Livecycle Designer ES 8.2 and Preferences Folder

Hello all,
the question I'm asking here is actually related to a different issue, so I'll give the whole context.
I have issues with image fields in Livecycle Designer, no matter if I use the one that comes with Acrobat Pro 8.0 or 9.0.  Image fields have at least one bug:  The anchor position in the layout is ignored, the image is *always* anchored top middle.  In version 8.0, the picture was always scaled to fill the rectangle, causing a skewed aspect ratio, no matter what scaling option was selected.
After talking for more than 1 hour to the Adobe customer support, I was told to see if the Preferences folder was there (not sure what this has to do with the image field issue, but whatever).  It's supposed to reside in C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\9.0 and is supposed to contain 2 folders and 1 file.  Oh yeah, I'm driving Windoze XP ...  For my user, I do not see the preferences folder at all, other users that log in to my coputer, the preferences folder exists, but is empty.  I tried uninstalling Acrobat Pro and re-installing as local admin as suggested by customer service, but still no preference folder.
My question is:  What could be the reason for not having the preferences folder?
Thanks and Cheers
Markus

  • Adobe LiveCycle Designer and Office 2010

    Hi guys,
    I'm using Adobe LiveCycle Designer (version 9 / ES2). I try to open a MS Word file, but I receive an error message.
    Word (version XP or higher) cannot be found on the machine.
    OS: Windows 7 Enterprise
    Office: 2010
    I read that the version 8.2 of LiveCycle Designer doesn't work with Office 2007 and higher. In this constellation the same error message appears. Is it the same problem on my side? How can I solve it?
    Many Thanks,
    untalentiert

    I'm running Win XP using Parallels 8... LiveCycle Designer is WIndows only and Acrobat XI will only import hyperlinks correctly from Windows versions of Office - which is why I use Office on both the Mac and Windows side, as well as Acrobat XI on both platforms. You can't use the Office plug-ins for Office using LibreOffice (or even Office 2011 for Mac) hence the need to open docs in Word on the Windows side instead of the Mac side.
    What I'm confused by is the pricing difference between the packages - I guessing that the $163 package is the 'full retail' and not an OEM or anything - but I don't know if an OEM would even work under a VM with Parallels...
    So I may end up with the full retail version, although I'd like to save the $70 difference if I can!
    Thanks,
    Clinton

  • How to give reader extensions to a form created with LiveCycle designer

    Hello,
    I make forms with "Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES 8.1" and then I give them somes rights.
    I use the link http://172.16.1.35:8080/ReaderExtensions/index to give my forms rights, like (Basic form filling, Import and export form data, Submit outside web browser, Digital Signatures)
    Since 2 weeks, this link doesn't work. I called Adobe Belgium and give them my licence key and they couldn't help me becasue they sayed that it's an old application.
    Can someone help me please, it's an emergency.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
    Why do you need to change the connection string? What are you calling "connection string for a form"???
    The only connection string I now about is the one used to connect to the UI API... and this one is fixed for all apps in debug mode and given as parameter when your addon is registered in B1.
    The connection string is filled in the code of your generated addon.
    Please go to the main class of your addon, in the main method you have the following code where the connection string is filled either with the command line parameters (release mode) or with the fixed value given by SAP. This code doesn't need to be changed...
            public static void Main()
                int retCode = 0;
                string connStr = "";
                bool diRequired = true;
                // CHANGE ADDON IDENTIFIER BEFORE RELEASING TO CUSTOMER (Solution Identifier)
                string addOnIdentifierStr = "";
                if ((System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs().Length == 1)) {
                    connStr = B1Connections.connStr;
                else {
                    connStr = System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs().GetValue(1).ToString();
                try {
                    // INIT CONNECTIONS
                    retCode = B1Connections.Init(connStr, addOnIdentifierStr, diRequired);

  • What is the best upgrade path from LiveCycle Designer 8.0?

    Back in June 2010, I developed a website for a client which included some interactive forms created with LiveCycle Designer 8.0 (came with Adobe CS3.) He recently brought to my attention the fact that the data filled in by his customers on the forms does not display in PDF docs on his iPhone or Android smartphone (the PDFs and filled-in data display fine via desktop browsers.) Can anyone suggest the best (least expensive, least painful... I don't want to rewrite his site in HTML5) solution? E.g., upgrade my LiveCycle Designer 8.0 version and reinstall the forms on his site? Would that be to Acrobat X Pro? Does a second set of forms need to be created for mobile format? Suggestions would be appreciated. Here is his web page with links to the existing 3 forms. Thanks. -Bob C.

    Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it. Since my post, I noticed that Adobe offers free apps for iOS and android devices "to view and work with PDF files." Called: Adobe Reader X for mobile. Any idea whether these apps would resolve the issue described above? (Filled-in data on forms created on desktops not displaying on mobile devices?) Unfortunately, I don't have an android device to test with and my iPhone hardware is not current enough to load the ios app. -Thank you.

  • List of new features, changes, and improvements from Designer ES2 to ES3 and then ES3 to ES4

    I have been scouring the Adobe website and even contacted customer service for a list of all the changes made from Livecycle Designer ES2 to ES3 and then ES3 to ES4 with no luck.  It seems like something basic that would be available.  I am currently using ES2 and need to know if anything was changed or added to ES3 and then ES4 to see if it is worth the cost of upgrading.  I do not use any of the other components of Livecycle and pretty much all the information on the Adobe website always goes back to those programs or how Designer works with those programs and it does not apply to me.
    It is frustrating because it seems like Designer is an neglected stepchild of the ES Suite.

  • Adobe Livecycle Designer 7.0 vs 7.1

    Hi
    I have two systems one with Adobe Livecycle Designer 7.0 and the other with 7.1
    And I am working on the same form from both these systems. Should that be any cause for concern ?
    What are the differences in the two releases that I should be aware of ?
    Pushpraj

    You´d better have all computers/ developers working with the same designer, but that is just a precaution, I have never experienced any serious problem when moving between versions.
    By the way, if I could recommend you a GREAT improvement, please check the notes:
    Note 1121176 - Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8.0 - Installation
    Note 1253121 - Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8.0 - Patch
    Note 1176858 - Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8.1 Installation
    and... install the 8.1 because it is a GREAT leap forward in a comfort for a developer. Please try and enjoy, that is my best advise you can get. Hopefully that will help you and please you, regards Otto

  • Is it too much to ask that a Mac user can just OPEN and USE a PDF form created by LiveCycle Designer PC software?!?

    My problem is just that- I have created all my forms using LiveCycle Designer because it is easier to make the forms accessible to individuals with disabilities.  Apparently it doesn't make Mac users have access to the forms.  I've received complaints from Mac users that cannot complete or submit the forms that I created.  I'm not asking how to recreate using another software, I know how to do that.  I'm asking is there a work around to allow a Mac user to open a PDF form or even XML (bedded within an HTML page) on a Mac computer WITHOUT having to use bootcamp, parallels, etc. and be able to complete the form and submit, print or email it?????  I've exhausted all my knowledge on this thus far and I'm hoping to find something that will help.  So far all forums talk about how Mac users need to have a PC side to their computer.  Isn't there another way?
    I've attached an example form that we are no longer using (though still created exactly the same as the others)
    Thanks!

    Hi, as far as I can infer, that term means it's not loading any resources until needed, opposite of this...
    -bind_at_load
                     Sets a bit in the mach header of the resulting binary which tells dyld to bind all symbols                when the binary is loaded, rather than lazily.
    https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/ man1/ld.1.html
    Load resources lazily.
    You should never load a resource file until it is actually needed. Prefetching resource files may seem like a way to save time, but this practice actually slows down your app right away. In addition, if you end up not using the resource, loading it wastes memory for no good purpose.

    And, higher OS versionsare even worse with Bonjour/mDNSResponder, but might see this...

    Hi,
    You have the choice between xml or pdf, in later versions of designer you can choose with a dropdown on the email button Object palette, the "Submit As";
    In earlier version you had to edit the XML Source and change the format from xml to pdf (or vice-versa);

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 and LiveCycle Designer

    We have had some outside help creating forms and they have been using LiveCycle Designer and we would like to make some changes however since we only have Acrobat 9 we are not able to open the form to edit fields. When looking at the help menu in Acrobat is stays that You can use LiveCycle designer to edit forms that were created in Acrobat, however Acrobat can not edit forms fields that have been opened and saved in LiveCycle Designer.
    With that said, do we have LiveCycle and we just dont know about it? Our outside help seems to think we should have it? does anyone know a work around? Thanks!

    You should be able to open the form. As far as edits, you will have to go to the FORMS menu. The TOOLS>Forms is for the AcroForms, not LiveCycle. The FORMS menu is generally your entry to LiveCycle. If you do not have that, it is apparently an issue with Std (I thought they had added Forms to AA9 Std).

  • Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES and Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro

    I recently purchased Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, it came with Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES.  When I create a new document with Acrobat 9, it takes me right into LiveCycle for the design, which I do not mind.  However, the properties for each field are very limited in comparaison with Acrobat 9.  So, the file I create with LiveCycle I want to be able to open again with Acrobat 9 and reach the field properties with Acrobat 9, but the system does not allow me to do that.  What am I doing wrong?

    To force uppercase, enter the following in the change event as JavaScript (make sure JavaScipt is selected in the language dropdown list at the top right):
    xfa.event.change = xfa.event.change.toUpperCase();
    As you can see in the picture, there are many palettes available on the right side to edit fields. Hope this helps.

  • Is possible in acrobat reader fill in and save interactive PDF created with LiveCycle Designer?

    is possible in acrobat reader fill in and save interactive PDF created with LiveCycle Designer?

    Hi,
    Only if the form has been Reader Enabled before it is sent out to the user with Reader.
    There are two ways of Reader Enabling the form. One using Acrobat Standard v9 or Acrobat Professional v8 (both have license restrictions). The other is to use LC Reader Extensions ES2, which is a server product (additional costs).
    Some info here:
    http://www.assuredynamics.com/index.php/2010/11/using-livecycle-forms-in-acrobat-and-reade r/
    A search of the forums for "Reader Extensions" or "Reader Enable" will give more information.
    Hope that helps,

    Tamara,
    Did you reinstall using the full three step way (otherwise strange things may linger)?
    Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • I have downloaded a trail version of adobe acrobat pro and when I try to use it, it says that it cannot be edited in acrobat, please use adobe livecycle designer to edit this form. I can't work out what I need to do?

    I have downloaded a trail version of adobe acrobat pro and when I try to use it, it says that it cannot be edited in acrobat, please use adobe livecycle designer to edit this form. I can't work out what I need to do?

    Acrobat XI is not distributed with Designer. Designer is now a separate product. You can create forms in Acrobat as an AcroForm or using Forms Central (an online forms program). You can print the form to a new PDF and then recreate the fields in Acrobat using the recognize form fields. You will likely have to fix the form fields, but that would be the process. Generally, once a form is taken to Designer, you can't bring it back without such steps.
    Designer is available with AA8 - AAX, but since is a separate product as I indicated.
