Live Update Online

One of the main reasons I bought this MSI Motherboard (790FX-GD70), was because of the "Simple" bios update procedure.  MSI still has the live update on-line on their site advertising like it's a great thing.
Is MSI doing false advertising?  Is the newest version any better?
I have not tried to use it yet since reading all the problems here.  I know you don't have to flash your bios, but why not have the latest one?  I am having some memory problems and thought maybe the latest bios would help.
What is the real answer?  Anyone know?  If I contact MSI are they going to tell me their Live Update On-line works well?
Anyway, thanks for listening.

Yes, I have been to the OCZ web site and have tried many different suggested settings.  Last night my system froze in BIOS. Had to reboot and set like for the first time.  This morning BSOD right after POST.
Did a memtest last night-no errors.  Did a checkdisk test-no errors.
Currently have the 8GB (4x2) AMD Black Edition memory modules set at 8-8-8-24-2t.
Any ideas?

Conclusion
12 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is really responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.

  • 845 ULTRA Ver:1 Mainboard, Live Update Online, USB 2.0 problems

I have a MSI 845 ULTRA ver:1 mainboard (actually have 6 of them.)  I installed a USB 2.0 5 port hub and connected a 250gb external harddrive.  The system reports an I/O device error.  Any ideas on how to solve ?
The current BIOS is AMI 1.50a.  I tried using the "Live Update Online" but only got as far as the "Now Loading" screen.  Anyone know how to get past this point ?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Try not to use MSI Live Update.  It is not the best Tool that was ever released and too many users have already messed up their systems (bad flashes, wrong BIOS) using MSI LU.  If it starts behaving strange before you even get to the point of actually flashing a new BIOS Version, you should not hesitate to stay away from it.
Do it the "DOS-way" and use a floppy or a bootable USB-stick.

  • Msi live update/live update online vista x64 help

i have a MSI K9A2 CF-F Socket AM2+ 790X motherboard with a phenom 8450 and want to update the bios, aside from using a windows 98/me boot disc the only other option is live update/live update online, i am having countless errors and pop up boxes when trying to use either of these and am getting rather frustrated, i get everything from mmio errors to runtime errors and wondows randomly shutting down because of a conflict with uac, if anyone has used these or knows how i can update the bios in vista x64 i would be really grateful

Never ever use live update! Although MSI still offers that tool running a live update tool and upgrading an online bios is considered very risky. We have countless issues with live update. Problem is that any windows issue while updating could kill your board. In addition most live update applications won't work in vista64 because it restricts bios access for apps except those optimized for vista64.
Updating with a win98 boot disc/disk is still the safest way. Also you can use the forum's amazing usb flash tool which is very safe: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=108079.0

  • Has Live Update EVER worked? Trying to download "AMD Chipset Drivers" 970A-G46

I just installed W8 clean, added 8.1, all the updates, and installed Live Update fresh to see if i actually works this time around.
I see that apparently it still is a piece of crap software.
Never have I found this program to take less than several hours / entire day to download something that I allegedly need. It will tell me my BIOS is up to date yet when I go to the MB page and compare the version from BIOS and Live Update, there IS a newer version there (heck it is up to 2.6 and I had a v 1.0B using Windows 7). Even after flashing with USB to 2.6, LU5 is still showing my BIOS version as 1.B0.
I just wound up manually downloading the internet, realtek audio, and usb drivers then installing them myself.
The only file that is missing from the MB page is what Live Update is telling me as "Not Installed": MB Driver /AMD Chipset Drivers/(current version) Not Installed/(online version) 13.101.0.0
I have been waiting at least 30 minutes downloading this file through LU5 which is only at 27%.
Is this even needed? Is the MB page THE DEFINITIVE page for downloads and should I just uninstall LU?

Well, it is an AMD based board, not Intel. Shouldn't the board manufacturer supply the drivers for their own board?
p.s....after letting the one file download for over an hour, there is a corrupt file in it /rolls eyes...I also can't find drivers for an ATI based MB on the AMD website. The only selections for drivers are for graphics cards.
So you didn't get a disk with your motherboard?
Yes, MSI will provide drivers for your motherboard off of their website, or with the disk that came with your motherboard. You had mentioned the newest drivers...the newest drivers will always come from the chip manufacture...ie AMD, Intel, Nvidia, etc.
AMD no longer has a specified chipset driver to the best of my knowledge. They have Catalyst...it pretty much takes care of everything.

  • MSI Live Update and X1950Pro

    Hi all.
I'm still having problems with getting my X1950Pro to run without crashing on 3D games, but mainly World of Warcraft. Have tried many different things, such as using different graphics drivers and upgrading my RAM, which I did yesterday. But I'm still stuck. ATM, I'm back to using my friends NVidia 6600GT  :( until I can find a feasible solution.
Somebody suggested checking my mobo drivers, so I ran Live Update last night and it came up with quite a few updates.
I'll list the ones that I think are relevant and I do realise that once the x1950 is back in, the updates for the VGA Drivers will change. I must apologise for the large amount of space that I'm about to use up, but I'm really getting frustrated at buying a card that I can't use for the purpose that I bought it for
    Here goes:
1xupdate Driver - nForce System Drivers current ver.2.78  online ver.3.75
13xupdateVGA - on all updates, current ver "unknown".
9xupdates are for different NVidia cards, so I shall ignore them until I put ATI card back in.
4xupdates are all "for all of MSI VGA cards"
    2xupdate Utility - iSpeeder - not installed   online ver.1.2
infoview XP - not installed   online ver.1.750 - 1.Fixed VGA info error
                                                                                           2. Fixed AGP rate error on WinXP
I hope I've made this understandable. Can anyone see anything here that may sort out my troubles?

Thanks very much for your replies.
Max cpu temp under load I've seen is around 47C. When the x1950 manages to run WoW, I haven't seen it go higher than 70C. It generally stays in the low 60Cs.
Your link doesn't work for me Fredrik  :(
Aaron, I believe your kind link is to lead me to the ATI drivers. I have the latest ATI drivers installed (I've put the x1950 back in again). I was just wondering if there could be some conflict between my mobo and the x1950. and maybe a bios or chipset update.
I completely purged all the drivers with Drivercleaner. Didn't realise that the Drivercleaner I had been using was a very old version, so I bought the latest version. Hopefully this may be what my problem has been, because the next logical step I think, would be to format  or buy a more powerful PSU although my current PSU is supposed to be powerful enough.
I haven't tried WoW yet, because I'll be really sad if this hasn't worked.
I've just found that my graphic card is sharing the same IRQ as my soundcard. I've got a feeling that this is bad.......don't know why and I don't know how to change it if it is bad.

  • Updated sound drivers, but Live Update still shows I have older version?

I updated my onboard sound card drivers last night, and I came back to msi live to make sure, and it says that I am still on version 5.10.00.5420, while the online version is 5.10.00.5560...this is how it was last night before I updated..

MSI Live update has a new version out, 3.6. Note #4
Found this in the following thread: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=52456&sid= .  Might solve the problem.

    Hey there.
Last night i decided to update my laptop with the newest drivers, so i launched Live Update and got startet.
When it was done with all of the updates, and had rebooted, both S-Bar and KLM wouldn't start. I clicked the button to have windows try and fix it online, but it didn't help.
After that i tried to update them to the newest version, and that didn't help either.
Is this a know issue, or am i just unlucky? Can it maby be solved with installing Win8, as im doing that in a few days from now?

Make sure you have installed also NET Framework before you use KLM and S-Bar and I really don't recommend to use Live Update, if you want to update your drivers to the latest just go to the manufacurer's website in download section. Don't forget to choose your version of windows before downloading!

but when visit the MSI webpage (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=154) the last driver is:
Nvidia driver 45.32 for Win2000/WinXP/Server2003 OS
and in the Nvidia webpage is 50.16.....
and the same happend with the VGA Bios...
y fix my vga cad update the VGA bios....but...this update don't show in the Live Update 3
    How fix it???
    thanks

Do not update the VGA BIOS unless you have a good reason to. It is not like a motherboard.
Go to  nVidia Drivers if you want the latest drivers.
Live Update may not have been updated OR the version reported by the Live Update utility has been tested successfully with that card. Newer drivers sometimes cause problems with older cards. The only way to know for sure is got to the nVidia site and try the latest.

  • Cannot Post After Live Update of BIOS

System: MSI K8NGM2-FID, 4 gig Corsair, AMD 4400 X2, EVGA 7800GT, 4 Seagate 160 SATA II drives in RAID 0, HP 740vi, Sony floppy, CoolerMaster 810 Stacker case, PS Power & Cooling Turbo 510/SLI.
I just assembled the system. It POSTed fine. I installed Windows XP (SP 2), NAV 2006, Linksys USB network card, MSI LiveUpdate. I updated the BIOS 3.0 to 3.1 using Windows through the Live Update and making a rescue disk. Nothing remarkable about the update. System will not POST i.e. nothing shows up on the screen although the lights on the Corsair memory go through the appropriate cycle and the keyboard lights shine as usual. Attempted to restore from rescue—can get the disk read using control home: still no POST. Same result after using the BIOS reset switch on the board.
I get no automated to my message to MSI online tech support.
    What can I do?

try shutting off, disconnecting the power cord, removing the CMOS battery, tap the power button a few times to discharge any residual power, then leave the battery out for a couple of minutes, before refitting it, then reconnect the power cable, power back on, enter BIOS setup and re-enter BIOS settings

Do you have problems with the board?
    If not, don't flash.
    I have seen the sticky
I dont have any problems with the board, but i also think that there is a reason why bios updates are released.
I think that, normally the newer bios have more options etc..... just my opinion.
Perhaps it is also because boards like asus and gigabyte are so easy to update and switch back, if you preffer a older bios.
I flashed my older K9N platinium with AFUD.....is that possible with this board?

I recently purchased a barbones computer with the K9VGM-V motherboard.  After installing all the drivers on the disk, updating Windows 2000 competely through Windows Update I decided to try Live Update.  The first thing I updated was my BIOS from Ver. 1.6 to 1.7.  The flash was completely successful.  However when I went back to Live Update(the latest version btw) the minute I executed the program my system completely crashed!  It was like I had hit the reset switch.  I decided to format my HD and reinstall everything.  The BIOS works fine and the system is entirely stable, but even after starting with a clean slate I tried the Online version of Live Update and the same thing happened.  My computer crashed and restarted itself.  This happened after the BIOS flash so it must be related to that.  I am just not sure how or why.  Any suggestions or input?

So you have crash only when trying to using LiveUpdate or? If yes just ignore it and do not use LiveUpdate

  • [915 Series] Problem with Live Update 3

I'm having a problem installing MSI's Live Update 3 on my PC.  Everytime I install it and reboot the PC, the following happens: boot-up will progress normally through POST, the Windows XP Splash screen, the Welcome Screen, up through the initial load-up of my Windows desktop.  But before all the system tray icons finish loading in the taskbar, I will get a blue screen of death and the PC spontaneously reboots, and the cycle will continue infinitely.  I know that it is definitely the Live Update software that is causing this, because A) I can boot up into safe mode and the error does not occur until I try to manually start the Live Update software B) the error stops occuring if I (in safe mode) initiate a System Restore and go back before the point where Live Update was installed.  I would like to be able to use my Live Update software if possible, but I can't get beyond this system crash with it installed.  Any suggestions?

Rename or delete the ntaccess.sys file in \Program Files\MSI\Live Update 3. You will get a error when you run Live Update or Live Monitor about a service not started but just keep clicking OK and it seems to work, although I only download the files and canceled the installation. For online Live Update I think you'll find the file in \Windows\System32. Good luck.
