Listening to music/using apps while charging?

Hey guys,
was wondering if it's a good idea to listen to music or using apps while charging. Any recorded crashes related or is it detrimental to the battery?

It's fine to do that, and actually extends your battery lifespan, since battery lifespan is limited by the number of charge cycles, and the more time spent on AC power, the fewer charge cycles.

How do I listen to music or radio while reading mail, etc.?

If you are using the Music App, or say, Pandora, all you do start a song or album and while you are listening, hit your home button once to go to your home page.  The music will cointinue playing and then you touch your mail icon and read mail.  The music will continue playing while you're reading mail.  Just remember to close the Music when you're finished.  To do so, double tap yourhome button and you'll the most recently used apps (task bar) on the bottom.  With your finger, hold it on any app until they all start to jiggle.  You'll see on the upper left side.  Touch the minus and the app will fully close.

  • Using phone while charging

should the iphone be used while it is plugged in the computer charging or on the dock? will it damage the phone? should i wait until it is fully charged each time before using it?

There's nothing wrong with using your phone while it's plugged in to charge. All it might do is increase the charging time a bit. But in essence, using it while charging isn't a bad thing. I've heard though, that you don't want to make a habit of it. But that was on older phones, when batteries were a lot touchier.

  • Hi People. I was doing my walk and listening to music using my 4s when in the middle of a song, the volume control would just automatically slide back to zero like it has a mind of its own. What gives?

Is it bad to use iPad while charging?

No this is not a problem. But you should be charging the device using the charger that came with it and have that lugged into a known good wall outlet.

  • Will using iphone while charging use up battery cycle?

battery capacity decreases as we repeat charging / using the phone.
but what if we use it while it is being charged? will it just use power from
the power source or charge+use up batter at the same time?
i hope it can just use draw power from the external power source and leave
the battery alone if it's full, then I can just use bluetooth and leave
the phone in the dock to not waste battery cycles.

There are two issues here. A cycle is the EQUIVALENT of one complete use of the battery from fully charged to depleted. But it can take place over multiple uses and charges. There is no way to avoid using cycles (or portions of them) other than leaving the phone plugged in all the time. Which brings us to issue two:
The worst thing you can do to your battery (other than letting it get very hot) is to leave it plugged in all the time. This is not because it will overcharge. As others have pointed out, the phone is smart enough to prevent overcharging. But li-ion polymer batteries like to get some "exercise" to say fresh. Apple recommends the equivalent of at least one cycle per month. If it's plugged in constantly, it will not get enough exercise and its capacity will diminish.

  • IPad goes crazy when using it while charging

Hi, these couple of days my new iPad started to act weird whenever I'm using it while the charging port is intact with my new iPad. Which means that it is not responding to my touches when the charge port is intact and reacts normally when I pull out the charge port. This is the first time it is happening after using it for a couple of months. The weird reactions are such that i can't type or touch at the correct location as it goes else where. It changes my pages, goes blank enlarge my page and becomes jumpy. It's getting annoying as it is not functioning the way it Shd be whenever the charge port is intact. It goes back to normal when I unplug it. I have actually taken a video on this issue and i can send the video to you via youtube if you require. Please advise. Thanks

If the reset does not help, then transfer all purchases to iTunes on your computer, next backup the iPad to your computer and then restore the iPad with the backup.

If your charger is working right, it is NOT using your battery while gaming and connected to the charger.
    As for gaming on battery:
You shouldnt do that a LOT because it causes RAPID discharge of the battery
    See 3B below::
General consideration of your MacBook battery
Contrary to popular myths about notebook batteries, there is protection circuitry in your Macbook and therefore you cannot ‘overcharge’ your notebook when plugged in and already fully charged.
However if you do not plan on using your notebook for several hours, turn it off (plugged in or otherwise), since you do not want your Macbook ‘both always plugged in and in sleep mode’.
Do not perform “battery calibration” on your current Macbook. There is no calibration of current Apple portable Macbooks with built-in batteries.
A lot of battery experts call the use of Lithium-Ion cells the "80% Rule", meaning use 80% of the full charge or so, then recharge them for longer overall life. The main quantified damage done in the use of Lithium Ion batteries are instances where the internal notebook battery is “often drained very low”, this is bad general use of your notebook battery.
All batteries in any device are a consumable meant to be replaced eventually after much time, even under perfect use conditions.
If the massive amount of data that exists on lithium batteries were to be condensed into a simplex, helpful, and memorable bit of information it would be:
    1. While realistically a bit impractical during normal everyday use, a lithium battery's longevity and its chemistry's health is most happy swinging back and forth between 20% and 85% charge roughly.
    2. Do not purposefully drain your battery very low (10% and less), and do not keep them charged often or always high (100%).
    3. Lithium batteries do not like the following:
A: Deep discharges, as meaning roughly 10% or less. Avoid this in all instances if you can. This is hard on your battery.
B: Rapid discharges as referring to energy intensive gaming on battery on a frequent basis (in which case while gaming, if possible, do same on power rather than battery).
C: Constant inflation, as meaning always or most often on charge, and certainly not both in sleep mode and on charge always or often.

  • Using iphone while charging in home or car??

Could that create any battery problems if done daily? I use the phone off and on for about 6 hours and the battery takes a dive then. I have to start switching off the wifi as I am not in that environ most of the time. Thanks!

If you think about it, keeping the phone plugged in limits the amount of cycles on your battery so that's a plus. If your phone is dead after 6 hours of off and on use (not solid talk time) and plummets from some battery to none, then you might want to talk to Apple. Otherwise I would recommend NOT USING a case while talking with the charger connected because charging tends to heat up electronics and heat is an enemy of battery life. Of course after a short while the relevant question will become 'Why is the phone cable so short?????'
Most of my electrical receptacles are at ground level, not into talking while laying on the floor. Just odd, considering the possible lengths of USB cables and the fact that some thought was put into the iPhone cable (no squeeze locks).
I always want my electronic devices charged up, I don't see that as unreasonable so I'd say you're fine as long as the device doesn't get extremely hot.
