Listening to Last.fm in MPD

Hi,
I'm trying to listen to Last.fm in mpd. I configured it to run with an external application and mpd connects to the stream but for some reason about 4-5 seconds after it starts playing last.fm player stops streaming and the music ends...
This doesn't happen with xmms.
Anyone encountered something similar?

I installed-enabled MS win media player firefox 1.0.0.8, i still did not get streaming, error box comes up and says 'stream load error', the 'windows media test' thing did not work, i tried iheart radio-no luck, so i disabled win media player plug-in dynamic link library 3.0.2629 and tested and still did not work, i also have plug ins: silverlight 5.0.61118.0 and quicktime 7.6.9 7.6.9.0 enabled. I don't know why all of the sudden i have a stream problem with firefox, yesterday, i tried on IE which i never use and had no problem with it. i will try to do more trouble shooting and see, its really frustrating, if can't figure out, i guess will have to revert back to IE which i really don't want to do, but---oh well. thx for help.

  • Anyone else experiencing instability when accessing last.fm though mpd

Recently, accessing last.fm causes mpd to stop responding.  The only debug info I can find in the log is simply:
Oct 20 22:08 : decoder_thread: curl failed: The requested URL returned error: 403 Forbidden
Oct 20 22:08 : decoder_thread: curl failed: The requested URL returned error: 403 Forbidden

Oct 20 22:08 : decoder_thread: curl failed: The requested URL returned error: 403 Forbidden
My last.fm account works and is configured properly in ~/.mpdconf
    playlist_plugin {
    name "lastfm"
    user "myuser"
    password "mypasswd"

Mac's are not tempermental with third party RAM however they are sensitive to the following RAM issues:
    1. Incorrect RAM specifications. RAM specs must exactly meet Apple's specifications, period! Installing incorrect RAM will cause KPs.
    2. Unseated RAM. Unseated RAM will cause problems.
    3. Failed RAM, this is more unusual however it's possible to have a RAM DIMM be defective of fail at a later date.
The only third party RAM I would not recommend for your machine is Kingston Value brand, this has been troublesome. However if you use OWC or Crucial both are great vendors and sell RAM that works assuming 1, 2 and 3 above.

  • MPD and Last.FM

this might be a longshot but i was wondering if there was a way for mpd to interface with last.fm. i know i can get a scrobbler working with no problem but i would really love to be able to listen to last.fm streams and get the whole love/ban/skip functions working.
    possible?

gmpc has a plugin called lastfm-radio, its in AUR and it works pretty nicely
I dont know of any way to love/ban tracks with mpd tho... Have been requesting this myself already.
Problem is that at least loving should be part of the scrobbler (because you can also love local files), but how would you implemt it? There is no way mpd itself will have this function, which means ALL clients have to support a 3rd party application.

  • First Generation Ipod Shuffle: Play count and Last Played date

I have a 1st Gen Ipod shuffle that works great in all other respects but it doesn't track the number of "plays" or the "last play" dates. Which means I can't use the "Smart Playlists" Itunes feature to be sure that the music on it stay fresh, non-repetitive. Another problem is if I listen to a podcast on the Ipod Shuffle then in Itunes the podcast appears as though it has never played before. This gets confusing as I listen to a number of podcasts.
I have tried resetting and restoring the Ipod shuffle. Is there anything I can do to it to make it track the number of plays or last played dates?

All my tracks should be MP3s or AAC.  I ripped them myselfs with iTunes.  I may have bought some songs directly off of record labels or some other online music store, but I own my music legally whether I bought it on CD or got given it by magazines or record labels.
I went to the gym today.  I set the shuffle to random.  Some songs were synched back to iTunes but they weren't the songs I listened to, at least not all of them.  Some of them may have been the songs I listened to last workout, at least one or two of the songs updated I did listen to today.
I listened to some other songs last night on my main Mac so it is easy to determine which songs iTunes updated this morning.
I haven't had much time to play with Match.  It is still updating and uploading, it has 6000 songs to go.  That means in a half month of trying it has managed to find and/or upload a little over 1000 songs actually close to 2000 now.  It is something, but it isn't the service I was sold.  All my songs and playlists were supposed to be available in the cloud.  That hasn't happened and in the case of my smart playlists will never happen.
I'll read you link, but I wrote a blog posting how I was disappointed with the service so far.
    Thanks!

  • IPod Shuffle 2 no longer updating playlist play count and last played date

I use my shuffle 2 in the gym.  When I'm done working out I sync and the most recently played songs are rotated off using a smart play list.  This is no longer working.  I reset the shuffle 2, I've forced sync and auto filled many times.  My latest workout it still lists all the songs I just listened to in the order I listened to them and has their last played date as many months ago.
This seems to be affecting my other iPod too, but it is tougher to diagnose.  I signed up to iTunes Match and after several days that is still running but I noticed this problem long before iTunes Match became available in Canada.  Both my iPod Shuffle and iTunes are up to date but my music is on an older but upgraded Mac.  It has a G4 so no Lion upgrade, I just checked it is 10.5.8

  • Mpd won't start after recent upgrade

    Hi!
After one of the last upgrades my mpd service does not start anymore.
    ● mpd.service - Music Player Daemon
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/mpd.service; enabled)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Di 2014-09-30 10:21:04 CEST; 2s ago
    Process: 1489 ExecStart=/usr/bin/mpd --no-daemon (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
    Main PID: 1489 (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
    Sep 30 10:21:04 lu10855 systemd[1]: Started Music Player Daemon.
    Sep 30 10:21:04 lu10855 mpd[1489]: fatal_error: Failed to set group 92: Operation not permitted
    Sep 30 10:21:04 lu10855 systemd[1]: mpd.service: main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
    Sep 30 10:21:04 lu10855 systemd[1]: Unit mpd.service entered failed state.
If I start mpd directly with mpd --no-daemon as root or via sudo it starts without any problems.
Group 92 is audio and the user mpd is part of that group. Do you have any ideas what is going wrong here?
    Best Regards,
    Robin

Systemd now starts the service as the mpd user by default (see /usr/lib/systemd/system/mpd.service). You can restore the previous behaviour by creating /etc/systemd/system/mpd.service.d/user.conf with the following content:
    [Service]
    User=
(will run mpd as root, which then has the capabilities to su to another user)
Though I'd recommend that you just let systemd handle the permissions setting rather than mpd. Comment out the user/group declarations in your mpd.conf and change the User declaration to the user/uid you want. Add in a Group declaration if you want too, though I don't think running processes as the audio group is a Good Idea™.

  • MPD's little helpers

I use MPD + ncmpcpp and its really awesome. I use mpdscribble for scrobbling to last.fm and mpd-sima for adding common songs in the playlists, and other tools like mpd-add-similar look nice (adding more than one song at a time.). What i miss now is a simple last.fm love track script or something, and a script that will copy the songs from a mpd playlist to a mp3 player. Anyone mind sharing such scripts or helping me make one ? , plus if you have any idea or a nice mpd tool write it here

  • Can't play Last.Fm in Arch

I'm using the AWN dock in Arch and one of the applets I have on the dock is Last.Fm
However, despite inserting my Last.Fm username and password, I can't get this to actually work as it always gives the "Oops, we had a problem connecting" error.
Now, On the very same computer, I also have Ubuntu with AWN and Last.Fm plays fine off the dock. I'm not aware of having done anything special to get Last.Fm to play from the dock in Ubuntu but obviously there is some difference.
Any clues as to what I might be missing in Arch?

I get the "Oops, we had a problem connecting" when trying to listen to last.fm in firefox

  • Iprint-listener: how to start?

    Hi,
the iprint-listener and the iprint-listener-gui gets double started on
my desktop. After Login there are two processes of both programs.
Where are the places I can found the start commands?
    TiA
    Bernd

U have to configure another Listener from Net Configuration Assistant of Configuration & Migration tools in the server. It will automatically create another Listener service with the new name. U dont have to configure Listener.ora manually.
    Then from Command Prompt use:
    lsnrctl
    lsnrctl>start <listener_name>
it will start the 2nd listener.
Lastly, why u need more than one listener, i.e., its not required for databases with single instances, normally.

  • How do I stop itunes from resuming a song from when I previously stopped listening to it?

When I start playing a track on my itunes 11.0, instead of starting from the beginning of the song, it resumes from the point that I stopped listening to last. Double-clicking the track doesn't work. This also occurs when I'm going through a whole album. For example, as soon as I'm done with track 1 the track 2 could possibly have only 10 seconds of the track left because that's where I last stopped listening to it.
This change happened out of nowhere, and I don't recall ever changing any preferences. It's annoying and killing my music mojo. Help please.

i have even turned off itunes helper in the log in menu.
Did you remove iTunes Helper from your Login Items?
If not, you need to remove it from the Login iTunes. Checking an item in your Login Items list hides the item during startup, it doesn't turn it off or not checking the item doesn't turn it off. You need to remove it from your Login Items list if not removed.

  • Ipod mini no longer recognized by itunes

Hi, I know this might sound like everyone else's problem, I've had my mini for a little less than a year now and it has worked fine but all of a sudden I can't transfer any songs as itunes wont recognize the ipod when i connect it.
I have tried resetting it a number of times and reinstalling itunes etc but no luck.
When plugged into the computer it will start charging but when I go to reset it I don't even get the apple picture anymore it just goes onto whatever song I listened to last
I was transferring songs last night and it was fine but when i plugged it back in to transfer more it wont show up
any other suggestions? before i try restoring it???

I'm an idiot and get impatient and as a result of that when I was resetting the ipod I wasn't holding down the select button, only the menu button on the clicky wheel, the apple icon eventually showed up and then my ipod appeared again in itunes.
Sorry to get anyone's hopes up but after 84764634 goes at trying to fix it I eventually found what I was doing wrong.

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen starts from the same song

I recently updated my iPod Touch 4th gen, 32 GB to iOS 6.1.2, from 5.1.1. I skipped iOS 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1, and 6.1.1. After the update, I noticed that when I play music from my "All Music" list, my iPod always starts on the same song, no matter what song I listened to last. Sometimes it starts at a song that's farther down the list, but I haven't been able to figure out what circumstances caused it to start at that song. To make things more confusing, once it chooses a different song, it always starts from that song.
I have confirmed that Shuffle and Repeat are both OFF. This issue occurs whether I have recently charged/synced my iPod or not. It also occurs after I perform a hard restart on the iPod. I have not tried restoring it, because I have not had time to dedicate the several hours it would take to re-install iOS and copy all of my stuff back onto it.
My computer is running Windows 7, 32-bit. My iTunes is version 11.0.2.26.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if anyone has questions relating to this issue, I'd be happy to answer them.

I didn't mention this in my initial post because I didn't think it was relevant, but the Home button on my iPod doesn't work. I've been using the virtual home button provided by turning Assistive Touch on.
I did try the first solution you suggested, but nothing happened. I'll make another post when I try the second method.
On a side note, and if it makes any difference, the device in question is not a phone. It's an iPod Touch.

  • My Ipod touch battery life depreciating, and it seems to coincide with my earphones no longer registering

    Hello,
I have had a few iPod's over the last couple of years, and well I am starting to get bored of exchanging/purchasing a new one because of what seems like a reoccuring problem. My iPod's battery is dying... it no longer lasts a day even without use (I have taken off extra apps-I just have what came with my iPod on my phone, my bluetooth is disabled). This has happened to me before, I had reset my iPod. Reuploaded it from my back up as well as return it to manufaturers defaults and sync'd it as a brand new iPod and this has not helped. (Initially I thought maybe I had a corrupted file on there).
I had taken my iPod into the Genius Bar, told me to do the manufaturers reset, even had an ipod exchanged. I was told that doing mini charges would 'teach' the battery that it was empty before it truly was. So I stopped using a car charger, I now use my iPod and let it die before I charge it once again, or at least have it below the 20% battery life before I will plug it in. And yet the problem still persists. I know I have time to take it in and have it looked over, but I'm tired of the same issue.
This issue seems to come along with an issue with my earphones. I use the Skullcandy 50/50 ear buds that have been working on my iPod for months now. And yesterday I had been listening to my iPod in the car using the AUX port, have my iPod volume all the way up and my speakers down. Typically when I take out the AUX port cord and replace them with my earphones the iPod would change the volume level to what I was listening to last with earphones. But now it isn't doing that, and the controls for the pause, volume, skip/rewind no longer work.
The Apple staff have been very kind to me, but as a customer I am getting tired of having to deal with this. I am just at my wits ends as this would be my 3rd iPod... so I think that it's me causing this but what could I possibly be doing to create this?

    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. If defective and not abused Apple will experience it with a refurbished one since it should be within the one-year warranty.

  • Smart Playlists not updating after iTunes upgrade

Since updating to iTunes 7.5.0.20, my iPod Photo no longer updates my Smart Playlists automatically
    Any reasons, fixes, suggestions?

Hi, I'm having a similar problem. I recently switch back from MediaCenter (on windows to iTunes). I did a fresh install of iTunes, reformatted my iPod and began using it.
I have smart playlists based on playcount. I notice that when I sync my iPod, the play counts do not change most of the time in my iTunes library. I just listened to a few songs and songs I listened to last night at 11:00pm were listed however, songs I listened to yesterday morning were not.
I'm gradually remembering why I moved off iTunes to begin with. MediaCenter may have the occasional crash but at least they can manage this simple task.
