LITE Bios Promise MSI 845PE MAX2 FIR

Can any one tell me where I can find an update for the promise lite bios to the normal bios.
I have 4 harddisks attached and I can only create 1 raid array.
I would like to create a second on but the lite bios doesn't allow this.
Thanks

cartoen - no, that's not correct. You can create as many arrays as you wish.
The trick is, attach your drives one at a time. This allows the lite BIOS to define each drive as a separate array.
Or you can create 2 arrays of course, or 3 - just add the drives in the order you want.
So - for a 2 drive array, add 2 drives at the same time. Raid BIOS combines the two as a single array.
For single drive arrays, add one drive at a time, then switch off and add new drive(s). (This is what I do)

  • MSI 845PE MAX2-FIR...6 USB Ports?

Okay, so I recently installed my MSI mobo. everything went exceptionally well. No major issues at all...except...
     Well, here goes...
The manual states that this motherboard has 6 USB 2.0 compatability...2 Rear, and 4 Front.
Okay, obviously the 2 rear ones are integrated, but where are the pins for the 4 front USB ports?
I have a Lian Li aluminum case. It has 4 USB ports accessable on the front of the case.
Inside the case, coming from the front ports, there are a total of 16 wires, all single pin connectors, (4 per port). I can't seem to find where to connect these to on the mobo, so I can use my front ports.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Fres

According the the manual the board has 4 rear and 2 front ports.
There are 2 rear ports under the PS/2 ports and another 2 above the audio ports.
The 2 front ports are connected to JUSB1 (page 2-27 of the manual).

  • WinXP and MSI 845PE MAX2

    Got the following problem.
    I've just purchased an MSI 845PE MAX2 (MS-6704) with a PIV 2,4ghz 533 processor and 512mb DDR PC2700.
Onboard USB/FIREWIRE/LAN and ATA133raid are enabled. My graphics card is a Matrox G400 which is using IRQ10.
    I have 3 HDD's installed together with 1 DVD-ROM and 1 3,5" diskdrive.
I have WinXP proffesional installed without any servicepack.
When I boot my system, everythings goes fine. I see the XP bootscreen and so. After the bootscreen, the pc normally goes to the sign-in screen. Well not for me.
After the bootscreen my monitor goes black, not standby just black and the system doesn't do anything.
Booting in save mode is no problem.
I have also disabled all the onboard stuff and booted the system with only my graphicscard in it. There is no IRQ that is used twice.
    Can somebody help me?
    thx

    Yeah, strange isn't?!
I've installed the RAID drivers during installation (HIT F6 if you want to install a third party driver)
Finished installation, restarted the pc and it gave this problem.
    So for short:
    Builded a new pc.
    Everything worked.
Installed WinXP on a new HDD (80gb WD)
Made 1 partition of 8gb NTFS, the rest is unallocated.
Installed WinXP without any service packs
    XP installed the drivers for:
USB/FIREWIRE/LAN/RAID/SOUND and also for some PCIcards: SCSIcard without bios, SB Live.
I had also a Pinnacle TVcard placed in the system but XP doesn't have any drivers included for it.
    After finishing installation, rebooted.
    XP wouldn't start.
    Removed all pci cards.
    same problem
    disabled USB/FIREWIRE/LAN/SOUND
    still the same problem.
Maybe a driver problem of a pci card which I removed but still is 'installed' in XP?

  • MSI 845PE Max2 (MS-6580 v2.0) Help Please!

    OK... I'm confused  ?(
    Well... I got the MSI 845PE Max2 - L (MS-6580 v2.0) on
order. Now I'm reading that alot of peeps having so
    many problems with it!  8o
I just read a reply from Assaf saying that the board was SUED?
First off, what does this mean?
Should I return this board when it arrives or keep it?
Also, Im a little unclear of the difference between the
    845PE Max2 (MS-6704) & the 845PE Max2 (MS-6580 v2.0)
Why are there 2 Different models that both say 845PE Max2?
    NOTE:
    I plan on using my Crucial DDR 333 (2 x 256MB) & a PIV 2.40 (533MHz FSB).
    My other Specs are below.....
    Any help will be appreciated.
I rather not even open the box if this board has MAJOR problems.[/color]

Uhmm i think you are mixing boards
There is no such board (at least not yet) as a 845pe-max2 version 2.0 there is a 845pe-max version 2. There is some difference between the max and the max2 board. The max version only has room for two dimms, no bluetooth/raid and gigabit support. So you are talking about two completely different boards but with very similar names I'm not a motherboard expert but i have tried the max2 version (6704) and i wasn't completely satisfied, cpu temp is way off, bios upgrade caused wierd problems, when using my adaptec 2940uw controller raid bios disappers. I think this is a result of the companies releasing their products to soon, as far as i can tell (and i have been reading a bit ) all 845pe based motherboards have their problems. When you ask what to buy everyone is saying asus p4pe, i for one think that asus is overpriced and i really don't wanna waste money on a serial ata solution which has no future. Their onboard audio isn't suported by freebsd. I have not decided quite yet, i was actually rather satisfied with my msi 845pe max2, it has a lot of nice features and i like msi liveupdate, the board runs perfectly with other os's than windows, but i will see some response from msi regarding those problems there is,
and currently i'm awating to see if msi will release a bios that perhaps will fix those problems i (and alot others) had with this board.
    Regards

  • MSI 845PE MAX2 FSB 800???

I've got the MSI 845pe max2, and have been trying to find out if it's possible to get FSB 800 of this board like the MSI 845PE MAX3?

    Hi,
You're using the "Network access" service of the desktop box I guess? That gives you access to the Bluetooth LAN adapter being installed with the Widcomm software. If you want to make some connections out you have to configure Internet connection sharing on the desktop box as well - and ofcourse make sure that the two devices are correctly paired with sufficient permissions in the security config. I have been running about the same setup on a slightly older 845E Max2-BLR MB using XP with virtually zero issues...

  • Dose 845PE Max2 FIR support Solaris (Sun OS)?

    hi..
Dose 845PE Max2 FIR support Solaris 8 or 9(Sun OS)?
    please let me know it..
    thank you..

I'm still deciding whether to get the newest Solaris. I have not tried Solaris7 on mine. My guess would be that, if it installs, the onboard sound (may) not work.

  • Msi 845PE max2 bluetooth problem

    i have a msi 845PE max2 BFIR, intel 2,4/533 , 512 DDR 2700 and im running w2k pro.

my problem i have bought an extra msi bluetooth usb key so i could connect wireless to my p4 system.
after installing the software (ver:1.2.2.15) i can do : receive business cards, make a serial port connection do file transfers.
the problem that i have is making a network access connection.
when i try it i get a dail-in screen, i enter admin + password , the bluetooth is then telling me
"bezig met het registreren van deze computer in het netwerk"
(busy with registration of this computer in the network)
after a couple of seconds there is an error.

  • Problems with my msi 845pe max2 bfir

right 2 problems first which is quiet annoying,
one of the reasons i bought the bfir model over the others was because of the bluetooth now i go to set it up install programs etc and shut down pc get bluetooth card go to put it in and..... um where does it conect to i look in the manual and it says use usb lead to connect it to blue usb bort on motherboard or somethink along thouse lines fine i think i will just get the lead and um ??? where is the lead read the supplied installation booklet and cable is optional !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how the f*** can msi say that the board comes with bluetooth when u cant use it unless u have the cable that is just silly, where am i sposed to gget the cable from ???? please help.
    on to second problem
    overclocking
now my cpu is a p4 2.4b 533 and my ram is some OCZ PC 3500 512mb now i set the fsb to 166x18 and that gives me 2987mhz fine u say, and i set the memory to 333 but the memmory is seriously lagging its running at 165mhz but on a friends abit motherboard cant remember the model number with the same settings im running the memory fsb is well over 250fsb, ive been told this is cos my memory isnt running in async and on the abit board to sort this they have a feature called hardware strapping why doesnt the msi board run the same they are bothe the same chipsets, would the latest bios cure this ????
if so why didnt msi just do it that way in the first place ???????
    MaLicE
please help me answer my questions

yes i have the blue extra box but to actually connect the bluetooth card to the motherboard but if you were to look at yours the way u connect the blutooth card to the motherboard requires a cable which has the same connectors on as the extra usb ports you get i need a cable with 1 of them connectors on each end cos the bluetooth card plugs in to 1 of the spare usb slots on the motherboard.
as for overclocking i want the best out of my system i dont want to settle for standard the option msi have left out is a big option and i need to know why or if it is there where is it and if not is it in the new bios ???

  • MSI 845PE Max2 RAM Problems

I have some problems with putting in the 2nd RAM stick.
    I m running on a
    P4 2,4 GHz
    1x 256MB DDR333 RAM pc2700 (from nanya or whatever)
    BIOS 1.2 AMI
When i put the 2nd RAM stick in, (also 1x256 MB DDR 333 RAM pc2700 but from Twinmos) it boots up but shuts down in 3 seconds, and sometimes it just boots up but the screen stays undetected.
I have tried a Dane-Elec (256 MB DDR 333 RAM pc2700) and the problem kept occuring.
I have tried several slot combinations and the Twinmos ram stick doesnt work ny itself (?...so didnt the Dane Elec stick)
    What could be my problem?
Thanks in advance for the help,
    Ron

If you have a module that won't work by itself, I would (suspect) a bad module. May not be seated all the way?
Another thing with this board.....Slot one supports two banks and slots two and three share two banks.

  • 845PE Max2-FIR Beeps

Strange problem.  My computer beeps.  It seems to work fine but on or off every ten minutes or so two quick beeps will sound.  Could this be my motherboard battery?  If so what's the process to change it?

My 845e mobo also beeps a couple of times quite frequently (sometimes with a couple of clicking sounds in between the 2 beeps)
I still havnt found out why this happens or indeed whats causing it.
Maybe between us we can see what matching components we may have cos despite me posting several times in the past here at these forums i still didnt get any help as to the possible cause.
PS: i have had alot of PC's in the past (all home built by myself) and ive never heard any of them beep at me during 'normal' use, this has had me baffled for along time now, i have already changed my mobo battery as this was the first thing i tried.

  • My Pc doesn't wake up from standby (845PE Max2)

     Hi,
I have Windows Xp Pro installed and when I stand by my computer I can't get it to wake up successfuly. The PC is powered up when I press the power button, but I don't get any video signal or USB power (both my keyboard and mouse are connected to USB ports, and they don't get power after waking up).
Any clue on this? What should I do to make it work?
And could it have something to do with installed software? Besides the drivers for the hardware on the end of this message, I have Norton Internet Security 2003 (antivirus + firewall), Nero ImageDrive and Daemon Tools (these are tools similar to VirtualCD, thus making new cd/dvd drives available on my system).

     Hi,
I own a Chieftec full tower black case that came with a 360W power supply from Chieftec (with PFC). I know this isn't a "top of the line" power supply, but I think it is enough to handle my system.
Besides the power issue, what could influence this? I know that my PC handled well the standby feature, but this was before I made some changes (moved a CD burner to the Intel IDE bus and placed a hard drive on the Promise controller, replacing the CD burner).

  • 845PE Max2 & Hyper Threading in BIOS?

    Hi all.
I know i dont have a Hyper Threading CPU
but i dont have the option in my BIOS,why?
Im using the latest bios v1.2.
Shouldnt it be an option for it,like the manual says?

    MSI 845PE max2 (MS-6704) bios 1.2
    has HT-function enable/disable in
    in Advanced bios features -menu.
It may require DDR333 , bur I'm not sure.
It's different thing, when you enables it without 3,06 GHz cpu, works it or not. Maybe not...

  • Immediate boot after shutdown on 845pe max2

Got my brand new PC with a MSI 845PE MAX2 mainboard (MS-6704) in an AOPEN casing. Problem: if i select shutdown in WinXPpro the machine shuts down (even power-led is off). And then immediately it boots/starts again.
What could this be? I already removed all unnecessary cards, network connection, modem, second HDU, unplugged all USB devices. Turned off APM in the BIOS setting. Changed to an older type keyboard and mouse. Still same problem. All lastest drivers installed, lates BIOS (AMI 1.2) installed. All Xp service packs extra patches are installed.
Any suggestions? Switchg from S3 to S1 mode in ACPI standbystate doesnt make any difference. Turning off ACPI is a bad idea, as the machine wont boot XP anymore.
Pressing the on/off button the machine shuts down as expected and doesnt turn itself on anymore. Where can i find more info on the S1, S3 modes etc?

Indeed it was a faulty powersupply. I tried with a Qtec 400W and that one works perfectly. So thank you Assaf for the suggestion. I already tries all i could find in all newsgroups, just this was my last resort. Now to convince my supplier to get me a decent (quiet) powersupply!

  • Keyboard-WAKE/BOOT-UP with 845PE Max2 (v2.0) ??

Maybe you got this question before, but:
Is it NOT possible to start/boot this motherboard by using the keyboard??
I have not seen any options in the BIOS (flashed to the latest v3.1)... however - there's an option to use the keyboard to wake-up from the S3-state (stand-by)... but that's not really useful for me!
I want to power-on the machine by using the keyboard and/or mouse only!!! (The PSU handles 2A on the 5VSB trail)
I thought this was standard on most motherboards nowadays but I can't really see this on the MSI 845PE Max2...
Have I missed something out?  (Is this a BIOS issue only? The realtime-clock-power-on the system works just fine - so I suppose the keyboard feature could be implemented fairly easy??)
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Tobias Nilsson

Gosh, I've tried it!  S3 state is not an option!!! (but S1 is?)
What I want is simply this (one scenario of many):
    * plug in the power to the psu/computer
    * turn the damn thing on using the keyboard!
(that's because I'm using a fine logitech cordless keyboard and I'm just so cool  :]  I don't want/need to pressing the "power-on" button on the computer case!)
Gosh, I've done this on the MSI (k7n420) and the ASUS motherboards for years...
Well, guess I've to talk to MSI... (wish me luck...)

  • Driver\'s problems with 845PE Max2

    Hello to everyone...
    I am a fan of MSI's boards and recently i bought an MSI 845PE max2 m/b.
I have a problem with a device. In Windows Xp Prof wih service pack 1, a device called ''SM BUS Controller" cannot be installed and I can't find any driver that fix this problem. I tried to reinstall windows and to unplug any extra devices (such as usb devices, printers etc) but nothing happens.
Last but not least, when I try to install the INTEL chipset drivers that MSI provides us from the site, the PC reboots at 15% of the installation procedure and windows crash getting a message ''the file pci32.sys is missing or it is corrupt''.
Furthermore i have no complaints about my board. It is stable as a rock and has everything i need...
Thank you, and forgive me about my english... 8)

You need to install the Intel INF driver which is in de MSI download area )
