Listening to radio 4

Hi chaps, I think I know the answer but maybe ! ... I'm thinking about getting an iphone 4 - 2 questions please:
1) As it has no fm radio - out of range of wifi using the 3g connection will eat up data allowance ... is that correct ? and is there a way around.
2) If I am in a wifi situation and leave the radio on ALL night will I be abusing the battery (ie shortening it's life) ?
Many thanks for any advice.
Roger

The more often you charge the battery, the more full charge cycles will be used.
http://www.apple.com/batteries/
A charge cycle means using all of the battery’s power, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a single charge. For instance, you could listen to your iPod for a few hours one day, using half its power, and then recharge it fully. If you did the same thing the next day, it would count as one charge cycle, not two, so you may take several days to complete a cycle. Each time you complete a charge cycle, it diminishes battery capacity slightly, but you can put notebook, iPod, and iPhone batteries through many charge cycles before they will only hold 80% of original battery capacity. As with other rechargeable batteries, you may eventually need to replace your battery.
http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
A properly maintained iPhone battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 400 full charge and discharge cycles. You may choose to replace your battery when it no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs.
I wouldn't concern yourself with keeping track of how many full charge and discharge cycles you have gone through with your iPhone. Just enjoy it, but if you plan on streaming radio all night long with your iPhone while you are sleeping, probably a good idea to have your iPhone connected to a power source. In addition when your iPhone is connected to a power source when it is connected to an available wi-fi network, the wi-fi network will remain connected for your internet connection. When your iPhone goes to sleep when connected to an available wi-fi network when it is not connected to a power source, the wi-fi connection will be dropped to conserve battery. When waking the iPhone up, the wi-fi connection will be quickly re-established.

I assume you are using Firefox for Android to listen to radio in one Firefox tab and you are switching to another tab and the music stops right?

  • I am trying to listen BBC radio news from BBC App, but on pressing the button I always get the error "there was an error playing this radio feed". What is the source of this error and how can I remove it?

I am trying to listen BBC radio news from BBC App, but on pressing the button "live radio" I always get the error "there was an error playing this radio feed". What is the source of this error and how can I remove it?

That is probably just a generic error message and you might not ever know what is causing it. Assuming that you have been able to play live radio with the app in the past (I know nothing about the app) and assuming that all other Internet related functions (Safari, email, etc.) are working properly on your iPad, quit the app completely and reboot your iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that fails to resolve the issue, you might want to reboot your router, unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.

  • Why do I keep getting an error message saying that I need to check my internet connection when I try to listen to Radio? I ran diagnostics and my internet connection is fine. I can also access iTunes Store no problem??

Why do I keep getting an error message "An error occurred while contacting the radio tuning service.Check your internet connection or try again later." This happens when I am trying to listen to Radio (obviously). I ran diagnostics and it said my internet connection was good. I can also connect to the iTunes Store with no problem. Any ideas?

    Hi,
Maybe the radio connection on the other end is not working. Hope this helps.

My ipod 5 turn off when im listening to radio. It is brand new.... I bought it just yesterday.
    . please help

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • ITunes radio now requires a username and password to listen to radio!

I recently noticed that when I try to listen to radio via iTunes it asks me for a "Members Only on pri.kts.-af.net" username and password. I have never had this issue before. Anyone know what happened or know where I can get a username and password?

My current theory is that there must have been some problem with internet options. Unable to find anything to change, I have just uninstalled internet explorer 9.
    Seems okay so far....
iTunes wifi sync seems less buggy too.
Time will tell. Will update if this has not solved the problem.

I have been trying in vain to listen to radio online.... I like to listen to BBC Radio 2 and some of the commercial american stations (Power 96).... A strange combination I know.

Maybe the Flip4Mac plugin for Quicktime will allow you to listen to those streams?

It's possible that the website you're visiting only supports Windows computers. Try downloading the Mac version of Windows Media Player. That solved most of my problems with streaming video on the internet.

  • Listening to Radio. Need you guys' advice.

    Hi guys,
I use Blackberry curve/Sprint on $30 SERO plan which covers unlimited data/text/weekend call/night call starting 7pm, and 500 min talk. It's such a cheap and great plan I don't really want to give up. The thing is, the Blackberry su*ks.
I am willing to give up the plan for an iPhone 3gs if it works for me. I listen to news/talk show or music radios all day long, not exactly all day long 'cause the blackberry refuses to work that hard, and sometimes it doesn't make it through a day. shame.
Checking the iPhone 3gs' tech specs, I found that it holds up to 5 hours on 3G. Since it doesn't have FM radio, the only way I listen to radio stations is using its 3g network, which means it's not going to make it through a day, either, I guess.
Any advice? Should I just give up and buy a mp3 player with FM radio function?

Well, that would probably be the best way to go; then you'll not deplete the iPhone's charge.
But I was able to listen to many internet radio stations on my original 2G (EDGE) iPhone. So you could disable 3G and probably substantially extend battery life.

I have had IPhones since their inception.  Last phone was the 5.  A few months ago, I upgraded to the 6 Plus.
    Here is my issue.
On my 5, my car radio (which has USB port) allowed me to plug in and listen to radio or music from my phone and the bonus was it charged the phone as well. All worked great.
Now with the 6 Plus, neither of things work.  The message on the radio (Kenwood) says I Pod error.  The message on my phone say's "this device is supported".
I have called on this before and was told you are aware and that the issue will be addressed in a future update.  There have been several updates on IOS 8 and the issue remains.

I have a Kenwood KDC-X695. When I purchased this stereo and had it installed, I had an ATT iPhone 4.
It worked with the stereo, but had a few issues. I had purchased a few audio books that I would listen to while driving. When I plugged it in it would immediately begin to play the book from the beginning or if I had been listening to music, it would start playing the song that was at the top of the song list.
The stereo came equipped with Firmware version 3.05. I upgraded to the iPhone 5 a year later. I had that phone for approximately 2 years. The song or book issue remained the same.
I just recently upgraded to the iPhone 6 and the Bluetooth function still works, however the USB port on the stereo that the phone plugs into to allow files on the phone to play through the stereo no longer works.
I contacted the service provider (Verizon) and after speaking to several different technical support technicians, they provided me the phone numbers for Kenwood and Apple because they were unable to help me.
I spoke with Kenwood technical support the following day and after a few fumbling miscues from the technical advisor, it was suggested that I upgrade the firmware, even though the Kenwood literature warns against this if the Bluetooth portion is working, because if there is a problem with the upgrade, it can render the Bluetooth useless and non-functional. The advisor did suggest the latest firmware on the second or third attempt, after I pointed out what I was able to glean from my initial search.
Later that day, I went back to the Kenwood site (from their homepage) and by using their selection tools, discovered that this particular model was only ever intended to be used with the iPhone 4S (the technical advisor was not aware of this, even though I mentioned this during my phone call earlier in the day). According to the Firmware selection tool, my iPhone 5 should not have worked with it.
I performed the Firmware upgrade, and it took 13 minutes. This was less than the 15 minutes that was forecast in the Kenwood literature. The Bluetooth still works but the USB cable connection still causes the unsupported device message that I received prior to the upgrade. I am incredibly annoyed and disappointed.
By upgrading to the iPhone 6, I have three choices; (1) only use the Bluetooth for phone calls without the ability to play other files from my iPhone 6 (2) forced obsolescence of my stereo, requires buying a new stereo (3) return my iPhone 6 and go back to my iPhone 5.
I do not believe that I should have to be a software/Firmware/hardware engineer, vetting every single device that I own; prior to upgrading a cell phone.
I am incredibly annoyed with Apple at the moment.
I have a separate Bluetooth headset that worked with both my iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 that the iPhone 6 simply does not recognize. That is another story for another time.
Currently, I am incredibly underwhelmed with Apple.

  • IS there any app to listen FM radio which does not need internet.

IS there any app to listen FM radio which does not need internet. Because my previous nokia phone had it and I can listen to local FM stations without connecting to internet.

To think outside the box, you could get a headset with FM:
Sony Ericsson MW600 Bluetooth Stereo Headset with FM Radio
Sony Ericsson MH907ch Bluetooth Stereo Headset with FM Radio
I use the first one with my Sony Ericsson phone, which although it does have a FM radio, doesn't work unless I have wired headphones plugged in.  And the streaming apps are choppy for me due to the weak 3G signal in my area.  (Constant rebuffering.)  So with these headsets, I have FM radio and can answer the phone without having to change earbuds and without having having to use up my cellphone's battery power to power the FM radio or the app.

  • Can't see the "press to listen to radio in the background" button on my abc radio app

Can't see the "press to listen to radio in the background" button on my abc radio app. It was there before but now it is gone. I must have changed some setting to remove it, but I don't know what I did. Help please. I have uninstalled then reinstalled this app, but the same problem persists.

This seems like a problem from the Apple servers, which only they can fix. Try again in a few hours and see if you can update then.
