LiveType Content - FCS vs FCS 2?

Does anyone know if the LiveType Media that comes with Final Cut Studio 1 is the same as what comes with Final Cut Studio 2?

I believe the content is the same, but the format of the content (Apple switched from a three file to a one file system) is different from LT 1.x to LT 2.x. So I doubt if the Media discs are anywhere similar. I think there might be a little more content in the newer version too.

  • Livetype to FCS problem

Hi, having problems importing titles from livetype into final cut studio. Ive created the titles with no problem and rendered them in LT but when I import into FCS I get a blank screen with unrendered right across the middle. What am I doing wrong??????
Tried the user maual etc but no joy there, I did find a hint saying check the project settings in LT match those in FCS but where do I find the settings within FCS. I am working on a project using DV Pal footage captured direct from a DV camera.
Any help much appreciated and please be gentle first time using this software!!!

In FCP press cmd-zero and it will show you your sequence settings.
When ou create your graphic in LT merely save it, you don't need to render it.
Then import that file (an .ipr file) into FCP and place it on your timeline. You will need to render it there in the FCP timeline.

  • No LiveType in FCS 3?

Just browsed the apple website and I could not locate LiveType mentioned anywhere.
If this is the case, then Final Cut Express will be EOL very soon, as Apple cut the Soundtrack since version 4. And that's why there is no FCE 4.5 or 5.0

With motions new ability to work with each character individually everything you can do in livetype can be done in motion, and the round trip work flow and having the ability to create master templates makes working with Motion over LiveType a no brainer.
Still after my FCS 3 was installed I still have LiveType and it still works, along with the open in editor command.

  • Installing FCS 3 (upgrade) on new MBP with Mountain Lion

    Hi:
I just bought a new MBP with Mountain Lion installed.  I have FCS3 upgrade, which I have now on my Mac Pro tower.  I originally bought FCP version 1 back in 2000, so I've had it for quite some time.
When I insert the FCS install DVD into the MBP, the disc spins up and then spins down.... and nothing happens.  Nothing opens, no dialogue box, not sign of any activity.
    What am I missing here?

Open the finder window and click on the DVD to open it up. Make sure you have the first DVD disk...
I have FCS 3 (FCP 7) running in ML with no problems. I did a clean install of ML first... and installed the FCS 3 upgrade after that... But, make sure you install QuickTime 7 before you install FCS 3... FCS 3 with turn QuickTime 7 into the Pro version.

I installed LiveType from FCS 2 too...

  • LiveType Reinstalling Conundrum

Here's a challenge for all you FCS experts.
Like many of us, I was saddened to see no LiveType with FCS3 when I installed it. So I went to my FCS 2 upgrade disks to install it, but it naturally asked me for my FCS1 original serial number, which I no longer have, apparently. Nor do I have the original receipt.
So, under these circumstances, is there any way to get LiveType back? Or am I out of luck?
I do have the LiveType from FCS 2 installed on another computer. I assume that if I simply copy the application over to the new computer it won't work because it needs some additional mystery files. Does it? And if so, what are they, where are they and can I simply copy them to their rightful location on the new computer?
    thanks,

If you kept a backup of the previous installation, look in Hard drive/Library/Application Support/Pro Apps for a file named *Final Cut Studio System ID*. Your FCS 2 serial # is encoded in that file. It should be enough to copy it to the same location on your upgraded system.

  • Updating old project - stuck on Livetype

I'm revising a project that is a couple years old. The last time I worked on it I was still using my Powerbook (stop chuckling! be nice!) I used Livetype for several titles. Now, on my MBP, livetype is not installed and is no longer part of the Final Cut Studio. How can I restore my Livetype titles?
I found Livetype app on my FCS1 disks, but I would need to install Rosetta to get this working on my MBP. Do i want to do this?
    Thanks for your help.

LiveType in FCS 1 deposits its own .pkg file in Library/Receipts so it should update.
Software Update uses stored .pkg files to determine what updates are available.
The highest you can go is LiveType version 2.1.
    I run a copy of FCS 1 with LiveType 2.1 on a G4 with Mac OS X 10.5.8.
Another respected member here recently posted that LiveType 2.1 also works without problems in Mac OS X 10.6. [See here|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2689835&tstart=0].

I have the exact same problem! I sent the discs into my local Apple Center so they could check the discs. A month later I get them back by mail and an e-mail that says "there is no problem with the discs, therefore it must be a problem with you system". Not very helpful, and it took forever before they got time to check the discs. Pretty ****** off by now...
EDIT: It is probably worth mentioning that I get an error when installing LiveType 1B at about 4% of installing, that says "there were errors installing, please try again". I am installing the LiveType content on my LaCie 250GB USB external hard drive, although I have already tried installing the content on the built in hard drive as well..

  • Size of Final Cut Express and LiveType?

I want to get Final Cut Express soon. on info site it says this for the hard drive requirements:
"500MB disk space required for applications; additional 16GB of additional storage space for Soundtrack and LiveType content (can be installed on separate disks)"
    1. I don't need soundtrack, I have better Programs than that, so just Final Cut Express and LiveType, I can install the extra content on my external drive but I need the program and main effects on my Macbook so how much would all this take up on my macbook.
    2. I tried copying my school's livetype from the computer but it just did the program with no effects or anything, does me no good. so I'm just gonna buy my own copy. but where it says 500mb for apps is that what its talking about just basically an empty shell no effects or templates or anything, just a useless program.

  • Adding an "DV NTSC 16:9" preset to LiveType.

I'm well aware of creating 16:9 titles with LiveType by setting the project to NTSC 3:2 and changing the Properties "Pixel Aspect" from 0.90 to 1.19. So, I thought it would be trivial to add the setting to the list of known presets.
I opened /Applications/LiveType/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/ProjectPresets.plist is Property List Editor and added a new preset entry. My new preset had all the values of the NTSC DV 3:2 with only three differences, "name" set to "NTSC DV 16:9", "aspectdenom" set to "100" and "aspectnumer" set to "119" (119/100 = 1.19).
However, the result is very unexpected. When I select the new preset from the list in LiveType, it changes the height to 5.04 in (from ) and height dpi to 95.2 (from 72). The ydpidenom and ydpinumer values in the project presents property list file are the same as from the NTSC DV 3:2 preset (1 and 72, respectively) -- so it SHOULD be 72 dpi, yet it is not.
Any ideas on what's wrong there? What's going on with the new preset?

I have stumbled across the solution. I noticed, with some experimentation, that the only way to get LiveType (version 2.1.4) to properly display with a non-square pixel aspect is to select "Show as Sq. Pixels" from the Zoom popup in the lower left corner of the canvas (there's no menu item for it).
Here's the preset entry, how it appears in LiveType, and the result:

  • Importing LiveType Problems

The DVD Tutorial makes importing LiveType projects look easy but I'm having trouble with my first project.
When I import, it does so without the background I've been using. Then, when I try and insert it into the timeline it gives me a pop up that says "Insufficient content", or some such.
Wondering if this is because my LiveType content is on a separate hard drive than my main one. Otherwise, I have no idea why this is not working.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the family.
When I import, it does so without the background I've been using. <</div>
You must tell LT to include the background. It's a project preference or project setting. If your background is below the separator, you must tell LT to include it. It's easier if you render out your background as a separate movie (or a separate project) and bring it into FCP on its own. That way you have independent control over the timing and positioning.
Then, when I try and insert it into the timeline it gives me a pop up that says "Insufficient content", or some such.< </div>
That's usually only if you're trying to put between two clips or trying to replace a clip with your .ipr clip. Try just placing it manually on an open trakc. Should work.

Nope, that should not affect LT's import or placement in FCP.

  • Remove the "Extras" after they've been installed

Way back when I installed my FC Studio 2 and Shake I also installed all the extra content (optional templates, content, and tutorials etc.) and now in hindsight, I wish I hadn't. Can I just remove/relocate that content and can it be done w/o any adverse effects or will I have to delete and reinstall FCS and Shake? If I can just move/delete them, where are they exactly?
If I have to reinstall Shake, I have another problem. I've misplaced my booklet with the serial number. Can I email tech support for a new one? Will they have record of it from when I registered?

  • Installing FCS2 on MacBook Pro, limited space?

I've been using Final Cut Studio 2 on a Mac Pro with lots of hard drive space. Just recently bought a MacBook Pro to enable editing in the field.
My question is what is necessary to keep on the MacBook, and what isn't? How can I keep the applications and content to a bare minimum, and still have all the tools to edit with?
I purchased an upgrade to FCS2, so I've had to install the whole FCS... AND the upgrade to FCS2... so it's taken up considerable hard drive space. What can I delete?
As an example, I know I'll never use all the LiveType content, so can probably get rid of that. But is there an easy reference somewhere? Are there folders with content, etc, that gets installed by default that I can remove?
    Please help. Thanks!

You do not need to install the original FCS to then install the FCS2 upgrade. All that is required is the serial number.
Do a fresh instal OS then instal the FCS2 upgrade disk entering your upgrade serial number then the original FCS serial number when required. From the install menu you can choose what applications and media you would like installed from the Final Cut suite. So if you didn't want Live Type on your Mac Book Pro then during installation of the FCS2 upgrade you would uncheck the Live Type selection. Same for Motion, STP, Cinema Tools, DVD Studio Pro, etc. just uncheck the apps and/or application media you don't want installed.
FWIW application media is stored by default in Library/Application Support

  • EIS vs Studio

    Hi all,
EIS 11.1.2.1 Vs. Essbase Studio 11.1.2.1...... is there anything EIS can do and Studio cannot?
and what about last release 11.1.2.2
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi(Bonjour)!
FCE HD is a pretty much powerfull app. But in it's 4.0 version you don't have access to Soundtrack 2and to all livetype content. You need this version to do AVCHD.
Once you understand FCE HD editing techniques and workflow (the learnig curve is steppier than iMovie), you understand Final Cut Pro as well and understanding to additionnal PRO features is relatively easy (if you need the professionnal features...).
Final Cut Studio come with a bundle of powerfull app to work the sound (soundtrack pro 2), the titling (Livetype 2 -with full content-, and Motion 3), the color correction (Color), the composition (Motion), the compression (Compressor) and DVD autoriting (DVD Studio Pro).
All those app need to be mastered to use all the power of the suite.
If you want to do DV or HDV or AVCHD in a prosumer context, Final Cut Express is the way to go, it's a real bargain price these days.
If you plan to do professionnal jobs or need more power to tweak other aspects than image editing, (and have the cash), go to FCS 2. After using FCE since 2004, I bought Studio just for Motion 3 and DVD SP 4, but with the time, I'm learning to love all other app from the suite. (but I'm still use FCE for simple straight projects).

  • Final Cut Studio

I purchased Final Cut Studio as a new application not as an upgrade. It downloaded to my computer as an upgrade. Could I have purchased an upgrade for a lessor price and still loaded it to my hard drive?

    It downloaded to my computer...
From "Before You Install Final Cut Studio" documentation:
    "Available Disk Space
    • 4 GB of disk space required to install all applications (Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Soundtrack Pro, Motion, Cinema Tools, LiveType, Compressor, and Apple Qmaster)
    • Additional 42 GB required to install all optional templates, loops, content, and tutorials (may be installed on separate disks):
    • 9 GB for DVD Studio Pro content
    • 8 GB for Motion templates, Motion Series LiveFonts, and tutorial media
    • 8 GB for Soundtrack Pro content
    • 12 GB for LiveType content
    • 5 GB for Apple Pro Training Final Cut Studio Tutorials media"
FCS is available as a download? Where?
