Live effects pattern overlay

I'm trying the PhotoShop LIve Effects in Fireworks CS4, and trying Pattern Overlay. My problem is I only see controls for Opacity and Scale, not to change the pattern. There is only one pattern, which isn't very useful. I tried changing to another pattern in the main Properties but that doesn't change the single pattern in live effects, which looks like big bubbles. Am I missing something here?

Photoshop Live effects are more of a way to maintain existing Photoshop Layer Styles when a PSD file is opened in FW. Yes, they are of limited use, but they are functional. For example, the Stroke Live Effect is a feature that is not available in Fireworks. Very handy if you want to add a stroke around a bitmap image.

Without reason and at great costs, live effects convert to unusable web style graphics. This is not photoshop. Is adobe moving to kill Illustrator in favor of PhotoShop style web graphics? Suddenly every time I open a template the drop shadow or Gaussian blur has been converted to transparent overlay with a giant opacity mask applied. In trying to repair the damage by releasing the opacity mask the whole graphic jumps to a black square? Not all of the effects do this, just newer templates. I first thought because a fellow artist creates her graphics in RGB work space that this was the cause. It is not. Now randomly this happens. What am I doing wrong that causes this.

No they are ones my company creates for products we carry. We print on the items. I need to center logos on the items and not the items and the shadow. I also need to update the items as time goes by. It used to be as simple as open the file and make the needed changes. Now I have to start from scratch on the items that self convert. Any time a computer file self converts to a different type of file you have a problem. Only certain templates have morphed like this. I'm sure it's something I'm not catching.

Photoshop cc for windows 64 bit-are there filters and/ or pattern overlays that become part of photoshops filter menu?

In the many iterations(last 6months) of photoshop cc running on a win7 pro 64 bit box. There are filters like stones marble concrete and some pattern overlays that have disappeared. IE NOT THERE ANYMORE! So I am trying to find them-not sure if they were add ins plug ins or even non adobe -BUT APPROVED TESTED ADD INS PLUGINS NONETHE LESS these filters for effect are mission critical!

New Live Effect which Recolors Brushes

I'd like to see a new Live Effect in Illustrator that works like Photoshop's "Color" layer style and After Effects' "Fill" effect.
This would be very useful for easily changing the color or an applied brush stroke in AI.
E.g. Say I have a square that has a Pattern Brush applied to its stroke. The brush has a lot of goofy colors, etc.
I'd like to make the colorful pattern stroke match the color of the fill.
If I could just apply a "color" or "fill" effect to the stroke then I wouldn't have to Expand it and loose editability with it.
It would also be nice if this new effect could be applied to the object as a whole over all fills and strokes to quickly make a silhoutte type effect.
I know that you can take an object and just group it and can then apply a new Live Fill to the group. But this only works if there are no Strokes involved.

You could try to reinstall using the full three step way:
Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

Obviously, this is a silly suggestion, but it may solve a possible even sillier issue of having a corrupt installation right from the beginning.

Live video pattern match

Hi,
I have created a program from where you can look at a live video (contious aquisition within a loop) and from that, create a template which you then use pattern match on. The idea is to be able to track movements of the template (in my case components on a PCB) in the live video. Everything works just fine, however, when I try to change the template in the program (I have a button in the GUI where you can either create a new template or load a previously saved template), the program for some reason still uses the "old" template. I'm not succeeding to change the template used in the pattern match part of the vision assistant express vi while I'm running the program.
If I stopp and restart the program I can load a new template however.
I'm beginning to think it has something with the image aqusition and not disposing images correctly, to do but I could need some help.
Is there an example out there that uses live video pattern match where you can load/create templates on the fly?

I looked at the example but it not really what I looked for. In your example, the match is done on a previously recorded video file. What I would like to do is to do the matching on a live video.
I've managed to do matchpattern the first time I load or create a searchpattern. But if I want to change the match pattern template while running the VI, it continues to use the old one...(I'm aware I have trouble explaing the problem...)
The structure of my VI is as follows:
while (not stopped or stop aquisition of images)
1. Continously aquire images
2. Do a search pattern task (a -no pattern match, b -use "old" pattern, c - create new pattern and d -load a previously saved pattern)
3. Do a pattern match (use vision assistant to do a pattern match on the image aquired in step 1, with the template from step 2.
4. Overlay the match (if found) to the image aquired from step 1.
5. Calculate the radial movement between two following frames (the calibrated matches array from vision assistant in step 3.
6. Save radial movement to file
end
It works, but I have to restart the VI before I can use a new template (otherwise it just keeps showing the first match)
I guess it has something with how I aquire images, to do?

Pattern Overlay option missing?

OK, so I'm really new, so if this is posted in the wrong place I apologize.
OK, so here goes. I've been working on a text effect and ran into an issue. They say to hit layer, choose layer style, and from there I can edit the inner and outer glow, as well as the pattern overlay. I'm not seeing a 'layer style' button, just a style setting button, where I'm able to set the inner and outer glow, but there's no option anywhere for pattern overlay. I know these must be there, and it's probably going to be a slap myself moment, but can someone help me out?

Fill effect patterns?

My client needs to be able to print out their dashboards and since they only have access to a black and white printer, I have been asked to find a way to use some sort of fill effect pattern or skin on the bar and pie charts so items can be easily identified. I am at a loss on how to go about doing this. I using Xcelsius 2008 and would really appreciate any help. Thanks,

I agree with Liliana.
Though it is not possible directly, you can show the difference using RGB combinations.
Hope they have inject or laserjet B/W Printer. This should suffice.
if u want more clarity, please revert so that i can give u step by step procedure.
Set the same in the pie chart properties as follows :
Appearance-> Colors->Slices->Fill

Adobe Live Effects are not supported 100%. Why?

Using FW CS3 for Web designs.
As most of you know, you can implement some Photoshop Live
Effects inside FW CS3 but not 100%.
I am curious why?
For example, in FW CS3, when I try to implement "Satin"
effect to a button, my preferences are limited compared to Photosop
version. In Photosop you can select a preset contour and you can
change the blend mode. But in FW you can only change angle,
distance, color, size and opacitiy.
And same thing goes for other effects. They don't have same
options, and they don't create same effect with PS CS3.
I am asking this because I used strictly FW for my Web
designs, but now I see that I can create much cooler buttons in PS
CS3, which is mainly a photo editor :/
Is there any way to make it 100% PS compatible?

Based on the timing, I suspect that development of FW CS3 was
started
before Adobe and Macromedia merge. So the fact that they are
not 100%
compatible does not look surprizing to me. Probably it will
change in the
future. Take into account that PS and FW are rather big
projects, they
cannot be fully re-coded in a minute.

Live Effects on images that crossover gutter.

I have a 156 page job with facing pages that was created in Indd CS4. It has many instances where images are placed which crossover the gutter. The images have some transparency effects applied. Basic Feather and/or Inner Glow, so the outside perimeter of the image fades to paper. When we print or export pdfs as single pages it breaks the image at the gutter and then applies the effects to both the left and right hand halves of the image adjacent to the gutter so when impose for print there is a white feathered area running vertically through the gutter.
The solution is NOT to print in spreads. If this was a simpler job I could do that. This is a fairly complicated imposition and the pages are in 32 separate files. Anyone know a setting to keep the live effects from applying to the center of the image when single pages are created?

Oh I got around it easily enough. Just cropped it down in Acrobat.
But still... See images below. Exported with bleed & without bleed.
Though today, found a solution! Simple enough - just fill those image boxes white (& extend the boxes further out so no shadow in the bleed).
Wtf? Even with images bleeding off, the shadow snaps to the trim box when exporting a PDF with no bleed!? And all it takes is a fill of white instead a fill of none....

Photoshop CC 2014 pattern overlay tooltip not showing

It appears the tooltip in pattern overlay dialog box is broken. It makes it very hard to create background images when you can't see the image dimensions. Anyone have a fix for this?

Please correct me, are you referring to the below mentioned snapshot:
where: we are seeing the image name and related pixels details as a tool tip? If so, please check whether you have selected the "Show Tool Tips" option from the preferences panel.
How to check: in PhotoShop CC2014, go to "Edit--> Preferences", Select "Interface" from the panel and check for "Show tool tips" option to be checked. You can then observe the behavior.

The error message "No more virtual tiles can be allocated" appears when I try to use the effects in the quick editing mode in my Elements 13. The baton OK has to be pressed several times for loading all effect patterns. The error returns when selecting the particular pattern.
The problem does not appear, if PH Elements 13 is executed in the administrator mode.
The available computer resources are rather large enough: CPU INTEL i7 4 cores, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD + 32GB SSD, Windows 8.1.
Please, advice how to solve this problem? Maybe, there is patch or updating available?

Thank you for the quick answer. In the meantime I found other way to pass by the problem. I increased the cache level up to the maximum value 8.
The errors reported as "No more virtual tiles can be allocated" vanish, but I still do not understand, why PSE 13 cannot work properly by the lower cache levels, having available maximum resources it needed (10443 MB RAM and 26.53GB SSD space for scratches), or cannot collaborate with the fast SSDs properly.

Photoshop CC 2014. Pattern overlay preview window has schrinked

Strange issue here. The preview window in the layer panel for pattern overlay has schrinked down to just show one pattern. Can't scroll. Can't resize. Can't use patterns that is. The same thing is happening to the preview window in the gradients panel. It doesn't collaps all of a sudden, it becomes smaller and smaller over time. Anybody seen this?

Could you please post a screenshot to illustrate the issue?
Have you tried restoring the Preferences yet?

Pattern overlay lost when converting to editable text?

Hey everyone.
I'm using CS5, PC.
I'm facing an issue I never faced before and I can't find a relevant answer for CS5. I did see an answer that is probably correct for CS3, but I hope its solves by now.
Try 1.
I imported a PSD as composition with merge layer styles.
I then go to a text layer, which I want to convert to an editable text layer. When I open the properties, no layer styles appear. (because I chose mergerd layer styles composition..)
The original PSD in photoshop has only a pattern overlay.
When I convert it to editable text, the pattern overlay disappears.
Try 2.
same importing settings.. go to the text layer...
Right click ->layer style -> convert to editable layer styles - - - > Patter overlay + Blending options appear in layers properties.
Second Right click -> convert to editable text - - - > pattern overlay disappears.
Try 3.
I imported a PSD as composition with editable layer styles.
I then go to a text layer, which I want to convert to an editable text layer. When I open the properties, 'Layer style' appears. can toggle on/off.
Right click -> convert to editable text - - - > pattern overlay disappears.
But - 'Layer style' still appears in the properties, and it's on. But now when I toggle on/off, nothing changes.. Pattern is gone..
Conclusion:
From this I get to the conclusion, that I cannot convert a text layer which has a pattern overlay into editable text, and retain the pattern
I hope I'm wrong, and there is a way to retain the pattern.
Please let me know if you have a solution, or if you know for sure that my conclusion is correct..

There is always a work around, there's just no easy workaround for unsupported layer styles to editable text. The complexity of the workaround depends entirely on what you are planning to do with your 'editable text' in AE. A little more info about your project would help.

Pattern overlay not working with PS CS Extended

Hi All.
Im using CS5 extended and Im having trouble with pattern overlay. I tried to put a pattern onto a shirt but when i tick the pattern overlay It doesnt give me any option on changing the pattern. does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you

Click on the words Pattern Overlay to see the settings.
That applies to the other choices in the layer styles dialog as well.

Alien Skin Live Effects

Hi,
In my business I make heavy use of Alien Skin plug-ins.
Problem is, live effects don't work anymore. The filters from the
top pull-down menu works, but that's not a live effect.
Suddenly, making revisions to customer demands will be very
hard. Alien Skin claims this is a bug in CS3, and they can't fix
it. Is anyone aware of this, and is it being worked on?
This is really important to me, and I just have to imagine
it's important to a whole host of other people too.
Any information is appreciated.
