iMovie '08 will import and edit Animation files but it will not export them at the current time. LiveType "renders" to the Animation codec. So if you import the the "rendered" file, then you won't get any output to pass on to iDVD. If you want to impot a LiveType file, do as David said, export the "rendered" file to an iMovie '08 compatible format using correct settings to match the other files your are editing.

  • Can't view markers in LiveType

I can't view markers in Livetype (Using LiveType 2.1 and Final Cut Express HD 3.5.1).
In order to synch a LiveType to audio... I've set up the audio in Final Cut Express, and marked the audio at my placement points...
In Final Cut Express, I select File-Export-For Livetype
    And select All-Markers
    Save it to my desktop
Open it in LiveType (Place background movie)
The background movie is there, but there are no markers.
Any thoughts? This is driving me nuts. I've tried exporting as a self-contained movie and not as a self-contained movie, as audio only, or as audio and video.
    Many thanks,
    Brett

Never used FCE so I assume your workflow is accurate or you've checked it carefully against the manual. Are you attaching markers to the audio clip, the video clip or to the sequence?
In FCP, one can place markers on audio clips separately from video clips. LT has no audio support so that would make it impossible to see audio markers.
I've never used markers to sync in LT, it's a silly way to work. I create all of my LT effects as individual items, designing them with sufficient handles to allow for fades or moves, and composite in FCP. Trying to do more than one thing at a time in LT is uncomfortable.

  • Converting an SD LiveType project to HD?

    Dear LiveType Gurus,
Ok, I spent forever crafting a LiveType 15-second intro to a client's video editing project in SD. When they brought their footage in to edit, it was in an HD format with 16:9 aspect ratio instead. Is there a way to convert the project and resize/center all of the LiveType objects for the new HD/Aspect ratio? Or do I have to rebuild the entire project from scratch?
    Thanks for any help.

There's no way to do this automatically in LiveType. If you change the project settings (which you've probably tried) to HD 16x9 you won't get the results you want.
I've always just changed the settings and then reformatted the layout and sizes by hand. Not so much fun.

  • Livetype to External NTSC Monitor

Is it possible to view Livetype 1.2 on an NTSC monitor?
    Thanks,
    Jon

If your camcorder doesn't support analog-digital passthrough, you will need an analog-digital converter like the Canopus ADVC-110 to connect your NTSC monitor to your Mac. You'll connect via FireWire from your Mac to the converter, and analog (composite or s-video + audio) from the converter to your NTSC monitor.

  • I am trying to use livetype with persian alphabet and it doesn't work. what should I do?

I am trying to use livetype with persian alphabet and it doesn't work. what should I do?

There is no more LiveType with Motion 5.  You may want to go to the Final Cut Express forum, as that's the only place it's existed for the last few years.

  • Importing LiveType project into Final Cut Express HD 3.5

I lost on how to import the livetype project into fce HD 3.5. When I do import it, i get ready to superimpose it over a scene in my movie, and a note comes up and says (insuffciant......something) what am i doing wrong?

I'm assuming you are able to import the LT project into the FCE project and can see it listed in your FCE browser.
Trying simply dragging the file directly from the browser to an empty video track (should be a top/upper level track..not track 1)in the sequence's timeline and place at the point/time/place you want it to appear in the sequence.
You don't have to use the Canvas insert or overlay commands to get the LT project into the timeline.

  • Importing liveType project into Final Cut Express HD

    Hi
When i try to import my Livetype project into FCE an file error pops up with the message "File error: 0 files, 0 acces denied, 1 unknown" In this directory there is only one file with the projectname en de extension ipr.
Those anyone know what the problem is ?
    Thanks in advance
    Tonnie

I encountered the same problem. When I first installed this program I did not install all of it. I went back and installed live type and soundtrack after he fact. Then I started receiving the same error message.
I reinstalled the entire program at one time and now I do not receive that error message. I hope that helps.

  • ITunes won't open - LiveType??

    Hi -
Just yesterday I started having a problem where iTunes won't open. I tried recreating the library - no luck.
Could LiveType be a problem here? How? Why is it even looking for this? Do I need to reinstall something (FCS) to get this all working again?
I looked in the crash log, and found this:
    05/05/2010 22:45:28 UserNotificationCenter[2140] Error loading /Library/QuickTime/LiveType.component/Contents/MacOS/LiveType: dlopen(/Library/QuickTime/LiveType.component/Contents/MacOS/LiveType, 262): Library not loaded: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/LiveType.framework/Versions/A/LiveType
    Referenced from: /Library/QuickTime/LiveType.component/Contents/MacOS/LiveType
    Reason: image not found

Try forcefully opening it by opening Terminal in
/Applications/Utilities and typing in the following
    command followed by return:
    /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes
    Does that work for you?
    -Ryan
    I tried this.
this is what terminal had after "return":
    DigiCoreAudioDriver> Found 9 entries in 'SupportedApps.txt'.
and iTunes does the same thing
control clicking iTunes just says application not responding and i can force quit etc., but it still wont open.
I read the post by KPMAC, the person who trashed the ByHost file,
and found a file similar, and tried trashing it and still no go.
i put the file back where it was, since i didnt get that same
message about that file being a problem.
    any other ideas?
i hope that i am doing the terminal trick correctly.
if i try that, it tries to open iTunes, and i get the same result,
and then i wait. then after a long wait i force quit iTunes,
    and terminal reports: Terminated
    please help if you can.
this is really frustrating and i have had this problem for a couple
    of months now.
i also have a digidesign 001, with protools LE 6.4.
and i have read the issues with protools, tried those suggestions
also to no avail, but those problems were with different protools
devices, etc. and itunes and protools have both been on this
computer for a few years. Quicktime also no longer works,
as i have read that others have this same problem.
    thank you for your time

  • Can you adjust track lengths of livetype when in FCE?

Was wondering if it is possible to adjust the duration of a livetype track (.ipr file) in FCE without going back and editing the original .ipr file in livetype. There is no animation, it is just a straight text track. Seems like that would be a simple thing to do, since you can do it with tiff images and photoshop files.

Have you tried using the *Ripple Tool* (RR) in the timeline to adjust its duration? That should work for the file as a whole. If you want to adjust particular layers within the LiveType file you have to go back and edit it in the application.

  • Why Does Text From Livetype & Motion Look Bad in FCP?

    Am I doing something wrong?
When I design a simple project in Livetype or Motion with white text on a black background, the text looks really bad (very unsharp and not straight lines) once it is rendered out as an NTSC DV Movie. Really, it isn't only FCP that displays it this way. When I open the file in Quik Times Player, it looks just a bad. Is there some setting you can think of that might cause this? Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

Neither Canvas nor QT Player really constitute monitoring.
Ideally you should be looking at an external CRT to see what you've got.
Lacking that, set your Canvas to 100% and uncheck Square Pixels so at least you're seeing pixel for pixel.
    Set RT to Safe.
Set your render settings to the highest all around. This is done unfortunately in several places.
Check the Motion tab for your Motion and Livetype imported clips. Make sure they aren't being resized.
    Check back.

  • Photoshop files into LiveType

    Hi everyone.
I was wondering if anyone of you knew how to import a photoshop cs2 file into LiveType without merging all the layers and being able to modify the already existing text created on Photoshop.
Every time I import a photoshop file with several layers, containing text on each layer the file comes up as a 1 layer image, meaning that I cannot modify the existing text. The only workaround that i've found has been to redo all the images on LiveType, but that is very time consuming for several "slides."
I am using LiveType 2.1, Final Cut Pro 5.1 and Photoshop CS2.
Any ideas, suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

About AE...I've use that before but I honestly don't like the final product that you get out of it. I dunno, to me motion and now livetype seem like....liquid, while After Effects still seems cartoonish. dunno another way to explain it.< < </div>
Bizarre observation, utterly unfounded position to assume. AE's output is a direct result of design decisions or operator error.
I do understand that fact that it requires another workflow, but I was assuming now that Photoshop has become a standard format for input and output (even Maya uses it, which they don't import/export from/to any other program).< </div>
This is an incorrect assumption and a dangerously myopic misperception. Photoshop is not a standard for anything. CS supports a large collection of "standard" image formats including psd, png, dng, pdf, jpg, tif, gif. While there are standards defined for formats, there are no standard production tools in this industry. Not a single one.
Besides that, there is the fact of simplicity. It is much harder on AE to great an animated text than just select special effects/glow...done.< </div>
I'm not commenting on this except to say one learns to use the tools one has at one's disposal or one learns to use the tools for which one has an affinity.

  • LiveType SLOW.. OSX 10.5 Virtual Mem Hog Questions.

First - need to vent some - Sorry. You don't have to say it - I have an older machine. -BUT- I am really confused by some of the statements I am reading about Virtual RAM usage associate with MAC apps. Many in Mac Support worlds are suggesting the age old Microsoft solution - just add more ram or a bigger drive. Horse hockey. I have programmed Windows, Unix, OSX and Linux - the real answer typically is - how many "no-ops did they program in their code to force user hardware upgrades to new systems" and how tight is their code. I'd like to believe that MAC application developers are somewhat better than those in Microsoft. To say I'm miffed isn't coming close. OKAY-Enough for venting. Lets shift to problem solving.
    *The Problem At Hand.*
Am running OSX 10.5 with FinalCut Express 4.0 and Livetype (i.e. LT) 2.1.4. Attempting a test of scrolling credits of 40 seconds at DV quality (29.97 fps)-hence 1200 frames. Just text - black on wht bkgnd - no video background. No other applications running except Activity Monitor. This rendering took 6 hrs 58 min - totally unacceptable. Processing averaged 95% of total CPU cycles for both processors for nearly 7 hrs. Interesting that multithreading is occurring but not consistently across both processors - seems in most cases to promote an OR operation not an AND - whose brain child was that one. Although less than 50% of literal RAM is being totally utilized by all processes, LT consumes only 70Megs - yet also allocates and consumes 1.8Gig of Virtual - what gives? Many times, the LT process would hang showing (not responding), but would only last for 2-3 seconds before resuming, and ever so often would log statistics of shared memory to be 16,xxx,xxx.00(TB) - where the 'x's would vary but still a huge number. Any clues on that one either?
In all, my dual 1GHz processors may be arguably slower than the newer quad-core models, but lets do the math. A 32 or 64 bit architecture clocking at parallel 1GHz rates is a huge amount of bits. With a 32bit bus thats 32 Billion Bits each second (bps) or with a 64bit buss (64 B bps). As such, 1200 DV quality frames at 720x480 resolution (345.6kb ea) is 414.72Mb total. I realize that vectoring and other video mathematics need to take place –BUT- even if this adds a factor of 10x this now implies 4.1472Gb implying processing time of 0.13 seconds to process 1200 DV frames –or- half of that for a 64 bit buss – and for a single processor. Reverse engineering shows an interesting picture – 7hours of 95% dual processor utilization for a 32 bit architecture is 1532.16 Tb (at 25,200 s) implying nearly 4.4B DV frames –or- 42,000 HOURS of DV video for 7hrs of 95% processing horsepower. Something is really wrong here.
I am told by MAC support that my Video cards ALU does little for MAC video applications leaving most of the job to the CPU's - a real shame. I also do not quite know how to factor into the clocking equation RAM transfer speed for PC2700. Since there is so much virtual ram shifting occurring - I presume that this converts hard drive space for RAM - I have basic 100MBs transfer rates at 7200RPMs – hence another potential limiting factor.
    Questions.
    1. If Virtual mem is slowing this - how do I shift to actual ram within OSX10.5?
    2. In LT, how does one start and stop the Inspector window? Need to shut it off or at least pause it.
    3. Any thoughts toward why OSX10.5 apps take lots of virtual ram at the expense of actual ram?
    4. Any thoughts to speeding up LT in general?
    Thanks,
    Davidpic

  • Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 problems with LiveType & uninstall/reinstall missingCD

Hi there. I am actually crossing my fingers hoping that people can help me with this issue of mine.
I have been using full version of FCP HD 4.5 for a long while then I moved from an apt to a new apt, then I realized some of my previous FCP projects would not opened. After a long while figuring out what was the problem, and I realized if any of my projects that contain any LiveType project, my projects will not open. Why? I have no idea why? I am hoping someone might have the answer for this.
So... I thought I would uninstall and reinstall everything, then I realized I might have misplaced my Final Cut install CD Luckily, I didn't delete the FC, so I decided to leave it on my hard drive. I went ahead and reinstall the rest, but I noticed LiveType doesn't show up at all except I was able to see LiveType Data. I couldn't see/find the LiveType Icon except the folder of LiveType Data. My another question is... was I supposed to have a LiveType installation CD along with the LiveType Data CD or that was the only installation CD I'm supposed to have? I thought I still have the list of items that Im supposed to have that came in the FCP HD 4.5 box... apparently, that is misplaced!
    Can anyone answer my questions--
    1. Why my FCP projects would not opened because of problems with LiveType & what is the problem?
    2. Was I supposed to have a LiveType installation CD along with the LiveType Data CD or that was the only installation CD I'm supposed to have?
    3. Is there a specific order that I am supposed to install FCP HD? Like I should install FCP first, then Motion 2nd, LiveType 3rd, & so forth? If so, please share it with me
    4. Can anyone please share with me on what installation CDs I was supposed to have from FCP HD 4.5? I want to make sure I have everything, which I know I do not, or I can look for specific CD(s).
This is what I have (they may be for other program that I must have mixed it all together)--
    1. Final Cut Pro HD HD Sampler (obviously that is NOT the actual FCP HD 4.5 installation CD, right?)
    2. Motion Install
    3. Motion Content
    4. Apple Loops for Soundtrack
    5. DVD Studio Pro 3
    6. Live Type Data (1 of 2)
    7. Live Type Data (2 of 2)
    8. Peak 3 Express
Any suggestions or answers will be SO MUCH appreciated!
Thank you for taking the time to read this and answer my questions if you can

    Thank you, Nick.
Shoot. That means I did misplaced my FCP installation disk!
I still don't understand why my FCP projects that contains LiveType wouldn't opened! I need to get most of them opened! Argggghhh.
I am curious ... is there any other program similar to LiveType (like creating exciting texts) that I can use to work with FCP?
    Lemme know! Thanks

  • LiveType to DVD Studio Menu

I am working on a project that needs to have some text that looks like it is being typed on papyrus and scrolls up the screen on the DVD menu. The DVD contains standard definition NTSC video and the DVD menu in question is set to "Letterbox Pan & Scan".
I have a project that does what I need in Livetype and the previews looks very nice, but when the DVD menu is simulated or built the text looks pretty blocks.
What are the best settings in Livetype/DVD Studio Pro to get this scrolling text to look sharp on the final menu? OR is this a pipe dream? And if so, any suggestions on a better method to achieve this effect with Final Cut Studio?
    Thanks,
    Sean

I have DVD Studio pointing straight to the IPR file and have burnt the project to dvd, but while most of it looks great, the scrolling text is really very unsatisfactory.< </div>
In theory, your method should yield the best possible image. But "blocky" still doesn't tell me much about your objections. It's difficult to know where to tell you to start looking for a solution and you've probably tried these: Try to render the animation in an FCP timeline and export that movie back to DVDSP. Or you can force it to render out of LT and use the Animation codec movie in DVDSP.

  • Aspect Ratio between FCE and LiveType

I've been working on a project in FCE 3.5 and doing titles in LiveType 2.1. I noticed that when I import into LiveType there is a thin checkered line at the bottom of the video window. When I looked at the aspect ratio setting in the Livetype "Project Properties" it was set on "CCIR 601 NTSC" which has an aspect ratio of 720x486. In my FCE project, my clips are all 720x480, which seems to explain the thin checkered line. So I went back to Livetype and changed the aspect ratio to 720x480. Sure enough, the checkered line was gone, but the mode automatically changed from "CCIR 601 NTSC" to "NTSC DV 3:2". The problem is that my clips in FCE have the "CCIR 601" pixel aspect, but not the 720x486 aspect ratio that Livetype associates with that. Eventually I'm hoping to export this to DVD.
My questions are: is this something I should worry about? Should I use the 720x486 or 720x480 aspect ratio in LiveType?
    Thanks

Type cmd+zero and open the project properties in LiveType. then choose DV NTSC for the properties... you'll be good to go.
