Little crack in my macbook... what to do

Hi,
well since a little while i have this crack in my macbook, where my wrist rests on the computer to type. It's on the frontside, and now i broke, so i can see a little bit of dark (the inside of my macbook). this means there is a hole in it, so dust can get in, and i'm afraid it will get worse.
What should i do? Should i contact a retailer and ask him to let it be fixed? Is that covered by the warranty (i have only one year warrenty, but only bought the macbook in august 2007).
Thank you very much,
Jeroen Holvoet

Hi Jeroen
Welcome to Apple discussions.
This is a common problem and will be fixed under warranty. Take your MacBook to an authorised repairer and in a few days it will be as good as new.
It's not too late to extend the warranty to three years and I think this is something you should consider seriously. Personally I would not buy a laptop without buying the extended warranty.

When it gets bad enough, you will need to replace the screen.
Your warranty covers defects in material and workmanship.
That sounds like accidental damage -- glass does not tend to crack spontaneously.
Check your homeowners insurance to see if there might be coverage.

  • Little cracks around the border of my macbook?

I've just seen that my new mac (I purchased it only two months ago) has little cracks outside, over the "pictures" of the firewire, usb, headphones,.. and over two screws and a corner. They are like little dark lines in that part of the case. Can anyone tell me why had appeared them?
I treat really well this little mac, and I'm so worried about it because it seems like being broke.
(Sorry for my rubbish english, it's been a long time since I stopped studying it).
    Thank you!

My son's Macbook has developed a crack, front right along the edge. I am disapointed at Apple.
He brought it to the Apple store and the Genius said: "Oh it looks like the top had been attached wrong and is misaligned which probably caused the cracks. But sorry, it is not covered under warranty."
I guess I have to call Apple and complain. How can you admit it was a manufacturer defect but say it is not covered under the warranty.

  • HT203254 crack in the MacBook Pro display

Would a crack in the MacBook Pro display cause a similar "fade-to-white" symptom as a bad graphics processor?

A cracked screen (LCD) or the glass that covers the LCD? I'm a little confused what is cracked? Is your LCD operating with the crack?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Spilled a little water on my MacBook Pro

    Hello,
Yesterday I spilled a little water on my macbook (Yeah, I'm stupid), but it didn't stop working, and I wanted to ask if is there anything more that I can do to guarantee that nothing will happen to it.
    Here's the story:
I spilled about a teaspoon of water on my Retina MacBook Pro in its top right: on the metal, the keys near (and including) the power button, the back ventilation holes and the right sound output. The macbook didn't stop working, it actually stayed normal, but I immediately turned it off (and accidentally turned it on right after turning it off, but it was normal and I then clicked the "power off" button on the screen instead of pressing the power key again because I was afraid some water could enter inside it). I removed the water quickly (probably none or very little water entered the little sound holes), put it upside down and tilted it to try to take the water off (mainly from the ventilation holes).
After letting it stay for some time upside down, I returned it to normal position and removed the keycaps of the buttons where the water spilled, but the water didn't seem to have entered, because all of them were dry below the keycap (I didn't remove the power keycap to see though, because I didn't want to turn the macbook on). Then, I used a vaccum cleaner to try to remove the water from the ventilation holes (and it removed a little water) and the little sound holes. After that I put the side of the macbook that I spilled the water on inside a bowl of rice. It has been one day and I didn't turn it on.
I am thinking of letting it stay about one or two more days there inside the rice before trying to turn it on again. It seems that no harm was done, because before turning it off it was completely normal (I turned it off) and no water seemed to enter though the keycaps, and I am letting it stay turned off just to guarantee that it will be ok.
Is there anything more that I can do? Do I need to go to iPlace (the only place in my city that offers technical support - There aren't any genius bar's in my city) and ask them to do anything?
Thanks for all the help I can get. I just bought this MacBook and it would really be a problem if it stopped working or if it dies in two months. Is this corrosion thing really a problem?

    Yeah, you are right.
I turned my MacBook on and it is perfecly OK, the speakers are fine, the keys that I spilled water on are normal and everything is working fine. Maybe I am just a very lucky guy and no water contaminated the internals of my macbook
And what you said is totally true. I am from Brazil, and I don't trust the repair facilities here. Because of that sending it to a repair facility is my last resort. I'm afraid that they'll say that the macbook has some problems when it is completely ok or that they'll damage it and charge me for fixing it. Things like this happen here, unfortunately.
If there is nothing I can do to to stop any corrosion without replacing the components there is no motive to send it to the repair facility.
Thanks for all the help guys.

  • I cracked my IPad 3 that I got in April 2012, and I cracked it bad. What can I do? Please help'

I cracked my IPad 3 64 GB in the top left corner with a line across the top half of the screen back in April 2012, a few days after I got it. But yesterday, my dog stepped on it and completely shattered the top white part of the IPad. The glass has actually chipped off, and now there is a big hole next to the camera. The IPad still works perfectly fine, in fact I'm on it right now, but the only thing is that the camera is a little fuzzy. I'm not sure what to do. I bought the IPad through apple.com in April 2012 and its been engraved with my name on it. I cracked it for the first time a few days after I got it, don't judge, and now it's a really really really bad crack. I googled what to do if you have a hole in your IPad, and didn't find anything, so hopefully someone can help me! I really don't want have to pay another $700 to replace the IPad, and my school uses them so my IPad is super important. I don't remember if I have any insurance on the IPad, but is there like an automatic warranty if you bought it within the last year, and it's your first offense? Thanks so much!!!!!!

    Hi Agutta,
If you bought AppleCare for your iPad, then it has coverage for 2 incidents of accidental damage - $49 to repair. If you did not purchase AppleCare, you can take it into the nearest Apple Store to find out what the repair cost would be, or call Apple Support.

  • Little crack on antena of celluar data cover

    Hello,
I am apologizing for my english.
I have problem with my 2 months old iPad with celluar data (3rd generation). I have little crack down in the middle on antena cover of celluar data.
I bought this iPad by Apple Premium Reseller. Can I claim this problem there sucessfully?
    Thanks for your view.

    The warranty excludes:
    (b) to cosmetic damage, including but not limited to scratches, dents and broken plastic on ports;
Is it causing problems or is it cosmetic?
You can try to claim it. What do you have to lose

    Hi jazznola9,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
There are several steps you can take when troubleshooting Wi-Fi connectivity on an iPhone and it sounds like you have already done a few of them already. In your situation I would recommend reading over and working through the steps listed in the attached article.

...which is a real shame. I 'married' Kindle very early on, so that's my format of choice. I like being able to read on my e-reader or computer. I find it very odd that Apple hasn't come up with a Mac reader for its eBook format.

When I back to Jordan I sent it to the authorized support center “ Multivision” in Amman and asked them to help in cleaning the keyboard as it still sticky and I explained to them that the issue and I clarified that all are working fine.
For a two days they didn’t back to me and they answered that they are still checking it, and then after they just called me saying that my macbook is damaged and not working and its better for me to buy a new one!!!
They say that the liquid damaged the main board! I explained to them that this can’t be as it was working fine when I delivered it to them and I didn’t ask them to open it I told them to help in cleaning the keyboard!
I am complaining about this support behavior and they were not cooperative nether polite in communicating.
I am not convinced that the liquid damaged my macbook and I think that the staff at “Multivision” are not qualified and did something wrong to damage my macbook!
I need you help to investigate this issue and have a feedback.

Get the new keyboard at eBay and replace by yourself may be cheaper way, though you're required higher skill and well know about MacBook Air.
