Live bios update questions

I restetted the CMOS, took out all disks and do a fresh boot. Is that the right prcedure?
Where is that bios protection I need to turn off according to the setup?
How many have already used this program successfull on the K8N Neo P?

basically use live update to find the right bios for your motherboard if you do not over clock or do not have problems with your board then i suggest u leave it alone ... only flash your "bios" if
1. you have a board problem or a known upgrade possible
2. you no what your doing
if u do go ahead with flashin use the live update and follow instructions carefully

The bios has never been updated but I may now need to (see my other request for help here in respect of fitting a pci ata controller card) my questions about Live BIOS are :-
Is Live BIOS the best way to update the bios on this board ?
Is there any way of preserving the existing BIOS in case things go wrong ?
Any help, advice, guidance would be much appreciated.

  • Windows 7 - BIOS update question - Satellite A350-13A

    Hi,
I have the Toshiba A350-13A for Poland.
It came with Vista 32 bit system. I would like to install there Windows 7 64 bit.
So I have a question for BIOS update.
In my toshiba model driver section for WIN7 there is only a 32 bit BIOS for OS independent, but in the Vista section there is a 64 bit BIOS.
So shall I stay with the 32 bit BIOS or update to Vista 64 bit BIOS?
    best regards.

    Hi
Do you have any performance or notebook issues using the 32bit BIOS?
If everything is working properly then leave the 32bit BIOS on your notebook.
I would recommend updating the BIOS only if some serious problems would appear
    Cheers

looking at the readme, they look identical, from a "fix" standpoint.
there's one line near the bottom that makes me think that the 7V version is for machines with a discrete gpu/switchable graphics, as yours has.

to determine which one you need, launch msinfo32.exe and check the summary page for your current BIOS version. then just pick the one that matches yours, 6F or 7V.

Yes, I did mean the CPU.  Corrected it now .......
Thanks, I've done that and it's now showing 1800.  Much easier than updating the BIOS.
My temperatures have gone up a bit, though.  CPU is now 47C (was 44C) and system is 37C (was 35C) in PCAlert4, and I'm only on the net and playing mp3s, so it's not exactly hard load!!.  Is this OK?  I really worry about overheating since my old mobo was unstable at lower system temps than this.

  • BIOS update question - 5100 series

    i have a 5110 satellite(australian model)
what changes were made with the last bios flash update v1.2?
what is the 'EC/KBC' v1.5? what does it do?
i have done both but noticed no difference...maybe it was to recognise 1gig up from 512mb?
    thanks,andrew.

    Hi
Unfortunately there are no officials documents about the BIOS changes.
As far as I know some units need the EC/KBC (keyboard controller) update after BIOS upgrade. NOTE: In case that machine loose power during update systemboard will be damage!
Furthermore I dont think that after BIOS update the unit will be able to recognize a 1 GB memory.

Qosmio F50-10k belongs to the PQF55E series.
If you want to update the BIOS you will have to use the BIOS exactly for the F50 PQF55E series.
The Toshiba European driver page provides BIOS for Vista 32bit and 64bit OS.
But this does not mean that you cannot use the Win XP
I think you can use the Win XP but fact is that the BIOS has been optimized for Vista and not for XP
The BIOS update should work also using XP but in some very rare cases the update could not be performed and in such case you will need the Toshiba preinstalled OS in order to update the BIOS

  • Is live bios update nuts

I just installed 2 x1 gb.ram from 2x512 sticks and lost my 1T timing to 2T with selection now grayed out ( cannot select). I rhought I may need to update bios to 1.DO. Using live update to see what version is available and this is what I get.
    1.50 Online Ver. 1.D0 Size 726KB
Notes 1. This is Award BIOS .
    2. This BIOS fixes the following problem of the previous version:
    - Show full logo during POST.
    3. 2006/05/24
Your BIOS is the same or newer than what we provided. You do not have to update it.
Is live update nuts or what? I have bios ver 1.5 and I know 1.DO is newer so what gives.
motherboard site now says latest ver 1D dated 2006/05/24 also says my ver 1.5 is dated 2005/06/03

Finally got the 1T back. Not realy sure just how but after changing bios 5 times from 1.5 to -1D -1C - 1B - back to 1.5 finally to 1.6. I don't realy think the bios was the problem. I discovered that when I would clear c -mos with the button then before or after loading optimized defaults that it wasn't realy clearing everything completely. Like in particular the date, time  (even though I would set it correctly) which then after loading windows avg, start menu and a few other thing were all screwed up. After running awhile the date would be wrong again. I eventually realized it and removed the battery for a few minutes then loaded optimized defaults then I could set date/time correctly (then when in windows the date and time would stay correct). and also was able to get 1T back. Now I am not saying that this was definitely the problem. I realize that I could have just missed setting something in the bios. (I know I am an idiot anyway.) I probably will never be sure. But I have learned 1 thing for sure and that is never to worry about changing bios again as long as I use the usb flash tool method. It's the perfect solution to bios flash with no more sweat. .Looks like the whole fiasco started when I cleared c mos the first time with that damned button rather than removing the battery.
Now I have but 1 problem left and that is cold boot issue even though no oc and I never had it before and it only started at the same time as the 1T loss which was when I changed the ram. I now have to hit the reset button at the windows splash screen to make it finish loading and get into windows. I am searching the forum for possibilities but nothing seems to match though I am still looking. Thanks for all the help.

  • T41 2373-2FG running XP Pro - BIOS update question

    Hi community,
Tried to update BIOS/Embedded Controller to versions 3.23/3.04 proposed by System Update
(TVSU 3.14.0024). History shows both installed.
However, going into the BIOS settings, I still see BIOS v. 3.04a (1RETC4WW)-2004-04-22 / Embedded Controller 3.01a.
I used to get diskette versions from IBM servers to update. Is this still the best and/or only method to update? BIOS cannot be flashed on a T41?
    Thanks for your help.

Have you tried updating it by downloading the BIOS from download page?:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-46258#bios

  • Bios update questions for KT4V

Hey, I updated my bios and I have been having trouble getting my mainboard to work properly.  I found out that I had to clear my cmos after updating the bios (I didn't see anything about doing that in the bios setup area).
So I cleared the cmos, and I still have to detach the monitor from the video card for the computer to startup.
Another thing I have a question about is that when I startup the computer, it says that I have a 1250 processor, when I have a 2000+ processor.  I adjusted the fsb speed to 133 (although I could have done something else?), and that "fixed" the problem, but after I turned off the computer it wouldn't turn back on again (four red lights in back, no matter what).  I cleared the cmos again and the computer started up.  Are there any settings I should leave alone? ?(

Okay, I set the fsb speed to 133, and the computer starts up, but only after I detach the video card, turn on the computer, turn off the computer, reattach the video card, and then turn on the computer.
All the lights on the D-bracket stay red, which is supposed to mean that the processor is damaged or not installed properly, but the processor works fine in other mobos, and I'm sure the processor is installed properly.  The lights stay red until I turn off the computer, detach the vid card, turn on the computer, let it boot for a couple seconds, turn off the computer, reattach the vid card, and then turn on the computer, at which point the computer starts up normally.
I have no idea what the problem is.

  • MSI GE70 2OC BIOS update questions

Hi all, I have the GE70 2OC model with a Windows 7 installed on a HDD drive.
I want to replace the HDD for SSD and install Windows 8.1.
I thought that I might use this opportunity to update BIOS because that was recommended to me to fix throttling issues while gaming. But here is where I have a problem. On this site:
    http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GE70-2OC.html#down-bios
there are different versions to choose and I don't know which one to choose. Right now I have the E1757IMS.509 version.
There is a warning not to crossflash the bios, for example from Win 7 version to Win 8 version because it may result in bricking the system.
    1. But which one do I have now? Is it the Win7 or Win8 version? I only know the number that I wrote above... Could you tell me which one to choose?
    2. Should I update the BIOS before replacing the disk and installing system or after?
    3. Maybe I should firstly replace the disk, install Windows 8.1 and then update the BIOS version to the one dedicated for Win 8.1?
    4. Which tool should I use to flash the BIOS so that the ME and EC firmware is also updated? Or is it a separate thing to do? I've read the stickies in BIOS section of forum but I'm completely confused, in every post there is something else written or recommended.
    5. Does it even make sense to update the BIOS? I mean, will it actually help with the throttling or was I wrongly informed? (I was told to do that by the moderator of Polish MSI forum but it doesn't make much sense to me...).
Thank you for your help in advance.

.5xx is the right one for your NB, .51E is latest one:

use flash instructions included in .txt file inside archive, etc:
    http://www.msi.com/files/pdf/Flash_BIOS_by_UEFI_BIOS_Setup_Utility_en.pdf
about EC its separate update, but can't advice since i don't your current EC version

  • GTX 970 gaming 4g BIOS UPDATE QUESTION

    Hello,
I have read that updating the BIOS of this card can fix some problems, so I was looking forward to do it but I encounter this problem.
My card has a different S/N than all the ones on the download page.
    This is what's on my box: S/N:602 - V316 - 050B1502006079
On the download page there is no "050" version...

Yes, driver MUST be uninstalled or at least disabled (don't reboot!)
Quote from: flobelix on 12-November-14, 04:59:59
After downloading the matching archive first uninstall the Nvidia driver (!) then simply decompress the archive and then execute the included batch file (182.bat in case of NV316MH.182's archive) in Windows by double clicking or via command prompt (must be run as administrator)

There is also NvFlash for Windows but it's also not just clicking. It's flashing a vbios and there should be as less software involved as possible to prevent bricking the card because of a software issue.
