Listening (or not) to music samples
When I try to listen to a short sample of a song in the Music Store, I get no more than 3 or 4 seconds of music, song stops for buffering and I get another 4 second bit. And so on...never get the full sample.
I use a dial-up connection and have had no trouble listening to samples on Amazon with Windows Media, for example. And have had no trouble downloading from iTunes.
Any help would be appreciated,
Bob
I had the same problem. Pre-listening stops after 7 sec. A have a broadband connection. After select "load full preivew before playing" it work perfect.
MANY THANKS.

Why does listening to music samples in iTunes Store not work?
When listening to music samples in iTunes Store does not work this may be caused by the security settings in your antivirus software.
In my case, the GData Antivirus Kit supported the realtime check of HTTP content. Obviously this caused a timeout in iTunes and the sample didn't play. There was no error message in iTunes store, just silence!
Deactivate the realtime antivirus check of HTTP content and everything works fine.Any similar difficulties in other Antivirus- / Internet Security packages?

Recently can't play music samples on Amazon France (and Germany, though they've now gone over to Flash, which seems to have fixed it after (re)installing Flash Player) via their usual 'Listen to all' button. Can only play samples individually. Message says roughly RealPlayer not installed on my navigator (see box below), but I've changed nothing and have always had RealPlayer on my PC at least. The 'Aid' page is useless in that it does not provide any links to sites from which one could download whatever it is Amazon Fr thinks one now needs.
== URL of affected sites ==
http://www.amazon.fr (e.g. http://www.amazon.fr/Je-Souviens-Tout-Juliette-Greco/dp/B001PU6T04/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1277978559&sr=1-1)Hello Neil.
It has been reported by other uses that RealPlayer is having some compatibility problems with Firefox. I believe this is mostly notorious with RealPlayer Plugin Record Plugin, but it may be the same thing here. Please contact RealPlayer developers for support. -
How do I browse and listen to music samples in the iTunes Store on Apple TV 2
I have an ATV2 and want to browse and listed to music samples in the iTunes Store as I did before, did this change or is there something that I need to setup to do this?
Why do I not see this feature?
ThanksYou can't. This has never been possible on an ATV 2 as you can't purchase music on it. You can use home-sharing or airplay to stream local music or you can stream music via iCloud on ATV with iTunes Match subscription.

When I enter the music app, I just want to listen to the music that I've downloaded onto my device, not old music I don't want, but is still shown for streaming. Any help/ideas? I don't want to have to go offline just to listen to the music I want to listen to everytime

Why would you have to go offline to listen to music? Dosn't make sense.
However, you can set the app up to just show you tracks that are actually on the device: Settings app > Music > Show All Muisc [turn OFF] -
Why does the iPad Mini not have music play count?
I bought an iPad Mini and also have a macbook. I had listened to various music on my iPad Mini the other day, however when I connected the iPad Mini to the Macbook and iTunes via the lightning connector to sync, it synced the ratings I gave the songs I listened to on the mini, but no play count, as if I had not listened to anything. I hope there is something I can do about this as I often look at my play count!!

It should work work but these kind of bugs pop up between updates, both hardware and software. Try closing all apps in the recently used list on the iPad. Double tap the Home button, tap and hold one of the icons at the bottom till they wiggle then tap the to close them. Tap the Home button to get back to the Home screen then hold the sleep button till you see the slide to power off message. Once it has powered down completely hold the Sleep button till the Apple icon appears.

Re: Why does the iPad Mini not have music play count?
Nov 18, 2012 11:34 AM (in response to Katrina UK)
Does it even really matter...?
Many people including myself rely on playcounts to control smart playlist to manage large libraries. Smart playlists can be created to show your most or least played tracks and used more or less as your favorites or other uses. Along with playcounts the date is transferred so to keep a fresh list of music on my smaller iPods a smart playlist set to songs not played in the last month keeps some fresh tunes on it.
Playcounts are also used to manage Podcasts in iTunes to delete older episode. Bookmarks, which can also be effected by this, can mess up audiobooks, movies and podcast playback between different devices. So yes, it does matter. -
IPhone 4 using iOS 6.0.1 will not play music through my car stereo
I have an iPhone 4 since it became available on Verizon's network. I have had no issues with my phone since I began using it. I own a 2008 VW Rabbit with the optional iPhone/iPod docking station to play music through the car's stereo. I purchased a docking extention cable because my phone would not fit on the docking connector properly due to my phone case. Everything has been working beautifully, sans the charging feature, until a few weeks ago. Normally, I would start the iPod app, load the song or playlist I want to play, and plug it in to begin hearing my music. However, recently the music stopped playing through my car speakers and only played through the built-in speakers on my phone once plugged into the docking station. I have tried hard-rebooting (holding home button/sleep button at same time until Apple logo appears), soft rebooting (holding sleep button to slide power off), exiting all open apps, opening/closing iPod app, changing different settings through the Settings app, etc. I am at my wits' end. I use my phone to listen to my loaded music, Pandora and Slacker Radio. It has gotten really boring listening to local radio during my commutes. Please Community, help me!
i have same problem in UK - my phone no longer works with my car cable - it will charge the phone, my ipad works fine, as does my old itouch so I know that the cable is ok. It comes up with no connection even though it is charging it. It used to be fine I dont understand why this would happen?

How can I listen to my iTunes music on my IPAD without a wireless signal?
I have an ipad, version 4.2.1. Why can't I listen to the itunes songs I put into the ipad when I don't have a wireless signal? I can't advance past the "itunes store" screen. I synced it to my iMac, running 10.6.5. All the songs are there. I do not have wireless at home, nor do I plan on getting it. Is there a way to listen to my itunes music in Airplane mode? Also, at my job at a middle school, the ipad is much worse at finding our wireless signal than our Macbooks are. Any ideas?
iTunes application on your computer does everything.
It's for the iTunes store as well as playing songs, movies, aduiobooks, etc.
iTunes app on the iPad is for the iTunes store only.
iPod app on the iPad is for playing songs and audiobooks.
Video app on the iPad is for Movies, TV Shows, music videos. -
My iPhone will not play music. Whenever I try to play music through the speakers on my iPhone it won't let me adjust the volume (like it's connected to a dock) and when I do connect it to a dock, the music plays through the iPhone speakers. Also I've tried just listening to my music through earphones and it plays for around 6 seconds then it goes back to like it's connected to a dock. Help? I've tried turning it off and on, restarting it and even restoring it and nothing's worked.
It says this when not connected to the dock. His dock is an ihome which isn't an official Apple dock. I think my next step is to take the thing in to an Apple store.

TNS-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
there was a entry in /etc/hosts which was directing primary.swapnilkambli.com to 127.0.01
This was because I created this OS from a Virtual box template wherein that entry was made.
I changed the /etc/hosts to refelct the true address and it worked!! -
I have had IPhones since their inception. Last phone was the 5. A few months ago, I upgraded to the 6 Plus.
Here is my issue.
On my 5, my car radio (which has USB port) allowed me to plug in and listen to radio or music from my phone and the bonus was it charged the phone as well. All worked great.
Now with the 6 Plus, neither of things work. The message on the radio (Kenwood) says I Pod error. The message on my phone say's "this device is supported".
I have called on this before and was told you are aware and that the issue will be addressed in a future update. There have been several updates on IOS 8 and the issue remains.I have a Kenwood KDC-X695. When I purchased this stereo and had it installed, I had an ATT iPhone 4.
It worked with the stereo, but had a few issues. I had purchased a few audio books that I would listen to while driving. When I plugged it in it would immediately begin to play the book from the beginning or if I had been listening to music, it would start playing the song that was at the top of the song list.
The stereo came equipped with Firmware version 3.05. I upgraded to the iPhone 5 a year later. I had that phone for approximately 2 years. The song or book issue remained the same.
I just recently upgraded to the iPhone 6 and the Bluetooth function still works, however the USB port on the stereo that the phone plugs into to allow files on the phone to play through the stereo no longer works.
I contacted the service provider (Verizon) and after speaking to several different technical support technicians, they provided me the phone numbers for Kenwood and Apple because they were unable to help me.
I spoke with Kenwood technical support the following day and after a few fumbling miscues from the technical advisor, it was suggested that I upgrade the firmware, even though the Kenwood literature warns against this if the Bluetooth portion is working, because if there is a problem with the upgrade, it can render the Bluetooth useless and non-functional. The advisor did suggest the latest firmware on the second or third attempt, after I pointed out what I was able to glean from my initial search.
Later that day, I went back to the Kenwood site (from their homepage) and by using their selection tools, discovered that this particular model was only ever intended to be used with the iPhone 4S (the technical advisor was not aware of this, even though I mentioned this during my phone call earlier in the day). According to the Firmware selection tool, my iPhone 5 should not have worked with it.
I performed the Firmware upgrade, and it took 13 minutes. This was less than the 15 minutes that was forecast in the Kenwood literature. The Bluetooth still works but the USB cable connection still causes the unsupported device message that I received prior to the upgrade. I am incredibly annoyed and disappointed.
By upgrading to the iPhone 6, I have three choices; (1) only use the Bluetooth for phone calls without the ability to play other files from my iPhone 6 (2) forced obsolescence of my stereo, requires buying a new stereo (3) return my iPhone 6 and go back to my iPhone 5.
I do not believe that I should have to be a software/Firmware/hardware engineer, vetting every single device that I own; prior to upgrading a cell phone.
I am incredibly annoyed with Apple at the moment.
I have a separate Bluetooth headset that worked with both my iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 that the iPhone 6 simply does not recognize. That is another story for another time.
Currently, I am incredibly underwhelmed with Apple. -
Can't listen to Spotify or music on my iphone 4s
Can't listen to Spotify or music on my iphone 4s, but I can listen to voicememo and I can hear it when someone is calling. I can't change the volume on the side either.. :o( Whats wrong? I have restored it for an hour ago.. For a month ago I just had to turn the iphone off and on and then it worked...
When I'm playing Rumble/Russle I started to take of the volume on the side so I should not wake somebody up and from that it has been worse..
I hop someone can help me...
//PluttanA little late but an easy trick I discovered in iTunes.
It doesnt work with every station but for example:
if you want to listen to stations on iTunes radio on your mobile device try this, when you have the station playing on iTunes
Right click the top header where it shows the title of the station and the track info ( right under the iTunes logo)
Select get info
In the Summary Tab you will see "Where" with a URL
Take the URL and type it into your browser address bar.
If the URL contains a ".extension" such as ".m3u" leave that part off when putting it into the address bar in your browser.
Like I said sometimes It works and sometimes it doesnt. Obviously you cannot browse the stations like you can in iTunes unfortunately but if you find stations that you like just make a bookmark folder with all these and sync them across all your iOS devices.

My volume automatically turns itself all the way down whenever I start my ipod (even when I'm not playing music). As soon as I slide my ipod into opening the volume goes all the way down. Even if it's already completely off, the audio icon comes on the screen, which tells me the ipod is still trying to lower the volume. As I said, I don't even have to be listening to music. I can be on the opening screen. When I turn the volume back up, it immediatley turns it back down. It only doesn't go down if I physically hold my finger to volume bar on the touch screen.
And yes, I've updated all my software (on my ipod and laptop). I've also entirely reset my ipod twice.
Tell me, is it time to ditch the ipod and find some other sort of mp3 player (this is one problem at the end of a long list of less debilitating but equally annoying issues I've had with my 2 ipod touches)Yeah, I probably mean restore. Multiple times though!
Also, I forgot to mention that this issue persists regardless of whether or not my headphones are plugged in. -
HELP, I have listened to the same music for 4 years.
I have an older ipod (10KG, no color) and I downloaded a bunch of great music 4 years ago through itunes but on my parents computer, and when I moved out the music got erased.
I really want to download new stuff to the iPod but im afraid of loosing whats on it when I connect to my current iTunes. The manual said as soon as you connect the iPod to the computer it will take what is on your iTunes.
Is there a way to keep what I have and still get more/ newer stuff.
Please help I have been listening to the same music for 4 years!

10 K- no color Windows XPConnect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
TuneJack Windows Only
iPod2PC Windows Only
iGadget Windows Only
iDump Windows Only
iRepo Windows Only
iPodRip Mac & Windows
YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay. -
