Living in Spain

Hi Guys. Am spending some months in Spain and will be taking a Macbook Air.  The house where i'm stying does not have a phoneline (!).  What is the best way to go online?  Does a dongle work?  Should it be bought in the UK or in Spain?  How do the relative costs work out?
Thanks all
Scobie

The iPhone supports tethering a Mac as do multiple Adroid devices and dedicated hot-spot servers.  To use your cellphone in Spain it will need to be internationally GSM compatible and most likely unlocked and then you can subscribe to one of the Spanish cellular companies to get a compatible SIM.  Check with your cellphone vendor to see if you current cellphone is internationally GSM compatible and if it supports LTE and if you need to unlock it for international compatibility.
If you have had your cellphone for the requisite amount of time (40 days with T-Mobile, the end of your contract for other carriers) and you have a current contract with your USA cellular company, they will unlock your phone with no hassle.  Some carriers will make exceptions to unlock your phone before the requisite time if you say you will be traveling internationally.
3G is somewhat OK for tethering but 4G-LTE is much better.  If you do not have 4G-LTE compatible cellphone or hot-spot device I recommend you get one for your prolonged stay in Spain.  This may be a great opportunity to upgrade to an iPhone 5/5c/5s.  I am upgrading from my AT&T unlocked iPhone 4 to a 5s for this reason.  The iPhone 4s is GSM internationally travel compatible but I don't think it supports LTE.
According to http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/ Spanish companies that support LTE are
Orange
Telefonica
Vodafone
Yoig
Buena suerte y gracias por todos los peces.

    Hi Paul ...
View or purchase? For purchasing, your credit or debit card credentials must be associated with the same country where you reside.
"Although you can browse the iTunes Store in any country without being signed in, you can only purchase content from the iTunes Store for your own country. This is enforced via the billing address associated with your credit card or other payment method that you use with the iTunes Store, rather than your actual geographic location."

  • Use iTunes Store in france when living in SPAIN.

I created an iTunes Store account when living in France. I now live in Spain and can't pay for my purchases with a Spanish credit card. Does anyone know if there's a solution ?

Create an account on the Spanish iTunes Store.
Due to regional and national laws to make purchases in a particular store you must have a valid credit card drawn on a local bank and have an address in that country.

  • Living in Spain but buying Blackberry from Amazon UK

I live permanently in Spain but am considering buying a 8520 from Amazon in the UK because the prices are almost 50 percent less than they are here in Spain. If I put in my local Pay As You Go SIM card into my new Blackberry will everything function correctly. Sorry if this is a dumb question but what I know about mobiles can be written on a pin head.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
To make purchases from any Apple online stores you must use the store for the country in which you reside, if paying with a bank card it must be a verifiable card from a bank in the country where you live with a verifiable billing address in the country where you live.

  • I am Italian, living in Spain. Help

I Would like to get downloadable content in english or Italian but iTunes is showing only Spanish.
Note I only have a Spanish credit card and bank account.
    Thanks

sfrattini, please go leave feedback although I am not sure that Apple listen much to us users. The way this works is backward and they need to know that in other parts of the world outside the states that people live in countries that speak different languages than their mother togue. It really does my head in when developers from the USA write these web syatems and just don't understand that in Europe there are a lot of languages over a small area and people move around a lot, it is only common sense that account holders should be able to set their account language for any language they want. I remember another very large online service that was written for every language but if in Spain the English language was not available!!!!! why not, not everyone that used the system in Spain was Spanish, how out of touch can the people that run these system be.
So please go and give off to feeback.

  • Using Uk ITunes while living in Spain

I am moving to spain for 2 years and currently have an UK iPhone 4 (unlocked) which I want to take with me. Over there I will use a spanish micro sim with it. But I want to know if I can still access my Uk iTunes account on my iPhone and laptop (also taking with me).  I will still have a Uk debit card/ bank account to use for purchases, the same one I'm using with ITunes now. I do not want to sign up to a Spanish iTunes, I want to keep my English one.
I would also like to know if all the apps I have downloaded will still work while in Spain, Ie: Facebook, twitter, etc...
    Many thanks

You won't be able to make new iTunes Store purchases from the UK store, but your previous ones will continue to work.

  • Is it possible to change the spell check dictionary in "pages for iPad" from Spanish to UK English?  The app was downloaded in Spain.

Is it possible to change the spell check dictionary in “pages for iPad” from Spanish to UK English?  The app was purchased in Spain and I am living in spain temporarily

Spell checking should be based on the keyboard layout that you've got selected in Settings > General > Keyboard > International Keyboards - if you have an English 'UK keyboard' selected then the spell checking should be English

  • German iTunes Store in Spain

i´m german. living in spain and would like use iTunes store Germany. But its not possible to setup a account. Always i become a error message credit cards from spain not accepted in german iTunes store? Why not? i can also buy in german apple store with the same cc.
Please let me in the german store too!
    Kind regards from spain
...a unlucky german iTunes user in spain

You must have a credit card with a billing address within the country of the store you're buying from. Probably not Apple's choice but a matter of legalities, taxes, etc.

  • Living outside the UK

I am an Scotsman living in Spain, my Spanish is very limited, my bank account is in England and yet I cannot get iTunes in English as my billing address is in Spain. I also cannot get the free downloads that are offered every week as I am not in the US. I also cannot find the way to download films, which I was under the impression I could do for a fee.
      Windows XP

    1. If you still have a UK credit card & billing address, you can set up a second account in the UK store with that info.
    2. The above applies to the free downloads available in the UK store.
    3. Movie content is only available in the US store at the present time. Until the major studios authorize Apple to distribute outside the US, there is nothing Apple can do.

  • Hoy to Watch US movies in their original version when in Spain

Presently living in Spain, bought an Apple TV here, but I cannot watch movies except for the dubbed version, which is hideous when you are used to the original version.
Is there a way I can switch the country without having to change my Visa card ( which is issued in Spain).

Content available will difer depending on location due to licensing. A valid Credit Card and billing address is required to access/purchase from US store.

  • How to fix, from spain, an iphones' 5 cracked screen bought in the US

I bought my iphone 5 last feb in the US and am living in spain because of work. Just broke the screen and want to get it fixed. Since i bought it last feb its still in the one year warranty. Do anyone know how can I get it fixed from here?

The warranty is not international. But a cracked screen is not covered by warranty. You can get the screen replaced in the US for $150 or an out of warranty replacement at a US Apple store. But you would have to do it in the US.
You can try at an Apple Store in Spain, but do not get your hopes up, as the policy is that you can only get service (warranty or out of warranty) in the country the phone was purchased in.

  • Just because I live in Spain, doesn't mean I speak Spanish...

I am a Canadian living in Spain, and while I am trying to learn Spanish, mi español es terrible.
I just bought a new 8 gb Nano. I can't open an account from Spain in English. I can't enter a credit card from Nat West in the UK and I can't browse the Spanish iTunes store in English.
My billing address for my Nat West card is in Spain, but when I enter the card number while trying to set up an account, it tells me it's not a valid card for Spain.
This service is pretty much useless to me as far as I can tell.
For as forward thinking as Apple is supposed to be, this is pretty backwards. We're living in a world where people travel and work abroad.
