Live type quick question

with live type can you view proxies without installing the additional content from the DVD CD

Yes, great feature. But it's a hassle since nothing can be rendered.

  • LIVE TYPE GRAPHICS COMING UP INTERLACED IN FCP 5

    Hi there, Somebody Help!!!
    I've got live type text that i'm exporting into FC5. When I put it on my time line it comes up blocky and interlaced. If I change my time line settinges to no fields it makes the live type text clear but then it adversely affects the footage in the time line.
    My live type project settings are the same as my FC5 settings. I've tried either rendering out the LT text as a rendered movie or just doing the quick import as a live type file.
    Does anybody please have any info, its driving me up the wall.
    Cheers

    We see similar questions often so you could try scrolling down a few months to review past posts.
    Our usual response is that you must view the final render on your target video output monitor. You cannot rely on the computer display for accurate pixel/field display since it is a low-rez and frame-only, progressive display.
    There was a bug in an earlier release that had the field setting reversed so you can always try changing that, too.

  • Apply Style or Favorites options in Live Type?

    Hello, just trying to figure out live type, and I have a question.
    I am using it to create info graphics on a dvd presentation, and I am wondering:
    Do I have to manually format each different line of text, or is there a way that I can save a set of formatting parameters (font, size, drop shadow settings, color) and apply a style to given text, or do I have to format each line every time. I looked in the manual, and searched this forum and didn't find anything helpful.
    I can't believe there isn't a way to do it, but I can't find it. Maybe saving it as a LiveType (even though there is no motion or effects)?
    Let me know what you think.
    Thanks,
    Ken

    You've got a couple choices here.
    You can always copy a text track...paste it on a new track and then change your text.
    If you have a more involved and layered graphics you could also create a template.
    To save your project as a template:
    1 Place the project file (.ipr) in a folder in this location: /Library/Application Support/
    LiveType/Templates.
    2 Generate a short QuickTime movie of the project (with the same name but an
    appropriate movie extension, such as .mov or .mp4).
    Once you do this, the template will appear in the preview window of the
    Template Browser.

  • 2 Quick Question

    Hello - I'm pretty new to Motion and have 2 quick questions:
    1) If you've got a bunch of keyframes on a timeline and want to make the entire sequence longer - is there a way to just pull the last frame out and have it automatically interpolate the keyframes in between so that it keeps the same timing and everything... it just makes the whole sequence take longer?
    2) On the same timeline with a bunch of keyframes, can you apply one long Interpolation (ala "Ease Out") to the entire thing from A-Z so that the whole sequence eases out rather than just keyframe to keyframe?
    Thanks!!
    Jason

    Heya,
    1. If you're asking if you have something like the "roving" keyframes in AE...well, kinda. Keyframes on footage, shapes, generators, particles, replicators—objects that create an image—don't seem to scale. But keyframes on secondary objects like behaviors and filters do scale.
    2. Very easy: go into the Keyframe Editor and click on the animation state icon/menu for the parameter you want to change. The icon/menu is the last column after the parameter's value in the left-hand side of the Keyframe Editor. If you pick an interpolation type in that menu, it applies it to all keyframes in that particular curve. It's also the same place where you can set the before/after extrapolation, like ping-pong, progressive, etc.

  • Quick Question: When to use ( ) and when to use [ ] and why the ( *)

    Hi all,
    A quick question that i'm sure is very simple but is slightly confusing me. I've just started trying to learn Objective-C and am a little confused by ( ) and [ ].
    I get that you use the [ ] brackets when you want something specific from an object, i.e.
    [ textField textColor ]
    and that you use ( ) brackets for things like:
    if ( x == y) {
    But I get confused when I see things like:
    NSLog(@"some text here");
    Why does that get ( ) brackets and why is it not [ ].
    Also another point of confusion, creating methods... Why are some methods done like:
    - (void)awakeFromNib
    And others done like (with the additional "*" added):
    - (NSString *)stringvalue
    As I said, I'm sure this is very simple and obvious, but it is confusing me slightly.
    Thanks in advance!

    Adam:
    As you already know, square brackets are used to send a message to an object, so if a object like myObject implements the method -doSomething, you can call it with:
    \[myObject doSomething\];
    The other use square for brackets have is to index C-style arrays, such as:
    aValue = anArray\[10\]; // Get the 10-element of an array
    However, because C-style arrays are rarely used in Cocoa applications (use NSArray instead) you will not see this situation often.
    Parenthesis in expressions are used to group and prioritize, such as:
    x = 10 * (3 + 5); // x = 80
    If () statements use it to delimit the test expression. Same with while (). for () uses it to enclose the limits and increment statements, etc.
    The other important use of parenthesis is in calling a C function:
    result = foo(3);
    means that you are calling the function named foo with the argument 3, and storing the the return value in the variable 'result'. This is different from a message because a C function is not a method of an object. They exist independently of any objects. NSLog() is a function defined within Cocoa but it is not a method. So, you call it with the traditional C function call syntax. Cocoa defines other functions like NSStringFromRect(), which takes an NSRect as argument and returns a pointer to an NSString.
    And that leads me to your last question. Some methods return simple types, like int, float, or void (i.e. returns no value). These methods will have prototypes like:
    \- \(void\)returnNothing;
    \- (int)returnInteger;
    Other methods return pointers to types, like:
    \- (int \*)returnPointerToInteger;
    \- (void \*)returnPointerToAnything; // In obj-C one typically uses id instead of void*
    Returning whole objects from methods has problems and it is better to just return a pointer (the address in memory) instead:
    \- (NSString *)makeAString;
    The method above returns a pointer to an NSString rather than the entire object.
    Good luck with your learning,
    Juan-Pablo

  • Placing Background move issue - Live type

    I'm having trouble with placing a background movie in live type.  I encoded a 5 second movie in HDV 1080i60... I've set my project properties to HDV1080i60 and when I place the movie in the background it squeezes it to 4:3.  Am I missing something?  Thanks for any help!
    John

    Thanks Christina.  I've set my project properties to 1080i60 and encoded my video using compressor and using a Quicktime conversion.  they both output the correct file.  my canvas in LIve Type is set to the 1080i60 but when I place the movie it snaps to what looks like a 4:3 format.
    When I check my project props after placement, the size switches to "custom"  but still retains the 1440 x 1080 width and height.
    Thanks for your quick response to my issue by the way... I 'm still not clear as to what is happening.  I was able to use the "place" options instead of "place background movie"....my canvas stayed at the 16:9 ratio but my video was somewhat narrower.  I used the transform capabilities (the handles on the placed video) of the video and the canvas as a guide and just sized it to the right ratio.
    Hope this isn't too complicated of a reply
    and Thank again for the reply

  • Quick question!!  Is it mandatory that I set up my DSL through the time capsule? I'd like to leave my current modem from my provider as the primary unit for networking.  So in other words can I just set up the time capsule as a back-up device for now and

    Quick question!!  Is it mandatory that I set up my time capsule as my DSL modem?  Based on the location of my iMAC right now it would be better to just leave the modem provided by my internet provider in place.  I really just want to use the time capsule as a back-up storage device for now and connnect the ethernet cable from my ISP at a later date.

    Generally it is easier to bridge the TC and plug it into the router.. it then lives on the network.. it is after all, a network drive.. and you can access it via your existing connection whether wireless or wired to the existing modem.
    If you really want a totally stand alone setup please tell me how you are presently accessing internet on the Mac you want to backup on the TC.

  • Final Express HD 3.5,  Live Type 2 rocks for web design!

    In the past I made posts about buying Adobe After Effects vs. FCE HD 3.5. Well I bought FCE HD 3.5 and I must say that I am glad and impressed. I can make web banners of any size with photo backgrounds or movies and export them to .flv ( Flash Video ) and or QT. I can export to Flash directly out of Live Type 2. Great product!
    Thought I mention the fact since these were questions I had, and came to the forums for. No complaints with the product or install. Now comes the endless creativity to include keying ( green screen ).

    Powerbook 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Maxed out!

    I have Flash 8 Pro installed so it comes up in Quicktime and Live Type 2.
    I set the banner sizes in Live Type 2 > Project Properties > Presets > Banner.
    Then I custom set the width and height. You also have to reset the settings in quicktime on export. You can do this in the custom settings profile. I have QT Pro so I do not know if regular QT has this feature. You can also set frame rates to match your flash framerate if you have to. Pretty cool.
    I'll be messing around this weekend so I will try to get a link up with a QT banner made in Live Type 2. I plan on working with QT more often. The quality is superior to Flash. Just wish Apple had a Studio version of QT so I wouldn't have to buy 3rd party software to do sprites.

  • Transitions wont place on Live type files

    I have imported a set of basic titles from Live Type in to FCP HD 4.5 and placed them in the timeline above the movie clips which are 4.3 PAL.
    When i go to place the transition which is a simple cross dissolve the transition will only get placed at the beginning of the next text clip and not in the middle as i want and is only 1 frame long.
    I have tried it with a lower third text from within FCp and it works fine.
    I have tried the usual stuff but can't seem to sort it i may be missing something simple but it all looks ok to me.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Kev

    "The only thing i didn't do was to render the clips in Live Type as i wanted to do this in FCP in case i needed to adjust the clip. Would this make any difference? "
    No... it won't make a difference. You're importing the .ipr file into FCP right? And using that on the timeline? that's the correct workflow. This enables you to 'open in editor' as you have been doing.
    Perhaps there isn't enough media (handle) on the other clip that the livetype clip is dissolving into? The only reason any transition will not extend, or be the length you want it to be is if there is not enough media on either end of the clip.
    A super quick way of checking if you have enough media is to use the Slip Tool... Press 'S' to toggle to the slip tool, then click and hold down on the clip in the timeline (be careful not to slip the clip along!). A grey 'bar' will extend beyind the end of the clip showing how much media is there. You can do this to both clips on either side of the transition as a quick test.

  • Live Type Not Responding

    Hi Sirs.
    When I try and open Livetype, after about 20sec. The Program hangs and does not respond. Any ideas.
    Thanks
    Jon

    It has worked fine. Up and till one day when I tried opening the application.
    Live Type version. 2.1
    MOSX 10.4.11
    Machine Name: Power Mac G5 Quad
    Machine Model: PowerMac11,2
    Recently up graded my quick time to 7.6
    Weary of trashing my FCP Preference systems since they mess up projects I am working with at the moment.
    Recently added 3ivx components in my qicktime library. (don't know if this does anything)
    Thanks for taking an interest in my problem.
    Hope you can help.

  • Live Type Sequence settings

    I have been able to import a Live Type title into FCP Studio 2 timeline. For it to play smoothly, FCP instructs me to change my settings but I don't want those settings for the rest of the project. How do I make the Live Type title work smoothly but keep my present settings?
    Thanks.

    I hope I have understand your issue here.
    What are the timeline settings vs the LiveType settings? I mean if FCP (i've only used FCE, not FCP) sequence timeline first clip is NTSC and the LT2 clip is PAL, then FCP would prefer that the LT2 clip be NTSC so it is politely advising so.
    See post (I hope I have undertsood your question) for how to change the Project Information in LiveType.

  • Sub-titles..??? possible with Live Type..???

    hi
    just to know how (if possible) to make sub-titles in a FCE projet using Live Type.
    If you get any help for this...!!!!
    Thanks
    Kriss / F Guiana

    I post these links to questions about subtitles and captioning.
    The two processes are related. "Free"? Probably not.
    I have never used FCE.

  • Quick question from future mac user

    Hi there.
    Just a quick question about the Intel iMacs.
    Total noob with Macs so please forgive me, I'm looking to get away from Windows and PC's but not sure what I would need exactly.
    Would the 24":3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 4GBs of RAM and 1TB hdd be more than enough to handle video/audio editing with Final Cut Pro Studio, some gaming (such as newer MMO games or RPG/FPS games) and maybe running VMware Fusion for running Windows apps and games that I have/use that are either not available or not yet supported by Apple?
    Or would I be looking at goin with the Mac Pro?
    I'd rather shoot for the iMac because I'm SO tired of PC's and boxes and would like my computer to actually look nice as well as kick butt. But I'm just worried that if I got with the iMac I won't be able to perform those functions well or at all.
    I love the look and feel of the iMac although I don't think you can get more than 4GBs of RAM or more than ONE hard drive inside (which isn't a big concern as I can always use external drives) so I'm just wondering if upgrading to the extra ram and hdd space from the get go would be a great help without having to worry about adding more later.
    I'd like to be able to just use the iMac than the Mac Pro because the price difference seems to jump up quite a bit between iMac and Mac Pro. I'm just worried if that type of iMac setup wouldn't be enough for what I need.
    Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    Janin

    The iMac in general is more than enough to perform those tasks well however the Mac Pro still has it's advantages. Lenn already went over those so take a look at these speed scores as they may help you to make your decision.

    Either way I recommend getting the base RAM configuration from Apple and purchase RAM from OWC.

  • Report Generation Toolkit Error Quick Question

    Hi,
         I created the most awesome LabVIEW report ever at my desk using a trial version of the RGT and Office 2003.  I took this to my production machine and ")@#(&%(*#^%()^!!!"  The production machine has office 2007 and a fully licensed version of the RGT.  Both machines have LabVIEW 8.6.0.  I've read all the stuff about these errors and something about classes and dll's and whatnot's.  So my quick question, is:  Instead of matching the versions of Microsoft Office as recommended, can I just rewrite from scratch the VI that creates this world's most awesome LabVIEW report on the production machine to create the same effect?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi
    Quick Answer: Probably
    Slower answer: Microsoft changed a lot of things behind the scenes in Office 2007, but the Report Generation toolkit version 1.1.3 supports Office 2007 so you should be good to go. Depends on what functions are included in your VI. Liek the read me says "Several default settings in Microsoft Office 2007 differ slightly from previous versions. Reports you generate using Office 2007 might look different than reports you generate from other versions of Office because font sizes, cell sizes, and so on, differ."
