  • SAP Server upgrade from Windows 2003 and 2008 R2 with Oracle Database

    Hi,
We need to upgrade upgrade our Windows servers that are running our SAP systems from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 R2.  We are using Microsoft Clustering for HA so an inplace upgrade seems not possible.
Someone has suggested to us that we will need to export our database and reimport it to achieve this upgrade however but I cannot understand why this would be necessary (we are not changing the underlying filesystem!).
Could someone please confirm whether a database export and import is required for this OS upgrade scenario?  I have done a bit of research but nothing has jumped out and now I need an answer to this quickly.
    We are running
    - ERP 6.0 NW 7.01 (soon to be 7.02 with ABAP stack only)
    - XI(PI) Java & ABAP
    - SRM (Java & ABAP)
    - Portal (Java only)
    - PLM (Java & ABAP)
    - BW (BI 7.0) (Java and ABAP)
    Thank You
    Felicity

    Hello,
You need to go for 'Homogeneous System Copy' to achieve this, but since almost all the systems in your landscape include the Java Stack as well - so the system copy with Export/Import is to be carried out.
Even if you are not going for file system change, but it is a Windows environment and you can't put SAP up on the target Windows (windows 2008 R2) just by copying the contents and file system from source to target. You need SAPinst to create the registry and all. - On top of that you have Java stacks involved, so for java stack you can't carry out just backup/restore method to put SAP up there on target - so you need Export/import because for java stack some OS level dump is to be collected during system copy from source and it needs to be imported on target OS.
Are you clear on this one ?
Read system copy guide once and Search in OSS for the Notes to check how to upgrade from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2.
    Thanks

  • Inplace and side by side upgrade from windows 2003 64 bit R2 contains SSRS 2008 R2 to windows 2008 64 bit R2

    Hello All,
       Case 1 -In place upgrade
I would like to do in place upgrade from windows 2003 64 bit R2 that contains SSRS 2008 to windows 2008 R2 64 bit. The upgrade would be happened at OS level not at SSRS level.
I would like to know what are the  necessary steps should be taken  prior/during/post  upgrade from SSRS end  as we can not rollback if there is some issue with in place upgrade.
      Case 2-Side by side upgrade
I would like to do side by side migration from windows 2003 32 bit  that contains SSRS 2008 to windows 2008 R2 64 bit. The side by side  would be happened at both OS level and  SSRS level.
I would like to know what are the  necessary steps should be taken  prior/during/post side by side migration  from SSRS end.

Before doing anything Take backups .
    In case of reporting services..
Back up your symmetric key. For more information.
Back up your report server databases and configuration files. For more information.
Back up any customizations to existing Reporting Services virtual directories in IIS.

  • Unable to connect to Oracle db v 9.2.0.1.0 after upgrading to Windows 2003

Hello, I am working on a java enterprise application that accesses Oracle DB version 9.2.0.1.0. It was working until I upgraded the operating system from Windows 2000 server to Windows 2003 server enterprise edition. the db connection is lost sometimes when accessing the db for long time so i have to close the session and open a new one. also the batch file (wfjvlsnr.bat) that resides under (Oracle_Home\ora92\wf\admin) can not connect to the db with the user name (owf_mgr) after upgrading to Windows 2003 although it was working on Windows 2000 server....
Could you sujjest any solution for this problem?
    Thanks....

Are you talking about upgrading the client operating system? Or the server operating system? The first version of the Oracle database that was supported on Windows 2003 was 9.2.0.3, so if you upgraded the server operating system, you'll need to apply an appropriate database patchset.

  • J2sdk-1_4_2 windows-ia64.exe needed for Windows 2003 ia64 bit ?

    hai,
I am installing SAP 4.7 x200 on windows 2003 , Intel 64 bit machine with DB as Ms SQL 2000.
Before Installing SAP i need to have a java runtime environment basically 64 bit for Intel on Windows . I followed SAP note but i am not able to find the exact j2sdk file . I looked at java.sun also and even there i can't  locate the file J2sdk-1_4_2 windows-ia64.exe  .One can easily find the same file for amd machine.
kindly let me know if there is 64bit version of j2sdk on intel 64 bit.

  • Large directory cache tuning on Windows 2003

I have some questions about cache sizes for a directory server deployment (2005Q4) on Windows 2003 (customer's choice), provided that the db directory is about 2 Gb with the following layout, in bytes:
    37 DBVERSION
    16,384 userRoot_aci.db3
    1,286,144 userRoot_ancestorid.db3
    76,210,176 userRoot_cn.db3
    168,583,168 userRoot_entrydn.db3
    1,752,236,032 userRoot_id2entry.db3
    152,354,816 userRoot_nsUniqueId.db3
    16,384 userRoot_numsubordinates.db3
    1,646,592 userRoot_objectclass.db3
    286,720 userRoot_parentid.db3
    5,398,528 userRoot_uid.db3
    - changing allidsthreshold from 4000 to 65000 and reindexing doesn't impact the db directory size since I only have equality indexes on uid and cn.
    - According to the tuning guide, the overall directory cache sizes should fit
in 2Gb, but the database cache size shouldn't be set to more than 1Gb.
I would rather tend to set the database cache to about 1,5 Gb and
leave the remaining memory to the entry cache (and so that the slapd.exe process does'nt exceed 2Gb), and thus I wonder what's the best/recommanded strategy in such a case ?
    - Should I recommend the customer to purchase lots of memory, to profit
from the Windows 2003 filesystem cache, or should we rather rely on
hardware caches from the disks subsystem ?

    Cyril,
Directory Server cache tuning is a very difficult art, especially on Windows and 32 bit OS...
I'm afraid we do not have a definitive answers on what is best. The answer also depend on many other parameters such as request patterns, entry size...
Favoring the db cache seems to work well with machines that are very fast and with a very performant memory allocation system.

  • Unable to Install jdevstudio11113install.exe on Windows 2003 IA64

    Hi there,
I was trying to install jdeveloper 11.1.1.3.0 on ia64 windows 2003, and I kept getting error when installing:
    Java Virtual Machine Launcher
Could not create the Java virtual machine.
Is this jdev supported on the machine/OS version?
    Thanks!

    Have you checked http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/index-091111.html
I guess the problem is that the installer runs on a 32 bit JDK which is not the default on your machine. You can try the jar installer.

  • Backup Restoration fails on MSSQL2005(SP2) on windows 2003 IA64 in ECC6.0

    Hi ,
Iam trying to resore backup of my MSSQL2005 server from a Ultrium 3 tape drive but it's getting failed. Iam able to take the backup sucessfully and Iam able to see the content on the tape0 from SQLStudio Manager. When I try to restore the problem coming, OS is 2003 IA64 and SAP is ECC6.0.
Following error occurs on a pop up.
An exception occured while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch.
             Additional information.
Timeout expired. The time out period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
So we have increased the time out with the command SET LOCK_TIMEOUT 3600; but still no use, we are getting the same error.
I have raised a OSS Mesage but the gentlemen expect the error in SQL 2005 Studio Manager, He say's it's not supporting 64 bit OS. So he suggested to install a 32 bit OS and access the 64 bit database. So I have tried the same , I am able to take backup and view the content on tape. When I try to restore it's giving SQL 3201 error. But this error doc. from Microsoft is not giving any exact reason and it's not maching my case.
    Thanks &Regards,
    Hari.

    Dear Hari,
I also faced same problem and till i did not find solution.
To resolve this issue we did the restore through command line option.
If i will get the solution through management studio i will update it here.

    Nikunj Thaker.

  • Cache Seeding in OBI 11g in Clustered Environment on Unix Box

    hi All,
i want to do cache seeding for a couple of dashboards in OBI 11g,
    Steps taken:
    1. Global Cache is ON
    2. Global shared path is SET
    3 Global cache size = 3GB
i am using agents for cache seeding and are scheduled after the dataload is complete.
It successfully runs early morning...delivers a mail.
But when I am trying to the reports from OBI...its again generating the SQl...without hitting the cache.
It might be due to the Clusterred Env... 2 nodes Env.
Please suggest some technique to achieve this cache seeding.
    Thanks in advance

GLOBAL_CACHE_STORAGE_PATH This path must point to a network share. All clustering nodes share the same location.
    Check the bellow setting
    GLOBAL_CACHE_STORAGE_PATH = "directory name" SIZE;
    ex: GLOBAL_CACHE_STORAGE_PATH = "C:\cache" 250 MB;
CLUSTER_AWARE_CACHE_LOGGING -->Turns on logging for the cluster caching feature. Used only for troubleshooting. The default is NO.
    Example: CLUSTER_AWARE_CACHE_LOGGING = NO;

  • Oracle 9i and upgrade Windows 2000 to Windows 2003

    Hi,
We have a Oracle 9i (9.2.0.6.0 Enterprise Edition) running under Windows 2000 and the OS group is going to upgrade to Windows 2003.
My question is: will Oracle keep working?
I hope so because we are not allowed to upgrade to 10g or 11g and I think Oracle 9i for Windows 2003 can't be downloaded anymore.
    regards,

    Please see your suggested doc
    - Take a cold backup of you existing database before you start OS and DB upgrade .
    - Upgrade the Operating system (refer your OS documentation for detail)
    - Execute 'relink all '
    - Verify that the existing database is working fine with the upgraded Operating system.
    - Take one more cold backup before you start Database upgrade
    - Install Oracle Software (to which you want to upgrade) in new oracle home.
    - Upgrade database (refer the upgrade/migration guide for complete instruction ) *Process To Upgrade the Operating System and Oracle Database Server [ID 407055.1]*
It means you need startup upgrade/migrate.

  • Problems upgrading to Flash player v11 on Windows 2003 Terminal Server

    Hello
I am trying to upgrade several Windows 2003 32-bit terminal servers, v5.2 to Flash IE plugin version 11.1.102.63.  This has not worked on the first two servers that I tried, and subsequently I have been concentrating my testing on just one of them.  The version on the servers prior to the attempted upgrade was 10.3.181.14.
On each occasion that I attempt the upgrade, the executable initially runs, but then does nothing.  The running process is visible in Task Manager, using no processing resource, and around 18MB of memory.  Unless I kill the process manually, it will sit like this indefinitely.  If I attempt the install again, I get a message informing me that only one instance of the process can run.
I have tried rebooting the server, I have tried running the install in terminal server install mode, I have tried uninstalling the previous version, I have tried re-installing the previous version (which works fine).  For some reason, this particular version will not run.
Any suggestions as to the next step would be very gratefully received.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Windows 2003 Upgrade

    Hi Team,
Can we upgrade from windows 2003 to 2012 ?
We have 300, 2003 Servers we need to upgrade to 2008 or 2012. Now question is what are the steps I have to think before start to execute the process . i have to send a document to my manager about my plan. Currently I don't have any information about the
client infrastructure. Kindly provide few details what are the steps I have to take care.

You may have trouble going from 2003 to 2013, it's not directly supported, others have asked:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/7749e559-94c7-44aa-b1f8-ef9abda5f747/inplace-upgrade-from-windows-2003-r2-to-2012
Beyond that, there's a good chance that many of those 2003 boxes will be x86 and cannot be directly upgraded to a x64 operating system such as 2008R2 or above.
I wouldn't recommend considering going to an older operating system than that.  I'd suggest that you have a large task in front of you provisioning new servers with 2012 or 2012 R2 installed from scratch and migrating services to them.

  • NTLM and Windows 2003

I am using the mod_ntlm module quite heavily. In fact, it covers my entire DAD so all my applications can use it, if they want.
The mod_ntlm config has parameters for
    NTLMServer xyz
    NTLMBackup abc
where xyz and abc are the domain controllers on the Windows network.
Our network guys tell me that when they upgrade to Windows 2003, it has native AD, LDAP and all that stuff so there is not going to be any PDC/DC, per se.
Does that mean mod_ntlm cannot be used anymore? That doesn't sound right, I am sure een Windows 2003 would have some backward compatible stuff to provide NTLM/SMB services.
    Comments?
    Thanks

    Vikas,
can you advise me how you get it configured for ntlm?
I'm currently on my way to transparent auth* for our web users, but can't find any solutions.
our supplier said that they can't get the ntlm to work with Oracle's Appache server.
so I started to kerberos auth* and now Apache authorizing me well, but there is issue with PL/SQL, it doesn't support Negotiate method.
Is there any way to send Apache's authenticated user to rest of the process?

  • BOE XI R2 SP3 - Does it work on Windows 2003 Server SP2?

We are using BOE XI R2 SP3 (v. 11.5.9.1076) on Windows 2003 Server (32bit) Service Pack 1. Our company needs to upgrade all Windows 2003 Servers to Service Pack 2.
According to the documentation on the web, BOE XI R2 SP3 is supported on Win 2003 Svr SP1
    (http://resources.businessobjects.com/support/communitycs/TechnicalPapers/boe_xi_r2_supported_platforms_windows_sp3.pdf)
However, I can't find any information on the BOE XI R2 SP3 version running on Win 2003 Svr SP2.
Could someone please let me know if there is such information (link to web site, etc), or if from own experience, this version of BOE XI works with W2003 SP2?
If this doesn't work, what should we do next? Should we upgrade BOE XI R2 to Service Pack 4, and then upgrade Win 2003 Server to SP2, or upgrade Win 2003 Server to SP2 and then upgrade BOE XI R2 to SP4?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you so much.
