Listening to iPod nano while recharging?

Hi everyone.
I have my iPod nano connected to a set of speakers in my office.
When I need to recharge it, I connect it via the USB port to my PC (no iTunes installed) in my office.
My question is:
if the iPod is playing music while connected to the USB port for recharging, will it use power from the battery?
thanks

there are many car stereo places that can hook your ipod up to your present car stereo. Then all you have to do is plug it in. Not sure of the price, got mine done here in Mexico for less then 30 dollars U.S. and love it now. Just had it done two days ago. Great, no more tape or fm for me.

  • Listening to iPod Nano through Laptop audio system

I sync my iPod Nano to my home desktop computer, and while on the road like to listen to my iPod's music library through my notebook's audio system while my iPod is charging.
This use to be easy; just connect my iPod to my notebook, click on my iPod's name in the devices column, and the music library on my iPod would show up to be played on my notebook. However, after upgrading to the latest version of iTunes on both my systems, the music library on my iPod is greyed out and I am unable to listen to the music on my iPod through my notebooks audio system.
The above are on Windows XP systems.
Is there something that I am missing? Thanks for your help!

Chances are when you upgraded your iPod sync preferences got re-set to the default which is auto sync. In order to listen to the iPod's content through your PC, you will have to have your iPod set for "manually manage.".

  • How can you charge the ipod Nano while in a docking station?

My old ipod classic would charge while in the docking station or when connected to the power cord in my vehicle.  The new ipod Nano does not seem to do this.  Can this be fixed so that it will charge while in a docking station?

Depending if you have apple care then you should be able to replace it. Or, it could be the cord that you are plugging it in with/ docking station. It ma not work also.
    I hoped this helped

  • Do I leave my iPod on while recharging?

I need to know if I leave my iPod shuffle on while recharging or off or what? Thank u

As far as I know, the iPod shuffle doesn't need to be turned on while charging, so you can turn it off

  • Listening from iPod mini while connected

My computer speakers are broken so I was wondering how to listen to the music from my iPod mini while its connected to my computer and I'm doing stuff in iTunes. I can't find an option in iTunes and I've tried plugging the headphones straight into my computer but no luck. any ideas?

You will need to set the iPod to manually update your music. Then you will be able to listen to your iPod when it's hooked up to your computer.
If you're running iTunes 7.0 just follow these directions.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/7.0/en/2580.html
You'll then be able to browse and listen to your music on the iPod like you would if it was on your computer.

  • Electricution while listening to IPOD Nano (3rd Generation 8G)

I have had this problem occur three times in the past week. I will be walking on the street or getting on the bus and I will feel an electricution in my ear. It will be so bad that I have to take the earbud out of my ear. When I put the earbud back in it is fine again. I have checked to ensure everything is plugged in and that the ipod is working correct. Nothing seems to be out of place or working incorrectly when this is happening.
If anybody has seen this or know if there is a fix to this please let me know.

I use to get shocked from my Sony earphones plugged in the treadmill while running at the gym. It all started after they got put through the washing machine. It is quite annoying to get shocked in the ears. Totally agree, try some other earbuds.

  • IPod Nano not recharging via USB connector.

I just got a 4 GB 2nd Gen Nano, and it's working like a charm thusfar, except for one problem.
When I plug it into its USB connector, it will sync with my music library just fine, but won't recharge. I have a seperate, 3rd party charger for my car which works just fine, but I'd rather not leave my iPod in my car just to charge it up.
I'm running Windows 2000 on an older model system.

I have the same problem, and followed the steps in"iPod: Proper charging procedures for Windows 2000", but my nano will still not charge.
I bought a nano a month ago and ran into this problem. It used to recharge just fine via PC and USB cable, or AC adapter. But for some reason, after a month, it just stopped. So, I excharned it today for a new one. Unfortunately, I'm having the same problem with the new one. It on'y charges when it is syncing with iTunes. As soon as it's done automatically syncing, it stops recharging.
    Any ideas?

  • Using an iPod nano while mowing the grass?

What's the best iPod holder and earphones for use while mowing the grass with a self-propelled push mower?
Right now I'm using the enclosed iPod earphones, which have no external noise suppression and I'm simply putting the ipod in my pocket, which makes controlling it difficult. Plus, my earphones are frequently getting yanked out because of the hanging cord.

You can always update your version of iTunes to 4.9 or 5.0 and it won't affect your existing playlists, song ratings, or anything. I started with 4.7 and got each updated version of iTunes as it came out thru 5.0 and I never lost any songs, data, or had to rebuild a playlist.

  • Accidentally ejected ipod nano while syncing and now it's frozen.

The iPod screen is now stuck on the "don't eject it now" admonition. It won't turn on, off, or do anything--it's just frozen. What happened was I minimized iTunes while it was syncing and that seems to have caused it to try to eject. How do I get it to wake up? Thank you for any help.

Try doing a hard restart on the iPod (how depends on which generation unit you have).  You may also need to connect OT to the computer and do a restore.

  • Listen iPod nano in the car

Hello, I want to listen my iPod nano in my Subaru Legacy car. I've bought USB to aux cable, connected one end to iPod and another end to car's USB port. It does not recognize iPod as USB device. Please advice how could I connect my iPod to USB in the car?

Is your head unit in the Legacy iPod compatilble. If yes does it require a special cable?
    Your solution could not work.

  • IPod nano not fully functional on Windows 2000 (Charging)

1st: I love iTunes and my previous iPod mini. My mini functioned perfectly from day one with my exact same desktop setup (Windows 2000, Dell, USB 2.0, etc).
I've spent hours trying to figure out why my nano wouldn't charge. Finally, I found these forums and read that "Windows 2000 has a bug". I say this is utter nonsense. I had a mini for months on the exact same computer/OS and it charged just fine thank you.
The only way that I can charge my nano (hopefully it will work, the indicator is essentially useless on win2k) is to enable disk mode and watch the flashing "Do Not Disconnect..." symbol across most of the screen, with a tiny, non-animated battery+lightning bolt icon in the corner. Is it charged? I don't know. Is it actually charging? I don't know. Will I know when it's 80% charged - as per the advertising specs for a fast-charge? Nope - will just have to guess.
What about listening to my nano while it's docked/connected? Nope - can't do that on Windows 2000. Can I try any of the features, games, or hear how a song sounds while docked? Nope.
Apple: With iTunes and the mini, you had a full Mac convert waiting for my next computer purchase to get an iBook. Now, I'm not soo sure. Windows 2000 is on tons of computers - I would guess a pretty large proportion of your iPod customer base even compared with OSX. If you can't fix this bug, and I know you can given that the mini functioned perfectly, I will demand a full refund and unhappily go get a refub mini (now that I sold mine the day I went out to get a nano).

I'm in the same boat as Noah (Win2K, charging problems, etc.). And the moment I unmount my nano (using either of the methods you mention above), it stops charging. At least I assume it is actually charging while mounted, because I have the lightning bolt but no way to see how much of a charge unless I unmount it. But I can't listen to music while I have it plugged in, and that is sure a disappointment. Apple people, please fix!
As a little aside, I don't seem to be able to choose whether or not to "enable disk use". The box is already checked and grayed-out so I don't have the option to un-check it. Could this be another Win2K weirdness?

  • HT1320 iPod Nano 2nd Gen isn't detected by any computer using any cable

    Hi all,
Discovered a 2nd gen ipod nano while digging out the christmas decorations - it powers up and charges through the cable when plugged into either a power outlet or a computer, but the computer will not detect the device at all.
I've tried two different PCs, and two different cables but still nothing.
Normally, if a device is plugged in, a notification message and sound are displayed and played, but Windows see no devices in the device manager, and itunes doesn't pickup any devices either.

Try a different cable or contact apple

  • How can I get my ipod nano (6th gen) to stop making a static-y noise when I try to listen to my music? It has been doing this for a week and the music is faint while the static is louder than it.

It has been doing this for a week and the music is faint while the static is louder than it. I try plugging it in to my iTunes and when I un-plug it, it still makes the loud static noise. I have also tried tapping my knuckle on the back of my ipod nano. This has not damaged it at all nor caused this to my ipod. There is no water damage to the ipod. Only a few scratches from a couple drops. The drops have been on concrete but not at a very high distance. How to I stop this? Do I need to replace my ipod instead?

Have you tried a different pair of earbuds/headphones to rule out a pair of damaged/faulty ones?  You might also want to make sure the headphones are securely and firmly seated in Nano's headphone jack.  Lastly, check the headphone jack for any signs of debris or damage.  You may need to have the headphone jack replaced either by Apple or a third party repair company.
I assume this static is present on any track you listen to versus only particular ones?

Just a short note to say that this afternoon I downloaded iTunes 6.0. Big step as I had a major problem with 5.0 and rolled back to 4.9. Upgrade seems to work fine updating my 40g iPod Photo as expected. Hope you can share a bit of my good fortune!!
