Little Help with my program..

Ok... I am not completely finished with the program but I need to figure out something before I move on. This program is reading in information from a file. The thing I am having a problem with is how I can get it to add the GPA for each group of people, instead of adding the GPA for everyone in the file!! This program is basically reading in, the "groups living group", the name of each student, and their GPA. If you run my program, you will see a printout of "GPA sum in group" and GPA sum overall, I figured out how to get the sum overall for all the groups, but I cant figure out how to get the sum for each individual group! I hope this makes sense!!! If you need more clarification just ask!!! Thanks in advance! Also, I have compiled the program already and it runs just fine..!

    Okay, So I have this assignment right, and I'm supposed to read a file full of numbers into an array and then print out the 5 most frequently appearing numbers in the file.The file is arranged so that for each line in the file there are 5 different numbers separated by semicolons. So I've been working on the code and I cant for the life of me figure out how to get the array to work properly, ill post the code I have so far, the one line of code that is causing me problems is in line 21 of the program and it is stuff[i][j] = data.nextInt(); For some reason eclipse freaks out about it here is the rest of the program........     You're not reading in int's.... your reading text seperated by semicolons, so why not read the line in and then use String.split(";") on it? That will give you an array of strings indexed from 0 to 4 (if there are 5) and you can then convert them to int's and do what ever you need to do with them.

    I have an assignment for class where we have to write a recursive program using a method that calculates Hermite Polynimials.
    the math-like definition looks like this:
    Hn(x)=
    n<=0 : 1
    n==1: 2x
    n>=2 : 2xH(n-1)(x)-2(n-1)H(n-2)x
    (but the H(2-1) and H(n-2) are subscripts...)
    well, the program is supposed to accept arguments for n and x from the command line.
    but I'm having problems..

    both errors say the same thing, but the first one, the pointer points to the first Herm() call, and in the second error, it points to the second Herm() call in the equation. I know what it means, but I don't know how to fix it.

  • Help with Recurrsion program

    I seem to be having a little problem with my program. In my main program, depending on which method comes first, the other methods wont work for example the way my main program is not, with occurance method before removeLetter method, the occurance method works fine, but my removeLetter meth won't remove the letter. But if i switch the two and have removeLetter first then it will remove the letter, but my occurance method will come back say the letter is not in the word even when it is...can someone help me?     +Need a little Help with my new xfi titanium< A few questions here.
    st question? Im using opt out port on the xfi ti. card and using digital li've on a windows 7 64 bit system,? I would like to know why when i use 5. or 7. and i check to make sure each speakear is working the rear speakers wont sound off but the sr and sl will in replace of the rear speakers. I did a test tone on my sony amp and the speaker are wired correctly becasue the rear speakers and the surrond? left and right sound off when they suppose too. Also when i try to click on? the sl and sr in the sound blaster control panel they dont work but if i click on the rear speakers in the control panel the sl and sr sound off. Do anyone know how i can fix this? So i would like to know why my sl and sr act like rears when they are not?
    2nd question? How do i control the volume from my keyboard or from windows period when using opt out i was able to do so with my on board? sound max audio using spidf? Now i can only control the audio using the sony receiver.

  • Need a little help with syncing my iPod.

    I got a new macbook pro for cristmas and a few cds. After i tried to sync my ipod to itunes i put a symbol next to each song that i got from other cds saying that they were downloading but they werent. Also the cds i downloaded to my ipod for the first time didnt appear at all. Need help.

    This is my first post...I hope to find some answers to my program I am writing! A couple things first - I am 17, and have designed a comp. science class for myself to take while a senior in high school, since there was not one offered.     I am hoping to add a part to this program that basically tells the program if the dice show doubles, pop up a little GUI window that says "You are a Winner! You Got Doubles!"
    I was thinking as I finished chapter 7 in my text book, that either an 'if/else' or 'switch' statement might be the right place to start.

    You can't really believe that his brother did this
    for him...I did miss that copyright line at the beginning when
    I first looked it over, but you know, if it had been
    his brother, I'd be kinda impressed. This wasn't a
    25 line program. It actually would have required
    SOME thought. I doubt my brother woulda done that
    for me (notwithstanding the fact that I wouldn't need
    help for that program, and my brother isn't a
    programmer).I originally missed the comments at the top but when I saw the complexity of what was written then I knew that it was too advanced for a beginner and I relooked through the code and saw the comments.

    Assignment 2: Write a program that rolls two dice 1000 times, counting the number of box cars (two sixes) that occur, in object-oriented way. (In other words, do not make all your code in one main() method. Use classes and objects.) Use a overloaded constructors.
    I have to use two classes for it. One of is the Dice(Below), and the other would be the client

    I'm getting an error about the symbol not being resolved, and it's pointing at "Die die1 = new Die();". Can someone please help me. Thank you.

    I've gotten pretty far with this program thanks to all your help but I've got another question.
    My program so far has been able to display the result of rolling 2 six sided dice 1000 times. I've used Boxcars.java as my Client and Die.java as my overloaded constructor. Now I want to display the number of Boxcars(Double six)by rolling a six-sided die and a 20 sided die together.
    My question is would I code that in Boxcars.java or Die.java.

  • Need a little help with RAF logic

    So Im making a program to give different users, different rights. This is the method that appends them to file and Map
         * Writes the players rights to the appendages

        }1. The RAF goes to the predetermined index in the file, pointer, which is the line the users name starts on. Entries are stored in the file as "name::RIGHTS"
    2.It writes out the players name, and rights
    3. It checks to see if it accidentally wrote over the \n
    My problem now, is that some rights are longer than others. For example, if there was already an entry, "name::MODERATOR" and you overwrite it, with "name::OWNER" then it would turn into "name::OWNERATOR" because the rest of the line wasn't overwritten.
    I need some help with logic to determine how to overwrote the entire line, because sometimes you could go from a short one, to a long one, and need to append a new \n character, and sometimes you could go the other way around from long to short and end up with two words fused, I cant figure out how to determine whats a word that got partially overwritten and whats a new line totally.

    As pointed out you need to have fixed size records, or at least a maximum size.
    You also have another problem nobody commented on yet (I don't think) with the getBytes() calls. At that point in your code you will mangle most unicode Strings.
    All things being equal here I think your best solution is to use an embedded database like JavaDB with JDBC. I think you will find an XML solution to slow for your purposes.
    If you decide to continue the RAF route though here is an example. I know this is not exactly what you are doing but you can extrapolate from this...

    }And then of course you'd have to add storing the "rights". It gets complicated in a hurry. I do really recommend the JDBC route.

In my program I've used a while loop and the user gets an infinite number of guesses, I know I'm supposed to use a for loop, but can't seem to get it to work properly. Also, when the user guesses the number, the program then has to print out how many guesses it took, and I have no idea how to get it to do this AT ALL!!! I'd really appreciate some help with this, thanks v. much!!!!
