Live audio capturing question

We're using Reflectmedia and a Ultimatte DV. Since the ultimatte DV only captures either S-Video and output Firewire, we have no audio. Therefore, when the receiver of the wireless mic is connected to Digidesign M Box 2, I can hear it on the speaker. However, I can’t seem to log and capture the audio in on Final Cut Pro HD. Is there a way to log and capture the audio using a wireless mic?
I setup the Capture setting to use the MBox2 instead of the internal audi, or DV Firewire.
FCP sees the DigiDesign interface in the capture setting. I think that DigiDesign limits the abliliy to record from FCP. However, if FCP is actually recongnizing the interface, why couldn't I use it to capture audio from usb (MBOX2)while video from another firewire source, Ultimatte DV.
The problem here is, I'm attempting to "Log and Capture" the Ultimatte DV (whick only processes video and not audio), through firewire while I capture audio through another source.
Thanks for all your effort
I'm using:

I'm gonna try and capture audio from a flash-application (www.delorean.se/mixer) and convert it to a .mp3-file.
I browsed the web for a few days for a solution and first thought of using The Java Soun API but later read that it doesn't convert to .mp3 :(
I managed to read and create .wav files with it and it wasn't too difficult at all so it was kind of sad that there's no .mp3 support
Then I found JMF and saw that it has a mp3 converter plug-in :)Technically, no. JMF has an MP3 plugin that allows JMF to play MP3s, but the plugin does not allow you to create MP3s. Actually, the same plugin allows JavaSound to play MP3s too..

Would the JMF be a good tool to use for my problem?No, because you cannot encode MP3s. Only decode them...
Does it work like Java Sound API?Not at all.
Does anyone have any general tips when it comes to capture audio from the web using java? (It feels like I've looked over the whole web and I didn't find anyone trying to do the same thing or someone who has done anything similar in the past)Capturing audio is easy. JavaSound + applet...but if you need to store it as an MP3, you're probably going to want to build an Adobe Flex application.
Adobe Flex is their free API you can use to build Flash applications. Google it.
I would be so very happy if I could get some answers on these questions! Be happy. :-)

  • Multitrack Audio Capture question ...Not DV related :)

    I am wanting to use FCP 5 to capture multitrack audio from a firewire interface such as the MOTU 828mkII while capturing video from my Kona LS at the same time.
    the FCP 5 page says, "Multichannel audio lets you capture and output up to 24 channels of high-resolution 24-bit, 96kHz audio in a single pass."
    I'm not sure if that means that you can capture up to 24 channels while you are capturing video or if the multitrack audio capture requires timecode syncing and capturing audio and video separately. The reason I'm trying to do this is that I want to capture the video and multi track audio live rather than recording to a deck with timecode and syncing it up later. I know this isn't the typical way to do it and that FCP capture is a less reliable way to record than a VTR. I'm aware of my Kona card's multiple audio channels, but I am specifically interested in a multi track audio interface (such as MOTU 828mkII).
    I've searched the forums and internet for weeks and I can't find anyone who has suggested that this work. Will a 828mkII just show up as another audio capture device in FCP that will record more than 2 channels during video/audio capture?
    Thanks!

    Hi gevus, I know this is somewhat late and if you haven't already found another solution then I would suggest that you purchase a pci sound card e.g. Soundblaster Live can be had for as little as $35.00 from Newegg.com (a very reliable online store with free shipping most of the time).  I capture video with my 9600 aiw pro and use a sb live...my mb also came with an onboard sound processor (nforce2) however, I still prefere the flexability of the Live card...plus dispite reviews on this nforce2 onboard sound as being as good as Live I disagree I listen to (and watch) alot of movies on my computer and have a pair of BOSE headphones. I cound definetely notice a difference in sound quality.  I dont know your video needs but the Audigy card by Creative Labs is even better if you need or want real good quality reproduction however, remember that the audio sorce is the real key to good sound.

  • MIDP2 live audio capture and streming out

    HI,
    I want for my project to capture (capture:/audio) from mobile while speaking and send it to the host live. Ya, i could do this by recording juz a clip and sending over and over (as datagrams) but my requirement is, how to capture audio live.
    But, record controler interface supports only setRecordStream() - can't get data untill commit() and setRecordLocation() - supports only file protocol. So, i found a class inside mmapi RecordCtrl (implements RecordControl) and i thought of writing an extension for it. but there are lots of restrictions too...
    Do i have to go deeper that much to capture live voice?
    Does anyone have done that?
    Easy way you can think of?
    Thanks!
    Cheers,
    Ivana.

    Hi, I have exactly the same requirement. Did you manage to get a solution?

  • Audio capture question

    Hello,
    I'm trying do to some video editing.  I have a geforce4 4800 (4400 chipset, the msi vi/vo), and a MSI KTV400 motherboard (realtek ac97 audio). Since I have that video card, the sound must be captured from another source (eg. sound card). My camera has the composite outputs (red,white,yellow). I cannot capture any sound because the line-in on the computer doesn't recognize the composite output from the camera (doesn't capture it). I am assuming that the line-in on the sound card is digital. Would this mean that I would need an analog to digital sound converter? If so, where would I obtain this and what would it cost? Or should the line-in on the soundcard (which is on the motherboard) capture the sound? Therefore, it would be my fault. Are there any other suggestions?
    Note: i do not have the s-bracket for the motherboard.  How can I obtain one if I need it?
    Thank you in advance,
    Matt

  • Multitrack live audio capture

    have a program coming up where I need to record 8 discreet tracks silmultaneously. I'll be using a prosonus firepod firewire A/D. which ap would be the best? FCP, Garage Band, or Soundtrack Pro. I'll be capturing and multiclipping video from several cams later so ultimately everything will need to go to FCP. How about 16 tracks? Has anyone ever pulled that off? There will be no video capture while capturing the audio. --Wayne

    I'd use the Cubase that came with the Firepod.
    Or look into the Alesis HDR24. That's what I use for multitrack location audio. I've never had it crash. It's rock solid. Software can crash and you can lose everything. I'm sure the Alesis could crash, but I've never seen it.

    Hi, planning to buy MD101, I will most be working on photoshop, playing live/audio production, occasionally render videos, mild gaming-prototype.gta4 types..my question is mac or windows? my budget stops at MD101 and no further :/

    Hey thanks for the reply
    its not like i must...but i do prefer apple for build quality and the way the os uses the hardware..
    Priority of the laptop will be:
    1- Going live with it, using softwares like ableton like or garageband to trigger samples and ambient patches with MIDI keyboard.
    2- Designing on photoshop
    3 - Occasional video rendering mostly non hd but good quality like youtube 720p
    4 - Gaming when i am bored - I am not at all into gaming but i would surely love to play some
    But i want something that will be durable/storngly built and its hardware/processor good enough to run for 3-4 years.
    Now if a laptop then which one?
    Thank you

  • Audio input for live music video, question

    Hi
    I'm wanting to use imovie to record some solo guitar performances. I would like to be able to process the audio through logic pro as I record the live audio and video. I have a digi003 audio interface and am able to use it as my audio input no problem, but am not able to add reverb and eq through logic pro. I open both apps and in logic I get the processed sound but as I record in imovie I only record the unprocessed guitar. How would i be able to do this? Thanks for the help!!

  • Live Audio / Video Streaming Very Basic

    I need to Stream Live Audio and Video, i went through a web site, and it gives a code,
    [http://www.cs.odu.edu/~cs778/spring04/lectures/jmfsolutions/examplesindex.html#transmitboth]
    in this, i dont no how to run the application, because we should have 2 port addresses each for Audio and Video.
    how do u compile this and capture the file from else where using JMStudio.
    Please help me, i am an absolute beginner to JMF.

    Please don't take this to be offensive, but if you're not able to figure this out on your own, you have absolutely no business playing around with something as advanced as JMF. It's not a question of intelligence or insult, but simply stated, if you don't understand the concept of a URL, and you don't have the ability to extrapolate beyond the exact command-line input you've been given... you need to go and learn the basics, because you lack the grasp of the fundamentals required for advanced programming.
    With that in mind, the following is the answer to your question. If you can't understand it, it means that you lack the fundamentals necessary for JMF programmming, and you need to invest a significant amont of time aquiring those. My explanation should be quite clear to anyone with the proper Java programming fundamentals.
    AVTransmit2 is sample code that can broadcast a single media source (live audio or live video or audio file or video file or video/audio file). It does not have the capability to broadcast more than once source, which is required for live audio and video support. It is designed to take in a single media locator, and broastcast it.
    To meet your specifications, you will need to modify the main method so it is capable of passing in multiple media locators, and thus creating multiple instances of the AVTransmit2 class. To do this, you will either need to modify the command-line argument logic so it supports parsing multiple source arguments simultaniously.
    Or, you could just rip out the command-line stuff and hard-code it for live audio and video. That's the "easy" way.
    The default media locator for audio capture is javasound://0 and the default media locator for video capture (under Windows) is vfw://0

  • Audio capture using AMS Standard

    I'm trying to capture audio from a mic and save on an AMS server running AMS Standard.
    I can make a connection without problems with "rtmp://server_name/live", but when I try to start recording audio with
      mic = Microphone.getMicrophone();
      mic.rate = 44;
      mic.gain = 100;
      mic.setSilenceLevel(0);
      try {
            nsPublish = new NetStream(nc);
            nsPublish.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, netStatus);
            nsPublish.attachAudio(mic);
            nsPublish.publish("recordTest", "record");
       } catch(error:Error) {
           setStatus(error.toString());
           return;
    I get the following error: Application doesn't have permissions for server-side record/append of streams; access denied to stream recordTest.
    Can anyone tell me why and how to fix it?
    Thank you!

    Ah, yes, that works! Thank you.

    I accidentally saved an audio capture recording with QT without switching it to save as audio. It's now a .mov (saved as movie) instead of .m4a. How do I convert from the .mov to .m4a? Also, is there any way to make it save as audio (.m4a) by default?

    Ah, yes, that works! Thank you.

  • Audio capture scratch for iTunes import/48kHz convert

    Working in first FCE HD project. I want to import an additional music track from iTunes. Following the manual's instructions for converting iTunes files to 48 kHz for import, it says to "navigate to the project's audio media folder". In the external hard drive's doc folder it shows all the necessary folders there except Audio Capture Scratch ( which was default checked and unselectable in Settings prior to the initial video/audio capture of existing commercials, etc. from a deck).
    Apparently setting up this Audio Capture Scratch as a destination that shows in the FCE docs window must be done after the initial set-up. (?) If so, I can't find how to do it. According to what I've been reading, though, the Audio Capture Scratch should already be among the 7 folders (Capture scratch, Render files, Audio render files, etc.) but it's the only one missing. Is this even related? Can audio be imported directly to the project as opposed to the ext. drive?
    Question is... Should that in fact be the destination folder? Or do I need to create an "audio media folder" for this project? If so, how? I've not found anything in FCE Help or the Brenneis manual.
    Thanks for any help on what must be a basic conceptual hole in my limited mental model.

    You can import audio files into FCE from any location
    on any HD. The audio file itself could be in your
    iTunes music folder but if so, I suggest making a
    duplicate copy of the song file in some other folder
    (your choice, your location, your folder name) to
    minimize the risk of accidently messing up something
    in your iTunes music folder.
    You could even drag a copy of the file from the
    Finder into the FCE Browser. Once it's in the FCE
    Browser, you can drag the music file onto one of your
    audio tracks.
    The ideal format is AIFF, 16-bit, stereo, 48Khz.
    Truly thanks for that. But... In order to convert the iTunes file to the above, I have to go to the iTunes Pref. window and the folder location field, click the Change button and navigate to the "project's audio media folder"... But I don't have, can't find or don't know how to make that folder. So I can't specify the destination. I'd love to drag/drop, but the format won't be AIFF, 16 bit 48kHz.
    When I read the manuals instruction for importing directly from a CD, it also says to drag the files into my "project's audio media folder", so I'm back to the same problem. I guess I could try dragging from the CD directly to my browser, and I will, but even if that works for now, I need to understand what/where/how to create the audio media folder, as I fear I'm missing a basic understanding here.
    And why is there no Audio Capture Scratch folder showing in the FCE doc folder? Even if this unrelated and irrelevant, I'm still puzzled about that. I'd appreciate any clues here. Thanks again.

  • Streaming live audio in a flash movie

    Hi, I'm working on a website for a local radio station, and I
    want to be able to stream a live audio feed of the radio station to
    a flash movie. Right now all I really know is that the URL to get
    this live feed is
    http://kpacradio.pacific.edu:8000
    - if you put that into Windows Media Player it will start the radio
    broadcast. Is it possible to play this through flash so that the
    user can just stream it from a website rather than having to
    introduce windows media player into it? Thanks a lot.
    David

    No. The Flashplayer can't connect to a windows media
    serverYou'd need to capture the stream and republish to FMS, or
    broadcast directly to FMS instead of WMS.

  • Audio Capture problem in Mac OS X 10.7.5 in Mac mini(in Silverlight)

    I got a mac mini and upgrade Mac OS X 10.6.x --> 10.7.5.
    However do not hearing the audio in Webpage using Silverlight.(10.6. version doing well)
    So, I found the solve this problem, that is a audio capture problem.( My device does not supported Stereo audio data).
    this is the source in audio capture using Silverlight code.
      CaptureSource source = new CaptureSource()
                            AudioCaptureDevice = CaptureDeviceConfiguration.GetDefaultAudioCaptureDevice()
                        try
                            foreach (AudioFormat af in source.AudioCaptureDevice.SupportedFormats)
                                if (af.Channels == 1 && af.BitsPerSample == 16 && af.SamplesPerSecond == 8000)
                                    source.AudioCaptureDevice.DesiredFormat = af;
                                    break;
    af.Channels is always af.Channel == 2(Stereo)
    --- the question is
    How can I caputure audio channel mono?
    If couldn`t, how can I transfered audio capture data stereo to mono?
    Please answer the question as soon as possible ^^

    Mavericks is a 5.3 GB file, it takes awhile to download based on the speed of your internet account.

  • How to encode live audio to a-law?

    Hi all,
    I would like to know how to configure the processor to encode live audio to a-law datasource. I got something like this when I tried to start processor:
    Failed to build a graph for the given custom options.
    Failed to realize: com.sun.media.ProcessEngine@765a16
    Cannot build a flow graph with the customized options:
    Unable to transcode format: LINEAR, 44100.0 Hz, 16-bit, Stereo, LittleEndian
    , Signed
    to: alaw, 8000.0 Hz, 8-bit, Mono
    outputting to: RAW
    Error: Unable to realize com.sun.media.ProcessEngine@765a16
    Thanks.

    I think the format has to be one of those included in the getSupportedFormats().
    For example if you have a single track processor,
    Format[] formats = processor.getTrackControls()[0].getSupportedFormats()
    This should be callled on a confured processor. it returns an array of supported encoding/transcoding or output format for this configured processor. setting any of these should be successfull.
    Once format is set, the processor can be realized and started
    In your case I guess you have to find the format in the array that best matchs your a-law format then use this format from the array to set to the processor. (dont worry, their will be a few a-law formats)
    I think that in your case, transcoding 16-bit to 8-bit was the problem.
    Also, capturing at lower than 44100.0hz when transcoding to alaw 8000 could be considered, I mean capturing at 8000.0hz could work too
