Little plastic thing, what is it for?

What is the small white plastic piece inside the packaging for?
I can see that the Nano fits inside it along with the USB cord and it looks like it's supposed to attach to something but there is no explanation of it in the manual

it's for if you have a dock (eg sound dock for bose), you fit that plastic thing where the ipod goes and it will sit and and snugly.
Obviously an classic and nano are different size so won't fit the same docking if they were all one size so they can be changed and apple always provide you with an adaptor so to speak.

What is the little plastic piece that comes with my iPod?? It looks like some kind of dock, but it is oddly shaped. There is nothing about it in the user guide. What is it?

    Hi trancelot,
That white plastic piece that comes with your iPod is the adaptor for the iPod Universal Dock.

  • What is that plastic thing?

yes, I'm an idiot, but can someone please explain to me what the white plastic thing that comes with the nano and looks like a stand for the nano is? and if it is a stand, I can't figure out how to work it. any help is appreciated.
    thanks

Its an adaptor for using the nano with the Universal Docking Station
The Universal Dock is the ultimate iPod docking solution. Any model of iPod with a dock connector can fit perfectly into a single Universal Dock through the use of interchangeable inserts called Dock Adapters. You simply insert the Dock Adapter that fits your particular iPod model, then plug in your iPod. When you want to connect a different-size iPod, simply pop out the Dock Adapter and insert a new one.

  • Need to find a little plastic part for G60-530US

I need to replace the little plastic connecter (white piece of plastic) that holds the ribbon to the HP G60-530US Keyboard.  It broke when attempting to replace the keyboard.  Please help me find a part number and where to buy it.

It has no part number and there is no standard market to buy it. It is technically part of the motherboard. You are going to have to find a junk unit and harvest the part from the motherboard or maybe find a parts house that will find one for you.

I want to download apps, but whenever I click download, it does the spinning in a circle thing but never asks for my password and never downloads, I want to be able to download apps again! How do I fix this?

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

I did that link you refer to me (manually and using camera). But still nothing happens, always prompted "not properly activated" or "invalid code". And i did follow the instructions how to send an issue/problems/case regarding itunes card code query.
    My apology dude.
I did change country/region, itunes store country, apple id, but still prompting FAILURE "The Gift Certificate or Prepaid Card you entered has not been properly activated." Does it mean it needs to activate by Apple Inc. before i can use it? If that's the case, everytime i buy an itunes card, i need to go Apple Support? Is that so?
Please help me dude regarding this matter, i know you're well knowledgeable about apple systems.
    Thanks in advance.

  • What to look for

    Hi,
I understand that this board is a casualty unit for machines BUT having heard many reports of various faults on the mini from a wide variety of sources and having just ordered one recently(at a nice price) I wondered if there is any thing to look out for in particular.
    Kind regards,becca

There is always a sense, reading the discussions here, that each and every product is littered with failures and faults regardless of what that product is, and I think if many people read these threads before they made their purchasing decisions, they'd decide not to buy anything at all!
But the truth is that for the most part, these discussions are relatively quiet given the nature of the casualty unit, and if you consider the volume of sales of these systems, the fact that the vast majority of owners DON'T post here is actually a sign of a healthy product and happy owners rather than the content here being a sign of inherent problems or issues.
That isn't to say there are no faulty minis and nothing to watch for, because there are always going to be a proportion of units with faults reaching the market and there's always the risk of getting one, but by and large the risk is pretty low.
Common issues to watch out for are, as said, RAM, where the more you have the better the system runs. It's true of just about every computer, regardless of MacOS or Windows and whichever processor, but it's somewhat more true of Mac minis (and laptops in general too) because MacOS, like Windows, requires temporary storage on the hard drive, and a constantly active virtual memory store. Given that the drives in Mac minis are relatively slow, 'paging' activities creates a performance bottleneck which holds down the performance of the system as a whole. The more RAM you have (1Gb limit on G4 models, 2Gb limit on Intel units) the lower the paging overhead and thus the less the slow drive impacts on the system. On Intel Macs you also have to content with the memory demands of Rosetta, the on-the-fly PPC translator that allows you to run old. legacy, applications. 512Mb RAM is OK for fully native application use, though it still limits the performance of the system for the same reason as above, but where old software that is not Intel native is being used, it causes very poor performance indeed, and in some cases can render the system a little unstable.
There are also potential issues with displays. The need to use an adaptor with VGA screens can create a 'stack' of connectors on the back that if not secure can leave odd color casts or image distortion. Keep the connectors tight and there's usually no problem. Earlier minis did have issues with some displays, with VGA being washed out or dull and DVI suffering colored static, and the Intel minis are similar, but rather less noticeably so.
The issue that would concern me the most is that on Intel minis, careless owners (and even service providers) have proven apt at disturbing fan and audio connectors when working inside the case, so if the system you are buying is a used one, test it out to make sure that everything is functional before settling down to get it into full use, and watch for odd fan behavior and for proper audio output if there is any indication the system has been opened.
Other than that, sit back and enjoy it. These are really extraordinarily powerful systems for their size, and easily outstrip the needs of many users. Most mini users (both G4 and Intel) would, I believe, tell you that they have been extremely happy with their choice of system, and there's no reason you should not be too.

  • Macbook4, 1 Plastic thing under delete key has broken, and the keycap will not clip onto the metal bar.

Can apple replace the plastic thing that makes the keycap go back up and keycap?
I'm kind of afraid it can't be fixed. Can it?
Thanks for reading, I need some help.

why would they do it for free?  I highly doubt it, and have no idea what the charge may be.  I think they only replace the whole keyboard, not individual keys, but I could be wrong.  post back with what they say.

  • Little plastic piece in box ??

I apologize if this has been asked before, I looked but didn't have any luck. I just got the 3rd gen Nano. Inside the box is a little white plastic piece that appears to have a slot wide enough for the charger but I have no idea what this is for or how to use it. I appreciate any help!

That's the adapter for the Universal Dock. There's a different sized one for each type of iPod, you place it in the well of a Universal Dock and then your iPod fits in. If you have different models of iPod you can use the same dock with either one by fitting the appropriate adapter: Apple Universal Dock

  • Lot of little networking things

I have a Graphite iMac and a Graphite iBook. I love 'em both, but I can't solve a bunch of little nagging things.
I just upgraded to OS 10.3.9, and I think that's about as good as I am going to get on the laptop.
    Here are the things.
I have my iMac partitioned. One partition is all OS 9.2.2, and it's still the main one, because I can't buy a lot of software, but what I got on it is top drawer and necessary for some work. I also store my iTunes music there, most of it.
The other partition is OS X.
The laptop is one partition, both systems.
For the most part, the networking works best when I have the OS 9.2.2 partition running on the iMac. I can just click a button and tell it to run as a software Base Station for the Airport connection between the two computers.
I can hook up from the iBOOK to either partition on the iMac when the iMac is running 9.2.2 as a base station. I have a cable modem internet connection through the iMac. But I cannot remotely print to my USB printer, even though I have USB printer share turned on in 9.2.2. I try all kinds of print center stuff to see the USB printer, Rendevous, IP, USB, etc., but the printer never shows up.
When I boot up the iMac in OS X, I used to not be able to do anything.
I now have internet access and USB printing, but I can't seem to hook up to iMac to do some basic file sharing, including the iTunes music backup.
I have AppleTalk turned on, but under no circumstances will the iMac show up when I go to "Go" and pull down to Connect to server. I see three options, and they all start a "timeout" countdown. They are all afp:/ addresses, and I frankly haven't got a clue what they are.
I expect I should see the name of the iMac or the network, but I only get this.
    Any ideas?
Oh yeah, Mail doesn't want to work in either configuration on the laptop, in sending e-mails. This causes a bit of a hangup trying to get iCal to work. I can boot up Outlook Express in Classic, and it sends and receives, no problem. But Mail won't send.

<<Wow, you do have a bunch of stuff.
It is not surprising that both network fine in 9. Apple had 20 years to make communication between macs seemless.
On the 9 computer, what are the network settings?
Your mail settings need to be fixed to send mail. Open your preferences in Mail and check the connections for pop and smtp.
Have you enabled file sharing in X?>>
It's not both networking in 9. The only way I can file share from my OS X iBook is when I have the iMac running OS 9.2.2.
I don't really use OS 9 on the iBook, even though it is there.
File sharing is on on the iBook, and I have the AppleTalk control panel set for Airport.
I believe I have enabled file sharing in X, but I may be missing something. There is a checklist of about six or seven things. I have file sharing checked, printer sharing and web sharing checked.
Printer sharing just started working, web sharing is working now. But I am not doing something necessary, I guess, when I try to hook up for the file sharing.
The only options I get, when both are in OS X, is a string of characters like a URL, that starts with afp. There are three, none of them hook up to the computer. Two do a 119 second countdown to timeout. The other bombs right away.
