Live! 5.1 vs. Audigy 2 ZS Plati

If anyone could explain to me what i'm doing wrong or missing, I would appreciate it. I used to have a Li've! 5. card and i know have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and have had some serious challenges getting it set up. With my old Li've! card i was able to get sound through all fi've channels and my sub for music and games. I realize it was true digital surround. With my new card I can only get it in the front two channels. I've read the forums on this issue but still haven't been able to get the Audigy to work like the Li've! card did. The more I read about it the more confused I get. I'm using the coaxial digital out which goes to the coaxial digital in on a Marantz SR4600 A/V receiver.
First, I'm wondering?why it worked on the Li've! card and is not working on the Audigy card? Second, is it possible to get it to work on the Audigy card?Is there a difference between the two cards and if so, what is the difference? Can I not use the CMSS on the card to get music and games to play on all fi've channels and the sub? Shouldn't the A/V receiver use Dolby Pro Logic II to make it happen. The only signal I get from the card is a two channel PCM. Thanks,

Anyone out there that can answer this post?Thx,

  • Computer compatible with sounblaster audigy 2 ZS Plat

I currently have the 6bit version of soundblaster li've on a dell dimension 2400 PC and was curious if i would be able to install soundblaster audigy 2 ZS Plat Pro instead. Is my computer compatible with this because im having difficulty finding anything out from Dell

    ACUBaller83,
If your system fits to these specifications then it should work, just make sure to completely uninstall the Li've! before installing this (and put the Audigy 2 ZS into a different PCI slot).

  • Audigy 2 ZS Plat/WinXP x64/Gigabyte 965P-DS3/pop, click, hiss during HDD activity **FIXE

Alright, I've been searching the posts on this board for the past hour with no luck in solving my problem.
    Here are my system specs:
    Core 2 Duo E4300
    4GB G.Skill DDR2-800
    eVGA 8800GTX
    Audigy 2 ZS Plat
    2x320GB SATA RAID 0
    Windows XP x64 SP2
Whenever there is sound playing during HDD activity the sound clicks, hisses, and pops severely, definitely to the point of being unusable. This happens with both the rear jack and the front panel. The RAID array is on the JMicron controller on the board, not the Intel ICH8 south bridge. This problem does not seem to exist under Windows Vista x64, but that is so unstable that I really need XP to work correctly. I also have the Surround Mixer, Speaker Setup, and EAX Console apps installed, if that means anything.
    Things I have tried:
    Driver reinstallation
    <
"Clean boot" method described in the FAQ<
    Things I have not tried:
Putting the card in another PCI slot
    <
Changing the IRQ of the card
    <
    Changing the PCI latency<
I don't know a whole lot about the last two (the IRQ and the latency) so if someone could help me out there I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for checking out my problem and for any help you may provide.
EDIT: I have fixed the issue! The problem was I was using an older driver for the JMicron controller when I slipstreamed it into my XP x64 install disc. I had used the newest one when I installed Vista. I'll keep this post here to help out anyone else who has this issue!
    Get the driver!

  • Audigy 2 ZS plat live drive prob

Hey everyone, I've had this problem for several months now (since I first got this card and li'vedri've, actually). The deal is that when I plug my headphones + mic into the li'vedri've in front and set the Creative Surround Mixer settings to Line 2/Mic 2, it works fine for awhile. Everyone can hear me in Ventrilo, Teamspeak, on CS, or whatever... but after awhile the settings get changed in the Creative program. I'll have to alt-tab out and see that instead of it being set on Line 2/Mic 2, its changed to the Microphone input...Has anyone experienced this problem? I gave up on it with my old headphones, cause the mic went out. Now I have some Sennheiser PC-50s and I want to be able to talk in my games again! Please help me figure out what could be causing the software to change inputs on me! You would think there would be an option to "save" your settings, but I don't see one, so I'm looking for some advice on here! Thanks in advance!-Nick-<!-- / message -->

Well, I just searched the forums here and found that this is a common problem in Counter-Strike, not the Creative software. I will try the solutions the other users have tried, and hope it works. If anyone still has a helpful comment, please post!

  • Will the live drive from an Audigy work with the Live MP3+ 5.1

i have a li've MP3+ 5., and borrowed a friends audigy plat, but seeing as he will want the card back soon, i was wondering if i could install my MP3+, and connect his li've dri've to it, so when he wants the card back, i just have to remove the li've dri've, will this work ?

i've looked at the card, and it does have the same connection on it for the ide-type ribbon cable as the audigy does.. even has the 2 missing pins on it to make the connector split in 2 ...

  • Crackling with XBOX games using the Audigy 2 ZS Plat. Pro

Hey, currently I have my XBOX wired into the internal front dri've that comes with the Audigy2 ZS Plat Pro. That is going in to the optical in, through the XBOX's high definition pack.
Now, when playing games, (Halo 2, Ghost Recon 2), I notice a LOT of crackling when there are explosions or bass heavy events on screen. It doesn't even seem to be just restricted to bass either, as when sometimes there is loud in-game talking coming through, that crackles as well. It is seems like when there is a lot of sound that is coming through, that triggers it mostly.
Anyways... I can't see how this would be a hardware conflict, since im just using the sound card to pass the XBOX's sound through to my Logitech Z-5300's. I have played with every setting on the Audio HQ and the Creative menu's (Volume control, bass redirection, THX settings, etc..)
Also worth mentioning is that games working from my PC are fine, as well as music. So it is definately isolated to the I/O Audigy connector. Also, there is no crackling when played on a regular home stereo receiver, so it is not a defect in the cable or anything.
Does anybody have any suggestions at all? I have been going nuts trying to figure this out!! I have downloaed and installed the lastest drivers, but perhaps im installing them in the wrong order? Who knows... please, someone help me out!! Hopefully the Creative staff have heard of this and can suggest something for me.
Thank you so much for your time, and I hope I can get this working!
EDIT: Oh and also, please dont reference me to that help page on the Creative support page. I have been looking through the forum pages and tried most everything listed.Message Edited by jeffsaylo on -26-2004 07:00 AM

jeffsaylo what bigben said might be right also in the link i have at the bottom someone fixed this by changing the pci slot cause of a irq being used by 2 devices. worked for him but not for me but maybe you want to try it. check for this by going to control-panel then systemthen /hardware/device manager in device manager click view then "resources by connection" then look under irq for audigy and make shure its on its own number also to free up irq's disable unneed devices(in bios or windows?). anyway didnt work for me but let me know if you have any luck?

  • Audigy 2 ZS plat Pro, "What you hear"? problem PLEASE H

Hello, im a gamer, I play cs:source. I just bought the plat pro and I have issues. In gaming you must use a microphone to communicate. And everything was great with my Audigy gamer. But after purchasing the plat pro I noticed I had a problem. In the system volume properties in recording windows xp has the default playback as "what you hear". It doesnt transmit what you speak into the microphone, it transmits "what you hear" Lets say you were listening to music and you try to talk into the mic. All they hear is the music, even though you have headphones on and the microphone isnt picking it up. Anyways, thats what "What you hear" does. So I select microphone in the recording properties and all is great, problem fixed. but when I load up cs:source and when I connect to a server it resets windows defaults to "what you hear" So everytime I connect to a server and try to talk all they hear are my game sounds. yes I can alt tab after connectiing to a server and switch it back again to "microphone" but its quite a hassle.
    PLEASE HELP!

I want to be able to create some custom EAX settings but I can't seem to find any way to do that on the SB Live 24 bit that's integrated on the K8N Neo4 SLI Plat board.  Is anyone able to do this or is it a limitation of the integrated SB Live 24 bit?  I hope it's not the latter...  Thanks.

  • Sound stopped working on Audigy 2 ZS Plati

When I installed this sound card, my primary Master hard dri've was a Maxtor 40 GB. I installed the sound card and the driver, and the front-panel I/O dri've, and it all worked perfectly. I just installed a Western Digital 60 GB Hard dri've as the new Primary Master hard dri've. I used the included Data Lifeguard tools to transfer all data, OS, files etc over to this hard dri've from the Maxtor. If I boot to the Maxtor dri've as the Primary Slave hard dri've, I still get sound just fine. However, if I boot to the WDC 60 GB Hard Dri've, there is no sound at all. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and updating the drivers and re-checked all the plugs and cables dozens of times. There's just no sound at all unless I boot to the Maxtor Dri've, in which case the sound works just fine.
Hard Dri'ves are nothing more than storage. I can't see how a sound card can be incompatible with a Hard Dri've. But there is just no sound, no matter how I twist and turn and squirm, unless I boot to the Maxtor Dri've as the C Dri've (Primary Slave device). Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Audigy 2 ZS Plat everything works except audio cd playb

After installing the card, I have lost the ability to play audio cds. I have system sound, all audio file types play from HD, both dri'ves read and burn data. All other bundled software functions properly. When I insert an audio cd, all tracks show in My Computer, but trying to open with Windows Media Player gives this error message:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is on another computer, verify that you are connected to the network. If you typed a path, verify that it is correct. If the problem persists, the server might not be available.
The Creative mixer, EAX, player, etc. all function perfectly, but, when attempting to access the audio CD from the Creative player, an error message reports the the dri've is in use by another process.
Any ideas on fixing would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same exact problem. I am using Windows XP, SP2. I have 2 dri'ves--one is a DVD dri've and one is a combo CD/DVD burner. They have always worked perfectly--never a problem. Now since I installed the Audigy 2 Z5, neither one works to play audio (except the sampler disc that came with the sound card, and that only works with the Creative software).
I have read the articles and tried all of the ideas. I, too, have the mcicda.dll file in the Windows/System 32 folder. And I do not have the option to install the MCI driver, either.
PLEASE HELP!!!! I have a project I must get completed and can not move forward if this doesn't work!
    Thanks,

  • Using Live! Card with Audigy control head

)I have Audigy 2ZS and Sounblaster Li've ! cards that I bought new, and I have all the Creative OEM software for both.
I have an Audigy control head that came from a used PC that I picked up.
Can the Audigy control head be used with the Li've! card ? If so, which software do I use ?
The input/output pins seem to match, and I have the correct ribbon cable.
    Anyone know about this ?
    Thanks,
    JS in Las Vegas

    David,
If you go into the surround mixer or Windows mixer do you see a listing for the front panel inputs (line in2/mic in2, Aux 2, etc)? If so, are any of them muted? If you go to start/programs/Creative/SB Audigy/Audio HQ/Device Settings, do you show a headphone tab? If so what options are enabled in there?
Double check your ribbon cable connection and maybe even swap sides of the cable.

  • Sound while recording with audigy 2 zs plati

i have the audigy 2 zs platinum. i'm using the /4" line in 2/mic in 2 to plug my guitar into. i can hear the guitar fine until i hit the record button on my software. it records what i'm playing, and will play it back with sound, but, again, no sound while recording. i also noticed there's no "li've" sound during playback. i've checked connections, and installed the latest drivers for the card. i'm using adobe audition 2.0 to record. please help!

Sure. Selecting "Line 2" records the signal just after it has entered the main CL chip, and selecting "What you hear" records the signal after it has been through the mixer/effects DSP in that chip. It's likely that CL lowers the volume a notch to reduce the chance of clipping from mixing/effects processing. Note that the signals at that point are 32-bit, so that some additional headroom really doesn't lose you anything; all you need to do is to raise the recording volume a bit to compensate.
The card's unity settings are designed for 50% on the recording slider and 00% elsewhere (i.e. there is a 2x digital multiplier on the recording slider). You may get some useful insights from a page I have: <a href=http://pages.sbcglobal.net/hamakerd/sbsrc/ target=_blank>http://pages.sbcglobal.net/hamakerd/sbsrc/[/url] by following the Additional Information link at the bottom, and seeing my comments (under the General heading) about how I determined the recording volume settings I used in that testing.

  • SB Live 5.1 to Audigy 2

Currently I've got the SB Li've 5. card, and I just recently bought the Logitech? Z-5300 speakers. Now I'm wondering will there be a noticeable difference if I were to upgrade to the audigy 2 ZS?
    Any information would be appreciated.

The SNR on the Audigy 2 ZS is better so you will notice an improvement in sound quality. You'll also have support for more EAX options, and features like DVD audio playback.
What do you use the PC (or sound on the PC specifically) for?
