Data movement from R/3 DB to APO DB and to Live cache
Dear APO Experts,
I have few questions on live cache and how it works, I understand that Live cache is memory resident database. below are my questions.
1) What sought of data move from R/3 DB to APO DB and then to Live cache DB
2) When data moves from APO DB to Live cache, till how much duration that data stays in live cache
3) And how does data gets pulled in to live cache from APO DB
4) Why do we require live cache logs while data never gets commited to hard disk
5) Do we ever add a datafile to Live cache DB
any info that you provide on this will be really helpfull to me
Thanks,
ChetanHello Chetan,
As you know, itu2019s MAXDB/liveCache forum.
What is the version of your system?
The is documentation available at:

For SAP liveCache documentation also see the SAP note 767598.
Go to SAP link Best Practices for Solution Management: mySAP SCM at SAP liveCache technology ...
And Review the document u201CManage APO Core Interface in SAP APO (3.x) / mySAP SCM (4.x/ 5.0)u201D
1. As you saw in the reference documents the data transferred from the connected R/3 system to APO.
And the transactional data could be uploaded to the liveCache, if you downloaded them
to the APO database cluster tables first. This procedure steps are running during the
system upgrade < for example, from SCM 5.0 to SCM 7.0 ) u2013 report /SAPAPO/OM_LC_UPGRADE_70 steps. Or you want to migrate the
liveCache to another operating system or convert your system to Unicode,
and therefore you want to back up the liveCache data first so that you
can reload it into the liveCache afterwards - SAP Note No. 632357.
2. Could you collaborate more on this sentence. Could you give examples?
3. u201CAnd how does data gets pulled in to live cache from APO DBu201D
The data are not pulled from the APO DB to liveCache.
When you changed the APO data on the system the LCA procedures have been called from ABAP. The objects stored in the class containers in liveCache can be accessed and manipulated only via LCA routines. The registration of the LCA routines is done automatically when the liveCache is started by the LC10. The LCA procedures in the LiveCache are written in C++
and shipped to the customers as binary LCA libraries(LCA build) together with the LiveCache.

4. See the SAP notes:
869267 FAQ: SAP MaxDB LOG area

5. You could run the quicksizer & estimate how much data you are planning to have in liveCache.
Also the amount of data could be increased by the creation of the new data in APO by users
Or another reason u2026
In general you will add the datavolume to solve or prevent the DB_FULL issue,

Hi Experts,
I am beginner to SCM and Live cache technology.
I have sucessfully installed SCM 5.0 and Live cache 7.6.29 on two different HP-Ux 11.23 servers.
My first requirent is to take live cache backup. But there is no tape drive connect to any of the server,
local file system assigned as backup space, accordingly I have successfully taken online backup of SCM database by modifying entries like backup_dev_type to tape in init<SID>.sap.
Know I am facing a challenge to take live cache backup on local file system , infact dont know how to take online live cache backup.
Another question is database manager gui is needed in unix environment, if yes please let me know the procedure how to configure this as In transaction lc10 upon double clicking database manager gui system generating error.
Please help to solve the above two problems.
Thanks & Regards,
Maqsood AhmedHi Ahmed (no own SDN account? ).
I'd like to make a few remarks on this:
1. Backup to local filesystem w/o moving it to another location afterwards is next to useless. What happens when (when not if!), the local disk crashes? What backup can you use then?
2. You can perform liveCache Backups from DB13C/DBACockpit after you've integrated the liveCache instance (DB59).
3. If you like to administer the liveCache via DBMGUI - just install DBMGUI on your Windows Workstation and connect remotely to the liveCache. Actually this is the way how it was thought up.
For detailed information how to work with liveCache I propose you check:
The documentation [Backup/Recovery SAP Library - Database Administration in CCMS: SAP liveCache Technology|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/e9/dc1c3e46903b2ee10000000a114084/content.htm]

Hello Experts,
Please advise me how to fix the error message which occurs while creating sakes order.
Error message reads:
" ATP check in System PA1CLNT410 is not possible since
livecache is not active".
Kindly adviseIn SAP Best Practice, I found this note which I thought would be helpful to you.
Check Planning Version 000
In your SAP SCM system, use the following path:
SAP Menu --> Advanced Planning and Optimization --> Master Data --> Planning Version Management --> Model and Version Management
Make sure that the planning version 000 u2013 Active Version is available.
If this planning version is not available, this means that the LiveCache has not been initialized. Proceed with the LiveCache initialization before you start with the installation of any SAP Best Practices scenario.
*Live Cache*
LiveCache version: KERNEL 7.5.0 Build 015-122-076-685

Dear Friends,
What does Live Cache Lock mean? How do we use this and what is it for? How to manage in APO? Can anyone let me know answers pls. Thanks in advance.
Regards
BalaHi Bala,
When you create, change and delete orders, rows in relational tables are changed or deleted in the liveCache. The corresponding records stay locked until the end of the transaction. The maximum number of locks on relational records is determined with parameter MAXLOCKS.
If a transaction requires more than 10% of the lock list for locks onto a table, all the multiple row locks are converted into a single table lock (this is called an 'escalation'). If several transactions escalate at the same time, wait situations occur since only one transaction can set the table lock.
There is no 'management' of locks required in APO. If you are seeing many lock escalations in liveCache, an increase in the MAXLOCKS parameter might be necessary.
Thanks,

Hello Experts,
Iam new to Livecache and AP0 and was trying to understand the process of backups reason i need to perform complete SCM 7.0 systemcoopy . In past i have done system copies and well aware of the procedures .
Here it goes Presently we are on SCM 7.0
Question :--> I see our Livecache is installed on one machine and AP0 on another machine. Iam not aware how Livecache
was integrated with AP0.
Iam trying to understand how to take backup of livecache and then restore the same in Target.
In LC10
LCA --> ProblemAnalysis --> Logs --> DBA History
i can see that the live cache backups are in getting successfully everyday.
I see that Backup Label as DAT_000000<xxx> and Backup Template as bac214<xxx>.
Where can i see this Backup Template defined ( the path ) .
Can someone provide an insight regarding the live cache backups.
Checked SAP Note 457425 .
--> After system copy how would i integrate Livecache and AP0 .
Thanks in Advance.

Log Queue Overflows in SCM+Live Cache system

Ok, so what is the problem with that?
You use the liveCache quite heavily (e.g. make lots of commits/changes) and the storage where you put your log-volume to is not quick enough to save the data.
Either you fix the storage speed or you accept that your users might have to wait a bit longer for their application to save the data.
User Basis wrote:
> I think it is occurring because we are managing the Log with "Log automatic overwrite". This configuration is being used because we don´t have a lot of disk space to manage it as well.

These two things have no connection.
A log queue overflow simply means, that sessions have to wait until the log queue is saved to disk before they can put new entries to the log queue.
The log mode overwrite means: you don't care about data security and the ability to recover the liveCache from a backup.
It's a setting used for throw-away database instances where it doesn't matter to loose data.
It means that the database simply overwrites log entries that have not been backed up, when the log area gets filled.

Hi Experts,
Can any one explain what is live-cache and eash access in supply chain management and what is customization in SCM?
Cheers,
Aanand. In Supply Chain Management, large volumes of data must be permanently available and changeable. For this reason, an addition has been made to the SAP DB OLTP relational database system to enable actual data structures and data flows (such as networks and relationships) to be mapped more easily and effectively. The product is called liveCache. The liveCache is object-oriented, and in contrast to SAP DB OLTP, stores its data in the main memory of the database system.
The SAP liveCache technology significantly increases the speed of the algorithmically complex, data- and runtime-intensive functions of various SAP applications, especially within SAP Supply Chain Management.
It combines the advantages of main memory-based data retention with a complete operating concept, including backup & recovery. The application functions are provided by database procedures (liveCache Applications) having an extremely fast access to all application data which can completely cached in main-memory and are organized in relational but mainly object oriented manner.
The SAP liveCache technology can be characterized by a hybrid main-memory database with intensive usage of database procedure.

MAXLOCKS alert generation - SAP Live Cache
Hello Guru's,
We have a requirement for setting alerting for parameter MAXLOCKS on live cache server when it reaches to a threshold value, but we couldn't find any monitoring set in RZ20.
So we have got an idea to use Count(*) on LOCKSTATISTICS and calculate a threshold. But not sure how to do it through Shell Script for MAx DB? Please suggest if any other options as well.
Thanks and Regards,
Sri'sHello Sri's,
1.
Please review the notes:
65946 Lock escalations
1243937 FAQ: MaxDB SQL locks
As you know, the system table LOCKLISTSTATISTICS displays the statistics of the
lock management since the last database start. This system table is insufficient for the analysis of locking conflicts.
2.
Review the sapact script attach to the SAP Note No. 974758 as HINT to your question on collecting the output
of the statement :
SELECT * FROM SYSDBA.LOCKLISTSTATISTICS and
SELECT * FROM SYSDBA.LOCKSTATISTICS
Periodically during the job/application run in question.
Also use the DB analyzer to find the bottleneck in liveCache.
3.
Create the SAP message and get SAP support.
It will be helpful to know what is the version of your system, SAP basis SP, the liveCache version and the reason of your project.
Did you get the DB analyzer warnings with lock escalation?

Bridge cache management still weak in CS4 (trial version)
I've been running the trial version of Photoshop 11 (CS4) and Bridge 3.0.0.464 for a little over 24 hours.
Though Bridge 3.x (CS4) runs
much faster than 2.x (CS3) on my Mac, cache management is already a big disappointment (again). I find myself having to purge the cache
for practically each and every folder, as at least one of the four info lines under each thumbnail fails to populate, usually the first line, "Date Created". On a few ".pct" images (Apple PICT), the Dimensions (in pixels) line refuses to populate even after repeated purging of the cache for the folder.
What remains to be seen is whether ACR 5.2 is enough incentive to upgrade or not. Bridge 3.x falls a little short, the flashy effects in Photoshop are not enough by themselves.Ann,
>I have absolutely NO desire to inflict unnecessary pain on myself intentionally.
That's most commendable. :) Trust me, pain and grief is exactly what you would have.
Here's another way I can confirm the bug:
First I manually delete the cache folders, then do a global purge on startup (by holding the option key and checking the box in the dialog box). The "Date Created" info line is blank (data missing).
Then I Build and Export Cache through the Tools menu. That fixes the missing data in the info line.
Presumably, I now have a healthy cache.
If I again purge the cache globally, through preferences or at startup, the "Date Created" info line goes blank instantly under ALL my thumbnails on all volumes connected at the time.
Then I again Build and Export Cache through the Tools menu. That fixes the missing data in the info line under all thumbnails.
To me, that is unmistakably a bug.
