Listing of web sites blocked by BT

Hi all,
Does anyone know of the existence of a list of sites that BT actively block at the exchange?  I have raised this question with the customer service department and was told that the issue would be dealt with.  I have heard nothing since.
Why do I want such a list?  Simply to make an informed decision as to which service provider to use; which provider sees the internet as a free and open resource.
To the MOD.
Can you get this for me please?  I don't want to have to FOI it, but I will if I continue to be stonewalled by BT representatives.
Regard,
UU.

Hmm.  I'm sure that such a thing would be kept as low profile as is possible, but there are issues of informed consent and the ability of a customer to make an informed choice as to how they spend their money.  As an example of the issue consider this: if it is not possible to know what sites are being blocked then it is not possible to identify obstructive censorship.
Now I'm not suggesting that covert and widespread censorship is occurring, merely that it is currently impossible to determine if such actions are taking place: transparency is an issue.

UU.

  • How do I get rid of the list of web sites that I visited. I was unable to follow instructions in the help section.

'''bold text'''When I click the little down arrow at the end of the address line, I get a long list of sites I visted. How do I get rid of them.
I went to help, but i could not make heads or tails of what I was supposed to do. The instructions were confusing.

Entries in the location bar drop down list with a yellow (blue on Mac) star at the right end are bookmarks.<br />
You can remove such a bookmarked item that shows in the list if you open that url in a tab and click the yellow star in the location bar.<br />
This will open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog and you can click the Remove button to remove the bookmark if you want to remove such a bookmarked entry.<br />

  • Every time I use yahoo to search a topic, or try to access a new page on yahoo's list of web sites I get an error message. WHY?

This happens every time: I will do a search on Yahoo and when I click on one of the pages listed I get a 404 'page not found' error message. This happens way too much - what is going on?

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

  • Accept cookies from my web sites list only

    Hi,
yet on Safari 4.0.4 I don't see an option which indeed should be very useful: "Accept coockies from my web sites custom list only". With this option I could quickly compile a list with the web sites I like to leave my info and exclude all the rest. For example, I should put on this list only web sites like facebook.com, discussion.apple.com, twitter.com because they need to store my username and password to automatically log in on the next times. I will exclude all the other web sites, which usually gather informations I don't like to share with.
It's an option about the privacy. So I presume it should be welcome by the whole Mac community.

No, Safari does not offer that, but there is an alternative that might also work for you:
I have Cookie Preferences set to 'Accept cookies only for sites I visit', but I only wish to retain cookies for the sites i regularly visit, like these forums and others.
To that end I use a small app called SafariCookies:
    http://sweetpproductions.com/safaricookies/
which only works on Leopard and Snow Leopard. This adds an item in Safari Preferences whereby you can automatically delete all cookies on shutdown, except those particular 'favourite' ones you wish to retain to avoid entering your user name and password each time you visit.

  • The display of web sites in response to a search is showing up very small on my screen. How do I get it back to regular size?

I may have unknowingly punch a combination of keys or something on the menu. But the result is that when I do a search, the resulting list of web sites shows up very small in the upper left hand corner of my screen. How do I get the display to default back to regular size? Now the default is tiny type that I can't even read. Thanks.

  • How can I add bulks of web sites to a certain existing source?

    Hello,
we administrate web sites in a database application and we like now to sznc the list in this application with those inside oses for a certain exsisting source. So we need either to knwo how to bring bigger lists of web sites into oses via the admin web pages or via other methods.
So it would be nice to have a mthod, which can be used in scripts.
Does anybody use something simular or created a solution for this task?

  • Is Firefox blocking my access to the IRS web site?

I cannot access the Irs web site. The processor times out.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

  • How to temporary block list of web pages?

Hi While working I need access to web pages (I am developing web applications) but same time often I got distracted and spend my time reading interesting articles on web instead doing my job. I was using LeechBlock addon for Firefox, but now I migrated to chrome. So my question is:
Is there simple way how to temporary block list of web pages for all browsers?
It is OK to block http/https access only, but no problem to block all traffic from/to this sites. I need to by able to easily start/stop this block.

No. Each domain has (or has not) its own IP address. The IP address of a parent domain has no influence on the IP address of subdomains.
If you want to be able to use willcard, the best way is probably to base the filtering on HTTP level traffic.
That is directly in the client (firefox/chrome extensions)
Or, using an http proxy (squid).
Or, may be, using iptables with rules that match the URL.
    eg
sudo iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -m string --string "google.com" --algo kmp -j DROP
will block outgoing traffic matching "google.com". You can of course tune better rules.
sudo iptables -F OUTPUT will flush all rules.
You can then add many "iptables -A OUTPUT" lines in a script, and associate a key shortcut to this script...
Well, an extension to the browser is probably preferable. I give this solution only for the fun

  • A web site that I use daily has disappeard from my "Most Visited" list. In spite of my continued use of the site plus deletion of other sites that I seldom use, thus making room on the list for the site I want to be listed there, it doesn't.

A bookmarked web site for weather that I use daily - often more than once a day - has disappeared from my Most Visited list. In spite of my continued use of the site for a week now, plus deleting other sites that I seldom use that have started showing up on the Most Visited list, thus making room on the list for the weather site, it still doesn't reappear there. I have to open Bookmarks to access the weather site. So the site is still there, but not on the Most Visited list. I tried removing and re-entering the site in Bookmarks, but that didn't solve the Most Visited list problem. Thanks for your help.

Your browser has been hijacked. You can test it by going to any search site besides scroogle and looking up antivirus, malware removal, or any other term like that. It will show you the results but you wont be able to go to any of those pages. In my opinion this is the worst kind of virus because it is so hard to get rid of. You'll remove it and it will self replicate and you'll have it again. Scroogle works because it acts as a proxy between you and the search site google. Follow that guys directions who replied before me. When that doesn't work try to get a copy of Stopzilla antivirus. I had my browser hijacked once and that got rid of it. If that doesnt work, download the Comodo web browser. They give away a month of free Geekbuddy assistance with their browser. Use it. Chances are you will have to contact an IT proffesional of some sort anyway. But you'll never feel really clean again and you'll become paranoid about using the web and you'll get every popup blocker and java script stopper there is. But that still won't be enough and you'll dump windows altogether becuase there just are'nt that many viruses that work on Linux.... oh wait.. that was me...

  • I have Mac OSX maxmini; Safari states "can't open server since starting with 'open-help-anchor'.  How do I get into the web site this is blocking?

I have Mac Mini OSX 10.6.2; Safari states "can't open server since url starting with 'open-help-anchor'.  I didn't type this but possibly I was hijacked but it only occurs on the specific banking site I'm trying to get into.  How do I get into the web site I've always been able to get but now this is blocking it?   Is this related to cookies?

I started a thread in safari maverics, I ment to put it in iOS Safari.  New Thread lists all the steps I've taken.  No I haven't tried another browser.  I've only ever used Safari on my iDevices.

  • Allow few site and block all other web sites

Hi i  need sample configuration using rogex  command   to   allow few web sites and block  to 192.168.2.0 networks and allow full  access to 192.168.10 .0 networks . i have configures two inside network

You could try something like the following to allow traffic to specific websites and then deny all other web/https traffic.  Keep in mind that in the configuration I am assuming you have two seperate interfaces for the two network connected to the ASA (that could be two subinterfaces or two seperate physical interfaces.
    access-list LAN1 permit tcp 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0 any eq http
