LMS 3.0.1 / CM 5.0.2 / Questions on Campus (bug and feature)

Hello Community..
I had two questions regarding Campus Manager [LMS 3.0.1 / CM 5.0.2].
1/ My customer is using a background image with the topology map (representing the country map where icons are placed on each city).
When closing the map and opening it again it has been reported me icons are not saved on their previous position and no longer reflects their cities.
After going through the forum it should be due to bug CSCse24944. In the bug details we see CM 4.0 is impacted but I do not see any next release where it is fixed in.
I wanted to confirm if CM 5.0.2 is affected ? And confirm also there is no workaround at this time ?
2/ I understand that without CDP, there will be no links between devices in the map. Due to security mesures CDP must be deactivated so we enter in the best practices deviations.
My question is : Do you think that asking to my Cisco representative for a feature request allowing to manually draw a link between icons would be too irrealistic, given the technical context and conditions of CM ?
I hope the questions are not strange...
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks and regards.
Karim

1. Yes, that is the bug and there is no workaround other than not using a background image.  It is not planned to be fixed in the current incarnation of Campus Manager.
2. This is a commonly requested feature and may very well happen at some point in the future.  It would not hurt to have your account team build a business case to get this implemented.

  • Adobe Captivate 4 - Tracking AICC to the LMS issue

    Hi,
I created a Captivate 4 Quiz; I published the Quiz with the AICC reporting option and as a result Captivate 4 created the files shown below:
I hosted all these files in the same server, same folder, and same domain where the Isoph Blue (Learn Something) LMS is installed. I also published the course from the LMS and it seems to be OK.
When participants login and launch the course from the LMS the course works very well. All questions are shown, correct and incorrect answers are also shown at the end. The quiz window is closed at the end without problem.
The issue is that there is not notification to the LMS of course completion, the Icon (located on the right of the image shown below) that tells the participant course is completed does not change the status. It does not change from Launch to Print Certificate status.
The Captivate is not tracking correctly course completion to the LMS. So, we can not track user activity neither print the certificate at the end of the course.
Can you please help me troubleshoot this issue?
What can I do to make this course completion notification works with the LMS?
I can provide more information, files and details on how I created the course, etc.
Note: Isoph Blue is AICC compatible, there are other (*.aspx) courses that are tracked via AICC and they are tracked correctly, the issue is only with Captivate 4. We also have Captivate 3.

    Hi there
I certainly cannot claim to be any sort of expert on the H.264 format, but Captivate 4 only produces SWF, EXE and AVI formats. So you are correct in that you would need to convert from either the SWF or AVI format to an H.264 format. From what I understand, AVI and MP4 are the two file extensions you may find H.264 file format used. So I suppose it's possible to say that if you have a CODEC (Compressor/Decompressor) installed for H.264, Captivate could spit out an AVI encoded in H.264 format.
More information on H.264 at the links below:

  • LMS will not refresh after course is closed

    Hello,
I am hoping someone can give me insight into what might be causeing this problem.
I have a number of courses uploaded to both a staging site and a live site. We recently made a few changes to a course which I thought were quite minor and I uploaded the new scorm files to the LMS staging site for testing.
    The changes were:
the continue button on the Quiz Review slide has always had the text "exit" instead of "continue" but I recently changed the colour from grey to red.
the message that a user received when they pass the quiz is different
The old courses worked on both sites as follows:
If a course was started and a user quite part way through the course the LMS would say resume course when the user logged back in.
If the course was failed then the user would see retake on the LMS when they logged back in and could then retake the course.
If the user passed the course, it was moved from an "In Progress"  area on the LMS to a "Completed" area on the LMS automatically.
Since I made the relatively minor changes to the courses, they will no longer move unless you choose to refresh the page. All courses that have not been updated still work as they should which is what leads me to believe it is not a LMS issue but rather the scorm file issue.
I am using Captivate 7 and have recently updated all my Adobe products so I should have the most recent version of the software. I am wondering if something has changed with how Captivate creates Scorm files?
Also under Reporting/advanced LMS for the courses I have selected Send data on every slide and Set exit to normal after completion (these have always been the settings)
    Scorm files are SCORM 2004
Any input would be very much appreciated.

    Hi Rod,
I could be wrong but I don't think that is the issue.
The updated courses are only on the staging site as we do not transfered them until they are tested. Only those courses that have been recently updated are not working properly but I know that the correct course is being loaded as the button on the Quiz Review is now red. Yesterday I did a test on the live site and uploaded one of the updated courses to see if the problem persisted on the live site. Same problem was on the live site. When I removed this undated course and reverted back to the original the problem went away. It seems it is definitely an issue with the newly updated course.
The courses were oringinaly created using Captivate 6 but then saved in Cativate 7 months ago as I have been using it since if first came out. The original files that were working were created in Captivate 7.
    Thanks

  • Problems LMS-4.2 Installation on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1

    Hi all,
During the installation of the LMS-4.2,
It passed the "Initializing" and "Copying" stages,
but, in the "Configuring", it never finishes,
Anyone had have a similar problem?
the installer is for - LMS-4.2 and the OS is Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1

Thanks for the update. Glad to know it has installed now.
There can be some port clashes and resource scarcity when other applications may be using it. Hence we recommend to have majorly LMS as the primary software on the server's.
Also, LMS is not supported in other languages installers or setups except English and Japanese.
There are a couple more things you can do/check prior to running the installation.
LMS generally need Naming convention to handle long names/path etc. By default C: has 8.3 Naming convention enabled. However if you installed on different drive (for eg E:), for which this may be disabled.
To check naming convention you can run the following command from Windows Command prompt:
                                       cmd>fsutil.exe 8dot3name query <Drive>
    Example:
    C:\Users\winlau>fsutil 8dot3name query C:
The volume state for Disable8dot3 is 0 (8dot3 name creation is enabled).
The registry state of NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation is 2, the default (Volume level setting).
Based on the above two settings, 8dot3 name creation is enabled on C:.
8dot3 needs to be enabled for all drives LMS will potentially use, including:
    Drive where TEMP/TMP is located
The drive LMS is installed to
The drive LMS backs up to
Drive used for a relocated RME Shadow directory or other nonstandard paths written to.
In some cases, altering the TEMP and TMP variables to be a short path (eg C:/temp or C:/tmp) may avoid the issue, but not always.
Hence, to be safe, it is best to enable 8dot3name creation globally, either via the registry or Windows CLI
    Sample command to enable globally:
      "fsutil 8dot3name set 0"
Sample command to enable on one volume:
      "fsutil 8dot3name set X: 0"
Note that this needs a reboot to take effect.  You should not disable 8dot3name creation which already has it enabled, especially the system volume (usually C:).

  • Display issues with languages other than English (also related: slide results not reporting to LMS)

    Running: Captivate 6
    I'm having two
issues that I thought was only tied to Cyrillic characters, but appears to be with multiple languages (confirmed with Brazillian Portugese, Latin American Spanish, Swedish and Russian).
    1. Quiz Pass/Fail result message appearing truncated (top and bottom of message is cut off, or message appears wrapped and overlaps)
I've attempted converting the text to a UTF-8 format and tried that as well, but had no success.
    2. We have a 108 slide test created in Captivate v6; the English version pushes all 108 slide results to our LMS without issue. When we created the version in Russian, one slide refused to push slide results.
    Steps to confirm/resolve:
I've confirmed the settings are identical on the project and on the slide between both the EN and RU versions
I've pasted the russian text into the working EN project and published/tested and that particular slide does not push results to the LMS (the only thing changed was the text on the existing slide)
I've tried duplicating working slides and replacing text; it fails to report
I've tried converting the text to a UTF-8 format and replacing the text; again it fails to push slide results to our LMS
I've tried about every option I can to get the RU version fo the test working (pushing results for all 108 slides); Out of desperation I've created a work around which is putting the question and answer options in as images (not text) and then the test pushes all 108 slide results. This leads me to believe that the issue is regarding how the font is viewed/read by Captivate 6 and ultimately reported to our LMS (SABA).
I've reached out to our localization company (SDL) and their only suggestion was the UTF-8 formatting (which failed).
    Please help! Thanks!!

  • Error in Communicating with DCR Server LMS 4.0

I´m receiving this error when I try do add a device in isolated form or by discovery:
Error in communicating with DCR Server.
DCR Server may be down. Please start the DCR Server and then refresh the page.
I am using windows 2008 standard server RC1 SP1, and CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.
I had applied all of patches includes.
The DCRserver is running. ( I did restart it)

You're using Windows 2008 RC1 (a release candidate version)?  LMS is only supported on the final shipping version of Windows 2008, and not yet on R2.
If you're running on the final version of 2008 server, post the output of the pdshow command as well as the dcr.log, DCRServer.log, NMSROOT/MDC/tomcat/logs/stdout.log and stderr.log.

  • Help needed with LMS Reporting Settings

I am new to Captivate and am working with 5.5 to create a number of large courses.
The first course, I have split over 5 captivate files as there are a large number of slides in each file.  I have reviewed the Help PDF on Learning Management System, but am struggling to find the correct settings in the Reporting Preferences to suit my needs.
    Course structure:
File 1     -     less than 100 slides, includes question slides not set as reporting, non score-reporting objects
File 2     -     less than 100 slides, includes question slides not set as reporting, non score-reporting objects
File 3     -     more than 100 slides, includes question slides not set as reporting, non score-reporting objects
File 4     -     more than 100 slides, includes question slides not set as reporting, non score-reporting objects
File 5     -     less than 100 slides, includes question slides as score-reporting objects and other non score-reporting objects (final quiz to be reported and scored in LMS)
I envisaged using Slide Views Only in the first 4 files, and then Quiz Results and Slide Views in the last file.
However, these two choices only seem to allow a maximum of 100 Slides - is this correct?, is there no way around this?
There is another course in our series with much more slides than this first one so having to split into files of 100 could mean
up to 12 captivate files in one course.
I don't know if I now need to re-think the structure of the courses.  Maybe I have completely misunderstood the Quiz Reporting
    and Reporting Scores.
I need to be able to have the Learner click their way through the course, making it highly-interactive for them but at the same
time not scoring everything they click, until they reach the final assessment which is 10 questions and scored in %.
Another thing, after numerous tests, it seems that if I untick the 'Never Send Resume Data' then the 2nd file does not open.  Leaving
it ticked will open the 2nd file - but then the progress is not saved if the Learner exits the course before finishing.  Has anyone
    experienced this before?
I also would like clarification on the Manifest Settings, the 'Identifier' - should I be giving each file a unique number, or does it not
really matter?  When we purchased 5.5, we did not know that we would need the Multi-SCO Packager, so have tried an alternative
called Reload Editor timebeing, which we have been using for our testing with collating the files - has anyone used this before?  I have
tried to download the free trial of elearning suite 2.5 but I am having problems getting it done.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks

The number 100 shown in Slide View Completion is the % of the total number of slides, not the number of slides from 1-100.
Your strategy of breaking the course up into smaller modules like this is a good one.
But if you have only one of the 5 modules that has scoring, you might be wise to add at least one scored object to each of the other modules (perhaps a button on the first or second slide with a nominal score of 1 point) to give the project at least some kind of a score.  I find that in some LMSs if one module in a course is scored, they expect ALL the others to also have a score as well.  So providing some surreptitious method of giving the user a guaranteed score keeps everything working on an even keel.
Set Report Status as Pass/Fail and Report to LMS as Percent.  These are the settings I find most reliable.
When using multi-SCO SCORM packages created with Captivate, whether or not the second file in the sequence of modules opens automatically is something you are supposed to set up in the LMS, not in Captivate.  Look for an option called Auto Continue or similar.  This is supposed to mean that when the user finishes playing each module, the next one will open automatically.
There are two Identifiers you need to specify in each module.  One is the SCORM course identifier and all modules that belong to the same course should share this same ID.  The other is the SCO ID for each module, and these should all be unique.

    No change...
What I noticed when looking directly into CMF database is that "CampusOgsGroupCacheTable" is completely empty where as the following tables contain data:
        CampusOgsGroupPropertiesTable
        CampusOGSTagTable
        CampusUserGroupAssociationTable
What could be the reason for this behaviour?
I yet thought about the option to export all the groups from CMF (or at least the campus groups) and drop all tables from OGS and re-importing the groups but when I try to do this I get the following error:

after stopping and starting CampusOGSServer (pdterm/pdexec) the device selector in UT was up and running again ...
I did a test with setting

It looks like this line (no matter if set to 0 or 1) seems to break "campus CTM" on this server...

    3) I found CampusOgsGroupCacheTable in cmf database to be empty on 2 different lms 3.2 installations (both solaris) but I cannot believe that this is ok due to some stored procedures pointing to this table to keep it on sync with CampusOgsGroupPropertiesTable

  • Slide views only to be reported, but grade is reporting to lms as 0 instead of n/a

My client has a number of quiz questions throughout their course. They asked that the quiz be set up to allow infinite attempts until the learner gets the answer right, and that there are no points or grade associated with the quiz. I've set up each question as a quiz question, but set the grade to be 0. I did it as a quiz question as there are matching type questions, multiple choice, etc. and I found it valuable to have the structure in place to add in the content. The reporting preferences are set up as to report back slide views only, but when this file communicates with the LMS, it is reporting back a pass/complete but giving a grade of 0. I'd like it to show up as n/a under the grade rather than 0.
Also, this course isn't booking marking and learners aren't happy because when they go back in their answers aren't saving. As well, the client wanted backward movement to be allowed but when the learner clicks the back button to go back through the slides, it automatically resets the question slides and they have to re-answer them to continue. Is there a way to change a setting so that the answers will stay in place?
And my last question (promise, sorry for so many) under the quiz settings and then required there are 4 options. I'm just wondering if anyone can explain these 4 options and what each do, so that I can make sure I'm selecting the best one. Up until now it's been a trial/error type of thing, but it would be great if anyone can share some additional info.

Thanks so much! I'm the only one working in Captivate, and so I can't even tell you how helpful it is to have replies and people that understand what I'm asking.
I looked into the manifest file, but I couldn't seem to find the masteryscore text. Here's a copy and paste of my manifest file. Am I missing something?

  • Is there a debug mode for Presenter SWF published to a custom LMS?

I've implemented a simple LMS interface (API_1484_11) in JavaScript on the page that loads the SWF generated by Presenter. The SWF is playing fine, and it appears to call the API_1484_11.Initialize() method, but then doesn't call any of my Commit(), GetValue(), or SetValue() methods. Weird thing is that is used to work fine, and I can't figure out what I changed that would break it.
In my Presenter presentation, the Quiz Manager settings have these reporting options:
    - LMS set to SCORM (Manifest set to 2004 type)
    - Report data set to quiz results and slide views
    - Pass or fail set to report complete/incomplete
    - Score set to report as percent
    - Level set to report interactions and the score
Is there any way to tell the SWF to run in a debug mode so it will provide some sort of information or feedback about what it is doing regarding the LMS interface?

Ugh. So I quit out of my browser and restarted, and now the Presenter Flash is communicating with my mini-LMS interface properly. After Initialize() it calls getValue() and asks for cmi.location, cmi.score._children, etc. values. I think I've seen this happen before, where if I accidentally have two windows with a Presenter Flash object in them, they both stop working with the LMS API until I quit and restart my browser. (I'm on a Mac with Firefox but have seen this on Windows with IE, too, I think.)
But still, I'm wondering if there are any debugging tricks with the Presenter Flash object... or any API documentation for it?

  • Captivate 5 question and answer data not showing up in Connect 8 LMS

I'm using Captivate 5 and Adobe Connect 8 for an LMS.  I can publish lessons and quizzes directly into Connect with no problem.  Taking the quizzes works fine.  I have a problem with the reporting of quizzes. The scores are correct but I often don't get all of the questions listed when I look at the reports.  A 10 question quiz might show 1 question and answer.  Again, the score reflects 10 questions answered but when viewing the report "By Question" only one question shows.  I cannot see any settings that are different on the visible question.  Has anybody else seen this?
    Message was edited by: GBayl

For what it's worth I think I solved my own problem.  The quizzes that were messed up were all udated from Captivate 4.  This made all of the Interation IDs the same for all of the questions on each quiz.  The IDs must be unique for the system to report results from each question.  If you try to change an ID, the rest of the question IDs change also.  To change the IDs so they will all be unique, select all of the questions in a quiz and enter CNTRL-D to duplicate them.  It doesn't matter if they are in a pool or in the main project. Then deleted the originals.  The new questions will all have new and unique IDs.  I don't know why this works but it does.  I hope someone finds this useful.

  • Cisco LMS 3.2 SYSLOG not storing after 10 days

    Hi ,
Im facing one issue with Cisco LMS 3.2
Issue : The logs is generating only for 10 days and post that im not able to see the logs. I have not done any config changes. The only change i have done is i have completely reinstalled the LMS. i did multiple troubleshoot but not able to resolve this isse. It would be great If any some one is  able to help me in this isse.  Thanks.
    Regards,
    Juliet

    Dear Vinod
Thanks for ur response and the problem has been resolved.
The purge policy was set to 60 days only .The problem in reports viewing setting.
Syslog folder under LMS would store syslog reports of both the device as well as applications for defined folder size , which in your case was 1 MB ( same can be viewed under log generator option).  The  older reports would get deleted from the folder upon reaching the limit.
The only way to view device syslog is under following option :  Reports -> Reports Generator  in LMS  GUI where we will have to choose syslog with desired attribute.
    Regards,
    Juliet

  • Troubles with LMS and Explorer

    Goodmorning everybody,
The past two months i've been trying to create a aw-piece
that works in a LMS (SABA).
Finally, technical speaking, it works. Still I have my doubts
    about it....
First, i've have used a java-code which communicates with the
lms, this code was from an existing
file called 'Testbed', came along with AW, after a lot of
puzzling it works. Still initializing the LMS takes a lot of time
Sometimes about 10, 15 seconds. I've also used the KO LMS
Initialize, it takes even longer, 30 seconds. Is this
normal ? Because in the CBT there are also questions, and i'm
writing the results, questions-id e.g to the LMS,
it also takes 3 or 4 seconds. Normal ?
The version of java we use is 1.4.2. We have notices that
older versions don't work with SABA. At home I have version Java
    1.5
It seems to me it works better, but is this a feeling or
    fact?
On the other hand, the course runs on our intranet, and i
can't figure out how much effect the server has on the
performance of the CBT. After starting up the java console
(and the cbt), i'm able to see two messages which alert me,
first the message 'connection thread gets into wait', and
straight after,10 or 20 seconds later
'failed to assert permission from microsoft policy engine'.
After this message, everything works, data is transmitted and
the cbt/lms works. It doesn't matter whether i use my own
code or the lms-KO's, i always see these messages.
Does anybody recognize the messages, and know where they come
from, and can i do anything about them?
Last point. I notice that sometimes, say one out of fifteen
times starting the cbt, the explorer 'is not responding' when
    quitting
the cbt. It always happens when i'm quitting the cbt, never
during start up. Is this a known problem ? Has it something to do
    with
the LMS, or communication. I have no idea, but it irretates
me a lot to see so this message. The trainee has to do the whole
course again, because aw failed to write it's data to the LMS.
Finally, has somebody published pieces running and
communicating with the LMS SABA before. Did it all work, any nasty
bugs or other bad experiences ?
I hope i've given enough information to receive some help
    from you,
    thanks on forhand,
    greetings Marc

    This sounds pretty complex!
My first thought is to blame the LMS. Do you have any
    non-Authorware
    courses which do work correctly?
There should be no need to have a JRE (Java Runtime)
    installed, unless
the LMS requires it. For the LMS I most often use (Inquisiq),
    Javascript
is used to handle the communication between the SCO and the
    LMS API, not
Java...but Java is certainly an alternative and could indeed
    be what
Saba used to create their API...
The communication with the API should certainly not take too
    long -
especially on an intranet - unless a lot of info is being
    passed. The
biggest delays I notice in our work is when I'm saving quiz
    results and
bookmarks, and even then it's not more than a few seconds.
    The
    initialization process should happen quickly.
It sounds like your getting timeouts - though were that true,
    the LMS
would not be initialized at all.
Can you test with an older version of Windows/Explorer than
    came with
Microsoft's JRE? I assume you are using the Sun release -
    which should
work fine, but maybe one way to test is to use, say, IE 5.5
    under
Windows 2000 which may already have the MS JVM installed...
Or, alternatively, what if you try another browser? Or does
    Saba only
    support IE...
Have you talked to Saba about this?

  • Bookmarking not working correctly on lms

I am using Captivate 4 to publish html to our lms. Our files contain quizzes which are reported back to the lms and I do NOT have the Never send resume data checked. When I test my courses on the lms...I let the course play for a few slides and then click the lms option to close and save progress. When I reopen a course, I am at the slide where I left off but the audio restarts from the beginning. It's like bookmarking is half working. Any ideas why this is happening or how I can fix it?

I did figure out the problem.... at least  it worked for us (with no help
from Adobe). I attached the audio to an object on the first slide (a
transparent box), as opposed to on the slide itself, and that fixed the
problem. I still don't understand why the solution works, but the
instructor of a Captivate class I recently took suggested that I give it a
    try.
Guess it's worth a try. Hope it works for you.

  • How can I keep my Cap 7 file from sending a 0 score to LMS?

I have a Captivate 7 file for a training program.  The file includes some question slides for knowledge check/review purposes - however, we don't want the file to send a score (not even a 0 score) to our LMS.  We only want the LMS to reflect whether the user completed the course file or not.  So in each question slide, I set Quiz Properties to show 0 points 0 penalty and de-selected the Report Answers box.  I then set the Publish Settings to these (shots below) to prevent any score from being passed through - however, the file is still passing a 0 score to the LMS.
So I tried just removing the question slides altogether and replacing them with regular slides that I programmed to mimic question slide functionality, but that didn't work either.  I was told to check all buttons/click boxes to ensure that none of them was producing any type of "report" to LMS, but none of them are set to report anything.  Can anyone spot what I'm doing wrong?  Will very much appreciate any advice anyone can give!  Thanks!
