Brief about Console, data manager and Import manager
Hi,
Iam new to MDM we just started installing our MDM components and iam a MM functional guy Can you any one tell me about console, data manager and import manger i need to know the following,
1. what is it
2. How the 3 is interlinked
3. can the data manager be loaded directly without a import
4. is there a std way of creating repository
5. I need to do samples on vendor, customer harmonisation and the spend analysis and matl master harmonisation..
Iam asking too much in this forum but i knw you guys are there to help me out.
Thanks in advance,
SureshMDM Console
The MDM Console allows the system manager to administer and monitor the MDM Server, and to create, maintain the structure of, and control access to the MDM repositories themselves. Records are not entered or managed with the MDM Console, but rather with client apps such as the MDM Client.
MDM Client(data manager)
The MDM Client is the primary client of the MDM Server, and is the program most users see on their PCs. It allows users to store, manage and update master data consisting of text, images, and other rich content, and to create taxonomies, families, and relationships. Other clients include the Import Manager, the Image Manager, and the Syndicator.
Import Manager
Allows you to import master data from most types of flat or relational electronic
source files (e.g. Excel, delimited text, SQL, XML, and any ODBC-compliant source),
and to restructure, cleanse, and normalize master data as part of the import process.
<i>2. How the 3 is interlinked</i>
--->
Suppose you are sending vendor information to MDM repository be sending IDOC from R/3. Then the whole process can go as... IDOC will be sent to XI, so XI will generate XML file that contains data. Then import manager can import this file and will so place the data in repository.
Now if you want to send data in MDM repository, the process goes reverse way. Syndicator will generate flat/xml file. This file will be given to XI so that XI will generate IDOC out of it and will send it to XI. This whole process ensures data consistancy

Master Data Management with SAP
Hi
Master data management in SAP platform is in Compilation

a system capable to do this compilation./In other words SAP Master Data Management is a code programmer In Java

his compilation in Java. Vb C++ is the system mangement architecture. Code is fabricated in this environment for Sap Master Data Management
K BalakrishnanHello Michelle,
First of all, MDM Admin UI and SRM-MDM Search UI both are in same sca file (SRMMDMCAT20SP03P05.sca) and there is another sca file with API and MDM Connector (MDMJAVAAPI06_2.sca).
Remember that files name might be change as per the business content version.
So there are two file which you need to deploy. You can deploy these two file on any Web Application Server (WAS 7.0 and Above) using Software Deployment Manager (SDM) of SAP NW AS J2EE installation.
For further information about these files, you can refer the SAP Note- 1057316 -- SRM-MDM Catalog 2.0 - Installation & Configuration.
For checking the successful deployment of these SCA files, you can check with the mentioned below URL:
http://ServerName:PortNo/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/tcmdmsrmcat~uisearch/MDM_SRM_UI_App
go to the above link, try to connect with the MDM Server which you have installed. After connecting the MDM Server, Choose your SRM-MDM Catalog repository and try to connect with the user as "Master" with blank pwd. If you are able to login in the repository, it means you have successfully deployed the correct sca files.
For further details regarding this scenario, you can refer my answer in below thread:
installion of SRM-MDM Catalog 2.0
I hope, this will clear your doubt. If you need further help, Kindly update us.

What is master data management
i want know clearly abut MDM in SAP.
Hi naresh reddy ,
SAP NetWeaver MASTER DATA MANAGEMENT
SAP NetWeaver Master Data Management (SAP NetWeaver MDM) is an enabling foundation for enterprise services and business process management -- providing a single version of the truth for customer, product, employee, supplier, or user-defined data objects.
Working across heterogeneous systems at disparate locations, SAP NetWeaver Master Data Management ensures cross-system data consistency through interactive distribution. It integrates business processes across the extended value chain, delivering features and functions to enable:
Master data consolidation -- Consolidate master data for companywide analysis and reporting. SAP NetWeaver Master Data Management consolidates and cleanses master data objects from disparate systems. After consolidation, it stores information from different systems in a centralized repository. Related rich content can be included to augment the data store.
Synchronization and distribution of master data -- Enable consistent data maintenance and distribution to ensure permanent harmonization of master data. Using global attributes, you can ensure that all systems receive the same master data during distribution -- and enrich the distributed data objects with additional attribute values in the target systems. Distribution can be controlled, visible, and traceable, with active status management at each distribution step.
Centralized management of master data -- Supports companywide quality standards by ensuring that central control of master data begins as soon as the data is created. Centrally created master data can subsequently be distributed to client systems as required using interactive distribution.
Administration of master data -- Manage master data without custom code. A powerful interface supports administrative tasks such as data exception handling and assignment of role-based access to business processes and information. Data managers use the interface to configure data source merging, business rules, and distribution details to downstream applications.
Management of internal content -- Collect and centralize all your content -- including parametric information and rich content such as images, paragraphs of text, PDF documents, and organizational intelligence about content -- in an enterprisewide repository.
Catalog search -- Deploy intuitive interfaces that help you locate items internally, publish Web catalogs on e-commerce storefronts and in supplier enablement programs, and integrate easy-to-search catalogs into e-procurement solutions -- all from a centralized repository, and all at speeds surpassing normal SQL-based queries.
Print catalog customization -- Disseminate product information directly from a centralized catalog repository to popular desktop publishing programs, and automatically generate fully formatted and populated page layouts.
Multichannel syndication of product catalog content -- Publish restructured and reformatted extracts or incremental updates of your product catalog content -- and distribute them to trading partners in several delimited text and XML formats -- on an unscheduled or regular basis.
Business process support -- Enable communication in a heterogeneous environment, and insert master data into other systems.
Business analytics and reporting -- Leverage synchronized data for reliable analysis and accurate reporting.

Central Master Data Management
Hi All,
Can anyone tell me about central master data management ?
In what way it is difference from consolidation and harmonization?
I have gone through several documents but i did n't get any idea on that topic.
If anyone have knowledge on CMDM, Please explain in their own words.
Thanks
NarendraConsolidation and Harmonization procedures are very different from CMDM (central master data management), however often times CMDM is not very useful without considering the other two as well.
Consolidation essentially means creating identity around your master data across your landscape. More specifically you want to identify duplicate records and merge them into one record. Harmonization is the process of pushing the new cleansed data back out to your partner systems.
Central master data management is the process of creating and managing enterprise level attributes in one place. One common mistake that people make is that central master data management means having one place to create your records and containing ALL data. This is not correct, MDM focuses on enterprise level attributes. In other words, which attributes are KPI's, shared across multiple processes in scope, shared across multiple systems, important for reporting, need ultimate quality, etc. Once you have determined your data model then you begin developing the workflow (if needed) around the creation of master data. This way you can easily keep your data clean and free of duplicates moving forward following a consolidation and harmonization process. -
Link To Download the documentation for Oracle Master Data Management
Hi,
I require to make a hierarchy for Processes in Master Data management.
Where do you suggest will I get the user guides for all the Softwares in MDM.?
Thanks,
AeronLooks like product related question - not a question about the download service which is the topic of this forum.
MDM suite has a range of products so you need to be more specific when looking.
You might want to post in a relevant forum category, if one exists for your specific product, such as:
https://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=157
Please do not hijack someone's thread ({thread:id=2354806}) - instead start a new one
Likely place to look for download (which should include documentation) in this case is edelivery.oracle.com.
Some docs are also available from:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18727_01/nav/scm.htm

Can anyone please tell me some basic infomation about Master data?
Can anyone please tell me some basic infomation about Master data like
1)The history of master data
2) Why it is so critical
3) What the advantages of it
4) What is the future of master data
Any inputs in this regard will be very helpful
Thanks in advanceHi Gowri,
Master data is backbone of any business software. It helps us to do transaction.
If you go to any ATM and do some transaction, you get a monthly statement. This monthly statement contains your address details and your transaction details.
So your address details and your account is like master data which is not changed so frequently but your transactions keep on happening on regular basis on your account and name.So your name and account are your master data which is set up once and donot change so frequently.
Similary if you create a Purchase order in SAP system. You need Material master and vendor master. The material master contains material details and vendor master contains vendor details and using that you create PO which is a transactional data which keep on happening for a particular vendor & material combination on regular basis.
So we set up master data once and make changes to these only when needed and record transaction against that.
So in first case your banking details which you enter while opening account is your master data and in next case Material Master and vendor master is master data which set up mostly once.
There are three types of data in SAP system
1. Organizational level data (ICICI Bank and Branch)
2. Master data (Your User data while opening account)
3. Transactional data (Your Regular transaction).
I hope ,you are clear on this by now.
There is a SAP software in Netweaver Stack now called MDM (Master data management) which will help to manage master data.

Please reward points if this helps.

Looking for Master Data Management in non-Netweaver environmets
Hello
Based on SAP literature I have read on Master data Management (MDM) ,it is a component of Netweaver product family.
Currently we are running SAP R/3 Enterprise edition(4.7C) and wish to have some form of MDM to maintain a consistent view of master data across different landscapes. Theses landscapes span different geographic and administrative areas.
Is there any product either from SAP or third-party vendors which can offer a solution for MDM in environments such as ours that have not yet switched to Netweaver.
Kind Regards
MohammadHi,
SAP definately offers SAP-MDM soultion. Yet its part of netweaver family but you can buy and install in seperately if you wish not to switch to Netweaver.
Its a myth that SAP-MDM is only for SAP products.
There are multiple input options available and hence it can work for you.
Please suggest if need more info.
Also you can post more questions into SAP-MDM forum.
Hope this helps,

Classes in Master Data Management
Hello All,
Why Classes are used in Master Data management. What is the Concept of Distribution Class for distributing Master
Data. Kindly help me to understand the Concept.
Regards,
HazamCookoid
You comment regarding 'changing the nature of authorisations' is an interesting one because as you have already pointed out and is consistent with the way the product(s) work; you cannot change any more than your SAP credentials allow you to change.
All that said, quite rightly; the idea of being able to perform mass changes on ANYTHING in your SAP system of record should not be taken lightly and due diligence should be applied in determining who should have such tools and under what circumstances they should be used. Design and testing in QA or pre-production environments is an absolute must and this discipline should be applied with the same level of enthusiasm and commitment as you would any objects that you develop for productive use even if they are LSMW or regular BDC's.
The product supports a controlled release approach if implemented in a particular way, using centralised license management and workflow controls around the scripts and data templates and workbooks. Scripts can be restricted to particular SAP instances, particular volumes of data, particular transactions, particular times of day/week/month for execution.
Additionally you have two types of licenses, author/developer licenses and runner-only licenses. This avoids you landing up in a situation where inexperienced users can create their own automation objects, in such circumstances these users would typically only be given a runner license.
Some customers don't choose to use this governance and compliance approach though and choose to buy only the authoring tools, accordingly they essentially leave the door open to the creation of potentially harmful objects.
Again exhaustive testing is always recommended. WIth over 1,000 customers globally there are plenty of ASUG member references and you should actually be able to get referrals to existing customers who can tell you how they have introduced and manage controls around the use of the products. -

KK,
Thats not true.
You neednot delete master data to add attributes to a characteristic.
Additionally, you cannot delete (there are methods to delete which are not suggested) master data in normal way, if there is transactional data for that characteristic.
Luis,
You should be able to add attribute to a characteristic without deleting master data, but make sure you load data for the same for values to reflect. -
Dokumention about Master data Change

i could not finde any documentation about Master data Change.
Is the anybody who can tell me the link or send an documentation ( [email protected] )
Thanks for your help "!
By ChrisHi Christian,
You can check all the changes made on a particular date in CDHDR table and also in BDCP/BDCPS tables wherein you can search the changes made even at a particular time.
These table might be useful wherever the data is going out in the form of Idocs since these tables are pertaining to change pointer and change header.
Hope this info has been useful.
