Listening While Recording Help?

Hi, I have been useing GarageBand for a while now and have been recording acoustic guitar through both real instrument and electric setting. Now that I'm confident in the program and my musical talent, I want to up the bar a bit by getting a better recourding. The major problem is I would like to listen to myself play while recording. Not being able to hear the effects while playing kinda eliminates the use of them.
Recording is not a prob, but I get all this noise and I can't figure out how to eliminate it. Especially when I use the preloaded amps and stompbox. Its almost like feedback but not really. I can only explain it as white noise, like the amps are turned up to loud or something.
My original setup consisted of acoustic recorded via usb webcam mic into GB. As I said this was sufficant until now.
Things I have done to eliminmate the noise issue:
* Bought a real microphone connected via built in input cause I thought the webcam mic was either to crappy or to sensitive. *Did Not Work*
*Bought an M-Audio FastTrack connected via USB.
Mic/M-Audio/Mac. Sound not quite as bad but can not hear myself play via headphone jack on M-Audio *Did Not Work*
*Played around with different volume levels on anything I could find dealing with volume. *Did Not Work*
*Various other things *Did Not Work*
How can I eliminate the noise, get a clean recording while at the same time being able to listen and hear effects as I play?

If your able to record through the audio interface, you probably need to turn the monitor on and use the headphones through your computer not the interface. Thats how i do it at least.

Hi, I`m recording my voice using a Audigy 2 ZS and my headphones.
I want to listen my voice while recording but I can't, I only can listen my voice after recording when playback. I need return.
Do I need to configure my Audigy?
    Can you help me?

    Robertorubio,
Unmute the Microphone from the surround mixer and you should hear your microphone while recording.

  • Listening while recording

Can I listen while I record my own voice, using a headset or a mic and headphones?

can I listen to my recorded guitar track WHILE I record the bass track?
You absolutely can. Just record enable the bass track, hit record and as it records, the first Track and any other recorded Tracks will play (unless you mute them or solo the Track recording.)
btw, I don't think there's anyone out there who can really record only to a waveform. Although I sometimes watch it to help me stay on the beat.

  • Listening while recording---dumb question?

I'm new to GB and kind of learning-as-I-go, but I can't seem to figure this out. This is my first recording, and I recorded an electric guitar track. I want to lay down a bass track but how do I listen to my guitar track while I'm playing bass? I'm seriously not a good enough musician to play bass to a silent track just looking at the waveform.
And on an unrelated note, even with Monitor On, I cannot hear my electric guitar through my computer speakers whole I'm playing (nor my headphones, for that matter).
    Any help is appreciated!

  • Listening while recording through headphones!

So, I am currently using an M-Audio Profire 610 interface connected via a 6pin to 9 pin firewire to record some vocals and acoustic guitar parts with an Audi0-Technia AT2020 condenser mic. EVerything is hooked up fine and I can record with garageband well. My question is how can I make it so that I can here myself talking or singing into the mic whilst wearing headphones connected directly into the Profire interface. I have both the audio inputs and outputs for both garageband and my MB Pro (Unibody Aluminum) set to the go through the Interface but i cant hear anything through my headphones. Any suggestion would be a great help!

  • Playback while recording question - help!

    Hi, all!
Just started using GB, so forgive me if this has been addressed, but I'd really appreciate the help. Say I have two tracks - I record one guitar track, then I want to record vocals while listening to that guitar track (to sing along). However, when I do this, obviously, the microphone for vocals picks up the guitar track being played on my computer, thus making the guitar louder and the vocals buried beneath what is essentially now TWO tracks of guitar. Is there a way to play back a track only in headphones while recording a new track to it?
    Thanks so much!

Yes. Plug headphones into the computer, just like the pros do it. Just make sure the built-in output is selected in GB Prefs>Audio/MIDI.

  • LogicX Rec Problem. I can't hear while recording no matter I turn on Auto Input Monitoring at menu or channel. On certain songs I could thru AUX to REC, my L7/8/9 procedure. Now, inconsistent, not work. Any help?

    Logic X Recording Problem
I can't hear (ex.) voice back while recording no matter I turn on Auto Input Monitoring at Record Menu or Channel Strip.
On certain old projects I could when thru AUX to REC, which was my L7/8/9 procedure.
Recording takes place on a consolidated session, all audio tracks with no latency, which actually happens only it can't be heard.
Monitoring is very inconsistent and in fact doesn't work at all. Any help?

Correction: actually "thru AUX to REC channel" is not effective.
It's just that I can input monitor thru an extra AUX channel independently of the REC channel.
Sending the source to be recordered to aux and audio rec at same time.

  • HELP!! No sound while recording thrugh M-Audio firewire 410

I am using Logic express 7 with an M-Audio firewire 410. I have my guitar plugged into the mbox and Logic is picking up the signal from my guitar, but I cannot monitor the sound while recording OR hear anything else at all. When I unplug the mbox, however, I can hear everything that i just recorded along with everything else in the song fine. I just need some help figuring out how to monitor the sound, PLEASE!!!!

Logic always uses the same audio interface for input AND output, so I suppose your problem is that you do not have any speakers connected to you M-Audio interface. Try adding a pair of speakers to it. If there's still no sound, go to Logic's audio settings and see if "software monitoring" is active or not.

What's your setup? Normally you hear all  tracks (that are not muted) in your headphones while you record a new one.

  • Listening while dubbing lp records?

Is there a way to listen to an lp record "while" recording it directly from the turntable to Soundtrack Pro? That is to say, I would like to hear the song on the computer speakers "during" the recording or dubbing process. Is this possible?
Thanks in advance for any tips.

Are you able to record anything at all from the phonograph as it is? If so, you should hear it when monitoring is set to the iMic.
A phonograph's ouput is very tiny. Ideally, you would use a preamp to amplify the tiny output of the phonograph up to line level, and then set your iMic to "Line". I guess I don't know enough about the iMic to know if it should see any signal set to "Mic", but it probably wouldn't sound ideal even if it did. Phono preamps are voodoo.
I guess I would test the iMic setup to see if it's working correctly by plugging a tape deck, CD player, VCR, or anything else that puts out a line level signal and seeing if I could get that to work first. Then if it turns out to be a level issue, you could get a phono preamp, or if you have a home stereo laying around you could use it's phono input and use a tape monitor output to go Soundtrack. In that latter setup, you could listen through the home stereo receiver as well as monitoring through the computer in Soundtrack.

Lost all of my audio settings when I upgraded to LION. Now I cannot hear my guitar while recording in GB. I can hear the audio during playback, but not while recording. I have a simple guitar USB cable.

VSTS load test QUESTION : While recording the webPerformanceTest, is it is possible to clear / force to clear cache without stopping or closing the IE on recorder?
I am facing issue, while recording the webtest, our application first time loading any screen calls some requests and 2nd time when browsed the same information if it is available at cache then it will not
    call the requests again.
How can i force the VSTS to clear cache while recording, so that i can record those requests which gets called at the first time.
    Regards
    SatishK

    Hi SatishK,
    Thanks for your reply.
    >>but my question was while recording (During recording using web test recorder) i want to clear cache.
    Based on your issue,
I did some research about it,
but I still find the official document about it. Generally, I know that if we want to clear the web performance test by the
Cashe Control properties, so I think that it is not possible to clear the cashes when we are recording the web performance.
If you still want to this feature for web performance test, I suggest you could submit this feature request:
