Live view in CS4

I have recently started using CS4 and seen the video that
came with it about how it works.
My CS4 doesn't do the same, when I have a page open, click on
'Live View' shows the page with all links working, but only shows
the page without any CSS styling? It's probably one of the settings
somewhere that needs changing, but I don't seem to be able to find
it; I thought that 'out of the box' this new feature would be on by
'Default'?

Sure you can. Do you have SSI enabled in your PREFERENCES |
Invisible
Elements? Do your include files (not the parent files)
contain <html>,
<head>, or <body> tags?

There is only a "below" for those using the webforums. Those
of us
connecting with a newsreader do not see a 'below' - we only
see a 'no longer
in the scroll of headers downloaded'! Bearing in mind that
most of the
answers come from the newsreader crowd, it never hurts to be
explicit with
your replies (as you have done). This is only one of the good
reasons to
hate the webforums!
I have found your thread from November - I'll reply there.

  • Fonts not displayed correctly in Live View Dreamweaver CS4

I have a site that uses the Nuptial Script font.   Everything is displayed correctly in Design View and in IE and FireFox.
But LiveView does not display the font correctly; in fact, the text with Nuptial Script is not readable in LIveView.    If I change the font from Nuptial Script to Arial (yuck) as a test, LiveVIew displays the pages correctly.   Other fonts like Vivaldi work in LIveVIew.  Nuptial Script does not work in LIveVIew.

This is display correctly for you in any browser because you have the font installed on your system.  As far as I know, I don't have that script, so your page would not render as intended if I viewed it in either FFox or IE.
You need to set up a font-family when defining a non-web-safe font, so that if someone doesn't have your first choice of font, they'll be able to see it in another of your choosing  (but needs to be web-safe).

On my notebook live view in CS4 results in displaying blank
    pages.
although there are some pages that work (no idea why, coding

Any idea how to sort out the problem?

  • Can't see the widget in Live view in Dreamweaver CS4 for Mac

    Hi
    Following this example in http://www.truveo.com/Web-Widgets-in-Dreamweaver-CS4/id/180144024212823976
from Scott Fegette to place a YUI Calendar inside a project in Dreamweaver CS4. I see that Scott after placing the YUI_Calendar.mxp they got the calendar in Live view mode and I can't do the same, can't see in Live View, only a blank page.
I follow all the Scott's instructions correctly because the code is there and I can see the calendar in the browser but not in Live View... If I turn off the Live View then can see the YUI Calendar in Design View only (a light blue tag named YUI_calendar).
    I'm under Mac OS X 10.5.6.
Can you help me to see the YUI Calendar in Live View?
    Thanks.

  • Setting up Dreamweaver CS4 with PHP testing server... Live View doesnt work

    Hello,
Im trying to setup Dreamweaver CS4 with a php website im
making. Ive setup the site information, and provided a testing site
(XAMPP), and i can see the fully rendered .php pages in the Live
View tab. However, say i change some of the text in the .php file
(say from <p>Hello</p> to <p>Hi</p>) and
then click in the Live View tab - the page does not update. It
seems to do something, bit just returns the same.
How do i set it up so, like with plain .html pages, you can
make a change to the source code and instantly see the change in
    Live View?
(At the moment i have to make the change to the source code,
save it, click Live View to cancel it, and then click Live View
    again).
    Background:
    Ive setup XAMPP (G:\XAMPP\)
    Ive setup vhosts in apache.
Ive stored my websites in G:\Websites
Ive set the testing server to G:\Websites\site, where "site"
is setup as a vhost and correctly displays when entered into a
    browser.
Ive set the url prefix to
    http://site/
Ive set local root to G:\Websites\site
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers.

Did you try using F5 to refresh the page? If that doesn't
    work for you,
then you'll have to drop and restart Live view. No need to
    save and reload
    the page.

  • DW CS4 Live View Not Working

I have migrated within a week of buying DW CS3 to DW CS4 and
have been spending the last 24 hours or so watching the excellent
    videos on lynda.com for CS4.
I then decided to take the plunge and start producing my own
content. The first thing I wanted to see was how to drag and drop
an Excel file into an HTML page.
Firstly, DW seemed to generate a file link only without
presenting me with a dialogue box to let me choose what I wanted to
    do.
Secondly when I then tried to switch to Live View I was faced
    with the message that
Live View needs Netscape/Firefox Flash Plugin
I have searched Help and the Adobe site for this plug in but
have got nowhere ... can anyone please save me a load of time and
heartache and tell me what I need to do?
I thought it might be an Excel problem so I tried to do the
same with a Word file and faced the same problem.
    Thanks for your attention!

You can't. To import the content of an Excel file, select
    File > Import
    > Excel Document. Warning: it doesn't work very well. You
    get only the
worksheet that was open when the Excel file was last closed.
    You also
frequently get a lot of empty cells at the bottom. It's much
    better to
    copy and paste from Excel.

Same answer. You can't drag and drop Word into an HTML page.
    Select File
    > Import > Word Document. This works much better than
    Excel.

  • Live View CS4 vs Live Data View CS3

In DW CS3 I was able to edit php pages in Design View with
Live Data View turned on. Without it the page did not display
properly. This made life easy adding content to clients web pages
(the main stay of maintaining web sites).
With DW CS4 this functionality appears to have been removed
or perhaps I just cannot work out how to get it.
Adding lots of content in code view is a pain - can anyone
tell me if and why this has changed and has DW become a tool for
fanciful coding at the cost of being the workhorse it used to
    be?

To access Live Data view in CS4, select View > Live Data

  • Twitter Bootstrap not displaying correctly in Live View in DW CS4

I am having a problem with Twitter Bootstrap templates not displaying correctly in Live View in Dreamweaver CS4. They look more correct with Live View turned off than on. When I turn Live View on, it looks as if it's not finding a style sheet or something, but they are all href'ed properly. Is there a way to fix this?

    Hi kooshetty,
Did you preview the site in various browsers and check the display? You are using an older version of DW, and I am not sure if the Webkit engine supports bootstrap code.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Live View - background-image does not display

I'm teaching a basic Dreamweaver CS4 class, and one of my students happened upon a unique problem.
Although the students were not required to use LiveView for their assignment, the student noticed that when he clicked the LiveView button to look at his assignment, that the background-image property that he set on the #header DIV does not display.
I tried duplicating his problem by building a similar site to his, using the exact same Dreamweaver Starter Page he used, but I'm not able to reproduce it the problem. If I define a new site using the files the student sent me, the problem comes back.
I'm completely stumped. What could possibly be causing the background-image CSS property to stop rendering in Live View?
Thanks for any help at all!

    Hi
Check your students css code for invalid or missing mark-up, or linking to the background image. Another possible problem, (occurs on some sites but not all) is to check if the url is enclosed in quotes as these are occasionally required but not always, also check for spaces in file names
    e.g. - background-image: url(../images/yourimage.jpg); should work but occasional requires quotes as in - background-image: url("../images/yourimage.jpg");

  • CS4 Live View Won't Display External CSS

I have a simple .html file - all located on my local machine
with an external .css file located in the same folder as the .html
file. Everything displays fine in a browser. Live View won't
display items in my external css file. It displays items in the

file they will appear. Links are relative to the Document in the
site setup. No default images folder defined (images are in a

  • CS4 -new interface oddities... Live view and others MAC

Hi folks, I'm running into a few small problems and not sure
    where the
buttons are now to fix it.
One, the live view apparently is using Print CSS instead of
    my screen css
and I can't figure out how to fix it. The screen css is
    checked in the
rendering box, but I'm still getting a print layout... (is
    there a way to
get those icons back like they were in CS3 where you select
    the buttons for
    rendering styles? )
Two, although the related CSS files will update and show the
    asterisk when
modifying them in the main page's CSS panel, you cannot
    select the related
file name in the bar across the top and press upload.
    Apparently you have to
open it as a separate file to upload it??
Three, sometimes the pages' top bar opens beneath the search
    bar, or
whatever you call that full width bar across the top of the
    window, and
because you cannot access the top of the open page, you
    cannot grab and move
it. It is mostly annoying. Is there another way to grab and
    move. This
problem isn't limited to DW, it exists also in Photoshop...

The Style Rendering toolbar is off by default. You can turn
    it on here:
    View > Toolbars
The Style Rendering settings do not affect Live View. It's
    always
"screen". Live View uses the WebKit rendering engine that's
    used in
Safari: does your page look different from Safari? Note that
    there's a
Windows beta version of Safari available from apple.com if
    you don't
    have a Mac.

    Apparently you have to
    > open it as a separate file to upload it??
Correct. Another way to do it is, when focus is in the
    Related File you
want to upload, use Site > Locate in Site, and then upload
    from the
    Files Panel.

Yeah, that's annoying. You can dock the Application Bar to
    the top of
    the screen to prevent that.

  • DW CS4 - Design/Live view not available with PHP

I am working with PHP documents but both Live View and Design View are grey and unavailable with PHP documants open. I am using MAMP and have set up local info and testing server in the site set up dialog several times myself and with the help of some web search with no difference. Any thoughts on what may be some things to check would be greatly appreciated.

Have you changed your preferences to open PHP pages in Code view?
In the File Types/Editors category of Preferences, if you add .php to the list of file name extensions in "Open in code view", it disables Design view and Live View for that type of file.
I can not believe I searched for over 30 minutes to find out that adding .php to this field; disables one of the ONLY reasons I purchased CS5.
Just for giggles, why would it be designed like this? "Open in code View" = a prefrence to what screen type you see, not, "I want to disable CS5 to pre CS2 version"...
Well, just my two cents.  Now that I know, I will never do that again... So, Next question.  Is there a way to make Dreamweaver by default open in code view, without setting the tempting box to do it for you?
Thanks ahead of time. By the way, I am greatful that someone has the answers! and I am glad that person is you sir = Enter the Adobe Expert.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Live View

When I view my layout in Live View, it shows as it should, but does not show in either FF or IE correctly. Anyone know why that happens?

    Hi
You are not going to like this, but, the simplest way is to go back to using 'normal' css layout methods, (float etc,) for everything. Remember you would have to do this in an alternative css style sheet for IE6/7 anyway, and as they combined still have 20%-25% of the browser market share they cannot be ignored.
Using the css display tables is still unfortunately 2-4 years away.
I did say you would not like the answer .

  • Live View not working in Dreamweaver CC 2014

I just installed the new 2014 version and opened the index file of an existing website design. When I click on the live view all I get is blank white screen. I thought it was a time issue and waited for a long time but nothing. I opened other files as well and still just a blank white screen. The installation was done through Creative Cloud as I have a subscription. Is there anything  that can fix this? there seems to be some know issues but I didn't find this one among them and perhaps this needs t be added to it if there are others with the same problem.
I am using an iMac with Maverick OS latest version.
    Thank you

    Hi iraji,
Can you try the solution in this post and let us know if it helped?
Just upgraded to CC 2014. In Live View the window is blank. Was fine in previous CC.
