Little Snitch catches SyndicationAgent.app

HI all,
Simple question, maybe. I recently updated (yesterday) from 10.3.9 to 10.4.3, and now to X 4.4, and I use "LIttle Snitch" to keep an eye on what applications call home. Do any of you know what SyndicationAgent .app does? It calls out about 2 times an hour and I don't like that level of contact to any place I don't know. So do any of you know what that app does? Jim

It looks like an RSS utility for Safari.

so I have the Little Snitch trial. (an app that shows your network usage and stuff) There is no way I can quite it or stop it or delete it or anything

  • Little Snitch how to leave apps call home?

I love Little Snitch but I am wondering are you able to leave certain applications called home with out constantly asking for your permission? I use Kaspersky and it has Web Anti-Virus and what's happening is Kaspersky is calling home to see if the web pages I am going to is safe every that happens Little snitch thing kicks in and ask for permission to leave it do so. I trust Kaspersky is there a way to just leave it do its own thing I'm not to be asking me for constantly asking permissions?

You need to read the Little Snitch documentation. It is very easy to tell it to always allow certain applications to communicate, I just don't remember exactly how to do it. (It's been a while since I used Little Snitch.) I would have to say, though, that if you haven't read the documentation far enough to learn how to do this, you probably shouldn't be using Little Snitch. It's a powerful tool that can cause problems if not used properly.
I also would recommend that you use something other than Kaspersky. It's just okay at detecting Mac malware, and there are far better tools that won't cost you any money. See:
    http://www.thesafemac.com/mac-anti-virus-testing-01-2013/
As to which to use, and whether you should use one at all, see my Mac Malware Guide.

  • Mid 2011 Macbook Air won't boot after installing Little Snitch 3. Grey Screen.

    Hi all
I think the answer is probably that my SSD is toast but here's the symptoms in case anyone else has experienced this.
I installed Adobe Lightroom and also got round to upgrading my Little Snitch license and finally putting it on my 11" Air (mid 2011, latest version of Lion) as I use the computer more often than my Pro. After restarting as LS requires I was met with the grey Apple logo screen with no spinning gear. I forced a shut down and started again, again the logo screen, no spinning gear. I tried booting in to safe mode and got only a grey screen, then I tried booting in to recovery mode and got the Apple Logo again. I also tried cmd + C and alt/option with an external DVD drive and Snow Leopard with no luck
Then I tried a SMC reset, after that I started up and only got the Logo again. I reset the PRAM and the main effect of that was to reset the system volume to max so now I can hear the POST chime but also since the PRAM reset I get only the grey screen and no further. I tried to boot from a USB Lion recovery but only the grey screen. I have also tried booting with cmd +S with no luck either. Internet recovery doesn't work either.
The keyboard seems to be completely unresponsive, the caps lock key doesn't light up at all and I've a feeling that it's either something as simple as a problem with the keyboard or the SSD is kaput. I think that Little Snitch is a coincidence as there's nothing like this anywhere on the web as far as I can tell with Google and there doesn't appear to be anything on these forums that quite matches, especially the part about not being able to use and alternative boot method.
Anyone out there got any ideas?
    Cheers
    John

Hi and thank you for your response.
The fans only kick in when the machine freezes.
I updated from Snow Leopard to Lion using the App Store. The install was successful and worked for about 30 mins then the unresponsive behavior started. Once I rebooted, I received the issue previously stated above (i.e., the trackpad and keyboard is unresponsive).
I've also tried booting using the Option key and choosing the Recovery Mode. Once in Recovery Mode the same crash happens  (i.e., the trackpad and keyboard is unresponsive)

  • Little Snitch Upload Problems?

**The following was posted on another forum**
    **Maybe you can help?**
I have a IMac Core 2 Duo 3.06ghz. It runs programs such as Final Cut Pro. A few months after I got it, I started having this file upload error, where whenever I upload a photo or doc to my Yahoo Mail or Youtube or any other site, it says file upload error on each site or another canned message. However, If I try and upload something on Windows Live Mail or Facebook, I have no problems. I'm assuming because this is flash. Any ideas?
Update 1: All my software is up-to-date date. I'm using Safari. Same error in Google Chrome.
I also found some unprepared disk permissions just a few mins ago
It says in 12 pages a lot of bad permissions. They all have to do with my Airport.
I don't want to repair them though because I'm using Little Snitch on some of my files for security. I'm afraid it will mess with some of these settings.
It is crucial I have these in tact.
Update 3: BTW, I just went into software update. It can't check updates because of a "network problem". I never had this error before. Any ideas?
    Update 4: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2394357&tstart=0
Will the tips in this thread disable my little snitch?
    Thanks so much!

If you have a problem with permissions, you should repair those. I don't know why you'd think it would mess up things - repairing permissions fixes them.

I don't use Little Snitch, but I would suspect that you have a setting there that is preventing your uploads as well as your communication with the Apple server. Hopefully someone using that app will chime in here on that.
So, until someone using Little Snitch can chime in, I would suggest you try turning it off for a short while; repairing your permissions, and then try to upload your videos. If it works, then you'll know the culprit and will need to adjust some settings there. If it doesn't, at least we've eliminated it as a source of the problem.

  • Apple remote desktop can click little snitch

I have set up apple remote desktop over the net and I am trying to admin the computer but when I am trying to run a program, I can not control little snitch firewall and click to let the program connect to the internet. why cant apple remote desktop click the settings in little snitch that pop up when an app wants to connect to the internet? I thought we were suppose to have total control?

I have observed the same problem with Little Snitch on the client Mac. Everything else on the client is responsive except the LS dialog box. To get around this, I have opened System Preferences -> Little Snitch and turned it off on the client. You just have to remember to turn it back on when your done.
    It's not a solution, just a workaround...

  • Mail crashing after install Little Snitch

My Mail app has started crashing every time I try to do something with it. AFAIK, the only difference in my set up from when Mail worked smoothly is that I just yesterday installed Little Snitch. Crashing began then. I have now uninstalled Little Snitch (per its UnInstaller), but I am continuing to experience Mail crashes. Any suggestions or thoughts?
    Many thanks,

When an application crashes (i.e. quits unexpectedly), the system writes information about the state of the application at the moment of the crash into a log file. That information is called a crash report and it makes troubleshooting much easier because it makes possible to properly identify the exact cause of the crash without having to follow trial-and-error procedures. In order to find and paste the relevant part of the crash report here, do the following:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the View menu, choose Show Log List -- if Hide Log List is displayed instead, skip this step.
    3. On the left pane of the Console window, expand ~/Library/Logs by either double-clicking on it or clicking on the triangle to the left. Expand CrashReporter as well.
    4. Select Mail.crash.log. The whole Mail crash log appears on the right pane of the Console window. It may contain many crash reports. We only want the latest, which is located at the bottom of the file.
    5. Look for a line that begins with "Date/Time:" as close to the bottom as possible, and another that says "Thread N Crashed:", where N is a number. Select everything from the "Date/Time:" line to the lines immediately following "Thread N Crashed:". Copy that text and paste it here. Do not post the whole crash log, and do not include anything beyond the lines immediately following "Thread N Crashed:" either, just the relevant part.
There was a "crash-fest" not too long ago. You may want to take a look at it for examples of what a crash report looks like and what to do in each case:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=466701
Don't hesitate to post the relevant part of your crash report here if you are not sure which of the cases discussed in that thread applies to you.

  • Facetime Error, Little Snitch to blame?

I had LittleSnitch for about a month and then decided that it was really annoying. I deleted the program, every single little file I can find for it, I deleted. However, I think it has blocked some connection that is causing my Facetime error because I can't figure out any other problem. I'm pretty sure I denied some connection when I had facetime on Snow Leopard and joy, no more facetime for me.
    Error I get:
"The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later."
This has been happening from Day 1 of getting Lion and I got Lion as soon as it came out. Help? Someone? Please?

The same for me. Mail has been terrible since last week - it's completely unusable. What makes it even worse is that the iCloud status page has shown green lights all this time. Out of interest, where are you guys? I'm in Berlin. The reason I ask is because most pepole I ask online say that their mail is fast, as usual, but I found another guy on here earlier and he had the same issues I have and is also in Germany. Maybe it's a coincidence, I don't know.

  • Little Snitch Problems / Trail software Problems

Hello all, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question but it's the best I could find.
I recently downloaded two trial softwares. Little Snitch, and AstoundStereo, both from the Apple site. I decided against using both of them and deleted them before the trail ran out. Problem is, I'm still receiving annoying alerts from both programs, even though no trace of them (that I can see) remains on my computer.
Little Snitch will pop up and tell me my 3 hour trial has expired (it expired a few weeks ago) and AstoundStereo is still counting down the days left in its trial, despite both these applications being uninstalled.
Anybody know how I can fix this problem?
Any help greatly appreciated thank you

    Hi
AstoundStereo - per the developer, run the uninstall program located in the AstoundStereo Expander folder, which is within the Applications folder. If you deleted that folder, download another copy of the software and open the installer. Either you'll be able to uninstall it from there, or you'll need to install the app. again so you can uninstall it.

  • Little Snitch Issue

I have posted a similar question in the installation category as I installed little snitch before reinstallation of my OS. When applications which were net dependant needed to access the internet, it seems that it couldn't. So I my best bet would be little snitch as that was te only app that messed around with the firewall settings and stuff.
It seems that after reinstallation of 10.5, little snitch malfunctioned or was corrupted and required a redownload. I had the dmg for it anyway and it is up to date i.e. version 2.2.
So I reinstalled the app and got rid of all the rules and filters. However, this did not work for me. And in addition to that, yes, I have tried uninstalling the files using the uninstaller that came with it and yes, I have manually removed all files that were related to it using the app, Easy Find and Appcleaner.
    Please advice. Thank you.

I couldn't contact the developer as I was short on time. Anyway, after finding some time, I've solved the issue by simply restarting my mac after uninstalling it. Works perfectly now. Thanks.

  • Little Snitch

Since I upgraded to Leopard I get these Little Snitch "allow or deny" windows popping up constantly, annoying as ****... So questions:
    1. Does anyone know what Little Snitch really does and if it is important and needed?
    2. How do I stop these pop-up windows with "deny or allow" or shouldn't I?
    3. How do I know what to deny and what to allow?
    4. What the **** is this kernel stuff which is the thing that wants to connect to all kinds of things?
Lot's of q's, yeah I know, any answers are appreciated!

Hi' If you allow little snitch to run it runs in the background doing a check and should not effect you at all. If however you wish to be done with it, go to applications in finder, highlight the little Snitch app and send it to Trash. You can always download it again in the future if you think you need it.
    Hope this helps Denisimo

  • IPhone + iTunes sync - syndicationagent.app problem

I'm a new iPhone user and whenever I sync my iPhone to iTunes, I always get a popup saying that the SyndicationAgent.app has been updated and needs access to my keychain again. I click on "Change All" and after a minute or so the pop up eventually clears but always returns again when I re-sync my iPhone.
I've tried uninstalling/re-installing iTunes (8.2) and Safari (4 beta) but the problem still occurs. I don;t even know what Syndication Agent.app is supposed to be doing - I gather it has something to do with RSS feeds from Safari?
Does anyone know how I can get rid of this popup whenever I sync? Or can I get rid of the Agent.app? (will this cause other problems?)
    I'm running tiger 10.4.11.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I suspect there is a file system issue on your Mac. Repair permissions with Disk Utility, and also verify your HD. If Verify finds errors, start your Mac with the OS X install disc and repair with the utility there,
