Live! 5.1 SB0100. Can decode Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) from S/PDIF-

Hi,?i have a Sound Blaster Li've! 5. model: SB000. This can decode AC3 from S/PDIF IN and out to analog outputs?. My idea is connect Xbox 360 to S/PDIF IN and decode Dolby Digital to analog outs. Thanks.

Nope. The original EMU0K chip always had resampling enabled on S/PDIF input so that if there was any clock drift at all bits could change and damage the AC3 encoding. The EMU0K2 (Audigy) chip was changed to somehow allow bypassing the core clock so the S/PDIF sample values could get into memory without alteration.

  • Decode Dolby Digital from optical inpu

    Hi,
I bought SB X-Fi Extreme Audio PCIE. I know it'sdoesn't have?any hardware supported features, but maybe there is some?software way to decode Dolby Digital send throught optical cable to SB input ?
Second question - which SB model should I buy to get this working ?

I don't think the Audigy 2 NX has decoding hardware onboard, it uses a driver based decoder therfore all decoding is done by the computer. The Extigy is different, it has and actual onboard decoder so it can be used as a stand-alone Dolby Digital decoder, not requiring a computer to operate. I'm not sure whether the NX can decode AC3 from an external source or if it is limited to decoding signals originating from the computer (i.e DVD or AC3 file).

  • Searching for sound card, which decodes Dolby Digital from S/PDIF-IN

As I wrote in the topic headline, I'm currently searching for a sound card, which decodes Dolby Digital from the S/PDIF input.
I.e. a DolbyDigital signal comes from an external device (here Set-Top-Box/Media-Recei'ver) and the sound card should send the signal to my analogue speakers.
Currently I have a Creative X-Fi ExtremeMusic, this card does not support this.
And yes, I read the thread "Digital Connection...".
    Thanks for any replies!

HRe: Searching for sound card, which decodes Dolby Digital from S/PDIF-INE I'm still doing some research on this topic, although I'm already searching for 2 years now with no real solution. Several people say, that I can do that, what I described in the first posting, by using an I/O console from Creative. But Creative (support) says, it is impossible at all, they don't have any products, which can do this.
Can anyone tell me, whether it's possible or not? Important fact: I use Windows XP, not Vista. And I don't want to use modded drivers. I want to use the latest official ones.
The new soundcard "Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Champion Series" has an I/O dri've. If I have this, can I decode DolbyDigital from S/PDIF-IN, if I plug the optical cable into the soundcard? Because this console seems to have no optical input.

  • ¿Does Audigy 2 NX decode Dolby Digital 5.

    Hi,
I've purchased an Audigy 2 NX to connect my xbox 360 via optical sound wire and get Dolby Digital 5..
The problem starts here, i've connected the console to optical In (in the sound card) and i've connected the 5. via standart jacks (the 3 typical jacks), if i set Dolby Digital 5. mode on the xbox 360 i don't get any sound, but if i set it to Stereo Digital it sounds but only in 2. mode (front speakers).
The dolby digital led in the sound card never works, it's always off, it suposes to be on when it detects a Dolby Digital Input (like the 360 one's) but it always remains off.
How can i decode Dolby Digital 5. via optical in? In the sound card spec's says that this card is able to Decode DD 5. and 7., but it seems to be a lie!.

this soundcard does not decode from external source...so it won't work this way.

  • Decoding Dolby Digital via Optical

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to decode the digital signal from my satellite receiver via the optical in port on my Audigy Platinum? I hooked it up and all I got was basic surround, and yes, I was watching a movie on the receiver that was being broadcast in dolby digital.
    Thanks for the info...

What do you mean "Basic Surround"?
As far as I know, it is possible with the Platinium dri'ves. Provided your receiver is sending RAW Un-decoded Dolby Digital signal to the dri've.
If it is already decoded, the signal being sent through the optical cable will only be received as Stereo..if I'm not mistaken.
Someone else with hands-on experience will have to give you a better confirmation, as I dont have a Platinium dri've before. But I know its possible.

  • Encoding Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) sound in MP4 files using AC3 pass-through

Looking for an application that will encode Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) sound in an .mp4 container using AC3 pass-through for playing videos with surround sound on ATV.
Handbrake is out of the question because I run Tiger. The Tiger version cannot do AC3 pass-through.
Visual Hub is no longer available.
    Any other options?

You may need Apple's MPEG2 QT plugin as well for MPEGStreamclip.
Also, consider if running windows in parallels/Boot Camp etc that there's a windows version, and possibly a linux version.
VisualHub code was released open source - Google FilRedux and PunyVid (iSquint derivative). Not tried either though.

  • SB Audigy 2 ZS - Conect to Teac Power Max 1500 with external decoder Dolby Digital Decod

I can't have de digital sound of my soundcard, beacause my speaker systems don?t have that type of cable (for digital sound, my system have a coaxial and optical.
How can ? conect my speakers (wich have an external decoder) to the digital out of de SB Audigy 2zs? I have buy de Creative Digital I/O Module, that have coaxil and optical output, but this not work in Audigy 2 zs....(:
Have I buy another speakers? this speaker?s are great, and I have my dvd conected to him.

There's a digital output on the card itself. 'tis the farthest one from the motherboard I beli've.
What you erally need is a cable like t his one:
    http://www.needledoctor.com/Sony-RK-...=2&category=92
Plug the mini-plug end into the soundcard and one of the outputs ( the left channel I believe ) will have the digital output.
You will only get surround sound via the decoder if when playing back pre-encoded DD/DTS content like DVDs. Games and stuff will playback in stereo when connected digitally as SPDIF only supports compressed multi-channel bitstreams or uncompressed 2 channel audio. No Creative card at present offers real time DD/DTS encoding ( there're other cards which do which support Dolby Digital Li've! or DTS Connect. ) Creative have a DTS encoder called the DTS-60 which can take analogue signals from the soundcard ( stereo mini-plug x 3 ) and encode it to DTS for output via a coaxial or optical SPDIF in real time. I've never used the DTS-60 and can't comment on how good it is. Also note that the Audigy 2 ZS has weak bass redirection if using the DTS-60 and the 60 lacks bass redirection of its own so you could very well end up with a 'bass-less' signal if you're connecting to small speakers, unless your decoder has volume controls for the subwoofer.Message Edited by nvidiot on 09-27-2006 0:32 PM

  • Decoding Dolby Digital not available in Platinum

It's as simple as it gets, clean windows SP2 instalation with security updates.
There's no Decoder Tab in audio console and i don't get any sound in spdif on powerDVD when there's the dolby digital bitstream out logo. Anything that isn't dolby digital does play sound.
This is PLATINUM FCS (as in EXPENSIVE CARD THAT SHOULD HAVE BUILTIN DECODER like the original platinum), i got the FCS version after my original regular platinum broke down after 3 months.. and it had built-in decoding.. you're not going to tell me that this MORE expensi've (not much tho) card doesn't have. :|
    Anyway, sorry about the ca
    ps.
.. just that x-fi cards for the last months has giving me headaches despite the great features and sound quality.Message Edited by darthdan on 08-6-200703:3 PM

Well, checked the features in the product page... it seems it doesn't.. So i'll give this post an oportunity to let it all out.
How the heck does my bulk audigy 4 that costs about 7 to 8 times less has that feature and also how the previous platinum had the feature and this one doesn't?
Ok, so creative added the x-ram, like many games take advantage of that and like everyone has speakers to take advantage of that. I guess it's resources and marketing all the way.
Bottom line, considering the sound quality of the cards and features i wouldn't call them a rip off but some stuff really messes with regular clients.
I guess creative not having a serious competitor in the regular consumer market make's they more relaxed a bit. (But i may be wrong since im not workin for creative or inside of it to see how they work. I admit that possibility.)
Anyway, hope im not a bother and have a nice day.

  • Dolby Digital or AC-3 from MP4 files

I have MP4 files which I have made that have one stereo soundtrack and one Dolby Digital soundtrack. Is there any kind of plugin so that the latter can be played by Quicktime?
I have tried VLC as an alternate player. The AC-3 soundtrack does not lock this app up (as it does with Quicktime), but VLC will not play it in surround, either.
I've tried this with my iMacG5, my iBook G4, and my new Mac Mini. I'm using an M-Audio Transit with the Mini. It works fine for AC-3 from DVD Player but not with MP4 files with pass thru AC-3.
Does anyone have a suggestion for any other "super tight" video encoding that will preserve multi-channel sound? (My understanding is that H.264 only supports 2 channel sound.)
    Thanks.

In the Properties for: Built-in Output under "Audio Output" on the right I have:
    Source: Digital Out
    Format: 48000.0 Hz 2ch-24bit
Is that OK or should I change it to something else?

  • Please will someone provide me a link so I can download dolby digital codec...

I cannot find such a codec anywhere. Please will someone prodide me with a link so I can set my system up in 5.1 surround.
    Thankyou.
    Regards,
    Richard Steed

No digital codec. Part of the driver installation package for your aduio driver. For example if you have an on-board Realtek HD Audio Codec you can get the latest drivers from...
    Realtek Audio - All
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/
Your PC audio driver contains some or all digital formats to connect to digital audio appliances. Some formats might not be supported and if so, then you are at the mercy of the digital hardware vendor and need to find hardware for both the PC audio and external hardware .. that speak the same digital language (Dolby DTS, Dolby Surround, etc...).

Please post rather than send me a Message. It's good for the community and I might not be able to get back quickly. - Thank you.

  • Compressor - Dolby Digital 5.1 AC3 encoding problem

I'm completely stuck - I'm creating AC3 files in compressor using the "add surround sound feature" from 6 DISCREET mono AIFF files. I know they are discreet because I've listened to them in STP.
When I create the AC3 files, however, they playback (on a surround sound system that supports 5.1) in all speakers - I'm getting bleed from each track on all speakers - for example, I can hear spoken dialog in the rear speakers, though the discreet AIFF files for both rear speakers do not this spoken dialog in them.
I'm at a loss and under pressure to create true, 5.1 AC3 files today. I have no idea what I could be doing wrong. Any ideas? Does it matter that my Mac Pro sound card does not support 5.1 Playback (again, I'm listening to the files on a surround sound system, not on this computer)
Thanks for any help you may have!

  • Dolby Digital dropouts on Apple TV

I have the latest model ATV connected via HDMI to an Arcam receiver which can decode Dolby Digital via that cable. The ATV is connected to my network via ethernet but I get regular dropouts of DD sound – the sound disappears for a second or two and the amp shows a message '3/2.1 - EX off'.
This happens on Streaming movies over Netflix or playing iTunes content from my mac.
The file is not at fault as replaying it will often have the sound dropping out at different points in the movie and earlier dropouts will usually play normally. Itunes was downloading in the background but would this affect replaying of a movie file or the straeming of a netflix movie?

Probably not the case but do check all you speaker cables are secured properly - I once had random dropouts and one of the the centre speaker cables had come partially loose and a few strands were intermittently shorting with the counterpart causing the amp to shut down audio momentarily.
Personally I'd try a different HDMI input or cable if the Arcam has a separate input.

  • Yeah Handbreak upgrade now does Dolby Digital 5.1!!!

    http://handbrake.fr/
Handbreak can now create MPEG4 files from DVDs in the exact format like the one purchased from iTunes.. so can be played on AppleTV, iPod, iPhone etc.
MPEG4 with H.264 video, Audio Tracks can choose Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) + Dolby ProLogic II, Audio Track 2 - whatever you want.
tried it last night work flawlessly and is about twice as fast encoding as before (not a carefull test but it was WAY faster)
    and it's free!!

Can anyone please help me on this, if you guys can check is the 2-track option available while watching movies on iPad 2... or is it just me who is unable to find it despite these movies being encoded in DD 5.1

  • Dolby Digital Live & Ga

Can?the new Sound Blaster X-fi Titanium encode a Dolby Digital Li've digital output from the sound stream output from games like UT3 or Quake Wars?that support multi channel and/or EAX effects? If so would the digital output be two channel or multi channel. With my current X-fi the only way to get multi channel output?from games is through the analog outputs. The current x-fi only supports two channel output on my games when I use the digitail output from the card. So again will the Dolby Digital Li've encoding on the new Sound Blaster X-fi Titanium encode into a multi-channel digitial output stream the multi-channel audio stream produced by games like UT3 or Quake Wars?

Of course. That is precisely what Dolby Digital Li've is all about, which is real time encoding of multichannel audio and playback of the encoded audio via S/PDIF out of your sound card. You will need an external digital decoder to decode Dolby Digital Li've into multichannel audio.
