Livefonts, and other Livetype Media lost upon upgrade

After upgrade from FCP 4 to 5, my LT went from 1 to 2. The Livefonts, texture, etc were lost upon upgrade. It appears as though they are not being read in the Live Type Data folder. Maybe because the LT 1 data and LT 2 data are different? Anyways, I tried going into the preferences and adding the location of the Live Type Data, but it still did not read it.
I tried reinstalling the FCP 4 software I have, but Livetype still registers as LT 2, not 1 and FCP stays at v.5. I checked the fonts in font book and did not find any questionmarks to indicate a faulty font. I spent all day trying to resolve this issue. Any suggestions?

It's bee two years since I did that upgrade, I cannot remember any of the details, sorry.
What does Spotlight give you if you search for recently installed big folders? The LT data folder is large and should be easy to find. If it can't be found, you may not have actually installed it.
You can search for some relevant threads or wait a few more days for some reliable help.

  • Addressbook and Calendar lost upon upgrading to

In upgrading to Yosemite from Maverick on my Macbook late 2009 (2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, Storage available: 242.73 GB, Capacity: 319.21 GB) I have lost all my AB contacts as well as my calendar. I have looked in my home folder>library>applications support>addressbook as suggested but there is no file: addressbook-v22.abcddb. The data appears to still be in library>caches>com.apple.Addressbook>metadata. I also have time machine backups on an external disk. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Timothy,
Welcome to the Discussions. It is possible they are not lost, but not displaying because of certain conversion issues. Because your mailboxes, or at least some of them, originated in an earlier version of Mail, I want you to read the article at the link below, and perhaps get back to me with some observations, before attempting any changes:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301315
This issue of leftover files applies not only to mailboxes you have previously created (which are in the Mailboxes folder the article mentioned) but can also apply to those mailboxes in account folders created prior to the upgrade to Tiger.
Also, please report the size of each file or folder. Do not, however, try to list the files that are within the folder named Messages, that is found in each and every mailbox. It is very important to compare the size of any file named "mbox" with that of the Messages folder. If the mbox is greater in size than the Messages folder, then not all messages have been converted to be in the Messages folder in that mailbox.
The path to the Mail folder is Home/Library/Mail -- within the Mail folder are one or more account folders and the Mailboxes folder.
Let me know what you find.

  • Ical and other applications crash/freeze after upgrade to tiger

I upgraded to Tiger over a year ago, and this problem has persisted since then. I haven't had time to fix it, but I really miss ical and the other programs that crash.
    This is whats going on:
my ical, mail, ichat and address book freeze upon opening, or open and then crash. None of these programs work. I have tried all of the trouble shooting articles on the website. I have reinstalled tiger (twice) using archive + install.
I have also created a new user account, and i did not experience the problems on that account. So, i know it is my user account. However, I don't know what that means, and I don't know what i can do.
Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated. I can try to post the crash reports (if someone would find them helpful and can tell me how to find them..)
thanks again for any help, I really appreciate it.
    Kate

See this other discussion which uses a different phrase / set of keywords ("iCal hangs"):

  • Can i recover lost PDFs stored in iBooks? They were lost upon upgrading to iOS7.

I lost all my PDF files stored in iBooks when upgrading to iOS7. Yes, I backed up my iPad first onto my iTunes account on my PC. No, I am not on the cloud as far as I know.

    Okay... try this...
Perform a Reset on the iPad (different from just restarting). Hold down on both the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears. When you see the Apple logo on the black screen, let go of the buttons.
After the restart, go to Settings -> iTunes & App Store -> Apple ID and sign out of your account. Then sign back in with your Apple ID. Go back to "Settings" and "iBooks" and confirm that "online content" and turn it on. Launch iBooks again.
If that doesn't work, go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings. When done, turn your iPad off (hold the Sleep button down for several seconds. When the red slider appears, switch it off. Wait a few seconds and then press and hold the Sleep button for 1-2 seconds and let go). After the reboot you will need to reconnect your Wi-Fi, log back in to App Store, iBook Store, and iTunes. Try downloading iBooks content again.
    Hope this helps!

  • How to play .wma and other Windows Media Player-format files/videos on Mac?

    Hi again,
I will be asking stupid questions as I'm a newbie to Mac, so please bear with me. There are some video format that QuickTime player doesn't play e.g. .wma files. I tried a couple of times to download Windows Media Player for Mac but it doesn't install on my Mac! Do I require a software similar to Zipfile or does Mac has it all build in?
PS - What is the coequal of "delete" button here in Mac (keyboard)?

Download and install Flip4Mac - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - to play Windows Media files via Quicktime. Also get Perian to provide additional codecs for other video formats.
The Delete key is on the keyboard next to the "=" key.

@Jeremy: Sleep and palette monitors have always been problematic. I have heard massive amounts of anger related to issues with that combination ever since OS 7.
Your best bet is to make sure you have a custom workspace and possibly a hot key assigned to it. Whether this problem is Adobe's or Apple's is anyone's guess, which is going to make it hard to get someone to fix it too...
@Susan: Try the Reset Panels command under the Workspace menu first. If that doesn't work, try resetting your InDesign prefs completely by holding down cmd-opt-shift-control when you launch it.

IOS 8 - pictures not uploading in safari for facebook and other websites? I just upgraded to IOS 8 on my iPad 3 retina display and when I try to upload pictures in safari for facebook, the picture upload just stalls and never completes. This happens in other sites as well. How can I fix this? Is anyone also experiencing this issue???

Hi Hindhaughlee, <br />Thanks for the post.
This may not be the best place to post such a solution but maybe some users will find it. If it turns out to be a major problem with a simple solution maybe we will manage to document it somewhere.
Are you able to provide more details please:
    * exactly what software and software versions is the problem with ? <br /> You appear to be a Windows 8 user, but presumably the Kaspersky software may be applicable to other Windows versions, which Kaspersky software is this tested with ?
    * What is he exact error message or warning that Kaspersky generates in this situation ?
    * is the problem documented elsewhere, preferably in a public open site, if so maybe you could provide a link
    * can you detail simple but exact detailed Steps To Reproduce that will enable others to test out this problem and solution.
    Cheers

    P.S. <br />
Anyone with this problem finding that the solution works may wish to vote for this thread and solution. Or if someone else can produce links to examples of this or you are able to give precise Steps To Reproduce please add a post of your own.

  • External Livefonts textures etc. Lost on upon Upgrade

I recently upgraded Final Cut, and thus am using LiveType 2.1.4
Since I am on a macbook pro, hard drive space is critical. For a prior version of LiveType, I migrated the fonts, effects etc. to an external drive and it worked. During the upgrade process it asked me where to install media, and I pointed to external drive.
Now I only see the new media in the media browser, not the pre-existing.
For example, under Collectors Edition under live fonts, I see only
    Cycle
    Gust
    String,
    but cannot see
    Chance
    Coil
    Deck etc.
    Under Pro I see only
    Blueprint
    Clerk
    Computer
    Cool
    Flip Clock
    but am missing
    Bar
    Buck
    Bumper
    Burn Barrel
    Charge
    etc...
    Any suggestions

Fair enough dynsight2 - you're quite entitled to believe whatever you like about what Apple does.
I was simply doing the math. The content for Livetype V2.1 which I use comes on *2 DVD's* (approx 8 GB).
On Apple's website, the "version 2.1" of Livetype that comes with Final Cut Express 4 comes with only "500MB of royalty-free animated content". That's a heck of a drop. That's why I class it as a Lite" version" - no offence to Apple intended.
The low price I was referring to was the full price compared to previous versions, not the upgrade price.
Despite what I've said, FCE4 is very good value for someone moving up from iMovie to FCE - especially if you don't need Soundtrack, and don't mind having less content available in LT.
    Regards. Robert.

I upgraded to IOS5 and have lost my contacts and other app profiles - is there any way to get them back from the backup taken before the IOS5 process started?

Thanks but have tried that - When I try to restore I get a -50 error and into a loop of taking another back up.  I took a copy of the back up before the IOS upgrade and have it stored on my desk top but I cannot get Itunes to restore to that back up
Any ideas how I can do this?

  • What are:  LiveType Media 1 & 2 - And Apple Loops?

    Hello Hello
I just bought and installed the 'FCE HD Version 3.5' Upgrade - looks nice
Apple bundled with it, 'LiveType Media 1 & 2' - And 'Apple Loops'.
Before I install these programs, can you guys give me a brief description of what these programs do you for?
    Why do I ask?
Well, I already have Sound Studio 2.2.4, and iLife 6. I just didn't want to install these new programs until I can find out if they're really worth it?
I guess the 'Apple Loops' will add some addtional sound effects to my Garage Band Sound Effects Library?
    Thank you my friends
    Mike

    Hi Tom
Thanx so much for replying to my questions
Yes I see what happened - I 'UNCHECKED' those applications when I installed FCE HD, because I wanted to ask you guys about it's usefulness first. So I'd have to go back and re-insert the install disc to install them. But that's ok..
Tom - could you please tell me a little more about what 'Sond Track' offers?
I mean, can you do the same things that you can do in Garage Band?
    EQ, Effects, Presets etc... ?
And are there any cool sound effects on that Apple LOOP Disc? Like the ones that Garage Band gives you?
    Thanx Tom
    Mike

  • Crossgrade Upgrade Not working with previous LiveType Media files

I have recently received the crossgrade discs and was able to successfully upgrade FCP, Motion, DVDSP...however, when it came to LiveType...and requested the previous LiveType Media discs, the installer didn't seem to recognize the first disc, and spit it out, thus stalling the rest of the install...anyone else experienced this issue, or have any suggestions?

None of what I posted you should need the device for. Now if you did not delete any folders then it should snap back to where the file was stored in the first place. If you still have issues it is possible for you to search for the files though windows. This maybe a little work around that you may need.
If Garmin did not change any of the files types then this maybe the trick. Using the search function look for .dat or .bak you may find some under the palm/[Hotsync Username].
Next thing would be to see if Garmin could help you. From what it sounds you just need to know where the file location is and an old forum board or KB just might help you.

  • ITunes Fix for Manually Moving Music and other Media

    Intro
Any iTunes 7.x user who manages their own music library outside of the "iTunes Music" folder might be able to tell you that iTunes DOES NOT respond well after manually moving tracks from one place to another on their computer systems. In fact, any file you move becomes immediately unplayable in iTunes. And, if you're anything like I am, losing several years worth of song rating metadata and playlists is not a good incentive for change. However, one thing others might not be able to tell you is that there's an easy workaround for the problem and you get to keep your playlists, ratings and other info. Read on to learn about the workaround.
    About the Workaround
The workaround is a simple hack I devised after recently transferring a good portion of my music library between hard disks and running into problems with iTunes. The fix steps provided below are intended to circumvent the problems with iTunes and give users the freedom to move songs and other media files on their computers while maintaining the integrity of both the ratings and the playlists. Meaning you won't need to manually update the song locations in iTunes one-at-a-time, which, at version 7.02 is the only way to accomplish this task using the program.
Please be aware that not all information is retained using this workaround. What will be lost are the following: the "Recently Added", "Recently Played" and "Top 25 Most Played" iTunes Smart Playlists; any media file play counts; last played information; and possibly some other data used only internally by iTunes.
So, if you're comfortable parting with some metadata while keeping your cherished song ratings and playlists intact during file relocation, read on to learn how to use the workaround.
    Workaround Steps
The following instructions walk step-by-step through the process of this workaround.
Note: All backslashes used in file paths have been converted to forward slashes so that they will adhere with MySpace XSS security validation checks. These altered paths can still be copy/paste into Windows Vista's Explorer program once the Username is changed to the User Account where the iTunes files reside.
    Preparing for the Move
Before you move your files, do the following:
    1. Close iTunes.
    2. Create a backup copy of the following files:
iTunes Library XML (iTunes Music Library.xml)
Note: Vista users can find the Library XML at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
    iTunes Music Database (iTunes Library.itl)
Note: Vista users can find the Music Database at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
    Moving Your Files
This part should be self explanatory, but while you do it make sure to note the following two things:
    1. The path where the files were previously stored (e.g. D:/Music).
    2. The path where the files will end up (e.g. E:/Music).
    Execute the Fix
After your files are moved, complete the following steps to implement the fix.
Note: Do not open iTunes during this process.
    Hack the iTunes Library XML
Once the files are moved the Library XML file locations will be out of sync. Follow the steps below to update them so that they now reference the correct file locations.
    1. Open the iTunes Library XML with a Text Editor with a Find/Replace function.
Note: Vista users can find the Library XML at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
Tip: Do not try to do this with Dreamweaver if your Library XML is greater than 10MB.
    2. Perform a Find/Replace using the following inputs:
Find: Path from Step 1 of Moving Your Files
Replace: Path from Step 2 of Moving Your Files
    3. Confirm your results, and then save and close the Library XML.
    Delete the iTunes Music Database
Hacking the iTunes Library isn't enough to fool iTunes. Like the Library XML, the Music Database also holds the file locations of all of the media stored within the program. And it's smart enough to wipe out the Library XML hack if iTunes is opened before completing this step.
Ensure you have backed up the iTunes Music Database (iTunes Library.itl) and delete the file.
Note: Vista users can find the Music Database at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
    Back in iTunes
Once the fix is in place you can now open iTunes again. You will notice that all of your playlists, music and other items have vanished. In order to recover them all (with the exception of the Smart Playlists mentioned in the About the Workaround section above) we'll need to import the hacked Library XML file back into iTunes.
    1. Open iTunes and press CtrlShiftO or go to File > Import…
    2. Navigate to and Open your modified Library XML (as pictured below).
    3. iTunes will then begin importing the contents of the XML file (as pictured below).
Note: This process may take a while, depending on the size if your library.
    Wrapping Up
Once the import process is complete iTunes will look almost exactly the way you left it, with the exception that some playlists have been duplicated and the number of songs may be a hair off. To fix this problem delete any duplicate playlists in the "Library" panel in iTunes. You can now test out the changes by selecting an item moved earlier and testing it out. All that's left from there is to let iTunes perform any automated analysis it needs to do and rock on.
      Other OS

    Holy Smokes:
I appreciate your detailed workaround post. My question is this: I use iTunes to keep everything organized (though I'm well aware of the shortcomings...) and can use the simple solution that Chris from CA posted, but I don't have room to consolidate everything. My read on consolidating is that you copy from wherever you have your music located (and right now my music is outside of the MyMusic/iTunes folder, as that backs up to my work server) and so you have to have enough room for all of your music to be copied (and then you delete it from its prior location). That's how Apple describes it in, e.g., http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748. I ain't go that kind of room. Is there any way to make the move to a completely different PC by following the simple option? From the posting I just linked it sounds like you MUST consolidate whether you use you iPod to move things or use an external drive.
Of course, I can use your workaround, but I thought I'd ask first. Many thanks.
