LiveCycle Designer ES performance becomes poor

Hi,
It is very strange that, every time I put a little more content in form design, the performance of ES will become very poor.
I'm using Windows 7 and ES version 8.1.2.3337.1.509884.
For example, a print form whose size is only 1074KB (16652 lines of XML ) will lead to ES becoming the largest comsumer of system resources: up-to 25% of the CPU and 121,872K memory according to Windows task manager. System even got hung if I try to switch to XML Source.
Is it normal? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
-Vicky

Hi Paul,
Thanks for reply.
Test 1: save the form as xdp file.
>>>>
Size: 1084KB.
Test2: click on the XML tab and scroll through the file
>>>>
I even can not scroll down the file as the computer kept hung.
I open it with an text editor and yes, there're huge number of duplicated line as below
----clip----
  <border presence="hidden">
                              <?templateDesigner StyleID aped0?>
                              <?templateDesigner StyleID aped0?>
                              <?templateDesigner StyleID aped0?>
                              <?templateDesigner StyleID aped0?>
----clap----
On every place for border settings.
There're total 11856 occurrences for " <?templateDesigner StyleID aped0?>" in this XML, which in total has 16864 lines. Kinda creazy.
After replacing all of them with " ", the XDP size shrinks into 653KB and the XML Source could be viewed normally in Lifecycle.
For me this looks like a SW bug.

    I received the following from Hyperion. I had the customer add the following line to their essbase.cfg file and it increased their performance of Analyzer retrieval from 30 seconds to 0.4 seconds. CalcReuseDynCalcBlocks FALSE This is an undocumented setting (will be documented in Essbase v6.2.3). Here is a brief explanation of this setting from development: This setting is used to turn off a method of reusing dynamically calculated values during retrievals. The method is turned on by default and can speed up retrievals when it involves a large number of dynamically calculated blocks that are each required to compute several other blocks. This may happen when there is a big hierarchy of sparse dynamic calc members. However, a large dynamic calculator cache size or a large value of CALCLOCKBLOCK may adversely affect the retrieval performance when this method is used. In such cases, the method should be turned off by setting CalcReuseDynCalcBlocks to FALSE in the essbase.cfg file. Only retrievals are affected by this setting.

  • Is there a way to perform animation in Adobe Livecycle Designer?

    Hi,
    I wanted to know whether its possible to perform animation in Adobe Livecycle Designer.
    If yes then HOW??
    Also if there is a way to create time lag between subforms??
    Thanks in Advance!!!!

    Hi,
    with Designer ES3 your able to embed Flash contents into XFA forms.
    Those form require Acrobat/Reader X or newer.

  • Discussing LiveCycle Designer performances

    Hi!
    I tried Adobe LiveCycle Designer to build a 10 pages or so interactive dynamic form and I noticed some problems regarding performances when dynamically adding or removing subforms. My document is made so that on page 1 you have a question like "Do the client has this thing?", if you answer yes, then a subform appears (presence = "visible" instead of presence = "hidden" on the next page (because the subform does not allow page breaks) and then I change the current page to go to the next page. The effect of this is that I want the person to check YES, and then the form goes to the details subform. It works, but the form actually goes to the next page before the subform is shown, so I see question 2 for 1 or 2 seconds and then I see the details subform for question 1. Is there anything that can be done about this lag?
    Thank you for any comments / solutions etc.
    Alexandre Soares

    Yeah it is a good way to go around the problem, but still, designer is slow. I wanted to make sure nobody had a similar case where it was lightning fast. I'm not sure if it's a good tool for really "dynamic" forms. I tried it with a two pages sample form, hiding and showing a subform on the second page, and still it is not so fast... :(

  • Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES closes when I open it...

    Hello all, I want to thank you beforehand for the help regarding this matter. I use Windows Vista and my Adobe LiveCycle Designer was working before but for the last week and a half or so I have not been able to get it to work! I have done scandisk/defrag/and have multiple software to keep my computer clean so I have taken those precautions beforehand. To the problem...:
    My Adobe LiveCycle Designer opens up and it was working previously as mentioned, but when I try to open it by either opening or converting a form or creating a new form with a template, I am not able to as it gives me an error message and closes! It gives me an error message of "Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES has stopped working" and a screenshot of this is provided at the following link:
    http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/bc59d422150595157c212a5b181313244g.jpg
    I don't know what to do and wanted to see if I could solve this problem before I was forced to try to manually reinstall it so hopefully I don't have to go through that. I appreciate the help once again!

    Shawn,
    This may be a couple of known things; one is related to your specific installation (may have become corrupted if you did an upgrade from a previous version, especially if you upgraded from Beta?) Or, it may be related to a known SQL Server compatibility bug for which a hotfix will shortly be posted. (Problem with some Microsoft DLLs that get updated if you install SQL server).
    If you have SQL Server installed, try looking on these forums for a patch that should be posted within the next 2 days. If not - please contact me directly, as I'd like to get someone on my development team to help look through your installation and see what the problem is, so we can fix this properly.

  • Adobe Acrobat XI Freezes On LiveCycle Designer Form

    Adobe Acrobat XI randomly freezes when filling out form fields in a specific PDF designed by myself in LiveCycle Designer 11.
    The Windows Event Log sometimes records the following:
    Error
    11/8/2013 4:09:00 PM
    Application Error
    1000
    (100)
    "Faulting application name: Acrobat.exe, version: 11.0.4.63, time stamp: 0x52288928

    Faulting module path: unknown
    Report Id: fcca7abe-48b9-11e3-b2d4-bc305bfc853b"
    This indicates a hard crash, but when I've seen the issue it's the Acrobat window becoming grayed out and unresponsive (in the typical Windows fashion).
    The staff member who regularly uses the PDF form indicates he's constantly having to deal with this. I've confirmed the freeze once while shadowing him for the day.
    In terms of the PDF itself there's not much special-- four (4) pages filled with a lot of text, drop down and checkboxes, and three buttons that contain short snippets of code that likely never run.
    What gives? How does Acrobat crash on such a straightforward PDF?

    If this only happens for one users Acrobat you should try to uninstall and reinstall Acrobat.
    There is a tool from Adobe Labs that will fix registry issues and other problems that can cause an unexspected app crash.
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
    If you see the problem on different machines, it's worth to let someone check your form.

  • Livecycle Designer ES 8.2 Crashing When Trying to Add Elements

    I've created a form and hit a roadblock.
    The form is 17 pages long and contains 151 elements.
    When attempting to add another element the application shows not responding and then eventually crashes.  Worse yet, it corrupts the PDF.  The byte count for the file goes from around 280KB to 0KB.  When I attempt to open the file using LC after recovering from the crash, the file is blank (obviously).
    After restoring the files from tape, I attempted to work-around this issue by splitting the form into separate smaller parts and then combining the parts in Acrobat Pro, but the add more pages features is grayed out and I can combine the PDFs.
    This is extremely frustrating and hugely limits my ability to create forms.

  • Livecycle Designer ES 8.2 win32 exception

    I installed the Adobe 9 pro update with the Livecycle designer ES 8.2.
    Initially it worked and I created some documents, but it is now failing with the following error
    "An unhandled win32 exception occurred in FormDesigner.exe[2888]."
    I get this error even if I open up a new form. It occurs when the operation status window says it is loading the new document. The program crashes before a new document is loaded on the screen.
    I have tried uninstalling Livecycle and repairing Acrobat. There is no improvement.
    Does anyone have any ideas on what to try next?

  • ADOBE AIR for offline applications or Adobe LiveCycle Designer Offline form

    Hi Experts,
    I have a requirement of recreating the XK01 Customer Master Creation functionality and host it as online application in SAP Netweaver Enterprise Portal. I have done this by creating a Web Dynpro ABAP application and embedding a adobe livecycle designer interactive forms (having same fields as required for Customer Master creation in XK01). In online scenario, the PDF form opens up in browser. In offline scenario, the user can fill up the form and upload the form using UPLOAD button created in the Web Dynpro application. There has been some performance issues like if we have too many dropdown UI elements in the form (having many entries in each), then the form takes too much time to get uploaded.
    Can we think of a alternate solution using Adobe AIR desktop application which will enable the user to fill up the form in AIR like User interface. I am new to Adobe Flex and Adobe AIR.
    The online scenario  perfectly fine with Adobe LiveCycle Designer Forms and SAP ABAP Web Dynpro application. It's offline functionality where its performance hasnt been up to the mark.
    Also let me know if Adobe AIR can be used in the offline scenario while ADOBE forms in online scenarion or is it mandatory to have AIR AND FLEX in offline and online scenario respectively.
    Please advise.
    Regards.
    Rohit

    hi,do you still need an answer for this question?
    Because Adobe flex and air are very good solutions for a offline and online scenario
    Kind regards,

  • Security issues with Livecycle Designer

    In the past, I have been able to modify and change documents inside of Adobe Acrobat after creating the forms inside of LD. I've recently run into a problem where the security settings in Adobe Acrobat continue to advise that it is unable to make changes to the document, which prevent me from inserting or deleting pages. I was able to save documents into a .PDF format from LD without any issues before a week or so ago. I've searched high and low for an answer, but cannot determine why it would have suddenly changed
    I'm using Livecycle Designer ES2. I've modified the program in several different ways, but none of them allow me to change the security settings to allow Acrobat to perform the functions that it used to.
    Printing the document from LD into a PDF is not an option, as I still need others to have the ability to modify/add answers inside of the created forms.
    Thank you in advance!

    If your form has been saved as dynamic PDF you have a XDP file in a PDF shell.
    This kind of PDF (XFA form) is totally different to regular static PDF.
    Acrobat simply does not allow to modify dynamic PDFs because it can't.

  • Can Xpath be used in LiveCycle Designer ES?

    Is it possible to use xpath in LiveCycle Designer ES?
    Thanks.

    Hi Capiono,
    If you are trying to use XPaths in the PDF there is a an applyXPath method available in the Acrobat API, documented in js_api_reference.pdf which is part of the Acrobat X SDK available at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/sdk/eula.html or in the Acrobat 8 version directly at http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/js_api_r eference.pdf#page=728
    So if my form had some xml like;
    <formData>
        <requestId name="RequestId">1263678</requestId>
    </formData>
    The following will display 1263678 on the console;
    console.println(XMLData.applyXPath($data, '//*[@name = "RequestId"]').item(0).value);
    That is the value of the first element with a name attribute of RequestId.
    I’ve never got this method to work with namespaces and the context is not what I would expect, in this example the root should be $data, but it is still possible to pick up elements from the XFA template.  This is one reason why the XPath expressions I used ended up being more complicated than they could have been, like the one above.
    So I stick with SOM expression, but for simple relative XPaths you can use the following to convert to a SOM;
    // Attempt to turn a relative XPath into a relative SOM expression
    // e.g. ../../clientId/text()  becomes  parent.parent.clientId
    function xpathToSom(xpath)
        xpath = stripNamespacePrefixes(xpath);
        xpath = xpath.replace(/\.\.\//g, "parent.");
        xpath = xpath.replace(/\/text\(\)/, "");
        xpath = xpath.replace(/\//g, ".");
        return xpath;
    // Strip all namespace prefixes from an xpath expression
    // e.g. /default:collections/default:collection/@reportingPeriod
    //       will become
    //  /collections/collection/@reportingPeriod
    function stripNamespacePrefixes(xpath)
        return xpath.replace(/\/\w*?:/g, "/");
    This is far from a general routine but maybe somewhere to start.

  • FDF & LiveCycle Designer - HELP!

    Dear all,
    I think I'm becoming insane. I have forms created in LiveCycle Designer 8,
    and I need that one of the text fields will be filled in automatically.
    Its value (for example, "123456") is supposed to be based on a PHP Session.
    I've found this great tutorial: http://koivi.com/fill-pdf-form-fields/,
    only to find out later that it only works in forms created by Acrobat itself, and my question is: WHY?!
    I have a dead-line to finish the project I need it for,
    and I'll be kicked out if I won't find a solution to that issue until then.
    Please, I beg you, help me with your kindness and wisdom to find a solution, since I'm currently at a dead-end with no turning back.
    By the way, the funny, ironic thing is that I usually work in a web environment, using HTML, (Web) JavaScript and PHP to create forms with validations. The only reason we turned to the PDF technology is because
    we need an image of the submitted form, and the digital signature as a
    proof, in case patients in the research will decide to sue us for damages.
    Thank you so much for reading,

  • LiveCycle Designer 8.0 Table Header bug

    My dynamic form (8.0 dynamic XML form) has strange behavior with table headers.
    When rows are dynamically added to the table to make the table expand to a third page, the table headers become unstable. Once the table expands to the third page, if a row is added or removed, a new table header is added to the second page so the second page ends up having extra table headers.
    I have been using LiveCycle Designer 8.0 that came with Acrobat Professional 8.0.
    I have been using the Purchase Order.pdf, that came with Designer 8.0, as an example to create tables that can have rows added or removed dynamically. I checked the Purchase Order.pdf (8.0), and it also has the same buggy, table-header behavior.
    I then downloaded Acrobat Professional 9.0 which comes with LiveCycle Designer 8.2 and checked the Purchase Order.pdf that came with it.
    The Purchase Order.pdf (8.2) works correctly.
    I then compared the timestamps of the Purchase Order.pdf (8.0) and Purchase Order.pdf (8.2) and their XML source.
    The timestamps are different, Purchase Order.pdf (8.0) -10/17/2006 11:16 PM, Purchase Order.pdf (8.2) -5/23/2008 1:16 AM.
    The main difference in the XML source between the two versions is their
    Overflow-related tag.
    The Purchase Order.pdf (8.0) has
    The Purchase Order.pdf (8.2) has .
    I dont know about Designer 8.1, but the table-header bug is definitely fixed in Designer 8.2.
    Could someone please tell me what I need to install to fix this bug? Is there a service pack for Designer 8.0 or do I have to install Designer 8.2?
    I have seen workarounds for this bug in the forum, but creating a master page containing the table header for each table in the form seems to be an excessive hack.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    There is no patch .....if it is fixed in 8.2 then you will have to use that.

  • LiveCycle Designer 8 Saving Dynamic Field Problem

    Just updated to LiveCycle Designer 8 to get around the issue with my users not being able to save the PDF form data. Now my users can save the data using Acrobat Reader 8 but my dynamic fields are not working correctly.
    I have several fields that when you click a certain radio button or check a certain box, a previously invisible text field becomees visible. If one of those boxes is checked and data is entered in the now visible text field, then the users saves the form and reopens it, the data is saved but the field is invisible. Viewing the XML output confirms that the data is still there. When the form is reopened the checkbox that makes the field visible is still checked. But to see that data entered in the text field, you have to uncheck and then recheck the box to get the invisible field to become visible once more. Any idea on how to correct this "feature"?
    Thanks, Debra

    Hi Debra,
    To correct this 'feature', go in Form Properties > Defaults tab, set the Preserve Scripting Changes To Form When Saved option to Automatically.
    To correctly using Designer 7.x, youll have to write some script to achieve the same result. Currently, you have a script setting the fields state. All you need is to run the same script when the form is opened. In the example below, a form:ready script will execute the change event script when the form is opened. You can use the docReady event as well.
    For example:
    RadioButtonList: change event
    if (this.rawValue == "1")
    TextField1.presence = "visible";
    else
    TextField1.presence = "invisible";
    RadioButtonList: form:ready event
    this.execEvent("change");
    Hope this helps,
    Hélène

  • Adobe LiveCycle Designer 7.1 - Barcoded Forms Changes

    For those of you that have upgraded to Adobe LiveCycle Designer 7.1 you should notice that there are a few changes to the Paper Forms Barcode object interface.
    On the Field tab you will see that the label may be generated automatically or manually which before could only be generated automatically. The most significant change may be found further down in the new Symbology pull-down menu. Not only can Barcodes be generated in the PDF417 format, but now you can take advantage of both QRCode and DataMatrix. Depending on the region as well as vertical will probably decide which format you will be using on your forms but it may be worth experimenting with different symbologies and data capacities based on the data of your forms to see if there may be a better alternative.
    On the Value tab you will find a slight change to the automated scripting. Tab-delimited and XML may still be generated automatically but you now have the option to select whether or not you would like to include the field names and labels. The Include Field Names separates the field names by tabs and encodes them as the first line of the barcode contents. The values are encoded beneath them. Include Label encodes the label (shown in Field tab) as the first tab-delimited field in the barcode contents. This is a great way to include a form identifier as a standard in your data (a good best practice). Keep in mind that when using the default tab-delimited formats the Adobe LiveCycle Barcoded Forms Decoder can create XML from tab-delimited data automatically which saves some time on the back-end integration effort.
    Again on the Value tab there is another new drop-down field named Collection. For those of you familiar with the Barcoded forms interface of Acrobat, you were able to select the fields that you wanted to be encoded in the barcode without having to do any custom scripting. The Collection interface basically provides you with the same functionality but under a great tree-view interface that allows you to manage the data that goes into your Barcode very easily, again, without custom Scripting.
