Live Type Background Issue

good afternoon,
I am using Live type to create text and I want to place it and some images over a background.
I have created a file in Live type, selected a background, added a company logo and have been able to view my project with Live type as I want it.
But when I save it and drop it into my bin for Final cut pro, the background does not show up.
Any thoughts on what settings in FCP I need to change, or are there certain export settings in Livetype I need to be more aware of.
thanks
MIke

FYI there are 2 methods of rendering the background in LiveType.
1) Click the Render Background Box in the LT Project Properties
2) When Rendering a QT movie click the Render Background Box
Method 1 is preferable and if you follow that process then even if you're rendering out a movie...the Render Background Box will already be checked for you.

  • Placing Background move issue - Live type

I'm having trouble with placing a background movie in live type.  I encoded a 5 second movie in HDV 1080i60... I've set my project properties to HDV1080i60 and when I place the movie in the background it squeezes it to 4:3.  Am I missing something?  Thanks for any help!
    John

Thanks Christina.  I've set my project properties to 1080i60 and encoded my video using compressor and using a Quicktime conversion.  they both output the correct file.  my canvas in LIve Type is set to the 1080i60 but when I place the movie it snaps to what looks like a 4:3 format.
When I check my project props after placement, the size switches to "custom"  but still retains the 1440 x 1080 width and height.
Thanks for your quick response to my issue by the way... I 'm still not clear as to what is happening.  I was able to use the "place" options instead of "place background movie"....my canvas stayed at the 16:9 ratio but my video was somewhat narrower.  I used the transform capabilities (the handles on the placed video) of the video and the canvas as a guide and just sized it to the right ratio.
Hope this isn't too complicated of a reply
and Thank again for the reply

  • Live Type  How do you get a transparent background?

Im trying to create just text for FCP using Live Type, but no matter what I do when I export the Live Type movie, Its exporting with a black background. I went into the settings and changed everything around and tried everything. Opacity levels, render background, etc.. I either get the color I choose or black when it should be transparent. I know there has to be a way to just creat text with no background. Much help needed!

When you render your movie, make sure you don't have the "render background" box checked.
Once your movie is rendered it is displayed with text over a black backgournd but rest assured when you put your rendered .mov text into Final Cut it will have an alpha channel and not a black background.

  • Live type files look grainy and do not fill the background when used for green screen backgrounds.

live type files look grainy and do not fill the background when used for green screen backgrounds. Ideas?

What I want to do is somehow make my entire iMovie project smaller by compressing it somehow but without losing any footage or audio or quality. At the moment the project is a 56GB iMovie project lasting approx 1hr. I have a mixture of miniDV footage, titles created in Live Type (they are better quality than anything available in iMovie) and audio.
The miniDV footage is automatically compressed when it transfers from my camcorder to my Mac, no worries there.
The LiveType titles contain a motion background (imported into LT) and then text which appears and disappears at set points. The titles vary in length but are about 5 seconds each.
The file size for the LT titles is approx 180MB per clip, the movie requires about 20 or so of these clips, making a very large file size overall.
Is there a way that I can save something in LT so that the file size is smaller yet still keep the quality and use the clip in my iMovie ?

  • Live Type Textures and Background

Does anyone know why when I import my live type titles, the background or textures do not transfer over into Final Cut Express? The fonts and the effects work, but the background does not transfer?
    Thanks for your help!

As Da Nam has pointed out you just need to check a little box next to "Render Background"
If you are Rendering a Movie then when doing so a little dialogue plate comes up and you can check the box next to "Render Background"
If you are using the Live Type project directly then the box is in your Project Properties. In this case while you are in Live Type hit cmd-zero, and when the Project Properties plate comes up check the box next to Render Background.

  • Issues Printing Live Type to Canon iPF8000s

I can not print any live type to our Canon iPF8000s.I am currently using Mountain Lion (10.8.5), InDesign CS 5.5, and Acrobat XI to make pdfs and I can not get any pdfs to print w/o first flattening them. I can't even get the page info to print unless it's outlined. I'm not sure if its bc there is no RIP or if I am having a problem similar to what I have read about on these forums that dates back to 2011 for which Apple issued a fix called SnowLeopard Font Update. But, I can not find any recent posts re: a similar problem happening these days so I was wondering if I could get some input. Shouldn't I at least be able to print the page info w/o RIP software? As far as I can tell, we have the latest driver for this printer. Any light that could be shed on this would be great. Thank you.

If you are using the UFR2 driver, then when using this Market Leader application select to print and from the print dialog, change to the Quality menu. Then select Quality Settings and then change the Graphics Mode settings from UFRII Mode to Raster Mode. OK the change and then see if this prints correctly.

  • Live type render movie issue

This goes out to you Live type gurus.  I have a 6 second animation with video.  It renders in the timeline fine but when I "render movie" the finished product only shows about half of the total project. eg it stops half way through the entire clip.  I've tried starting from scratch and it still does the same thing.  Only half of it gets rendered.  I have a full retail copy of Final Cut Studio 7.   Thanks and I hope MikeyBouchereau is listening...he answered my last post quite well.

It's actually FInal Cut Studio 3 (Final cut Pro 7), and Livetype is no longer supplied as part of the Studio package. That's what Motion is for now...
In regards to only playing half, check your in and out points.

  • FCE not seeing new Live Type files correctly... (Leopard issue?)

There appears to be a problem in LiveType and FCE as of Leopard.
LiveType files created BEFORE Leopard was installed import fine, but files created AFTER Leopard was installed will not import and return an error:
File Error. 1 File Recognized. 0 Access Denied. 1 file unknown.
Live Type files that are rendered as movies are importable and that is the workaround. But of course they cannot be edited again unless the Live Type file is reopened and re-rendered.
IOW, no import of a Live Type file directly into FCE.
Pro apps download doesn't appear to apply to FCE and you need a FCP serial # to access it anyway.
    All suggestions appreciated.

Never mind. I figured it out.

  • Live Type Render Quality

If I create just the text and export .ipr file into FCP I noticed that the letters outline look pixilated, jagged against the still background. If I import that background into Live Type and export into FCP including the background it looks perfect. Very interesting discovery.
    Is this normal?

In addition to what Big Daddy Sheffield said, could your issue be related to the fact that LiveType (as well as Motion) produce premultiplied with black alpha channels? That is, upon importing the .ipr file, you're altering the Alpha type - either in the Browser or in the Item Properties dialog - to Black, right?
By default, FCP interprets alpha as Straight and, in the case of premultiplied by black alpha channels, this produces a black fringe around your elements (which can come across as pixelated outlines). If you're the type to use black outlines on your type, this might not matter, but I figure it's worth a mention.
Or is your issue indeed beyond that?

  • DVDSP and Live Type

I have a Menu Background created in Live Type that has some text effects and a texture background. I imported the Live Type file (.ipr) to DVDSP, set it as my menu background and added a "Play Video" button. In Live Type when you "play" the file its sharp, clear and fonts are smooth. When I play the Menu created with this file in DVDSP, the fonts are all "jiggy-jaggy" in both the viewer and the simulator.
Live Type file was created with NTSC 4:3 as the preference preset
DVDSP is set at NTSC and 4:3 display mode
I am at a loss as to how to correct this so the menu will display the same in both apps. I am new to FCSPro - so bear with me if this is something simple and stupid!
iMac 24 Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Neither simple nor stupid...
Try exporting the footage out of live type as a .mov file and using that as your menu background. You can then add the 'Play' button and when the disc is built it should all get encoded to MPEG2.
I think the issue is how the live type file is being read - I have certainly been in the same position before and found that by using .mov from LT it all seemed much better.
You could also add the 'Play Video' text to the background in LT, then use a simple overlay made in photoshop to give you a button highlight (a single button on a menu will be selected by default as the menu plays, so the highlight would always show). If you do this then you can use QT to encode the background footage to MPEG2 and then use that as your menu... don't add any other items from the palette though, or else the background footage will get encoded a second time by DVDSP and look pretty bad.

  • Live Type Template not displaying correctly in FCE

I'm trying to use the "Ink Title" template from the Live Type Template Browser: File > Open Template > Template Browser.
But when I import the .ipr file into FCE 3.5.1 it comes across with a transparent background and is not showing the artwork. I set up each of the other "Ink" templates and imported them into FCE and they run fine -- with the Ink design.
Can you tell me what I might be doing that is keeping the "Ink Title" template from displaying correctly?
    Thanks.
core duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You have to go to the sequence settings in Live Type and check Render Background. Press Apple + 0 and you will see the Render Background Check box. I bet it is not checked. Hope this works. Tell me if it doesn't.

  • Media Missing in Live Type File Error Message

So I just upgraded to FCE 3.5 and have been playing around with LIve Type.
Yesterday I succeeded in making some titles with textured backgrounds etc. and getting them into FC. Today, I can still make the titles in Live Type, but when I import them into FC I get this message, in front of a purplish background, on the icon in the FC browser and when I drag the thumbnail into the viewer.
Media Missing in LIve Type File.
I have gone into project properties in Live Type and checked the "render background" box. I have also moved my media sequences above the background divider in the time line.
Nothing shows up in FCE, not even my text. But if I do a title with only text it shows up. If I include a texture and some effects, it does not show up. I just tried it with effects only and they show up. So it appears that it is a texture media problem. As soon as I open the text/effect title and add a texture, it comes up with this error in FCE.
My files for live type are on an external hard drive. it mounts fine. I can see all my titles fine in Live Type. They render fine. But don't show up in FCE.
I am working on a MacBook.
    Any help?

When I Render it it shows up, but only for a few seconds then it goes black for a few more seconds. This happens when I have my in and out points set in LT and check, render only between in and out points, it also happens when this box is not checked. So I don't get the full time of my title effect.
My problem is that I didn't have to render before, why do I have to go to the trouble to render now?
I don't have to render on my iMac, it just works there. No rendering or exporting required. ?

  • My Live Type Templates seem Corrupted

Many of the objects, effects, etc. look corrupted or simply freeze the program when selected. The corrupted files, instead of showing me a preview of the effect, have a green pixelated square over them, except for at the top its black. Not all of my effects or objects are like this though, only the majority.
Also, when I select some object categories, Live Type Freezes all together and I have to force quit.
I'm thinking I need to reinstall Livetype, but it came pre-installed with my computer and I don't remember seeing the Live Type disc... if there was one, I don't have it.
Is there another way to fix this?

I often see the green preview thumbnail, however, if I play the clip in the Finder it displays normally and the templates work in LiveType.
To your freezing issue, perhaps the description fits [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1392289&tstart=0] (it's huge, sorry). There are some possible solutions towards the end.
If you purchased Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Express, you should most certainly have the discs for it.

  • Can't import LIVE TYPE files .ipr into FCP -  FILE ERROR: UNKOWN FILE.

I have had this problem for a while and simply just worked around it. But now I am editing so much more that I want it the way it use to be.
The Problem is FCP 6 will not let me import LIVE TYPE files. I have to render them into an .mov 1st in livetype. I use to be able to just drag the file into FCP and render it there after I tweeked it. Now it won't, it gives me this error- FILE ERROR: Unknown File.
I have already uninstalled Live type along with its PLIST as well as FCP. Re installed and still keep getting the same error. I can't remember when it started, all I know is I want it fixed.
Thank you for any assistance anyone can offer.

What are the Project Properties settings? do they match the Sequence setting in FCP?
What elements are used in your LiveType composition?
Are you including images or background video?
If so, post the codec that the video uses. If there are images, the file type and color space.

  • How to add Live Type in the external editor windows?

I was just refreshing myself by one of the FCP dvds from magent media where Even Schechtman show his window of External Editors in System Settings.
I have the latest FCP version but that line which reads "Live Type" in external editor window is missing. Though he didnt discuss anything on the dvd but made me curious of my observation.
How Can I add Live Type message box which can be checked in External editor Window?
    Thanks

This is something specific to FCP4.x ... it does not appear in FCP5.x
Final Cut Pro HD: LiveType does not appear in the External Editors tab
Under some circumstances, the External Editors tab (choose Final Cut Pro HD > System Settings) in Final Cut Pro HD does not display a setting for "LiveType Movie Files."
This can happen if you installed Final Cut Pro HD from a new Final Cut Pro HD disc, as opposed to installing it from an upgrade. If you upgraded from Final Cut Pro 4 to Final Cut Pro HD, you will not have this issue. If you upgraded from an earlier version of Final Cut Pro using an upgrade disc, you will not have this issue.
You can still add LiveType files to the timeline even if LiveType does not appear in the External Editors tab. The behavior may be slightly different, depending on whether you add a LiveType project file or a LiveType movie file to the Timeline.
If you add a LiveType project file (for example, MyProject.ipr) to the Timeline and then choose to open it in an External Editor, the file will open automatically in LiveType as a LiveType project.
If you add a rendered LiveType movie file to the Timeline and then choose to open it in an External Editor, the file will open in the Editor you've selected for Video Files (in the External Editors tab) or in QuickTime Player if none is selected.
In summary, "LiveType Movie Files," only appears if you upgrade to Final Cut Pro HD from an earlier version of Final Cut Pro 4. It is not required in the External Editors beacuse a LiveType project file will automatically open in the LiveType application and a movie rendered from LiveType will automatically open in QT Player.
