Listening to multiple playlists at once

Is there a way to start listening to a playlist on an iPod, but after a few songs start a different playlist, and then later go back to the first one but at the place where you left off? In other words, avoid having to start over every time you play a song in the playlist. Thanks.

There is no way to resume a playlist from where it left off at after listening to another one.

  • How do I import multiple playlists at once?

I know this issue has been discused before, but without a solution tailored to what i require, so I will reistate the problem from my point of view:
Background: Had a Windows I-Tunes library, supremely organized. The mother of an Electric surge broke through my anti-surge defenses and fried the motherboard, the hard disk, the Power supply, or so the CompUSA techs tell me. A total loss. My wife has a Mac, I wanted to move my music and playlists to an I-Tunes account stationed on her mac, and reorganize the library just as it was before synching my I-pod and keep walking my life.
    Process:
With some third party programs I managed to transfer my music into ITunes and now I have it back. But now I want to recover the playlists that I had organized into folders and have my music organized as before. Some might say I-tunes is already organized, there no need for so many playlists...but to find My Chemical Romance under the Holiday music genre isn't where I though I would find it or where I want it. And there are thousands labeled in "genres" that I have never heard about...just because the CD had scripted the music on it was of that genre.I Use playlists to organize the music I use frequently, be it from a single group (best of) or a multi-group compilation, hear it the way I want it and have reasonable quick access to it. I don't like looking around for a song as I do other tasks. The I-Pod control wheel is not my hamster wheel.
In any case, I need to import the playlists en masse. There are many of them. I already have the playlist text files pre-separated, so I can import them in groups and place them in the folders they belong to. No overwhelming the system. I-Tunes is a heavy program in itself and any stated "slowing up" is imperceptible to I-Tunes regular speed. The benefits of my structure are primarily enjoyed in the I-POD. I hardly hear music directly from I-Tunes, it puts too much of a burden in a system I use for other heavies like photoshop etc.
I tried to do this with the automator...but it can import anything but playlists. I lacks a step to know what to do with the playlists once it has acquired them...don't know why it has the step to get them but no apparent action for what to do with them. This is what the workflow looked like. I thought it would work:
The problem was the last step: I was designed to import ONLY MUSIC. And there is no step that applies for the previous get playlists one that I see. Is there a custom workflow or suggestions on how to make this happen? this would both help me learn more about the tools available AND save me weeks of item by item Importing.

    Hi Ken,
but that doesn't work. And, by the way, Drop does not exist as an option in that context menu, at least in the versions I checked: 3.0, 3.1.
Here are a couple of other posts on this issue:
    Re: Deleting multiple items
    Multiple Objects Deletion
On the SQL Developer Exchange Feature Requests page there are actually several instances of this. Multiple Drop Objects has the most votes and has been ACCEPTED:
    https://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=43135:7:1551303100110801::NO:RP,7:P7_ID:721
Mentioned in one of the posts above is bug 5855085, actually an enhancement request, whose scheduled release keeps slipping.
If you highlight multiple objects (I tested with all objects of the same type) in 3.1, then select Edit -> Delete from the menu toolbar, a confirmation dialog titled "Erase from Disk" pops up, but an affirmative confirmation does nothing. In 3.0, the Edit -> Delete choice is not even enabled.

  • Is it possible to move Multiple playlists into a Folder at once?

I have hundreds upon hundreds of playlists dating back years. As a non forward thinker I've created most of the in the 'root' of the Music Library.
I'm attempting to organize into Playlist Folders & the one at a time drag n drop is a little tedious. Any way to select/move multiple playlists at once?
    Thanks in advance!

You can't select multiple playlists. It should be possible to move them into or between playlist folders by way of a script, but I suspect that is just exchanging one laborious task for another.

  • [Desktop] Select and organize multiple playlists

This is a direct copy of this idea which was originally posted 2 years ago.  I wasn't a user then, and this idea has since been made inactive, so I'm resurrecting it.  Even just a shift-select on the desktop app would help immeasurably.  Here's the original idea:
"I am looking for easy ways to organize my library.
I want to do some housekeeping in my library, but I find the current system of dragging and dropping individual playlists is too time consuming when the number of playlists reach this high.
First of all, there should be a way to select multiple playlists at once and be able to handle multiple playlists the same way as I can handle single playlist (ability to drag and drop, and rightclick w/ a special dropdown menu for multiple selected items).
    Ctrl-clicking, shift-clicking and shift+arrowkeys would help greatly.
[Edit] This idea is nearing its 2 year anniversary of no official recognition. Good times! :)
As a sidenote my Spotify library now consists of 1296 playlists."

Thanks @martskre !   Your idea is solid and seemingly easy enough to implement, I have no idea why it's taken 3 years.  As loyal Spotify premium users build their libraries over time, we increasingly need streamlined ways to manage these libraries.  Selecting multiple playlists to move/copy/delete is the most simple of these.   would it be possible to get a rough roadmap or any info as to why this is being held up?  Thanks so much for your help!

  • Is there NO way to select multiple songs to go into a Music Playlist at once, vs doing it one by one?!

Argh.  So irritating how something that should be very simple and intuitive results in useless calls to Sprint (my carrier) and BB. with endless holds, transfers, pasing the buck, and still no results.  Then I'm suggested to go to the Forums...you know...where other paying BB customers can try tp provide the IT support that BB apparetnly could care less to do for its paying customers?
Anyway, I want to have multiple playlists in my BB Music so that when I host parties, I can play a particular type of music by selecting one of the playlists.  I was able to move songs to my BB but they only seem to move to the general Music Library (All Songs).  I was able to create Playlists, but it seems you can only move songs to the Playlist ONE AT A TIME.  There is apparently no way to select multiple songs to go to a playlist?  No way to move an entire folder of music from my PC to my BB songs, as its own separate sub-folder (i.e., Playlist)?
I know I've been able to do this with other devices in the past.
Otherwise the BB Music Playlist options seems totally pointless.

  • How do I delete multiple items at once instead of one at a time?

How do I delete multiple items at once instead of one at a time? I have several duplicate items in my library and would like to delete the duplicates. Thanks!

You can select multiple items using shift to select a range and control to add or remove items from it.
Regarding duplciates, Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group of identical tracks to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. This can happen, for example, if you start iTunes with a disconnected external drive, then connect it, reimport from your media folder, then restart iTunes.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping, whether you do so by hand or using my script, in case something goes wrong.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)

  • Multiple playlists with the same song but don't want duplicates on the iPhone

I have many playlists to organize my music and many songs end up in multiple playlists. I want to have these playlists in my phone but do not want duplicate songs taking up space on the phone. How do I do this?
To be more detailed, I am a musicain and I keep playists of the songs I need to know for different bands that I'm in and often times there are songs that multiple bands require me to know. Also, I have DJ playists that again, will utilize the same song. These are two examples of how one song can be in multiple playlists. I really need these playlists in my phone but I can't have  some Beatles song four or five times in my phone. Isn't there a way to import a playlist as a pointer or locator to metadata so the playlist, once imported, just parses through the existing songs on my phone and generates the playist? This seem like it would be a fairly simple thing for Apple to do, no?
    Thanks!

Hi, Damon M., and thanks for answering me!
So my Playlists and Smart Playlists are only made up of music (plus four or five music videos that don't represent a lot of space), no Audiobooks and no TV Shows.
When I click on my Music folder, it says I have 4.12GB on the bottom (including the Music videos).
Since I don't sync anything else on my 8GB iPhone but this 4.12GB of music, reorganized in Playlists, I don't see why I get a box saying I need 12GB to fit everything in.
So what I do now is manually sync my music, which on my iPhone takes up about 4GB. But I want my Playlists too...
It's as soon as I want to sync on my Playlists that everything goes wrong.
So... do you have any more suggestions/ideas?
    Thanks,
    Vincent

  • Can You Play Multiple Playlists Without User Intervention

Can you stack and play multiple playlists? ie if you had three playlists of 50 songs each, could you pick all three, play all the songs in the first playlist, when it is finished move automatically to the second playlist play its songs then automatically move to the third without user intervention? And if so, can you play each of these in shuffle mode?

There's no "impromptu" method of doing so that I know of.
As far as un-impromptu methods (it's always fun inventing words), it will depend on whether you want to listen to this mega-playlist on an iPod or just with iTunes.
If it's just with iTunes, you can go to the File menu > New Folder command and create a new folder which we can call the Mega-Playlist folder. Drag the three playlists in question into that folder. When you select that folder and press Play, iTunes should go through all the songs.
If it's on an iPod, since Folders don't transfer over from iTunes, the only solution I know of would be to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes that will -
Match any of the following rules:
Playlist is the first playlist +
Playlist is the second playlist +
    Playlist is the third playlist.
Synching this mega-playlist to your iPod will allow you to select it from the Playlist menu.
Shuffle mode would shuffle songs from all three playlists together, not shuffle songs from the first playlist before moving on to shuffling songs from the second playlist before shuffling songs from the third playlist.

  • How do I set view options for all playlists at once?

    Hello,
I want to able to set the view options for all my playlists at once (to include BPM, category etc). Currently you can only do this individually for each playlist.
Surely there is an easier way?

    1. Is there a way of selecting multiple playlist in iTunes? And if yes, can I then change the view options for all selected playlists? How does this work?
    2. Is there any other way to apply view option settings to multiple playlist?
    1 - No
    2 - Using iTunes, no.
However this script will do what you want .

  • Applying columns to multiple playlists

I've searched hi and low, but no luck. Is there a way to apply columns views to multiple playlists? I want to add certain columns to all my playlists (i.e. Track #) without doing it one by one.
    Any ideas?
    Bob

Catherine, you probably have the "Primary Only" flag enabled. Press the framed litte "1" button to disable it. This flag will cause the keywords only to be applied to the current selection. Then the Keywords Controls should work as you want.
See my user Tip here:                   Keywords or ratings are applied only to one of the selected images - why?
What is the recommended way of applying keywords to multiple images at once?
The Keyword Controls are fine, also dragging keywords from the Keywords HUD directly onto a selection or Batch Changing.

  • How to download multiple songs at once on iPhone?

I have many songs on my iphone that need to be downloaded from cloud (I use iTunes Match) to my device.  Is there a way to do so automatically and/or download multiple songs at once without downloading them one at a time?

When you are viewing an Album, Artist or Playlist there is a "download all" button a the top of the list. Just tap it.

  • How much space does 1 song take up if it is in multiple playlists?

If I have one song in multiple playlists on my iPhone, does it take up for disc space, or is there a single file that playlist utilizes once the song is queued? Thanks. If it's not obvious, my objective is to free up disc space.

An entry in a playlist is just a pointer to a single copy of a track, so you can have a given track in multiple playlists and it won't take up any extra space.

  • Synchronizing music that appears in multiple playlists.

I just got my new iPhone 3G today, so please forgive me if this is a really basic question
I'm wondering if the iTunes sync software is smart enough to not duplicate songs that are sync'd to the phone. In other words, I have selected multiple playlists to have it sync to my iPhone. If a song appears in multiple playlists, is it going to copy the song file multiple times to the phone, or will it copy it only once and have it appear in the iPhone music library in each relevant playlist?
I'm sure it's the same as iTunes where it doesn't duplicate, but I just want to make sure. My 16GB aren't going to go far
    dt

It is the same on your iPhone as with iTunes on your computer.
A song cannot be in a playlist unless the song is in your iTunes library. Placing a song in a playlist does not duplicate or copy the song. The playlist includes a pointer only to the song in your iTunes library. The same applies on your iPhone. A song can be in multiple playlists, but the song is not copied for each playlist. There is only one copy of the song on your iPhone even though the song is available in more than one playlist.

  • Selecting multiple playlists

Searching for an answer to my question it seems I'm not the only iTunes user trying to select multiple playlists or multiple folders at once.
I used Doug's iTunes script to create a playlist for each album. Great script by the way!
Now I have several hundred playlists, which I'd like to organise in some categories. I would like to select several playlists to drag and organise them in certain folders.
No such luck. I need to drag one by one.
Does anyone have a solution to select multiple playlists?

You can send in your feature suggestions on the Mac OS X Feedback page.
