Live CD x86_64 not working on Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
Hi,
I wanted to install the x64 version of Arch as I want to make use of the full 4GB ram my notebook has.
However, trying to boot the live cd for the x64 version allways results in a reboot after the kernel is passing on the init scripts to arch and arch is trying to load the acpi modules. Using the 686 version it works.
So am I mistaken in thinking that the Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU supports 64 bit?
Ok, disabling ACPI in the grub kernel line seems to fix the problem. I think it's weired though, that it works with the 686 version... guess a bug report is in order.

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU Freeze Issues
Hi,
I have dual boot option windows 7 OS and windows server 2003 installed and have been facing two issues:
1. No drivers available for windows 2003 Enterprise edition. I have already written to MSI support for this and the answer was that I need to hunt specifically for the drivers from chipset vendors. If any of you have the drivers for windows 2003 and windows 2008, please share the same.
2. I had previously multiple combinations -windows XP and windows Vista, windows XP and windows 7, windows 7 and windows 2000/windows 2003. In all these combinations, I have always faced a problem of system freezing and not doing anything at all. Mouse and all system activities comes to a still. Unable to find out what the issue is about. Please let me know the issue resolution ASAP. I am putting some details regarding the system below (as taken from system information from windows 7), please let me know if you want complete system information and how to upload it.

And which drivers in particular do you need? Best I'm aware is that Windows XP drivers are usually suitable for use with Windows Server 2003. And for Windows Server 2008, Vista/W7 drivers should work.

Well this particular 'issue' could be caused by just about anything, so without knowing more details about the hardware in your system, as well as more information on the problem you're having, there is no magical quick-fix solution we can give. -
[SOLVED] Mic does not work on Intel ICH8 (rev 3) sound card
Hi, folks.
I cannot get my sound card to record anything, using a built-in microphone. Audio output works just fine, though. I hope someone can help me, I have been banging my head against the wall for some time over this issue...
My laptop is Toshiba Satellite A200-1J0 (PSAE6E-04R036G3). alsamixer settings are fine, I tried supplementing additional options to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf, but no luck, tried some of the combinations (model=<> position_fix=<>).
When recording sound with gnome-sound-recorder, with Capture set as input, nothing is heard. Skype can't record anything, either. I can't even get the crackling or hissing sound like some users do.
Should I try to get the latest ALSA?
Debug details start from now on:

Last edited by teMplaryum (2010-01-26 10:15:18)Hi there!
I had the very same problem with the same soundcard and found this thread.
The problem got solved for me by adding the same line as you have to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf.
However, I also had to create /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf and add:
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba power_save=0
Notice the difference on the "model=toshiba" part.
However, my laptop is not a Toshiba, but a Compal IFL90.
I remember that in Ubuntu I needed(a long time ago) to add a line to /etc/alsa.conf with model=toshiba. I figured it might be worth a try, and well, it did.
I hope this can help someone else.
As for the OP: "You have my thanks!" -
My IPad cannot download live Tv from skygo. I have no problem with my lap top so I assume the broad band is okay. Can anybody suggest why the live streaming will not work on my iPad .
Are you using the Sky Go app to try and watch it ? If so are you logged in with your Sky account ?
If you are using the app then you could try closing the app completely and see if it works when you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Sky Go 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Sky Go app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. -
Window 10 build 10041 does not work with Intel 82579V Gigabit Ethernet on ASUS motherboard
I originally posted this question here:
answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_update/window-10-build-10041-does-not-work-with-intel/6729892f-83aa-4822-b20a-ea84f4fd06c7
and was asked to post it on this forum...
I updated a computer I have which is a quad core i7 that I built and includes an ASUS motherboard with Intel 82579V Gigabit Ethernet built in. Windows 10 preview 9926 worked fine with this network adapter. Window 10 build 10041 does not, and I have tried
it twice so far. I even went as far as buying a Thunderbolt-Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (Broadcom, sold by Apple)... and while it installed the driver automatically, it did not work either. Each time you try to view the properties of either of them, it locks
up or give an error. In fact, doing much of anything with the Intel adapter icon assures you of not being able to do a clean reboot... have to kill power. I have finally gone back the previous version 9926, which has its issues but no where near as bad
as not having any network connectivity! Does anyone have this issue and a workaround?
Note, there are two images on the windows 10 preview forum that I posted this question on. I could not post the full link as I was getting a message here that links and graphics are not allowed. Thanks Roger, I posted the following yesterday in the other thread (thinking it was this thread - confusing after they moved it here)... It may be that the new driver fixes the issue that 10041 has with it, but I have not tried that yet. If I do I will update
this... Thanks!
I have more information about this, which basically exonerates any issue with the Intel 82579V Gigabit Ethernet hardware or software. I have 3 computers with Windows 10 preview so I have multiple angles to see issues from. With this I have found a culprit
(but I suspect not just the only culprit) in this above mentioned problem...
10041 build combined with installing (or attempting to install) CISCO VPN Windows 7 64bit 5.0.07.0440-k9 client causes the issue mentioned above. I confirmed this on a completely different machine with a totally different Ethernet adapter. First machine
is an ASUS motherboard in a tower system I built, with the Intel 82579V Gigabit Ethernet hardware built in. Second machine is a Gateway Laptop from 2008 which has a Marvell Yukon 88E8057 PCI-E Gigabit adapter built in. Build 10041 will work fine with my 2008
laptop, including the MS VPN client (which I have tested). However, if you attempt to install or even uninstall the Cisco client you will have to do a recovery to a restore point (as I have done twice) in order to get your network working again. Installing
or attempting to install (because it never even does install properly and times out), CISCO VPN client will render your entire network unusable. Going back to a restore point saved me and I am still running 10041 but I can't use CISCO VPN client any longer.
I could with build 9926, including on all 3 machines. I now have 9926 on two machines and 10041 on only the 2008 laptop.
Hopefully this above information helps someone resolve the issue. I will also mention, even though my network is working on the 2008 laptop, I still can't go into the Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections and right mouse click on the Marvell
Yukon 88E8057 PCI-E Gigabit adapter icon. I get an error when clicking on Properties menu popup : "An unexpected error has occurred". So something is still up with my network adapter driver or windows software, but it could be a side effect of all
that has happened with the Cisco software install attempts under 10041.
Another note: CISCO Anyconnect also has the issue. -

Windows Live Tiles are not working and refreshing
Hello,
I have looked for an answer but can't seem to find one so this is honestly my last resort. For some reason my Windows live tiles are not working nor refreshing. When I open my Netflix app for instance I get a playback error N8102, but I am strangely connected
to the internet. Oddly, however, Netflix does work well using firefox on the desktop.
I tried to check if I needed an app update for Netflix, but the Windows app store is not loading as well. Internet explorer app is not working, and IE on the desktop is taking too long to load. But firefox and chrome work perfectly well on the desktop.
Other problems that I have encountered are:
Microsoft Office 2013 is taking too long to open, and when it does it often crashes
I can't view my Windows Updates
Can't view control panel. It also crashes.
I am not sure what the problem is.Hi GBell101,
Here I list these issues:
1. Windows Live tiles are not working
2. Netflix app not working error code N8102
3. Can’t open windows app store
4. Windows office 2013 often crashes
5. Can’t view Windows updates and control panel
Please share us more information for better analyzation:
1. What changes had you made before you met these issues?
2. Do you receive other error messages or code?
3. Do you mean we can’t open Windows updates and control panel or can’t find them?
Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
1. Install Silverlight on the computer and check if the Netflix issue persists.
2. Run the app troubleshooter, for more information, please refer to the following article.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/what-troubleshoot-problems-app
3. If the issue exists, we could conduct the system restore to restore Windows to a earlier point in time.

HP Mediasmart Live TV does not work on Windows 10
HP Mediasmart Live TV does not work after Windows 10 upgrade. Error says: Your TV tuner cannot be accessed because it is being used by another application. Please close any programs that might be using it and then try again. Although I am able to open the settings and scan for channels, and I see the channels being found, but still no luck watching after the setup is done. My HP Laptop has a built in HP ATSC/Analog TV Tuner card. (AVerMedia maybe?) I suspect that is may have something to do with the fact that the driver does capture at the same time you are watching (Allows you to pause and then continue watching live TV, also has the ability to scedule recordings) Unfortunatly Windows 10 also removes Windows Media Center, so I can't check with that software, is also possible a remnant may be left behind to support Windows Media Center that is conflicting with something else. Also would be nice if they would fix the installers so it does not uninstall the software, then fail to re-install it. (All without any display or error messages, so your left scratching your head trying to figure out what happened.) I managed to get the rest of MediaSmart to work, although it looks like the internet veiwer may not connect to anything anymore. Looking for an updated driver or installer, or patch that would work for Windows 10. As far as I can tell on the internet HP MediaSmart Live TV is supposed to work on Windows 10.
OK, More information. Installed Media Portal 1. This works with the tuner card without additional modification, so this appears to be some kind of issue with the software. Media Portal 1 does install a different version of Direct X, I don't know if that could have anything to do with it, but HP MediaSmart Live TV still comes up with the same error and will not run.

Live Preview is not working for me
Live Preview is not working for me. I've read many other forums and tried everything and I still get the same issue that everyone else has mentioned. I'm on Chrome Version 34.0.1847.116 m . I have multiple user profiles with Chrome so not sure if that makes a difference.
Adobe Edge team, for a lightweight browser that should be easy to use, this does not make it easy. Hopefully you can implement a fix soon that works for all cases as I was really looking forward to trying this out and I'm unable to.I am having issues as well.
Running through the intro tutorials - Just the basic HTML tutorial files. When initiating live preview, I restarted Chrome as prompted for debugging, After restart the preview page loads fine a single time, works for about 10 seconds or so and then disconnects. I cannot get it to reconnect without restarting the program, but the same thing happens.
Live Preview Error: Unable to Load Development Page
The live preview icon remains orange - as if connected, but no changes write to the preview window in HTML or CSS.
Ive seen the other threads, but none of those items seem to fix my issue.
Anything I can do here besides wait for update? Love the basic product - the editing features are awesome, but until live preview + reliable FTP is set, I'll probably stick with current coding solutions.

Hi Friends,
I have Macbook Pro 14 Inch INTEL(R) CORE(TM)2 DUO 2.4 GHZ ,4GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, unable to login into MAC OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.3 Version but with Boot Camp i can login into Windows 7 Home Premium, so i would like to clean the HDD and install NEW Version MACINTOSH OS, Which of the Latest OS perfectly workout to install in my MACBOOK PRO, I didnot have LAPTOP Backup disc......Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
our Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
If your computer isn’t compatible, you might be able to upgrade to Lion.
Computer Compatibility - Lion Lion
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

SIMS 2 not working on Intel-based Mac Mini
SIMS 2 will not work on new Mac Mini. I contacted Aspyr who said that the integrated graphics card prevents it from displaying graphics and that this was a hardware problem.
Is there any way to make SIMS 2 work on the Mac mini
-update or add on graphics card
-use in PC mode
- or ?
Mac mini Mac OS X (10.4.5)Hi Hillview,
If you bought 'The Sims 2' for Mac then it will only run on either a PowerPC Mac or an Intel Mac running OS X, not under Windows with BootCamp unfortunately. This means that you can't attempt to run it in "PC" mode. The Apple Store states that the minimum 'Graphics' requirements to run The Sims 2 are either an ATI 9200 and higher, or a GeForce FX5200 and higher. Unfortunately they don't quite take into account that they are shipping macs with Intels integrated graphics chipset now, and no Intel specific requirements are mentioned in the system requirements. It does however state that a minimum of 32MB Graphics Power is required to run the game, and the GMA950 that is in your mac mini has upto 64MB shared, meaning that technically it should run fine.
It must simply be a problem in the way that the Intel graphics chip processes visuals that are specific to the game its self and unfortunately you can't upgrade the Graphics chip inside your mac mini - it's soldered in! A call to the Apple Care Help Line may be your best bet, because the chances of you being able to get it running, aren't really looking all too good unfortunately =(
Hope that I may have been of help

GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object not working on Intel 945GSE
Hello everyone,
I noticed that one of my older applications does not work on my netbook with a Intel 945GSE graphics card.
The application requires either OpenGL 1.5 or the GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object extension. The Intel 945GSE supports this extension, but it doesn't seem to be working correctly on my machine.
The problem is quite simple: I can get a pointer to glGenBuffersARB using glXGetProcAddress and invoke it, but it never gives me a reasonable VBO name (usually zero or some very high value).
The funny thing is that glxinfo reports that the extension is supported (which is true, I had no problem using it on my previous Debian system), but glGetString( GL_EXTENSIONS ) does not.
I am using the xf86-video-intel driver and mesa-full from AUR.
