Listening to music & Airplane Mode

Hello All~
I have a ?? for you that I hope you can answer! I have had the Iphone for a few days now~ When I put my phone in my Ihome under the cabinet speaker I get this message that says "This accessory is not made to work with this phone would you like to put the phone on Airplane mode to reduce interference"
And when I do play it, I do get interference, like a buzzing sound. Same thing happens to me when I attempt to play it in my car with my belkin car kit thingy....Anyhow~ I guess two questions are in order!! ONE~ What is airplane mode? And TWO~ If i put it in Airplane Mode will it make the playback have none of that buzzing sounds? Please help~ I thought that this Iphone was compatible with most Ipod speakers. WILL I DAMAGE THE IPHONE if I do use it in my car or with the Ihome speaker? Thanks~

I went to the AT&T store yesterday for a new sim card and the gentleman there told me that the Iphone would work with any Ipod speaker. So am I getting false information?
Yes and no. While it does work with some iPod devices it does not work with all of them. It will of course work with any speaker you connect to with a 3.5mm jack.
Will putting the phone on airplane mode help with the interference?
Yes. Airplane mode cuts all incoming and outgoing transmitions from the iPhone so it will not generate interference. It will, however, also prevent it from receiveing telephone calls or emails.
It all has to do with the shielding of the speakers. If your speakers are properly shielded then the iPhone will not interfere with them much, if any. My Bose SoundDock is well shielded so interference is minimal. Most consumer speakers, however, are not shielded all that well. Interference may be a problem with them.

  • After the cloud and iTunes Match, Can I access all my music in airplane mode?

Seems like Apple hasn't been very clear about this. So now all my music is being stored in the cloud. That should allow me to free up space on my phone...but if I turn on airplane mode, what would be left on my phone if I delete my music locally? If I can't delete the music locally on my phone, what's the point of storing it in the cloud? just backup?

Of course the music in the cloud which has not been downloaded to your iDevice can't be accessed while airplane mode is active. However, all music that has been previously downloaded to your iDevice can be played.
iTunes Match is not designed to be a streaming service. When you listen to music it is downloaded to your iDevice.

  • I can't see my iTunes music when in airplane mode.

I understand that my music is stored in the cloud and that the only way to listen to my music while in airplane mode is to download it to my iPad. I've done this but can't find the music on my iPad.  Do I need a different program to play the music than iTunes?

The standard app to play music on an iPad is called Music. The iTunes app is for buying music (movies, etc.).

You cannot. Airplane mode disables all communications.
Download a few songs to your device before you enable airplane mode.

  • Problem with the speaker when listening to music

I've been having problem with my iphones speaker when im listening to music through it, like u would hear a bad sound and annoying noise, wat can i do to fix this problem?

Another thing to think of that might help.
If you hear an odd sound intermittently over speakers when the iphone is near, that could be GSM interference. GSM phones produce this interference when contacting the cell network. You don't have to be using the phone for this to happen. The phone is in constant contact with the cell network to check time, signal strength and a range of other things you might have turn on the phone.
one way you could test this is to put the iphone into airplane mode and play the music for a while.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to use iPhone 4S in Europe as an iPod... without Airplane Mode?

So this is actually for a friend who has an iPhone 4S and is going to Amsterdam this summer.  She wants to bring her iPhone to use it for reading preloaded eBooks and listen to her music.  Now she is TERRIFIED of incurring international data charges.  She wants a foolproof method to disable it's service without using Airplane Mode.  She is afraid she will be out drinking one night and accidentally turn Airplane Mode off or restart her phone and it's turned off as it powers up and as her apps update she goes bankrupt.  She also still wants to be able to use WiFi when she is out there.
Now I was thinking she could replace her activated SIM card with an unactivated one from AT&T (her carrier).  I am just concerned about a couple things.
First since the iPhone is activated will it freak out on her when she inserts this unactivated SIM card.
Second will she have to restore it before inserting the SIM card?
Third will she be able to connect it to iTunes to add music or perform a restore if something should happen to it out there?
Or if the SIM card trick is a no-go, what other ways are there to foolproof deactivate her phone?
Any help or ideas you could give me to pass along to her would be great.  She was actually on her way to buy a new ipod and an ereader when she told me and I stopped her in her tracks.  I had a European buddy come HERE and buy an unactivated iPhone and wanted to use it as an iPod and we did this SIM card trick but I don't know if it translates to Activated to Unactivated.

Just take out the sim card. If the iPhone is unlocked, she won't have to worry about charges.

  • Smart Playlists/Airplane Mode

Airplane mode is causing some trouble for me...while it makes it possible to listen to music while on a plane, it's also interfering with my smart playlists. I have a playlist set up so that once a song/album is played it will be removed when synced, making room for more music to be added. When I put the iphone in airplane mode while on vacation and listen to music, the next time I sync the iphone doesn't record the music I listened to. I've also noticed that the music listened to in between toggling airplane mode on/off isn't synced either. And since I'm a last.fm user, since the music isn't synced that means it isn't scrobbled either.
Anyone out there have any advice on this issue or can it be added to a list of bug to be fixed at a later date? Thanks in advance.

Good question. I'd say that the iphone marks 90% of the music I play when Airplane Mode is off. After syncing I often find that there are a few songs or entire albums I have listened to all the way through but have not been marked as such. Because of the way I have my smart playlist set up, it's a bother but in the greater scheme of things it's a nuisance I'd have thought would be pretty easy to sort out.
Any other thoughts out there? Is this problem showing up for anyone else?

  • Listen to music without interruption by mail

    Greetings,
I want to listen to music without being interrupted by incoming mail. I know I could put the phone in the Airplane mode but wonder if there is a way to keep receiving e-mail and notices but not have them, interrupted?
    Steve

    I'm sorry, that's too simple!
I never thought to try the mute switch - just assumed it would mute all audio output.
Thanks for tghe quick response, this has been bugging me for weeks and Google searches didn't help.

  • Can you listen to music over wifi and receive calls

I listen to Rhapsody over wifi (iTunes has same problem) and can't receive phone calls. I have a iPhone 5 if it makes any difference. How do I set up the phone so the calls pop up when they come in and don't go to voicemail? There has to be a way so no matter what app you're in the call show when the come in. I suspect it's the wifi that is causing the phone not o come in.

I have a very limited data plan, so I tend to turn it off until I need it. I looked my Airplane mode is "off".
I have a signal because I tried calling it from my work land line and it rang fine... as long as I was listening to Rhapsody or Itunes over WiFi.
I looked at the phone and call forwarding is not on... service is through AT&T. The only thing on is Data Assist and call waiting.
Any other suggestions on what to do?

  • I can't listen the music in my iPhone

I found that I can't listen music in my IPhone neither to listen the videos in YouTube. When I try to use it in Ipod mode, the only options to listen to the music are connector dock and AirPort express. If I plug in the headphones goes to headphones mode I can listen the music again. I reset my IPhone but with the fabric configuration still has the same problem. Thank you for your help

    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Why has automatic Airplane mode disappeared?

When I plug my iPhone into my music dock at night to charge my phone I used to get a prompt asking me to switch to Airlane mode which would stop any interference from the phone. The great thing about this feature was that in the morning after taking my iPhone off the dock Airplane mode would automatically turn off. Such a great price of development seamlessly making my life easier.
When I updated to ios 4 I was shocked to notice that this functionality was gone, to be replaced with a dismiss notification instead. So now when I plug my iPhone into my dock I have to hit the dismiss notification, then go to settings, then manually turn on Airplane mode and the same in the morning to turn it off again. Why. I can't understand why Apple would change such a useful piece of functionality in such a fundamental way. Would love to know why.

Doubtful if Apple will answer why - not here anyway. The only thing you will get here will be an educated or non-educated guess or speculation as to why.

  • Unable to listen to music while iPod is connected to computer

Whenever I connect the iPod(5th Gen) to my computer it shows Do Not Disconnect message and am unable to listen to music. Also, if music is playing previously, it stops automatically. Can anyone help? Just been two days since I bought my iPod

Try this for your Do Not Disconnect issue:
Connect your iPod and in iTunes go to Preferences>iPod. Under the Music tab see if you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes and also have a tick in the box marked “enable disk use". Remove this tick and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.
If you have your iPod set to manual update, the box will be greyed out and ticked by default, in that case use Safely remove Hardware icon or check this link: "Disconnecting iPod from your computer
    " http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61135
Just another point to note, your iPod needs to be in manual mode to listen to it while connected to your PC. In automatic mode you will see the iPod library greyed out and inaccessible.
