LMS 3.2 on Solaris 10 - Cannot tftp vlan.dat to server

Hi All,
I've read several posts and could not find one that would resolve my issue.
I get the partially successful on several switches. I understand that is because of LMS not being able to tftp vlan.dat back to server.
I tried it directly on a switch and the transfer only works if the filename is already created in the tftp directory. Is there a way to change that?
Thanks
Jose Ribeiro

Hi Joseph,
The ciscoworks server has full access to the switch as per below. Neither access nor credentials seem to be the issue here.
I've read a few posts where it was stated the need to create a 'dummy' vlan.dat file so that the device would not show as partially successful on the RME job. Is this the case here? If so this is a very strange solution.
Thanks,
Jose

  • Issues with CWLMS 3.2 RME 4.3.1 cannot fetch vlan.dat off a VSS and 4510.

    Hi,
I am having a major headache with RME collecting the vlan.dat from a VSS and 4510, the device and credentials work fine, however when archiving the config i get partial success due to vlan failing. You can see in the IC_Services log that it attempts to TFTP the .dat file off which it fails with, i believe vlan fetch is only supported by SSH or telnet
when you do a CDA test both devices pass on everything..

managed to log on and please see below, tftp on one device works fine but from the 4510 or vss still fails

  • LMS 4.0 Config collection vlan.dat

    Hi Guys,
    I have a network with 4500, 3560 and 2960 switches.
In my LMS I have created 1 credential set to access all the switches. The config collection (startup, running and vlan) has succeeded for all the 2960 switches. The collection of the running and startup config has also succeeded for the 4500 and 3560 switches. But LMS doesn't collect the vlan.dat from the 4500 and 3560 switches. (inventory collection is ok with all the switches).
I have only configured SSH as config fetch protocol.
Why doesn't my LMS collect the vlan.dat of the 3560 and 4500 switches. The difference between the 2960 and the other switches is that there are only 2 vlans created on the 2960 switches and +30 vlans on the 3560 and 4500 switches.
Is the vlan.dat file maybe to big on the 3560 and 4500 to be collected with ssh...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Best Regards,
    Joris

I believe that LMS 4.2 can get the vlan.dat via SCP. Prior versions require TFTP to do this.
The commands to start the TFTP can be send via TELNET, SSH and possibly SNMP.
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • Can vlan.dat file be collected using SCP on LMS 4.2 ?

Hello, I need help regarding vlan.dat file fetch.
I'm using Cisco Prime 4.2 and VLAN fetch for all devices is currently going over TFTP. Devices managed by LMS are 2960, 4500, 6500 series. All devices are using SSH v2. ACS server is configured on all devices and SSH credentials are OK.
This is the error meessage I get when i select SCP: "SCP user credentials not available. Configure the SCP user credentials and try again Action: Check if protocol is supported by device and required device package is installed."
Is it possible to use SCP as VLAN fetch protocol? How to configure this on a devices and how to enter SCP credentials in LMS?
    Thanks.

I don't think anything other than tftp is supported as the transport protocol for actual transfer of the vlan.dat file from the switches by LMS.
See this post where Joe C. describes how LMS logs into the target device (via telnet or ssh) and then transfers the files back to itself using tftp. That's about 2-1/2 years old but matches what's described in the current LMS Configuration Management user guide, quoted here:
"VLAN — Count of the successful VLAN configuration fetches for each protocol. This configuration fetch is supported by only Telnet and SSH protocols."
You also have the option (as of LMS 4.2) of turning off vlan.dat collection since it is often of limited utility. Please refer to this thread for details.

  • LMS 3.1 on Solaris 10 - Reset all databases to initial state

    Hi,
Is there a script that would clear all databases for LMS 3.1 on Solaris 10?
I imported do CS some devices from a CSV file I exported from an old LMS 2.5 server we had. I get some very strange results when I ask to sync archive for instance. The devices I manually added work fine, but the ones I imported get stuck and the job takes forever to finish (10 hours in some instances, for 230 devices).
I'd like to re-start from scratch without having to uninstall and reinstall LMS.
    Thanks,
    Jose Ribeiro

See this DOC for the commands to reinitialize all databases.

  • Cannot enable VLAN on VM

    Hi all,
I cannot enable VLAN identification for VM, when I try to apply I get message: "Error Applying Network Adapter Changes. The Operation on computer 'ServerName' failed.". Previously everything was fine.
In event viewer I see following error:
    Event ID 95, Source: Hyper-V-VmSwitch
The VLAN configuration being set on port 036E9BF5-0646-4DC4-967C-B8E4A9A2FB29 (Friendly Name: External_ExternalPort) on switch 749C7BFE-0926-4957-9B95-5D24CE4B1225 (Friendly Name: LAN) is invalid. Reason: VLAN settings other than Access VLAN Id must be zero
The same situation if I try to uncheck 'Enable VLAN identification' on VM where VLAN was already set. Reboot didn't help. NIC firmware upgrade didn't help.
Host info: Dell PowerEdge R710, Two Broadcom NET Extreme II NICs inside NIC team created by BACS, HyperV 2012 Server OS.
    How to figure this out?

    Sorry, this is my fail.
I connected to HyperV host from 2008R2 console. With 2012 console everything works fine.

  • I want to disable Vlan.dat config backup in LMS

    Hi All,
LMS do backup my running config and valn.dat. But due to some policies we want to exclude the vlan.dat in the backup.
Can anybody confirm if it is possible in LMS.
    Regards,
    Sanjay

    Joe,
Sorry if this is an ignorant question.
It was always my understanding that the vlan.dat was a file holding the temporary changes in VLAN configurations a VTP client receives from the VTP server.
So what is the actual purpose of backing up this file?
In case a switch is replaced it will receive updates from the VTP server and can match the VLANs to the VLAN defined on it's ports.
Also I never saw any restoring of a vlan.dat in LMS.
I'm confused here. Thanks for an explanation or pointing to relevant documents.
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • A problem with vlan.dat retrieval in the RME

    Hello,
the customer has LMS 3.1 and he uses RME for the backup of config files and vlan.dat files from netwrok devices. It is working fine, but he has problem with backuping vlan.dat files from the following switches: Cat2960-8TC,-24TC, Cat2960G-24TC,-48TC,-8TC and Cat3560E-24TD-E,S. I downloaded the latest packages for these devices into RME. I changed the telnet timeout value from 32s to 70s. But this issue still exist:-( The running and startup config from these switches is downloaded without any problem. Is it a bug?
    Thank you
    Best Regards
    Roman

    Hello,
I tried it manually and the copy is working ( i had to create empty file in the tftp directory under CSCOpx):-( The error mesage is that ssh and telnet is not available and tftp doesn't support fetching of vlan.dat. But ssh is working on the switches (the running and startup config is fetched by RME without any problem from these switches). The credentials verifications is done with OK for ssh and enable secret for these switches.

  • Vlan.dat Failed retrival

    Hello,
I have seen the various posting regarding how LMS copies vlan.dat : ie over tftp.
I have verified login credentials over SNMP and SSH and these come back Ok however I still get :
    VLAN
CM0151 VLAN RUNNING Config fetch failed for <switch> Cause: Command  failed
VLAN Config fetch is not supported using TFTP.
TELNET: Failed to establish TELNET connection to 10..x.x.x -  Cause: Connection refused.
Action: Check if protocol is supported by device and required device  package is installed. Check device credentials. Increase timeout value, if  required.
So can someone please answer why it it saying it is trying over telnet when it is configured to do it over ssh?

Telnet was tried because the retrieval over SSH failed.  The way vlan.dat is archived is RME will login to the device via SSH or telnet, then issue a "copy flash:vlan.dat tftp:" command.  This means that TFTP must be allowed from the device to the RME server.  Make sure this copy command can be executed manually.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1.0.0.87 - VLAN.DAT fetch failure

    Hello Fellow Networkers,
I'm encountering Fetch VLAN Configuration failures from a bunch of Cisco 3560 switches (c3560-ipbasek9-mz.122-50.SE3) in a one department.  Whilst the vlan.dat file is deprecated, it still remains important and needs archiving.  From PI I can ssh to the switches in question and the path remains nat free.
Your input would be much appreciated.
    Thank you in anticipation.
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
This mean vlan fetch is working for other sites \ devices ?
Is the job status is "partial Successful" for those 3560's ?
check if there is any firewall rule Blocking the TFTP protocol ,if yes allow the TFTP protocol and check the issue again.
    Thanks-
    Afroz

  • How can I import the vlan.dat file to flash?

I have copied the config and vlan.dat files via tftp to the computer and want to import them to a replacement switch. Both switches are 2960 model. I get the config over fine but not sure how to get the vlan.dat file to the flash.

    Hi Jerry,
    Please try below command.
    copy tftp://x.x.x.x/vlan.dat flash:
Where x,x,x,x is the tftp ip address.
    Hope this helps.

  • ASM diskgroups unmounting, getting ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data fil

    All,
We've recently purchased a RAMSAN device for better throughput. I created the initial diskgroup with the following syntax:
    CREATE DISKGROUP EMTPRD0X_SSD01 NORMAL REDUNDANCY
    FAILGROUP RS1 DISK '/dev/rdsk_ramsan_primary' NAME ssd_prim
    FAILGROUP RS2 DISK '/dev/rdsk_ramsan_backup' NAME ssd_bkup;
and then created a temporary tablespace on top of that diskgroup:
    create temporary tablespace temp04 tempfile '+EMTPRD0X_SSD01' size 25g, '+EMTPRD0X_SSD01' size 25g, '+EMTPRD0X_SSD01' size 25g, '+EMTPRD0X_SSD01' size 25g, '+EMTPRD0X_SSD01' size 25g;
Everything seemed fine at first and then end users started seeing the following errors in the alert log:
    SUCCESS: diskgroup EMTPRD0X_SSD01 was mounted
    SUCCESS: diskgroup EMTPRD0X_SSD01 was dismounted
    SUCCESS: diskgroup EMTPRD0X_SSD01 was mounted

After talking with Oracle support I was told that the only workaround for diskgroups unmounting themselves is to put a control file/redo log/dummy tablespace inside of that diskgroup and continually write/read from it.
    Does that make sense?
