Listening to ipod touch in car- bluetooth or FM?

hello,
i would like to listen to 3rd gen i-touch in the car.
I have a motorola HF850 car hands free kit (bought from carphone warehouse) and hoped this would pair with the touch, but no luck.
Have tried performing 'device discovery' on car kit, bluetooth on touch switched on, etc.
Have read that bluetooth on the touch might only work with headphones, how is this?
Will I just have to buy something to transmit the music on an open FM freq to car stereo?
I'm not very good at all this, and would be v grateful for any help

I bought a $60 device from Belkin that is supposed to transmit the iPod sound to an empty FM station.

I tested it INSIDE my garage where the FM reception of nearby stations is terrible. You can choose any FM frequency on the dial in 0.1 increments. I tried every single one but it seemed that no matter what "quiet" frequency I chose, a burst of static or noise would break through. The FM transmitter on this thing is just too weak to maintain a solid lock to your radio. I've had not much luck with anything made by Belkin these days and I ended up returning it. There is another brand that gets hard-wired into your car using the antenna jack on the back of the radio and it's supposed to be superior.
My car audio system is just average so I ended up using an old Sony cassette tape adapter from a Discman. It's got a standard mini-stereo jack and plugs right into the iPod. The sound is not bad... certainly better than the cr@p being pumped out of the Belkin FM adapter. Works well enough for casual listening.

and a cheap 2-star rated device from Belkin...

  • IPod touch in car adapter resets every time I start my car when plugged in

I have had an iPod touch since April 2008. I have an iPod adapter in my Audi A4 and I plug my iPod into this adapter and it plays through the speakers. When I had software version 2.0 the iPod worked great - I would be listening to a podcast or a song and when I turned the car off and back on it would pick up right where it left off.
However, since I installed version 3.0 onto my iPod it is resetting the iPod everytime I turn the car on. If the iPod touch is in the adapter when the car is started the iPod will reset and play the first song in my song list instead of what was playing when the car stopped or whatever was playing when I plugged it into the adapter and the car was off. Now I have to unplug the iPod just prior to starting my car to avoid resetting the iPod to play at the first song in the song list. (It doesn't reset the whole iPod, it just doesn't know what was being played and it goes to the first song in the alphabetical list of songs).

This is part of a list of known issues with Iphone OS 3.0. There are several posts both here in these forums and in the ilounge forums commenting about lost functionality with factory car adapters after the upgrade.
you will need to wait until 3.1 comes out to see if these issues get fixed.

  • I can't pair my ipod touch with a bluetooth headset zw88 as the device doesn't in the bluetooth board.

Few days ago I bought a chinese bluetooth headset zw88 (zonoko) as I read in its indications that it was able to use with an iPod but later I realised that the iPod touch 4G couldn't recognize this device. I would like to know how to make it works. Thanks.

What sometimes works is to remove all paired devices from the car and then re-pair them.
If that doesn't help, contact the car manufacturer/a local dealership and see if there's an update for your stereo to resolve the issue.

  • Voice memo playback low volume, ipod touch 4th gen bluetooth

After recording a voice memo on my ipod touch 4th gen.  I play it back on my bluetooth JBL flip.  Now when I playback sound levels are sometimes extremely quiet, and other times play at normal volume.  Volume on Ipod touch and JBL flip will be maxed out and still volume playback are extremely quiet.  I have tried turning off and on Ipod and not found anything work consistently at solving this issue.

Do you have a Phone? In your case i would save some money for an iPhone. Like i am doing now - i also got a 4G iPod.
Anyways if you really wanna go for another iPod, take the 5G now. The 5G is a big update from the 4G and Apple released it last year, so i think that the 6G will come in 2014.

  • Problems with iPhone 3G and iPod Touch with Car Stereos

There are three cars in our family, and every car as a stereo with built-in iPod interfaces. Car 1 has a Pioneer system, Car 2 has a Kenwood, and my car has an Alpine system. I can't hear any audio when I connect an iPod touch or iPhone 3G to the Kenwood and Pioneer systems. They can perform functions on the iPhone/iPod touch, such as change songs, randomize songs, repeat songs, etc, however, there is no audio. 80% of the time the Alpine does the same thing; 10% of the time an error is displayed on the head unit; and 10% the iPod Touch/iPhone works perfectly.
All three systems can operate my iPod Nano correctly without any problems at all. Because the same problem occurs to all the stereos and because the iPod Touch and iPhone are basically the same minus phone capabilities, I am beginning to believe that the problem is with them and not the stereo systems. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how can I fix it if it is fixable?

Which Touch (first or second generation) and which iPhone (2G or 3G)?
And what generation Nano are you testing with.
Your auto systems may not be compatible with the newer generation model iPods/Phones.

  • I get "Reading Error" when using USB connection from Ipod Touch to car radio. Any ideas?

I am trying to connect an IPOD Touch with my car radio via USB port.  Using proper cable which works.  When I connect the auto radio automatically tries to hook up with the Ipod but then displays "reading error"

The the car-system manyfacturer say it will work with your model iPod and its iOS?
    Not all do.

  • Why won't my brand-new iPod Touch connect via BlueTooth in my Volvo?  My old one did!

Very interesting, but frustrating, too.  The iPod shows (in Settings): Bluetooth On; devices--cell phone (not paired); MacBook (not paired). Nothing about the car.  In the car, it wants me to punch in a four-digit code.  HOW?  Where?
This is crazy because my old iPod does this.
    Anyone have a clue?

The iPod will not pair with a computer. The iPod will only pair with yur car is your car supports one of the BT profiles that is supported by the iPod
    iOS: Supported Bluetooth profiles
Does the manufacturer of the car system say it will work with your model iPod and its iOS?

  • IPod touch through car stereo

I have my iPod Touch connected to my car (Audi) through Audi's MMI interface. Since the 2.0 update, I notice that every time I change track, I get a burst of the previous track before the next track starts. Not a major problem, but a step backwards in the smoothness of operation I was used to.
Also - anyone know how to search Contacts with the 2.0 update? I don't seem to get a search dialogue box like they show in the Apple website.

As of iPod Touch 2G (and iPhone 3G) charging has been changed from either USB or Firewire to USB only. This has rendered many accessories that use the Firewire pins, e.g. car-cradles like my IceLink FM and music-docks like my JCL On Stage II, unable to charge the device.
There are so-called "Charge Converters" on the market for some 30 dollar. I use the Ridax Mini converter (http://www.chargeconverter.com/shop/connector.htm?connipod.htm) in my car-cradle because it was the first small one, but there are many others now. It's great to have the screen on, with all controls at hand, without draining the battery.
    Good luck.

  • Ipod touch freezing when bluetooth is off, ipod touch freezing when bluetooth is off

when bluetooth is on it never freezes on wakeup. why?
iOS 5.1.1 on a replaced ipod touch

    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order

  • Ipod Touch 4G GPS Bluetooth Connection

I have bought the TomTom Application but not the cradle from from TomTom, but I do have a Bluetooth GPS device that I have used on my Winmobile 5 device. I can also connect this device to my Blackberry and my Windows7 machine but the Ipod doesnt see it.
Does anyone know if I need to buy a BT stack for the Ipod ?   Or have any suggestions...

Unless you can find an app that is compatible with your BT GPS you are out of luck.  The iPod supports the following BT profiles.

  • Listening to ipod touch (2g) on Bose sound dock

I am trying to decide on purchasing the new ipod touch. From reading this forum I understand that the ipod touch 2g will not charge on the old Bose sound dock. Does anyone know if it will even play through the speakers on the sound dock and if this would damage the ipod? Thanks in advance for any information.

Thanks so much for the reply helifreak. Based on what you said I purchased the ipod touch. I can confirm that is does play on my old bose sound dock. As previously stated it will not charge though. I can't comment on if listening to the ipod on the bose is damaging my ipod but it seems fine so far.

  • IPod Touch in Car?

    Hey all,
Can I use this: http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/products/car/accessories/KCA-iP500/ with an iPod Touch 16GB?
I have the Kenwood KDC-W707 (which is in the supported list).
    Thanks!

    Thanks!
According to Kenwood, it cannot be used with the Touch
    • iPod (The 3rd generation model)
    • iPod (The 4th generation model)
    • iPod (The 5th generation model)
    • iPod mini
    • iPod photo
    • iPod nano
Perhaps the list hasn't been updated? I can always buy a cable later when there's one compatible with the Touch.
