LiveCycle Workbench ES2 - restricting application access

Hello,
We have several developer groups accessing different applications within Workbench ES2 (9.5).  We are trying to restrict access to applications so that only the appropriate development groups have read/write access to their Workbench applications.  We have tried using the "manage access" feature of Workbench but it does not work at all (click show remote resources button and then right click on any application and then click manage access).  We have a long standing case open with Adobe to resolve this but in the meantime I am wondering:
1.  Does anyone out there successfully use this Workbench feature to restrict access to applications?
2.  Could anyone suggest an alternative to the manage access feature to restrict access?
It is my understanding that prior to the current release of Workbench there was a repository of sorts in Workbench where you could create folders and then secure anything in those folders by users/groups.  This was accessed using the “resources” tab.  Sure wish that functionality still existed!
Thanks in advance for any and all help/advice.

Here is documentation on doing so, the steps are described under the "Managing user access to applications" sub-heading:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/10.0/WorkbenchHelp/WS92d06802c76abadb7e4e02661284028 97ed-7ffa.html#WS92d06802c76abadb7e4e0266128402897ed-7f94
Here is a few thing to keep in mind:
- If the users accessing the application have the "Application Administrator" role assigned in adminui, this will not have any effect.
- This will only allow the users to fetch the application to which they have access from the server, local copies of the application before this access change is applied can cause errors.
- You should be managing these access rights while logged in as an Administrator, or Application Administrator in Workbench.

  • LiveCycle Workbench ES2 - "Java(TM) Platform SE binary has stopped working" Error

    Hi,
I am getting this error when I try to create a new process o open an existing process.
"Java(TM) Platform SE binary has stopped working"
The only option is to click on a "Close" button and end the LC Workbench ES2 program.
Also, when I try to open an existing form, it displays 'garbage' - a screenfull of control unrecognizable characters - instead of the form itself.
When this error comes up, I also get a pop-up window with a list of log entries / errors (please see attached: Java Platform SE binary has stopped working.jpg)
    Environment:
Windows Vista Ultimate running on HP Desktop (e9107c Intel CORE 2 Quad Processor withy 8 GB RAM, 750GB HDD)
Downloaded and installed the Trial Version of LiveCycle ES2 package (Windows JBoss version)
The LiveCycle ES2 server is installed properly and is working with the following services. Are there any missing services?
LiveCycle Output ES2, LiveCycle Rights Management ES2, LiveCycle PDF Generator ES2 Evaluation, LiveCycle Process Management ES2, LiveCycle Workspace ES2, Applications and Services, LiveCycle ContentServices ES2, LiveCycle Forms ES2
I already had Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9.2 and the associated LiveCycle Designer instaleld prior to installing the Trial of LC ES2.
Basesd on the installation insttructions, I deleted the Designer ES from my Acrobat Pro Extended and instaleld the LC Workbench ES2.
Now I don't see a seprate entry for the LC Designer ES2 anymore on my Start >> Programs.
And th newly installed LC Workbench is not working
Any help in making the workbench 'work' is greatly appreciated.
Are there any tests we can do to troubleshoot this?
    Thanks.

Here is some additional information that may be helpful in identifying the cause for this problem.
Here is the Exact ERROR :
Java (TM) Platform SE binary has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
    Button: "Close Program".
On clicking that button, the error window goes away; the main LC WB ES2 program also closes; but a long error window appears. The full screenshot was attached in my original message. The top few lines are reproduced below.

    The main problem is...
I am NOT able to create a new process or open existing process using workbench.
Since it gives Java Platform SE error, I checked the versions of various Java Run Time Environments on my pc.
Properties of javaw.exe in different folders:
    1. My Computer's JRE (common to all apps)
    Folder: Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\

I tried to use the same versions of JRE in all these folders; that didn't work..
I hope someone can throw more light on this and find the real cause.

  • LiveCycle Workbench ES2 keeps freezing up

I have Adobe LiveCycle Workbench ES2 Version: 9.5.0.0.20100908.1.247189 installed on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine with 8GB of RAM and it has been getting really bad about freezing up. At first, it would just get hung up every once in a while, but now it freezes practically every time that I make a process change. My sole job is using Workbench, so this problem is seriously decreasing my productivity. Does anyone know what the problem may be? When it get non-responsive and I have to force quit the application, I see the following stack trace:
    JVM terminated. Exit code=-805306369

If anyone has any ideas why this may be happening, please let me know. If you need more information about my installation, just ask.
    Thanks.

Try to increase the workbench memory management settings:
    Goto:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe LiveCycle Workbench ES2\workbench\workbench.ini
Change the 3rd and 4th lines to below:
    -Xms256m
    -Xmx1024m
    Hope it helps.

  • Restrict application access based on IP address

    Hi!
I am a newbie to Oracle Application Server, and I want to know if there is any way to restrict access to particular applications such as 'ascontrol' based on IP address.
I am using Oracle Application Server 10g.
    Regards
    Drini

You can see dms.conf file for something like that.
    Order deny, allow
    deny from all
    allow from 10.0.0.1
This only allow 10.0.0.1 to see something.
    Greetings

  • Restrict Application Access

    Hey,
I've recently created an application for our users to use, On the workspace we have a couple of applications.
For the main application we have a user group with all of the people who are allowed access to the main application, how can i restrict it so they can only access this application and no other application on workspace?
    Thanks
    Ozzy

one option of course is to create multipple workspaces. If that is not an option, try using custom authentication (many examples on the net) and incorporate the application in the credentials. Effectively, you're adding authorization to your authentication mechanism ;)

  • LiveCycle Workbench ES2

Is this a free tool if we will purchase Lifecycle ES2 with some modules or do we need to pay a license for this tool as well?
    thanx,
    d

You have to pay not only for the tool but also for each of the extra solution components(like Reader Extensions, Rights Management, etc) of it.

  • How to set the UI language in Workbench ES2

    Hi all,
I have installed LiveCycle Workbench ES2 (Version 9.5) and want to change the language of the UI from English to German.
    How can I do that?
    Thanks in advance!
    Paul

I can't say for certain but there are thoughts about localizing to Japanese for ES3 but nothing has been firmed up yet.
If you mean "this" being that Workbench is available only in English, I don't believe we specifically point this but we'll take a look into it and get back to you.

  • Problems with process designer in Workbench ES2 with Win7

    Hello,
I had LiveCycle Workbench installed on my laptop and I have designed some short-term processes. They have been running successfully for sometime. Recently my laptop was upgraded to Windows 7 and got the workbench re-installed.
Now when I try to open up the processes that I have created using process designer, it fails with this error
    JVM terminated. Exit code=1073740940
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe LiveCycle Workbench ES2\workbench\jre\bin\javaw.exe
    -Xms128m
    -Xmx512m
    -XX:MaxPermSize=256
    -XX:MinHeapFreeRatio=40
The LiveCycle server is 9.0 and the workbench is ES2 version. It seems to be a JRE version incompatibility. My understanding is that workbench is shipped with jre which in my case is jre6. Though I have jre7 with Windows 7, the workbench uses jre6 that comes with it.
How do I set the JRE for the workbench ? Or how do I get around this problem ?
I see the same error when I try to create new process as well.
Any ideas would be appreciated .
    Thanks,
    Jyothi

I found the solution to this problem. I uninstalled workbench 9.0 and installed workbench 9.5. It worked !

  • Lync Application and Desktop Sharing - Restrict remote access/Telnet

I have a customer and they are paranoid about using Lync application/desktop sharing which could potentially enable remote users from getting into their internal IT systems.  They are asking if we could restrict application/desktop sharing specifically
for appls with remote access capabilities (e.g. Telnet, etc.)? Anyone could share any information relating to this? Thanks!

We can’t do this with Lync Server natively. Maybe you want to vote idea at

  • How to restrict user access in Oracle Application Server 10g (9.0.4)?

Can anybody please let me know how to restrict user access in 10g AS? To be specific, how to allow http requests from specific IPs only?

    Hi,
You have to edit httpd.conf and modify acces rights for each protected directory
    e.g.
    <Directory /var/www/sub/payroll/>
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from 192.168.1.0/24
    </Directory>
then you have to restart Oracle HTTP Server

    Ramasubbu

You can't do it from OOTB.
_layout folder is accessible to the users if they have read access in any of the site even subsite.
You can modify *.aspx file, add your custom control which will check user.
