I may clear those incidents 'not' stateless incident or purging policy I may use for 'OPEN' incident ?
For example, I would like to clear the incident already marked 'resolved' like
'/u01 available space less than 7%'.
' listener response to TNS ping is xxxxxxx msecs'
Everyday when I examine the incident manager, no matter the incident resolved or new, I found those incidents are remained 'open' and seems not purging automatically.For a "stateful" incident - the system has to report a clear before we can clear the incident.
In your case, you can create a custom view which includes all open states other than "Resolved" and then use that on a daily basis to track your open and unresolved incidents.

I don't know the exact reason but my OWAS installation is

Tip: Stopping listener in response to a Message
I wanted to control a standalone server using JMS messages. For instance, tell it to suspend processing or shut down.
But you can't call Connection.stop() from within a MessageListener - it throws an IllegalStateException. So I found a little trick that got me over - do it from a different Thread.
public class ServerMessageListener implements MessageListener
static ServerToolkit toolkit = new ServerToolkit();
public void onMessage( final Message inMsg )
try {
ServerCommand cmd = ServerFactory.makeCommand( inMsg );
if( cmd != null ) {
if( cmd.getType() == SUSPEND_CMD : {
// TODO browse broker to purge any other Suspend messages
toolkit.console(" ML received Suspend message. Stopping connection.");
new Thread() {
@Override
public void run() {
try {
// sleep(50);
toolkit.getConnection().stop();
catch( Exception ex ) {}
}.start();
catch( Exception ex ) { ex.printStackTrace(); }
finally {
try { inMsg.acknowledge(); }
catch( JMSException ex ) { ex.printStackTrace(); }
}Now I have to figure out a way to get it to resume...Hi,
I don't think you'll be able to achieve this natively in Lync. The only thing that comes to mind is to define a custom presence state that you could have Tier 1 Help Desk change to in the event of this happening. This would only be a proactive measure though,
and not reactive in providing an auto response.
Looks like you'd either need to jump in and create something leveraging the Lync API's yourself, or see if there's an auto-responder / bot plugin out there already that can do this for you.
I'm not familiar with any myself, but top of a quick google-fu moment pulled up
http://lyncauto.blogspot.co.uk/
I must stress I've never used this, but its this type of app that might offer you the functionality you're after. I'm sure others here might be able to recommend something that's proven.
Kind regards
Ben
