LMS 3.1 - DFM Issues

Hi There,
I'm having a few problems with my setup, some more important than others, but causing troubles for me all the same (I've listed them in priority)
1) Right now I have the default Scheduled rediscovery set in DFM to run weekly. That's all well and good, except that when it runs, less than 10 of my 664 devices get put into the "known" state, while the rest - after 6-8 hrs - get thrown into the "questioned" state. When I try to suspend the schedule, I get an error (see attached: rediscovery_error.jpg, and associated Rediscovery.txt). I have a case open with the TAC right now about this, but it has not been resolved. The only fix I have at the moment is to rebuild the DFM DB, then re-add all the devices, and then I have to unmanage all the interfaces/ips that I'm not using. Seems like an incredible waste of time.
2) When adding a new device to the DFM (automatically pulled when I add it to the DCR) all the existing devices return to their default managed/unmanaged state. Again, at this point, I have to go back and unmanage all the interfaces/ips, etc... (May be related to above, I'm not sure.)
3) My jrm.log file is currently sitting at over 650MB (not KB). This equates to roughly 7.3 million lines of text, where 99% of the lines are "Test Exception is : java.sql.SQLException: JZ0S2: Statement object has already been closed." (see attached: jrm.jpg)
4) I would also like to know if the emails that are sent out by the DFM can be changed - a lot of the information included in them is not relevant to me, and I would like to add the information that is.
I've also attached the output of pdshow and systeminfo, which seems to be the first thing most people are asked for.
I'm running LMS 3.1, with an updated DFM (3.1.3) on Windows 2003 Enterprise.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can provide that may help.

I should also point out that once you upgrade to LMS 3.2, there is a consolidated patch for DFM to apply at http://tools.cisco.com/support/downloads/go/ImageList.x?relVer=3.2.0&mdfid=282640771&sftType=CiscoWorks+Device+Fault+Manager+Patches&optPlat=Windows&nodecount=2&edesignator=null&modelName=CiscoWorks+Device+Fault+Manager+3.2&treeMdfId=268439477&treeName=Network+Management&modifmdfid=&imname=&hybrid=Y&imst=N&lr=Y which will fix quite a few DFM bugs which are still present in 3.2.  You should download, and apply this patch, and that should give you a much better DFM experience.

  • LMS 4.0 DFM issue

Hi Experts, Recently I have installed LMS4.0 and we are facing issues with DFM. All devices are in DFM in known state. recently our link from HQ to branch went down and all branch devices were unreachable but we did not receive a sinlge alert from DFM and when I go to DFM to see if alerts are there but I dont see any alerts related to reachability..its only showing interface up/down message....even though i checked the availability report in HUM and uptime report in HUM it does not show there as well that device was not reachable or some downtime....
attached is the version of applications installed in LMS4.0... Please help me to resolve this issue ?

MDF isn't something that needs to be configured.  It is an architectural component of LMS.  The most likely reason you cannot create VLANs is that LMS does not know what your read-write community string is.  Discovery only populates DCR with the read-only string.  Go to Inventory > Add/Import/Manage Devices and edit the credentials for your switches.  Add the proper read-write community string, and then you should be able to configure the VLANs.

  • LMS 4.0.1 - DFM issue

    HI,
I installed the LMS 4.0.1 and I'm facing a problem with DFM. None Fault is showed.
The Fault Discovery Process never finishes, it is always Running, according attached file.
I checked the LMS Process MAnagement and 4 process are as "Transient Terminated". The  process are: CSDiscovery, DCRDevicePoll, FHPurgeTask,UTMajorAcquisition. I started all process but 2 minutes later the process goes to "Transient Terminated".
All Windows Services related with CiscoWorks are UP.
    Someone knows this issue?
    Thanks for your help.
    Luis

    Hi duong,
I'm using the ping sweep. not using the "Use DCR as Seed List" as there were more than 5000 devices.
Earliar LMS pick the devices. once the discovery was running for a long time . to stop the same we have restarted
the CSDiscovry process. After this we are facing the issue.

  • LMS 4: DFM issues

As suggested by Joseph Clarke, I started a new thread regarding Fault manager issues in our LMS 4 installation.
    The original post: https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3233282
The following menus do not open (error messages are shown instead):
    Monitor> Fault Settings> Setup
    Monitor> Threshold Settings> Fault
    Reports> Fault and Event> History

I just checked the affected menus and it now seems the issues are gone. Could it be that the IPM patch (which fixed SNMP v3 and IPSLA issue) also fixed DFM?

  • LMS 3.2 - DFM Notification Services issue

My customer installed an LMS 3.2 on Windows 2008 Server with SP1.
Now the DFM Notification Services causing Problems.
We configured for a test the Event Set A and setup a Notification group with the following boxes ticked:
    Alert Severity
    Critical   Informational
    Alert Status
    Active
    Event Selection
    Event Set: A
    Event Severity
    Critical   Informational
    Event Status
    Active
And all Devices marked in the device selector.
At least the E-Mail configuration was set.
Now none of the Alerts or Events generate an automated e-mail, while the manual mailing from the AAD is working.
I restarted the LMS dmgtd and founf the following lines in the DFMLogServer.log:

What is causing these Problem? A corrupt database or some invalid setting??
    Does anybody has an idea?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Joe,
    thanks for your fast reply.
    The corresponding SR is 614309645.
These are the TAC provided files and sizes.
    05/06/2010 10:46 AM 1,731  ProcessEPMDataManager$EpmDataQueueItem$epmAlarmHistory.class
    05/06/2010 10:46 AM 1,391  ProcessEPMDataManager$EpmDataQueueItem$epmConditionHistory.class

    05/06/2010 10:46 AM 7,112  ProcessEPMDataManager.class
    The setup instruction from TAC:
    1- Stop the  daemon manager:
                 net stop crmdmgtd
    2- Go  to:
    $NMSROOT/MDC/tomcat/webapps/triveni/WEB-INF/classes/com/cisco/nm/trx/nos/server
and backup  the original files (either copy them to another safe directory or rename them to  something like . Please don't retain the  original extension when renaming the files.
3- Make  sure that the patch files have the following MD5s:
    MD5  (ProcessEPMDataManager$EpmDataQueueItem$epmAlarmHistory.class) =  08851732b0b3aac5bb0636cc3e8e3c10
    MD5  (ProcessEPMDataManager$EpmDataQueueItem$epmConditionHistory.class) =  7933e55abb6ad604aa6ca8d3126ff189
    MD5  (ProcessEPMDataManager$EpmDataQueueItem$epmEventProperties.class) =  af3b72952ec59d59e30b0309af80a9d2
    MD5  (ProcessEPMDataManager$EpmDataQueueItem.class) =  a70f49f8eab6bdea007b4ddd79e3809f
    MD5  (ProcessEPMDataManager.class) =  a6ec024955bb638d8fec47694816a82a3-
4- Replace  the originals in the above mentioned directory with these  versions.
    5 Start the  Daemon manager:
                 net start crmdmgtd
I followed these instructions and still facing the problem.
I also searched for the libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll, i found them, but in a path not included in the Windows PATH variable. Therefore these files should not influence LMS.
In the NOS Log i still see these messages:

Since these Messages depends on EPM Data i had a look into the EPMServer.log and EPM.log
The EPMServer.log is shortened and showing all entries from the last dmgtd start. After the usual urn_not_found messages and the init of the Groups the following entry is generated:
    java.lang.NullPointerException
        at com.cisco.nm.trx.epm.providers.alarm.AlarmUpdateListener.processUpdatedAlarm(Unknown Source)
        at com.cisco.nm.trx.epm.providers.alarm.AlarmUpdateListener.run(Unknown Source)
        at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:595)
After that i changerd the logging of EPM to debug and attached the file as EPM_Debug.zip to this post.
Thanks a lot for your valuable support so far.

    Hi,
I have configured DFM for email notification as far as all the documentation says.
    But I get no emails.
Email is working, as I can forward Alerts to myself no problem.
I have looked in the NOS log and am only seeing Java errors :-

    Hi.
    Check:
    /var/adm/CSCOpx/log/smtp.log
to see if you're seeing any errors there.
this should help you to see if the email address(s) you have configured are interpreted correctly by sendmail.
Also, you might want to look in the nos.log in
    /opt/CSCOpx/log/dfmLogs/NOS
    for errors there.
Finally, check to make sure the NOS process is up.
    cd /opt/CSCOpx/bin
    ./pdshow NOSServer

  • LMS 3.2 DFM Auto Allocation Issues

    Hi,
I am having a problem with the Auto Allocation in DFM. When I make changes to a device in the DCR (in this particular case, I am editing the User Defined Fields), the device automatically goes from a ''Known' state to a 'Learning' state in DFM. The problem is that it will remain 'learning' for hours, then eventually go into 'Questioned'. At this point, I have to delete it from the questioned state, which it then goes into 'Pending', and then I have to delete it from the pending phase. (A side problem I am having is that it wont remove itself from pending - I have to stop the Daemons, restart them, and then its gone from the DFM) Once it is out of the DFM, I have to manually add it back into the DFM, in which point is goes through in a few minutes with no problems.
Please let me know if there is anything I can provide to help out in this situation.
    Thanks.

    Hi jclarke,
I think I may have misworded my initial problem. I do not have DFM set to auto allocate from the DCR, however, it seems that when changes are made in the DCR to a device that is already "Known" in DFM, the DFM automatically puts that device into "Learning". This, it seems, is where the problem lies. That device will never actually go into "Known" status, until I delete them and restart the Daemons.
    Thanks.

  • LMS 3.2 DFM Event Summary problem

    Hi all,
I have two issues, and one question:
    Issues:
    1)
In the DFM portlet, under DFM Evnets Summary I see a list stating that I have 2 devices that have Event Name as Duplicate. When I click on the number 2, it opens up Device Fault Manager - Alerts and Activities, but it's show with no records. This has been like this for quite some time now... Any ideas on how to fix this?
    2)
I've got 5 devices in DFM that are in the DFM Device Status as Questioned. They don't exist in CS, RME nor any other place. I went to DFM Device Management and under Rediscover/Delete, and was going to delete the devices from DFM, but the delete button is grayed out. How can I remove the devices from DFM?
    And now for the Question:
I sometimes get an event in DFM Alerts and Activities that looks like this:
    Name                                                          Value
    Event_Description:               InformAlarm
Component:                         [FQDN DEVICE NAME REMOVED]: Cisco Configuration Management Trap
Description:                         Cisco Command Monitoring -> Event Command Source: SNMP, Event Config Source: Running, Event Config Destination: Network TFTP
Sometimes it gets cleared by it self... So I'm a bit interested to find out what does this event mean? and how to get rid of it?
    Any help is appreciated
    Gudvardur

It sounds like your DFM databases may have gotten out of sync with the rest of LMS.  You can clear the first two problems by following the steps in https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-8796 to reinitialize the dfmEpm, dfmInv, dfmFh, DFM.rps, and DFM1.rps databases.  Do not reinitialize the others.
As for the delete button being grayed out, this is expected when DFM is in auto-manage mode.  To activate this button, go to DFM > Device Management > Device Import and disable auto-manage mode.
The config management trap you're seeing will occur whenever the config changes on the device.  This event should clear on its own.

  • LMS 3.2 DFM email notification problem

    Hi,
I got a problem in a newly installed LMS 3.2 with the DFM email notification.
I can see the alerts appering on Alerts&Activities, but DFM would not send any emails.
I can get emails from other moduls of LMS. CS sends me emails from successfully backups.
The SNMP Server works fine. The settings are ok.
    I already reinstalled DFM.
I have seen a thread exists on supportforum.cisco.com with the same problem.
Maybe anyone have the answer to this problem.
    Thanks,
    C8-Netzwerk

This looks like an issue I am currently tracking.  I have written a patch which should correct this.  You can get the patch by opening a TAC service request, and having your engineer contact me directly.

  • Email Notifications DFM issue

    HI all
I have a Cisco Works LMS 3.2 with DFM 3.2 on a Server 2008 Service Pack 2, and the email notifications on the DFM are not working, I recived emails from others modules but didnt from DFM, And I checked all the configurations and seems ok for me.
I have the same CiscoWorks on a Server 2003 and the notifications are working properly.
Could you help me with this issue
    Thanks for your help
    Regards
    Rafael Turriago

    Hi,
Have you set the SMTP server under  DFM > Configuration > Other Configurations > SMTP Default Server & set up a Notification Subscription?
    Regards.

  • LMS 3.2 DFM Import of Devices Failed

    Hi,
My name is Ashley. I have recently installed LMS 3.2. Everything is working fine, CM, CS,HUM, RME,IPM. However, I am not able to import devices from DCR to DFM.
On Auto Allocation Window, I get the following error:
Error in getting instance of TreeGenerator class
    com.cisco.nm.trx.kdm.utils.DcrGroupSelectorTreeGenerator
    Root Cause:com.cisco.nm.xms.ctm.common.CTMException: URN_NOT_FOUND : urn "ogs_server_urn" : Not found !!
On Manual Allocation, I cannot see any device in the DCR.
I have seen in a post how to reset the DFM database, but still does not work.
    net stop crmdmgtd
    cd CSCOpx\bin
    del NMSROOT/objects/smarts/local/repos/icf/DFM.rps
    del NMSROOT/objects/smarts/local/repos/icf/DFM1.rps
    perl dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=dfmEpm dmprefix=EPM
    perl dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=dfmInv dmprefix=INV
    perl dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=dfmFh dmprefix=FH
    net start crmdmgtd
    perl dbaccess.pl install
Could you please help, I am running out of ideas.

If the problem persists after a full server reboot, then you are probably not seeing this bug.  Post the NMSROOT/objects/smarts/local/logs/DFM.log and DFM1.log as well as the brcontrol output after the full reboot.

  • LMS 3.2 DFM error "URN_NOT_FOUND : urn "ogs_server_urn" : Not found !!"

    Hi Joseph,
one of our client is using lms 3.2 and getting the following error in DFM -> device import -> Auto Allocation mode configuration.
Error in getting instance of TreeGenerator class
    com.cisco.nm.trx.kdm.utils.DcrGroupSelectorTreeGenerator
    Root Cause:com.cisco.nm.xms.ctm.common.CTMException: URN_NOT_FOUND : urn "ogs_server_urn" : Not found !!
I have gone through all documents available in netpro and done all tests mentioned for trouble shooting
following is the result of command " pearl resolver.pl "
    D:\CSCOpx\bin>perl resolver.pl hyd-wbpo-cwks.wipro.com
    Original name: hyd-wbpo-cwks.wipro.com
    Hostnames/IP Addresses:
            hyd-wbpo-cwks.wipro.com/10.120.232.143
    Here with I have attched the dfmserver.log, dfmserver1.log, dfmOGSserver.log , netstat -a -n -o -b, and output of PDshow.
One thing I observed when I am running the command "brcontrol"  under "D:\CSCOpx\objects\smarts\bin>" it is not returning me any output.
All the devices in dfm are stacked in learning state at 10%. The SNMP RO string used in DCR is alos ok.

    Satya

    Hi any idea from anyone?

  • LMS 4.2 Endhost Issue

    Hi,
I have LMS 4.2 and switches 3560X, 3750X running IOS 15.0(1)SE3. I have enabled Energywise on them but the Energywise Dashboard is not showing some endhosts.
When I enter to the switches and enter "sh energywise children" the endhosts are displayed, but on the Energywise Dashboard (Configure Energywise Attributes on Endpoints) it apperas as if the switch has no endhosts connected.
I have erased and added the switches, verified the SNMP, SSH connection and check that cdp is enabled. On the Device Center, the IP Phones are shown as simple Endhosts and it is not possible to troubleshoot them through ping or traceroute. I'm not sure if it is a problem of the Energywise Work Center or the General LMS.
Thanks for any help on this.

    Hi,
I got exact the same problem with LMS 4.2.3.
I can see ip phone when issue command "show energywise children".
and I have added CUCM just like document describe.
Then I manually trigger data collection and can see ip phone in report.
But I can't see any endpoint on energywise page.
Does any one know how to do?

  • LMS 4.2 - DFM devices stuck in "Learning" state

    Hi,
Does anybody know why this same kind of bug/error/software fault exist in LMS 4.2 as it was in LMS 3.2 ? Why after a while after discovery of devices (state is "Known") DFM drops the state of devices to "Learning" and it stucks forever. Restarting of daemon manager helps for a short time. It looks like the processing of faults stops a while after discovery is complete.
LMS 4.2 is running on Solaris 10, connected to other LMS in DCR Slave configuration.

The connection between the ciscoworks GUI and the DFM repository is not 'optimal', or something like that. It's complicated.
What could cause the behavior you mention however, is either someone rediscovering devices that are still in learning state, or the presence of multiple active rediscovery schedules.
You may even delete all schedules excepts the default redisovery schedule which you can/should suspend. If the problem then stays away you know what caused it.
At this stage any device that really changes must be rediscoverd in DFM manually.
I think Admin -> Fault takes you to a page showing the schedule, if not lookup 'fault rediscovery schedule' in the help.
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 DFM Custom Traps

    Hello,
We want to use Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 for Access Control List Monitoring. i.e. if we end the ACLs with "log" entry, we may send  the ACL deny logs to the Ciscoworks as Syslog or Snmp Trap format.
With "debug snmp packets" command we may observe the packets are sent to the LMS, but the traps don't show up as alarms. Is it possible to observe any trap entry with LMS DFM Fault Manager by customizing the module, because we think the engine of the DFM analyzes the traps and shows some of the traps, not all of the traps are observable.
The command output is as below:
    Thanks in Advance,
    Best Regards,
Mar  2 10:28:30.028: SNMP: Queuing packet to 10.10.10.1
    .Mar  2 10:28:30.028: SNMP: V1 Trap, ent ciscoSyslogMIB.2, addr 10.10.20.1, gen  trap 6, spectrap 1
    clogHistoryEntry.2.742 = SEC
    clogHistoryEntry.3.742 = 7
    clogHistoryEntry.4.742 = IPACCESSLOGDP
    clogHistoryEntry.5.742 = list 191 denied icmp   10.10.10.1 -> 10.10.20.1 (0/0),   10 packets
    clogHistoryEntry.6.742 = 69082382

DFM consumes the traps and decides based on its built-in code-book what to do - rise one of the predefined Events or just silently ignore it. The best DFM can do is forward the trap as-is to another trap receiver.
Perhaps the LMS Syslog-Server can do what you want and lauch automated actions (like scripts or e-mail) based on certain criteria.
But you should take care of the underlying syslog file and keep its size under control with logrot.pl utility.
The online help of LMS should give you more details on the syslog capabilities or this link to the LMS 4.0 Administration Guide:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.0/user/guide/admin/useNotif.html#wp1075603
