Live CD burning
I've got some songs I want to burn that are live. Hence, there is applause at the end of most of the songs. When I burn a CD there is a gap between the applause and really takes away from the experience. Is there a way to eliminate this gap and have a CD that doesn't give me this space between tracks? Thanks in advance
An MP3 Cd will hold ~150-175 songs. big advantage, yes.
Go to iTunes prefs -> Advanced - Burning.
Select MP3 CD.
With this selection, only songs that are in MP3 format in iTunes will be burned to this disc. If you have sone files that are AAC (or other) they will not be burned to this CD.
Burn the same way. Create a new playlist of MP3 files and click burn.
Look at the bottom of the playlist to see how large it is & keep it less than the CD ~700MB.
To see which files are MP3, you can create a new Smart playlist and set it to Kind is MP3. Drag songs from this list to the regular playlist.
Read this -> iTunes: How to set the play order of songs on an MP3 CD

Any hints?Have you checked that the disc is actually readable by the CD drive which you use for booting? Perhaps it may help to use a USB stick to boot Solaris.

My Superdrive -- not so Super as of late -- has been generating write errors when I try to burn CD's or DVD's:
Operation could not be completed: 0X800200E (CD)
Medium write error: (CD)
Error: 0X8002006D (DVD)
Unexpected Error: 0X8002006D (DVD)
Error during verification: 0X80020063 (CD)
"Unexpected error" is really an oxymoron -- is there any other kind?
I've trashed 10 CDs and DVDs experimenting with ways to get burn to work. I can sometimes get CD's to burn at 8X speed, but not always. The higher speed never works. I've used several brands of CD's on the possibility I got a bad batch, but that makes no difference. Burning DVD's doesn't work at any speed with the tests I have done so far.
All of which sounds like the Superdrive is dying. It has never worked very well: it has always taken way too long for inserted CD's/DVD's to mount, with lots of thrashing. But before buying a new (not-so-)Superdrive, I thought I would see if anyone has suggestions about how to salvage the current one. Perhaps part of the problem is with software. I became suspicious of this today when I discovered something really odd. Burning a CD of photos at the slower (8X) speed, the burn completed successfully and the CD icon mounted on the desktop. I could open the CD and then open the photos on the CD. So far so good. Ok, so now I eject the CD and reinsert it. And instead of mounting as a CD with the label I gave it, it mounts as a blank CD with the label "Untitled CD.fpbf" and opening it reveals an empty burn window, not the contents of the photo CD that should be there. If I take this same CD and insert it into a PC, the CD mounts fine and the photos can be seen.
So somehow, the Mac OS is unable to recognize a CD it burned successfully, whereas a Windows machine is able to mount the same CD with no problem. Crazy, huh? (Rebooting my iMac did not make it able to mount the inserted CD correctly; instead it still mounts as a blank CD.)
Any suggestions would be welcome. For the time being I can live with burning at 8X, but I sure want to be able to see the results in my own machine!

Maybe there is some corruption of the source data on the hard drive. To rule that out, boot from an OS DVD, run the Disc Utility to Repair the Volume and Repair Permissions on your boot drive. How much free space is on the hard drive? If totally full, then you might be running out of temp/scratch space that is needed for temporary files during the burn, maybe?
I routinely use DU to repair permissions before and after updates, and periodically just for maintenance. I also have DU check the HD for problems. The checks on the HD indicate nothing needs to be repaired ("The hard disk appears to be Ok" does not inspire total confidence, however), so I haven't bothered booting with the OS DVD and running a repair off it. I also routinely SUDO DAILY (WEEKLY, MONTHLY) with the terminal. I have all the current updates on OS X 10.4.11 and on iLife. So I have pretty much taken care of that end of things.
I agree that the problem is probably hardware. But it did seem odd that I could burn a disk successfully but not be able to reinsert it and have it mount proplerly. I did insert some other CD's I had lying around, and they mounted Ok (after the usual thrashing).
If I do buy a new Superdrive, is it hard to install oneself? Is it just a modular swap in and out, or does it have to be done by a qualified technician? And what do Superdrives cost?
TIA,

Hi,
I'm trying to run a live font (burning oil) over another so that it appears that the letters are burned onto the screen. Therefore, I need the burning oil livefont to appear first, and have the letter appear behind it as it fades away.
I want this to happen from left to right. I am having some trouble making adjustments to the two, however. My preview appeared just as I wanted, but after I rendered a movie (for use in iMovie), it showed the hard letters appearing much too early. I went back to Livetype and moved my fadein effect and exported with no change. I dragged the hard-lettered font further down the timeline (nearly to the point the letters were absurdly late in my preview) and when I rendered the movie, it appeared exactly the same!
Any ideas?
Thanks,
LawrenceUnless you have given your movies unique and different names, iMovie (with which I have zero experience) may not be replacing the old media with the new. You'd have to view all of your movies separately in QT to see if there are any differences. No idea why you're not seeing the changes. LT doesn't behave the way you are describing so I'm sticking with Probable User Error as the more likely explanation.
Get the timing the way you want it and then render two movies, one with the Oil characters only and another one with the hard font only. Match them up in your editor instead of trying to do the work in LT. Dunno if you can do that in iMovie all at once but you should be able to bring in the two font tracks, combine them, render them, and export the movie. Import the combined font movie into your main iMovie project.

My laptop is dead and I need to remote access my files, is this possible?
I'm at my parent's place for the weekend and I forgot to bring my charger, I have an essay to finish for Monday but my laptop it completely dead! Is there any way i can remote access my files on their desktop?
yes, but I'm sure you won't do that.
take off back cover from MBP
detach HD
download fresh Ubuntu Live CD
burn it
install Mac HD into desktop. Be careful to not short circut something.
find USB stick
you're ready.
boot from Ubuntu live
go to Macintosh HD - Users - your user - documents
find needed document there
insert USB stick
copy document to it
shutdown
remove Mac HD from PC, set it back to mac
reboot Pc, remove ubuntu DVD
find your documents on USB stick.

i cannot start up even in safe mode or any otyher mode. I have done the F8 and F10 thing and no results. Is there any other method to use?
leeee64 wrote: it gives me the standard " we are sorry for the inconvenience" message, then asks me to restart. Usually with this type of issue, I can start in safe mode and come up with a fix, but it is not allowing that to happen
Hello leeee64, Usually when you cannot get into safe mode, either you have a hardware fault or the operating system is so corrupted that it cannot load.
Can you get into the BIOS and see if the hard drive is recognized. This might be the first approach.
You might also try and download a LInux Live CD, burn a disk, insert the Live CD in the optical drive and see if the Live CD will open the Linux operating system.
If it will, this would suggest a failed hard drive and/or corrupted operating system, but confirm there are no other hardware faults such as a faulty motherboard.
Here is a link where the Live CD software can be found.
Just some thoughts.

Hey guys. I'm trying to encrypt a 2TB RAID 5. I run the command:
cryptsetup -c aes-xts-plain -y -s 512 luksFormat /dev/md0
After I've entered and confirmed my password, it seems to go for a few moments, and then the whole computer locks up. It cannot be accessed directly or through ssh. My first though was that the drives might be pulling too much power, but I think the entire computer would die. Also, I seem to be able to create and ext4 partition and mount it. My though was that maybe 2TB is too big, but I couldn't find any information about that online.
I tried to see if my computer was just using all the resources and would unlock after time. After 30 minutes or so, nothing has happened, I'll assume the issue is not that the cpu is maxed et cetera.
After waiting, its still locked up... I also tried creating and LVM and then encrypting it... I successfully created the LVM, but the system still locked up...
There isn't really any debug to output, but I have loaded dm-crypt and aes-i586 modules.

What I did was to download finnix live cd. burn the iso. run it and then run finnix-thumbdrive to have it install on a usb drive instead, took about 5mins until it was ready. inserted the usb drive into my server, loaded the modules, started up the array and then the lvm, then run cryptsetup and it worked much better this time -
Okay, my hard drive has some bad sectors on it. I've tried getting my computer to run fsck on bootup with the command "shutdown -Fr now" as detailed here, but it doesn't seem to do anything at all. What do I do?

Buy a new hard drive ??????
You might be able to save some of your data by using Slax or some other live-linux disk (arch-live) and burning what data you can save to dvd's/cd's. If your hard disk has bad sectors, odds are, it's going to completely fail anyway. Best bet, save what you can and replace it. -
I have version 4.1.2 and have been doing great rercording for several years. I use only real instruments. This week I added "acoustic guitar echoes" to my classical guitar, and that enabled the "flanger" setting which is what I wanted. Mysteriously, every time I burn a test CD, that lead guitar track is very weak, even though the recording level is quite high. Nothing I have done has helped the mix. Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to circumvent it? I've tried burning straight from GB to a CD and also via Itunes; it doesn't make any difference. Thanks.
P.S. I usually record my classical guitar on the "vocal" and "live performance" settings, using my Blue YETI mic, set on stereo. I get great recordings which always transfer perfectly to my CDs. I'm puzzled why adding the acoustic guitar echoes would be failing in the burn process. Hope this clarifies.

My iPhone charger was burned up while my iPhone 3GS charged. How can I research this problem if I live in Ukraine on this time? Sorry for my poor English.
Take it to Apple and purchase an out of warranty replacement for it.
Replacement is the only way to fix broken electronics.

Live! 24 bit will no longer burn cd's with new bur
Problem:
I bought a better cd burner and now Creative Mediasource says that no supported burner is found installed. My computer sees it. It plays dvd's as advertised.
Old burner: Optiwrite (no name cheapie)
New burner: Sony model CRX320AE
My computer: eMachines 600mhz, 256 ram, about 5 years old.
I looked thru the forum, found only a suggestion that I uninstall and reinstall the sound card. I'd rather know for sure first.
Compatibility issue?
Thanks
NickBrassmagnet,
MediaSource uses a burn engine from NTI. Go to the following website, they list your dri've as supported with their latest database update. Just download the update at the bottom of this page and copy it into your MediaSource folder.

Can I Change The Font Of A Live Font? eg. Burn Barrel to Apple Chancery.
I am sure I didn't dream it!
A couple of days ago I am sure I succeeded in changing the LiveFont called "Burn Barrel" into Apple Chancery - that is the Apple Chancery font was blazing.
Now of course I can't do it.
Was it a dream?
If not please remind me how it is done.
Ian.
(I have posted this in the LiveType forum but replies there tend to be sparse). Thanks - I'll take your word for it.
I discovered how to alter the attributes a couple of days ago and I could have sworn I had also managed to alter the font of the Burn Barrel and others.
Unfortunately, to free up HD space I deleted all my experiments - so I will never know exactly what I did achieve!

I use my computer a lot for some hefty projects on Photoshop and Illustrator. In addition to using it for school. I had a problem last summer with my computer, it started to crash at random. I mean it crashed, like i'd be in the middle of something genius, and the next second, there was nothing. Dead. I took my computer to the mac store, and they sent it to texas or something like that. They gave it back after a week or so and claimed absolutely nothing was wrong with it... I turned it on in the apple store, and click, it crashed again.
Next step was to back all my files to my external, and start fresh. It was finally working well after that. Having no files on my computer, it ran like it was supposed to. After 4 months, I am back with the same problem. It crashes as if it just all of a sudden runs out of batteries. Sometimes it's after 5 hours, sometimes it's every 2 minutes, sometimes it doesn't even start up.
I can't get past the questions, namely, Why me? Why now?
I have my external, but it wont let me add what's on my computer to it, unless i erase everything. I also have my software on here, CS6, and don't want to go through the trouble of legally acquiring it again. I am in Barcelona, and I am traveling again in the next coming weeks to 4 different countries. So I will not be static enough to wait on my computer. I desperately need it to stablize before i begin my next semester of school. It would be very nice for it to stablize before then, as i have many projects i have to do.
Please help me.

I have money to burn but can't spend it because I live in Canada
oh well, guess I'll try Google video.
Seriously guys, please try to give us canadians access to all the content. Thanks. As has been said here many times, Apple cannot offer video content in Canada (or any other country) unless and until the owners of the content will license Apple to provide the videos there. And thus far, said owners have not been willing. Until they are, there's absolutely nothing further Apple can do.

Cinema display 24" burned and died
I wonder if anyone can give me any advice. I bought the £650 24" Apple Cinema Display 18 months ago from the Apple Store. On Friday I got a burning smell and it died.
Took it into the Apple store on Monday. They said it is out of warranty and that they could repair it for £500 - LCD fail.
Does anyone know if I have any consumer rights with this? Surely I should expect a £650 monitor to last longer than 18 months? At the time of purchase they didn't even offer me an extended apple care warranty.
Apple products usually have such long lives. I have an 8 year old ipod and 4 year old MBP and they are both still going strong!Update: This may be useful for anyone else who has had the same issue.
Took my display to an independent but Apple Authorised repair centre where I had them run a diagnostic test on it. Turns out it was the logic board which had burnt out which they said was a manufacturing fault.
So the £500 repair quoted by the Genius Bar actually turned out to be £80.
I also had this repair done free of charge as I used my my consumer rights - the Sales of Goods Act 1979. This applies to the UK only and should cover you for up to 6 years.
It also states on the Apple warranty page that in the EU they cover items for 2 years if it's proved to be a manufacturing fault.
Thanks Apple, my cinema display is now back on my desk
Hope this post may help someone else in the same predicament!
