Listening to mp3 file

Good evening,
I have an mp3 of a discussion between 2 professors which I've downloaded to my desktop. When I try to open it, the title comes up in iTunes but nothing else, the time is 0.00 seconds, in other words no time! How can I listen to this?
Many thanks,
Tim

I'm not sure, this is the first mp3 I've tried like this. The thing is I want to put it on my ipod so I can listen to it whilst I'm walking the dog.
The size is big but it seems about right duration wise.
I think one answer might be to download another mp3 player as you suggest. Any idea which one? Is it possible to convert the file into something else that iTunes might accept?
Thanks anyway for your comments.

  • Listening to MP3 files

    Hi all,
    I have recently been downloading MP3s from a variety of sources, most stuff is fine, all items i import from CD and from iTunes are no problem, but i have ordered a couple of MP files from other sources that I cannot access and listen to with iTunes. Is this a common issue? Should i get some additional software for listening to other MP3 files than those i get from iTunes and from my own CDs??
    I like a broad range of tunes, not all of which i can get on CD or from iTunes, so kind of need to know what to do here, rather than buyin MP3 files that i can then not use on my Macbook pro with the existing software.
    cheers for any help in this matter.

  • SD to USB adapter for MP3 Files

    I don't have USB port in my car but two SD slots whic allow to listen to MP3 files via car sound system. Please advise what kind of SD-USB adapter could be used for this purpose.

    Another option is an FM transmitter, Amazon sells lots of them: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keyw ords=ipod+fm&x=0&y=0#/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywor ds=iphone+fm&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Aiphone+fm

  • Unable to read mp3 files on usb storage on my car radio

    Hello,
    I have bought a car radio (Kenwood KDC-261UB), to listen to mp3 files on usb storage and also on my iphone. Although connected to my iphone all is OK, each time I transfer mp3 files on a storage (whatever the capacity), the car radio is unable to read them or so slow that it becomes prohibitive (NA file displayed). If now I transfer the files with the help of a Linux based computer, everything is OK. So, what is the problem ? Can you help me ? (I'm on a imac, with OS X 10.9.5) Thank you by advance. Francis Beaubois (France)

    Delete the .DS_Store files off the USB drive. Once I did this, it worked 100% with no problems.
    Well, until I went over 1400 files in the root folder, in which case you just need to separate them out into sub-folders.

  • I cannot copy or transfer mp3 files stored on external drive back into itunes so i can listen to book again

    Hi,
    I mostly use itunes for listening to audiobooks which I have been collecting for years. Have hundreds of them. A few years ago when computer too full and my itunes library too big I carefully copied the books onto an external hard drive as mp3 files and then removed them from itunes. (At that stage I really wanted a non itunes library backup as I had already lost library a couple of times....now I understand the itunes back up a bit more and can use it.)
    However I have lots of my favourite books on an external drive and I want to listen to them again. I cannot go to the folder holding a book, select all the the mp3 files that make up the book and drag them into my itunes music file as I can with a mp3 disc. There are 73 files on the first book i want to move!
    Itunes has been selected as the default player and will play the files but I cannot transfer them.
    Under details on a file it reads NOT PROTECTED
    I am  the administrator of my computer, indeed am its only user.
    Cannot think of anything else that might  be useful.
    hope you can help
    Elizabeth

    luckily that is also backed up on the external drive too so I'll try looking there, but do you have any thoughts on why I can't get the backed up files to stay on the PC correctly ? because until they are back on my PC I can't use it or get the rankings back right?

  • I visit a website which has podcasts.when I click listen icon on a page, it opens a small new window where mp3 file streams.

    But I want to open mp3 file in new tab on the page.Normally when I click a link on any website, links open in new tab. but on this site (elspod.com) there are icons not links .the site is elspod.com

    you can try out this page
    http://www.eslpod.com/website/show_podcast.php?issue_id=13731485
    if you click the listen icon on the page , a new windows is likely to open to play mp3 file..could I play/open this mp3 in a new tab instead of in new window

  • I can't get download to work - it will not copy the mp3 file to my chosen location (as set in tools/options) - it gives me a new window with a player - no dwnlo

    I am running windows xp sp2 and I have set my dowload location under (tools/options), but when I select an MP3 file to download, firefox does NOT copy the file to my chosen location on my HD - instead, it opens up a new window with a makeshift "player" and begins loading the player with the MP3 file. The problem is that I have no idea where on my system firefox has copied this file to, so, I cannot leave and come back later and play this MP3 file using winamp. I have to listen to it right then or lose it - if I close that new window (with that puny little "player"), then I lose the download, wherever firefox put it on my PC (I got no idea where it is). This is all under firefox 25.0
    I am also running FIrefox 12.0 on an older windows 2000 machine and that works perfectly - I can download any MP3 file I want, and firefox 12.0 (on win2k, sp4) downloads it to my chosen location (on my HD), and it gives me the download window so I can watch its progress and have some control over pause, and resume, and, when it is done, the download window offers me the option to "open containing folder" so I can make sure it got to where I wanted it. In other words, Firefox 12.0 on WIn2k, sp4 works better than firefox 25.0 on winxp sp2!!!!! What gives? I went through and set up my options for XP just like I did with Win2k and it all looks good, but firefox 25.0 just ignores my chosen location and always defaults to give me that makeshift player and I am not able to actually copy the mp3 file to my harddrive - it makes firerox 25.0 almost unusable since downloading mp3 files is a big part of my firexfox use - please help - I am not able to upgrade windows at this time, and, since firefox 12.0 still works fine on win2k, I can't understand what happened at firefox?

    Phillipp,
    I tried it again using "save link as", and this time it actually worked! I just now downloaded several more using the "save link as" option, and it works perfectly. Thanks. Problem solved.

  • Get the duration of all mp3 files inside a directory

    Hello everyone,
    I am working on a little project done with swing. Since I need an mp3 player inside my swing application, I found a really good solution with JavaFX 2. I have never worked with JavaFX before, therefor it seems to me a little bit strange on some parts.
    Anyway.
    I created a button on my application and as soon as somebody presses that button, the application should scan recursivly a unique directory for mp3 files and store the information of artist, title and track length into a database.
    The mp3 player I created is based on the example from this page:
    http://www.java2s.com/Code/Java/JavaFX/Mp3playerwithmetadataviewandcontrolpanel.htm
    I understand the source code for most parts, but some behaivors are not really clear to me. My thoughts about getting the complete length of the mp3 file was
    media.getDuration
    or
    mediaplayer.getTotalDuration
    but both results are NaN if I call .toMillis();
    Instead I need to create a listener (why?)
    private class TotalDurationListener implements InvalidationListener {
        @Override
        public void invalidated(Observable observable) {
          final MediaPlayer mediaPlayer = songModel.getMediaPlayer();
          final Duration totalDuration = mediaPlayer.getTotalDuration();
          totalDurationLabel.setText(formatDuration(totalDuration));
      }and register this listener on the mediaplayer
    mp.totalDurationProperty().addListener(new TotalDurationListener());I can image that the mediaplayer can "host" several media objects somewho and the listener is called as soon as a new media will be added to the mediaplayer in order
    the calculate the overall duration.
    When is this listener exactly called and is there no other ways to get the total length of the mp3 file?
    Here is a minimal example which should work without any external libs
    package de.hauke.schwimmbad.application.playground;
    import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
    import java.awt.event.ActionListener;

              } catch (Exception ex) {
                   System.out.println(ex);

              if(media.durationProperty()==null) System.out.println("durationProperty ist null");
              if(media.durationProperty().get()==null) System.out.println(".get() ist null");
              System.out.println("---> " + media.durationProperty().get().toMillis());
              return media.getDuration();
         private void initFX(JFXPanel fxPanel) {
              BorderPane root = new BorderPane();
              Scene scene = new Scene(root, Color.ALICEBLUE);
              fxPanel.setScene(scene);
    }The other question is why do I need a listener for the meta data to be changed in order to get the meta data?
    media.getMetadata().addListener(new MapChangeListener<String, Object>()Why can't I call something like
    media.getMetadata() --> returns a filled map?
    The metadata problem is not included inside the example from above.
    Sorry for my english but I hope everybody can understand the issue.
    Many greetings,
    Hauke

    The nature of the Media class is that it accesses it asynchronously. This means that when you create an instance of it, and then immediately query it, the data you want may not be available yet. This is all in the Javadoc, see the doc for Media:
    The media information is obtained asynchronously and so not necessarily available immediately after instantiation of the class. All information should however be available if the instance has been associated with a MediaPlayer and that player has transitioned to MediaPlayer.Status.READY statusSo you could associate the Media with a MediaPlayer, and then wait until it goes to the Status READY, and then read the length of the Media.
    As for your 2nd question, getMetadata() returns a Map. You can just loop through it:
      for(Map.Entry<String, Object> entry : media.getMetadata()) {
        // etc
      }However, the same restrictions apply as with Media -- you will probably need to wait before the information is available -- that's why the Listener approach works, because it will notify you as soon as the information is added to the map.

  • How can I transfer mp3 files from my PC to my Ipod Touch 4?

    I have an Ipod Touch 4 that was given to me. I use it almost exclusively to listen to audio books downloaded from various libraries. Once upon a time long ago I did manage to download some music (mp3 files) to the Ipod but I have no idea how. Now I would like to transfer some additional mp3 files to the Ipod but I have no idea how to do so and I have not been able to find any instructions that make sense using Google. I should also mention that I find ITunes to be the most confusing non-discoverable software I have every encountered. The instructions for dummies won't do. When it comes to ITunes I need the instructions for someone who can just barely find the on/off switch with both hands in daylight. Thanks for any help.
    P.S. I developed business application software for 40 years so I am PC literate, just not ITunes and Ipod literate.<g>

  • HT1819 [Podcast] mix all the imported mp3 files into one Album

    Dear Sir,
    I need your help of the app [Podcast].
    Let me explain my problem.
    I enjoying listening to Audiobooks very much.
    Everytime I use the iTunes to import some mp3 stories into my iPhone, then change their properties from MUSIC to AUDIOBOOKS. Because I like the convenience of the very two buttons ( 15 seconds of fast backward jumping, and 15 seconds of forward jumping).
    But I cannot easily delete those mp3 files that I've just heard. The only way is to erase the whole album in SETTINGS.  (I have a bad memory, always forgot which one that I have heard)
    Then, I found the app [Podcast], it has all the functions that I need:
      one, 15 seconds of fast backward & farward jumping;
      two, very convenient (sleeping) timer function;
      three, I can easily delete each mp3 file that I've just heard so I know where CAN I continue.
    So, I love the app [Podcast], from then on, through the iTunes, I change the properties of my mp3 stories from MUSIC to PODCASTS. It's very easy to operate.
    But, then I found something strange: the app [Podcast] mixes every mp3 files together,into one ALBUM, in spite of the ALBUM informations that I defined in EACH mp3 tags.
    The app [Music] can classify each ALBUM of those imported AUDIOBOOKS, why can't [Podcast]?
    Could you please show me what to do?
    Thank you very much.
    Yours,
    ZJH

    This is EXACTLY my problem....and I am disheartened that there is NO reply with fix for this.  I need to find another app to use.  I like to use the podcast app for audio files so I can listen to them in 1.5x or 2x speed.  Frustrated....

  • How do I browse & play .mp3 files from a USB flash drive using Labview 8.0?

    I'm a tester & want to test USB flash drives connected to PC.
    I want to browse the file system & playback the audio files, .jpeg files etc in the USB drive. I've Labview 8.0. When I searched for some examples or VIs which can detect the USB flash drive, couldn't find any. So if you could point me in the right direction, I can find a solution to my problem.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    You probably won't find specific examples for this.  A USB flash drive is mounted by the OS and appears as a new memory storage device to all software on the PC, including LabVIEW.  You can certainly write a LabVIEW program to open files on the stick and play/run them but I would create a VI that wrote files to the stick and then read them back and checked them for bit-level errors.  Keep in mind that your OS might be doing parity checking under the hood which would make your test rather meaningless.
    BTW, testing memory by looking at pics or listening to MP3s would be useless of course.  A human can't see or hear bit-level errors in a high bandwidth data stream.
    Using LabVIEW: 7.1.1, 8.5.1 & 2013

  • ITunes no longer imports 320kbs MP3 files

    I have been using iTunes for several years.  I am a professional audio engineer and make my living doing it.
    For years, I have been able to load 320kbs MP3 files into iTunes and load them into my iPhone to check my mixes.
    All of this has come to a complete stop since this last update with iTunes.
    For those of you who might have an answer for me, here is some things you might need to know:
    1. Yes, these are valid 320kbs MP3 files
    2. Yes, they play in Quicktime
    3. Yes, they have proper Meta, ID Tags (all versions)
    4. Yes, they load and play just fine in ALL other players (Windows, other iPhone, iPad, iPod players ect) EXCEPT they do NOT load in this version of iTunes.
    5. Yes, I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes - no help
    6. Yes, I have deleted my play list and rebuilt it from scratch - no help
    7. Yes, I have turned off iCloud - makes no difference
    8. Yes, OTHER PEOPLE (including my clients) are having the SAME PROBLEM with the new iTunes
    9. No, they do NOT load into iTunes -  iTunes does not allow me to drag and drop them, nor does it allow me to use the 'add to playlist' function.
    iTunes simply will not load my 320kbs MP3 files.
    I have been doing this same routine using the same method for years and it has ALWAYS worked until this last version.
    Something has seriously gone wrong with iTunes
    Anybody have a work around?  I really really need to be able to listen to my mixes on my portable devices (and so do my clients) and this bug is a show stopper.
    Thanks.
    Larry

    Go to iTunes preferences
    General Tab
    Import Settings
    Change Import using to  Wav Encoder
    Change Setting to Custom
    Now you will,have options to set everything
    How files are sent to iTunes is dependant on how you setup the bounce in Logic Pro itself
    In Bounce Dialog, select MP3 and then on right of Bounce Dialog box are settings for MP3 output file...
    or,,,,
    of course, you select any of the other formats like PCM Wave and give it's settings...
    You can actually bounce to many different output files at the same time by checking the appropriate boxes on left hand side..

  • How do I transport an MP3 file to play elsewhere

    I'm trying to save MP3 files of a national talk show host- Bruce Williams, in a way that I can play these files in the car. Each of these files is 1 hour long and somebody in the forum said that I could only get 1 hour saved on each CD, which is right. He also said something about being able to save these files in a way in which they could be played on an MP3 player. In that case I could get 10 hours. I really no nothing of MP3 and was wondering if somebody could help with this. Is there a device that could play these files in the car, so that several people could hear at one time. Is there a boom box or portable player. Also how do I get files from my Mac to the player? Thanks for your help.

    MP3 is not a type of disk, rather it is just a type of file that you would burn to a regular CD (using iTunes or Toast or the Finder). The MP3 files take up less room than regular audio tracks on a CD. But they are burned to a CD in the same way (using your computer's CD burner). As mentionned above you have to make sure you have an MP3 compatible CD player to play them in. Most new portable CD players will do this. Just check the packaging - playing MP3s is an advertised feature.
    Edited to add: you could also skip the CD burning route altogether and buy a disk-based MP3 player, such as an iPod. You would then transfer your MP3 files (or other types of music files) to the device using USB. You would then listen to the music through headphones, or through your sterio speakers or your car speakers (accessory cable needed).

  • Nokia 101 is not playing half my MP3 files

    Bought a new Nokia 101 couple days ago.
    Installed an SD card with several MP3 files (mostly audio books, some music). All these files play without a hitch on all devices I'v tried them on - right from bare basic phones, smartphones to comps.
    Bit I find that a approx half of them won't play on the Nokia 101!. Error message displayed - "File format not supported. Please select another song".
    Discovered that this phone has a ridiculous limitation of not being able to play MP3 files of bitrate lower than 32 kbps. So checked all the files and after eleminating the < 32 kbps files, it is still not playing about half the files that are well above 32 kbps. The other half or is, it plays well. So its not like the MP3 player is totally broken.
    What could be the issue? Please help, as I need the phone to play these files if it is to be of any use to me.
    Quite disappointed with Nokia, as no other phone or player has such issues with playing anything.

    @Srikant - Are you sure? Nokia Care told me on phone that it can be done; and asked me to bring the phone. My concern is that I currently don't have the time for it, and was hoping to find some solution here. Nothing is worse than having to take the time and effort for taking a brand new product for service.
    I don't see a PC interface port on the 101 like the one on my 1112. But I don't know if there is one inside the cover or something... haven't checked.
    While we would all like to use MP3s of high bitrates, its not always a choice we can make. I have some files of <32 kbps, and I now know this amazing phone can't play them. But I really don't understand why it isn't playing half my files that are in the whereabouts of 50 kbps. Its not possible to get these files at originally higher bitrates. I guess I could try to encode these files at higher bitrates, but thats not going to increase their quality! Besides, these are audio books and no music, so the files at existing bitrate are fairly good. And really, why should I be spending time in doing all this, when every other phone, including very basic ones can play these files on the same SD card without a hitch?
    I mainly bought this phone as a secondary phone for some voice calling and for its MP3 player. It fails badly at both jobs as its single speaker design makes any privacy on calls impossble - everyone around can hear the opposite person loudly. And as an MP3 player it fails for the reason above, for having a barely ok speaker (not quite good enough even for audio books) and for being so bare bones as to not even have a seek option, which is a REALLY bad thing when you are listening to audio books.
    Even no-name Chinese phones can do a better job.

  • Cannot save an MP3 file from a webpage after Leopard upgrade

    Hello,
    I am a graduate student and my instructor posts his lectures online as mp3 files. When I was using Tiger and Safari, I was able to right click the file and save it to my computer. Now, after I upgraded to Leopard, I right click and attempt to save and I get an error message of "no permissions to read file." If I click on the file, quicktime will play the mP3 in the safari browser but I want to save the file to my computer so I can listen to it through iTunes.
    I am able to currently work around this by using Firefox as it allows me to save the file with no problem but I want to use Safari.
    Any ideas?
    BTW - Safari is 3.0.4 (Leopard)
    Thanks!

    It won't work if you drag it, but you can copy it from the Activity window, and then paste it into the downloads window. But it may get stuck that way too. The only way I know of is to open the MP3 in Safari, let it load, and then click on File and save it. And I'm using the latest Safari.
