Live Update causing system to reboot!

Hey all!
My system spec:
AthlonXP 1900+ not o/c
MSI KT3 UltraARU BIOSv5.7
Radeon 64MB DDR
WinXP pro SP2
My system was absolutely fine before I installed a Connect3D Radeon 9800 pro the other day. It never crashed, it never stopped, it was great!
But...
I put this card in and I start getting loads of problems with the screen scrambling, restarting, games crashing. The only problem which was consistent was every time I ran Live Update 3, the system would restart.
Now I assumed it was the graphics card so I took it out and put in my old Radeon, but Live Update still makes my system restart. I'm sure I've used it before and so now i'm just totally confused. Why would this happen?
Can anybody shed some light on this problem?

hmm it look like computer bent the anger on you =)... anyway there is some solution i can give you, hope it can help you, hmm
might be due to lack of power supply too,
Flash BIOS
1. compare carefully your mobo model no
2. go www.msi.com.tw, global, mainboard section]
3. search for your mainboard EXACTLY the model no.. dun b confused by the additional hardware / functions
3. after u tally that it comfirm match 100% download the online BIOS
4. And start flashing
Queries for flashing, can look on BIOS Flashing on another FORUM.

  • Live Update Causes System Stop in Win 64

On my K8N Neo 2P system with Win 64, Live Update seems to install ok.  But with RC1 version of Win 64, after the required restart, I get an infinite reboot loop as without ever getting to a stable desktop.  With RC2, I get a BSOD at the same point.  In both cases I can get the system started again by booting to Safe Mode and uninstalling Live Update.
    Anyone know a fix?

Quote from: fafner on 16-February-05, 03:56:57
Yup I can but as long as MSI live update is on the system, I get the errors when back in Normal Mode.  So if i just set it to diabled, it would serve no function.  Better to just uninstall it and look for a permanent fix.
    Thanks for your comments.
So even if it's set not to start with windows you still have trouble? I only start it manually by clicking on the desktop icon, does that cuase trouble too?

  • 10.7.4 update causes system lockup

Hello, I have Mac Pro (2006) with ATI Radeon 5770 (Apple Genuine) and 10.7.4 update causes system lockup.
I installed 10.7.4 update via software update and the update works fine.
But, after a couple of minutes, there are artfacts on display and the system locks up except for a mouse cursor or the display goes blank.
Obiously, ATI 5770 is overheating but on Windows 7, I run FurMark for an hour to see if 5770 is broken or not and no problem found.
So I reinstalled 10.7.4 (combo), reset PRAM & SMC. I found out about SMC error https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3940135?tstart=0 and replaceed AppleSMC.kext from 10.7.3 by using KextHelper but no luck.
I did clean install of 10.7.4 and everything seemed okay but the system locked up during the Setup Assistant.
I restroed the entire system (10.7.3) from Time Machine and am out of ideas. Does anybody have a simular problem?
btw, MP is upgraded to 2 quad core x5355 and to the firmware MP2.1 (2007)

    Update.
I ran Quartz Debug and disabled Quartz Extreme to see what'll happen.
No more system lock-up nor artifacts!
I reported to Apple and hope they're gonna fiz it soon.

  • KERNEL Security Update Causing System Havoc

MAY KERNEL PATCH CAUSES SYSTEM HAVOC
We regularly update our patches, including recommended kernel security patches for Solaris 10.
However, two days ago upon attempting to load the weekend Solaris 10 security patch (the latest as
of this writing), the system indicated that the install had failed. After that, it was all downhill and as
of today our main server is completely down.
Being based on a ZFS file system didn't particularly help either as it appears that whatever problem
was generated by the botched init5 installation of the Kernal Security patch got copied to the mirror
disk, because the despite the failed installation the bootarchive was "updated" before shutdown
and there didn't appear to be any way to restore from the mirror.
What few errors I could view before even rebooting failed had to do with PCI and basic boot-time
mounting. Currently, there is not even enough time for any text to appear on screen before the
    system reboots again (i.e. a reboot-loop).
It appears there is no choice in a case such as this other than to restore from a zfs snapshot and I
am not even sure that will work with no functioning kernel! I'll try it from fail-safe.
Somehow I feel I am not alone this weekend as a frustrated system administrator. What has been
most frustrating is that this was not an optional patch, but a kernel security patch which most of
    us would conscientiously add!
Anybody been here, done this? Is there a "best procedure" in this case?
Thanks for any help you can provide on restoring after a botched kernel update!
    Gunnar K. A. Njalsson
    The SPACEPOL Corporation

We switched to Windows Server 2008 Enterprise this week, partially as a result of the problem above and not having
a simple and straight-foward solution to recovering backup snapshots.
In my opinion this is a real weakness with ZFS and the Solaris operating system. It should essentially be a no-brainer
that there exist a simple file system-integrated solution that does not require all of the extra calculations, mirrors,
commands and set-ups which are currently part of Solaris and ZFS. These are valuable tools, but in the case I
mentioned above, the major problem was a false sense of security provided by all of the hype about ZFS and
    mirrors.
It only took a botched official update to copy the errors to the mirror and thereby loose our data and make
recovery a very intricate process which we did not have time to do. Windows Server provides us with a simple
interface for backing up our data and server on a separate disk at times of our choosing and with a recovery
or restore option that is intuitive and just as simple as backup.
I love Solaris and Sun and share much of the philosophy of UNIX and related tools. However, in a security-focused and
critical production environment such as ours, it's not a matter of my personal likes and dislikes; but a question of
being able to get typical system administration tasks done simply, even if they have to be left to non-computer scientists
at times. Solaris worked well for a year, but when the kernel became corrupted by an update, everything was lost.
    That's too much risk!

  • Window Update causing system lockup

I have a thousand questions on This computer.  But the immediate question.  I hope it will not take to long to get an answer on this one..  Two questions, actually.  Cause to start figuring this I really need to know these two things:
    1. How do I find out what version Bios I have on this computer, so I can know whether it actually needs the BIOS flashed.
    2.  I have had to "restore" my son's laptop type b570, twice now after installing the mandatory updates being offered by Microsoft Updates.  For Window 7, 64 Bit, home version.  Is there a freak issue that I need to know about here?!!

  • MBOX K9VGM-V after Flashing the BIOS successfully Live Update crashes system

I recently purchased a barbones computer with the K9VGM-V motherboard.  After installing all the drivers on the disk, updating Windows 2000 competely through Windows Update I decided to try Live Update.  The first thing I updated was my BIOS from Ver. 1.6 to 1.7.  The flash was completely successful.  However when I went back to Live Update(the latest version btw) the minute I executed the program my system completely crashed!  It was like I had hit the reset switch.  I decided to format my HD and reinstall everything.  The BIOS works fine and the system is entirely stable, but even after starting with a clean slate I tried the Online version of Live Update and the same thing happened.  My computer crashed and restarted itself.  This happened after the BIOS flash so it must be related to that.  I am just not sure how or why.  Any suggestions or input?

So you have crash only when trying to using LiveUpdate or? If yes just ignore it and do not use LiveUpdate

  • Webcam Live Pro causes system crash with Windows XP Home

Ever since installing Webcam Live Pro I have been having random system restarts. This ONLY happens when the webcam is being used. It happens when using the Creative Webcam Center or another application. Sometimes the restart will happen after a few minutes, and other times an hour or more. I am running Windows XP sp2 with all patches, and there are no driver conflicts listed in Device Manager. I have the cam set at 60 hz.
Even though there are no listed driver conflicts in Device Manager, there clearly is a driver conflict that occurs from time to time. I have read of other people having this same problem on this forum with Webcam Live Pro. I am using the driver ...0 which is dated 0//2004, and the automatic update program on this web site says that I am using the latest driver. But in the download section of this web site, the latest driver is listed as .0.0.0 and dated November 9, 2004. The driver numbers or dates do not match, and the driver on the web seems to have an earlier number but a later date!?
Does anyone (especially a Creative tech support person who may be reading this post) have any idea what to do? The driver version is one issue. But the big issue is the system crashes.
    Best,
    CB

Solution! I discovered the problem causing the system crash, and I think it is sufficiently interesting to note here so that others may benefit from what I discovered. First, there is no fundamental problem/conflict with the driver for Webcam Live Pro. The trouble in my instance is that I was running another program that utilized the web cam, and that program conflicted with the Webcam Live Pro program that was constantly running in the system tray. Basically, the program in the system tray is loaded with the set-up for Webcam Live Pro. It constantly monitors the computer system to see if the cam is connected to the computer. When it does this while another program is using the cam, the conflict occurs, causing the entire computer to reboot. The solution is to right mouse click the icon for Webcam Live Pro in the system tray, go to settings, and to remove the check that allows the program to check for the presence of the web cam. Just to be safe, I then also exited the Webcam Live Pro program from the system tray so that nothing from that program could interfere with my use of the webcam using another program.
The result is that the webcam is rock solid, with no system crashes. I have been running it nonstop for hours without a problem.
I hope this helps someone else.
    Best,
    CB

  • Exiting Bridge CS4 causes system to reboot.

I have been running CS4 on a Dell 3400 with Windows XP Professional for about a year with no problems.  Recently however when I exit Bridge my system reboots on it's own.  Oddly enough this does not happen when I open Bridge from within Photoshop then exit only when I open Bridge standalone.  Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestion other than don't open Bridge standalone?

No but I was going to thinking the old driver might be the problem.  I did recently add a portable USB drive I wonder if that could be the problem.

  • Security Update causing system crashing??

Hey everyone.  I installed the latest Security Update last night, and my computer hasn't been acting right since.  After being on for about 20 minutes or so, the screeens go to black, but the computer itself seems to still be on.  There doesn't seem to be any power going to the keyboard though because the caps lock button doesn't light up when I push it.  It's been going on all day, and I'm hoping maybe somone out there can shed some light on it for me.  It'd be much appreciated!  Here's the details of the crash....
I'm running 10.8.4 on an early 2008 8 core Mac Pro

That machine check with uncorrected error is almost always a RAM memory problem. Your report does not call out the specific module(s) involved.
Sometimes this information can be found if you look in the About This Mac > (More Info) > Memory system report. like this one:
If modules "drop out" they can generate an error message in the diagnostic pane. Do you have modules in Riser B DIMM 3 & 4 ?? If so, they have dropped out.
If you remove the side door after the failure, sometimes the failed modules will have the Red LED lit up next to them.

  • Manually and quickly updating smart playlists with 'Live Updating' off?

    Hi,
I have a quite large music library (13,000 songs) and use a multitude of nested smart playlists that change often because I don't want to listen to the same song every day and I want to listen to good songs more often than bad songs. I'm also splitting up by genre, because not all my friends appreciate all of my musical tastes, and I myself am not always in the mood for every genre.
The consequence of this is that from time to time, iTunes stutters when playing a new song, presumably because it's updating all the smart playlists when the previous song ended.
Now, I had hoped that turning 'Live Updating' off would cause iTunes to update the smart playlists at startup instead of updating continuously. However, it turns out that though the performance improved dramatically, turning off 'Live Updating' caused the smart playlists to never update. Obviously I don't want that, since that means all my smart playlists are static.
Is there a way to have both good performance and easy updating of the playlists? There are a bit too many playlists to manually update very day by forcing iTunes to update the playlist.
An 'Update all smart playlists now' button or a 'Update all smart playlists at startup' feature would be nice...
    Any hints, tips, help, suggestions?
    Thank you so much.
    Greetings,
    Tijl Kindt
Athlon64 3800+ 2GB RAM Windows XP iPod Nano 4GB Black

Using the SDK, you (well, I) would do something like this:
    1. Get a list of all the playlists in the iTunes Library.
    2. For each playlist, test if playlist is a Smart playlist (Playlist->Smart() returns a boolean)
2a. If it is a smart playlist, select it by setting a property value for the BrowserWindow object (basically BrowserWindow->SelectedPlaylist(playlist object)) (for example perl code, see http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.perl.misc/browse_thread/thread/1248563d 743795d8/be1a88fc6eeab0e4?lnk=gst&q=itunesperlselectedplaylist&rnum=1#be1a88fc6eeab0e4)
2b. Using keystrokes (Alt-F,G), select "File..Get Info". Then keystroke Alt-U to toggle live updating, then Enter to click OK.
2c. Repeat above, which should toggle live updating off again. (unfortunately there is no way to be sure whether the starting state was off or on -- I'm assuming it will always be off)

  • FM2-A85XMA-P33 live update issues

    Hello,
I am running win7 and after doing the live update the system wont boot anymore.
First it starts up and then i cant do anything at all.
The srceen goes blanc and i can shut off or reset the PC with the power/reset buttons and have to cut the power to shut it down.
I`ve tried it a few times but everytime the same result.
If i dont do the live update its running like it should.
Other thing is that if i try to install Win 8 or Win 8.1 the same thing happens..
If i enable the win8 feature in the BIOS i only get the shell if i restart the pc and cant install Win8.
    Maybe a partition issue.
    Any ideas?
    Vincent

Stop using Live Update! It likes to brick boards.

  • Live Updating mangles smart playlist sync - again and forever?

For the last several itunes updates, setting a smart playlist to Live Update causes the order of playlist items to become mangled on synced deviceL
Unchecking the Live Updating restores the proper order to the items on the synced device.
Its a huge pain if you desire to set up podcast play order on your iphone so you don't have to play DJ in your car.
It was a problem a long time ago, and there was a kludgy workaround. Then they fixed it. And 2 versions of iTunes later it came back, and the workaround didn't work that time. It now appears to be a permanent bug, and apparently nobody cares at Apple.
Here's a wonderful example of how longstanding this bug is:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11396625#11396625
This one is even more pathetic, going back to 2009:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/10168181#10168181
There are many, many, other threads complaining about this issue so I've lost faith that Apple will care or try to fix it.
There has always been the occasional bug or error with Apple hardware/software; nobody's perfect - but they used to make an effort to fix things in a timely manner. At least they used to think the perception of attention to detail was important for marketing purposes.
Now, they are apparently content to Pareto Principle their products becuase they have the mass sales and a giant customer base that will accept 'just good enough' products.
So sad to see the decline of such a once great company.

FYI, I've found that Live Updating can SORT OF work. It seems if you only have two rules, live upating works (IE, I have one that is a Rating must be 3-5*'s and last played cannot be within the last 8 weeks). Once the song is played it disapears off the playlist. BUT, as soon as I try to add a third rule, it doesn't work anymore! This is unfortunate because two rules really limits the ability of the playlist...
    Cheers,

  • BIG PROBLEM after Live Update installed

I installed the live update and now my system has crashed!
During my initial set up of this system I was having overheating issues. I stopped this by selecting the Advanced preset setting in the BIOS.
Well after installing the Live update the system restarted and installed the recommended updates for the mobo. I once again restarted the system only to have it shut doen within 30 - 40 seconds (never even got Windows to completely boot). I tried several times with the same outcome. I then remembered the over heating issue I had during the build. I looked back here to see how I solved the problem. I tried to preform the same steps I took earlier (going into BIOS and setting the advanced preset) each time being shut down before being able to accomplish the task. I am now left with a stone cold quiet system! I get the power switch to light up on the case and 2 of the LED's on the board turm blue. I have tried the mobo power button and the reset button with no luck!
    Thoughts?

Why you didn't tell this until now?
You tell that you've installed Live Update, not mention that you've proceed with BIOS update too...
Repeat again >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed,
and leave 1 memory stick in 1st dimm, then try to boot
My apologies, you are correct. In the Live updates, BIOS was among the items to be updated.
I already tried the clear CMOS excatly as indicated in the link/video.

  • Live Update reboots my system.

Installed Live Update3 on my perfectly working computer. Then serious problems occurred. I use Win XP and the mainboard is a 645 Combo.
The system boots but when I log on as an Administrator it reboots over and over again.
If log on as a guest I get messages saying "Can't find handle" and something about boot upgrade. But then it works all right and I can use the computer.
I think it has something to do with Live Update log on autosearch, but I don't know how to diable it, as I can't log on as an Administreator.
    Help me!

    Thanks Emperor for answering.
I can log in as Administrator but it is then the rebooting takes place. Windows XPstarts normally. The desktop, startmeny and taskbar appears but before I can use it the system reboots. This happens every time I try to log on.
If I instead log on as Guest Windows starts normally but messagewindows appear, referring to that Live Update has failed. As I use Swedish and I don't know how to translate it properly into English it is difficult for me to explain better. The good think is that I can use the computer but in a restricted way. I am not able to uninstall Live Update. That is what I want to do.
Do you think there is a way to halt Live Update when login on as Administrator?

  • Updating iPod from iTunes sporadically causes system reboot

This one is driving me slowly crazy, so help is appreciated.
I'm running version 6.0.4.2 of iTunes and iPod updater 2006-03-23 on a Windows XP Media Center PC with a 20 gig iPod Photo. Have been blissfully using iPod and iTunes for months with zero issues with regular updates when prompted.
Over the last couple of weeks, my computer is sporadically rebooting in the middle of an iPod update. This usually happens in the following sequence:
    1. Open iTunes
    2. Connect iPod
    4. Automatic update happens
    5. Make some changes in iTunes, such as downloading new podcasts
    6. Update iPod manually using File, Update iPod
    VOILA! Reboot.
It doesn't always happen on the manual update. Sometimes, it happens with the automatic update (although less often). Every once in a while the manual update goes through just fine.
After this started happening, I thought long and hard about any system changes and had installed a new DVD/CD burner program, so I removed it, rebooted, reset the iPod, updated both iTunes and the iPod updater. Just for good measure I ran a full virus scan and AdAware to get rid of any unknown nasties.
Well, it's still happening and I am stumped and annoyed. Any ideas on what I might be able to do here?
    Thanks a lot!

    Windows XP

    hi Heather!
are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
    love, b
