Listening to iPhone music thru iTunes

I usually use my iPod and do this but I am wondering why I can't do this with my iPhone. My main library is at home and I sync both my iPhone and iPod with that library. When I come into work I plug in both my iPhone and iPod. My music show up thru iTunes with my iPod just fine and I can play anything on my iPod. When I plug in my iPhone my music showes up all grey and I can't play anything thru itunes that is on it. This is really stupid if you ask me if they locked out this feature. I want to be able to play my iphone music thru iTunes. Is this possable?

They are all like that. Your iPhone is behaving normally.
Is your coworkers iPod Touch syncing music with his work computer? If so, the music will not be greyed out and will work as you are seeing. The iPhone and Touch will have the songs playable only with the library with which they sync.

  • Can't play iPhone music in iTunes

I put my music on my iPhone, but when connected to iTunes, I cannot play them. I see all of the songs, but they are "grey-ed out". Anyone know how to fix this? I'd like to listen my iPhone at work.

Controlling your music using your keyboard that you already have your fingers on, and hearing other notification sounds, etc. coming out of your computer when you are listening to your music is pretty significant - if you sit in front of your computer all day.
Besides, 90% of headphones don't plug into the iPhone with that fancy recessed jack.
I understand the technical challenge of the iPhone being hot-pluggable and trying to play music of it that may not be there at any given point (or incoming call, etc), but there definitely is a good reason to request that it work. Especially if you have been using it that way for the past 4+ years.

  • IPhone music library - itunes

I just bought a new laptop, how do i transfer my music from my iPhone 4 to itunes? I've tried 'Transfer Purchases' and 'Sync', both do not transfer songs to my itunes.
    Thanks!

Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to the new one.

  • Iphone music to itunes? don't know how

I try to put my music from my iphone onto my itunes, but I don't know how -.-

    Hi Marlene!
I've had this once too... you have to go to your home screen, and push the bottom key twice (like you would double click on your computer) and then you'll see some icons on the bottom of the screen. Swish left (by dragging the icons to the right) and there you are! You'll find the buttoms for forward, backward and play / stop.

  • Listening to iPhone music in car

Are there any accessories yet that allow you to listen to your iPhone music in the car (or your home) by transmitting through the radio like there are for iPods?

Sorry to differ with the previous answer, but I have had no luck with the fm converter. The iPhone seems to generate a lot of fm static, and in my area, there are very few open frequencies. One of my cars has a cassette player, and that converter works well. In the other with only a radio and CD, I haven't found a good solution yet. Crutchfield sells conversion kits for the factory radios to put in an auxilliary plug, and also a $200 Alpine fm unit that supposedly works well. It's a leased car, so I don't feel like removing the radio and making changes, and $200 for the bulky alpine unit doesn't sound great either. I'm still looking for a better solution.

  • Why am I forced to be connected to internet in order to listen to purchased music with iTunes on iPad? I have wifi only iPad.

I tried listening to my music with my wi-fi only ipad on iTunes while driving my car. iTunes said I needed to be connected to the Internet in order to find the iTunes store. I don't want the iTunes store, I just want to listen to my music on iPad. Can I bypass the need to be connected and just get to the music? If not..... WHY NOT????

You don't need the internet to listen to your music. You're probably trying to access the iTunes store app, you need to go to the iPod app, and that is where your music will be if you have synced it over from your computer or purchased it directly.

  • HT1386 can you sync iphone music to itunes desktop? I am getting warned that the library will be erased?

Can you re-load/sync the music library to a newly loaded/blank itunes? I am getting warned the library will be erased?

The warning is correct, take it seriously.  If you have a new computer, you need to transfer the iPhone files to it from your old computer.  See these links:

  • Computer won't play music thru itunes, CD's nor library???

itunes will not play anything, and my computer won't play CD's either. It's like it doesn't even recogonize that there is a CD in the drive. I checked and the driver seems to be there in the list of programs, but it won't work. can't import CD's to itunes or play them. but the wierdest part is my computer won't play the music I have in my itunes library either. No go. what could the matter be?

Sometimes, my computer would be a pain and it took me forever to for the CD to load. About the playing music thing I don't know, but I think the not recognizing CDs is pretty normal. Unless you have a really high speed computer, have you tried defragging it?

  • Reset Apple ID on my iphone 5s thru itunes. However, I can not change my apple ID for my icloud account on 5S. pl help

Please help with changing Apple ID for icloud account on iPHone 5S. I have reset my Apple ID on iphone using itunes and app tab on settings.

    Hello there, KunnufromAndover.
The following Knowledge Base article provides great information on steps to take after you've made changes to your Apple ID:
Apple ID: What to do after you change your Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5796
    iCloud
iOS 6 and later: Go to Settings > iCloud.
If you signed out before changing your Apple ID, enter your current Apple ID to sign in. The data from your iCloud account will download to your device.
If you're still signed in with your previous Apple ID:
Scroll down and tap Delete Account. Depending on what iCloud options are turned on, you'll be asked to confirm that you want to delete data from your device. To confirm, tap Delete. (If you're using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone turned on, you'll be asked to enter the password for your previous Apple ID. Enter the password, then tap Turn Off.) The data will be deleted from your device, but not from iCloud.
Enter your current Apple ID to sign in. The data from your iCloud account will download again to your device.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Problems converting my iPhotos from iPhone 3 to iPhone 4 thru iTunes

My MacBookPro had 5GB of space before I started tranferring everything from iP3 to iP4. During the transfer, everything moved from the 3 to the 4 EXCEPT my photos. I have about 6000 of them. It kept saying something about "optimizing" them for the iPhone 4. Fine. But now my MacBookPro has ONLY 34 MB of space left. Where did the 5GB go and how do I get my photos moved over?
    Thanks

  • Can I listen to different music on my computer while Apple TV is playing?

    Hi,
I don't see anything in the literature online that answers this question, so I'm hoping someone who own's a 2nd Gen Apple TV can answer this. Here's what I'd like to do:
    1. Listen to classical music from iTunes on my computer while working in my home office; and
    2. Allow my kids to listen to holiday music from iTunes on my computer via AppleTV in the family room.
I currently use an Airport Express to stream music from my computer to the family room, but we both have to listen to the same music. If I switch playlists, they hear it out there, too.
I'm hoping the Apple TV can access my iTunes library (with Home Sharing) to stream music without requiring iTunes to be playing the exact same music on the computer speakers.
Anyone know if this is possible, or willing to give it a quick try?
    Thank you,
    Pete
