LMS 3.21/ CM 5.2.2 [Cat4510R+E] - Legacy-Question: UserTracking doesn't collect Portinfos on Modules greater than Slot 8

Hi all,
knowing that LMS 3.21 is a really outdated version of LMS I actually struggle with CM 5.2.2-UT Application.
Environment:
- LMS 3.21 (Mdf. 1.89, CMDeviceUpdates.CM522.v3.0)
- Solaris 10
- Cisco Catalyst 4510R+E (IOS-XE Version 03.03.00.SG)
   Linecards in Slot 9/10: WS-X4648-RJ45-E
Problem:
UT Discovery only discovers Endhosts on Switchports until Modul-Slot 8. Endhosts connected to port on Slot 9/10
won't be collected (in /opt/CSCOpx/campus/etc/cwsi/portsData.xml file no entries will be found on ports highter the slot 8).
But Endhosts can be seen with #show mac addr dyn on switch and with performing a snmpquery on dot1dTpFdb-Table.
Question:
Anybody out there knowing whether there is a limitation within LMS 3.21 not to discover switchports geater than module 8?
Any suggestions for further troubleshooting; I parsed thru several log files (ut.log, ani.log, ...)
For certain reasons we have to stay on this "old" version of LMS until we can upgrade to LMS 4.x or PI 2.x.
Thanks for any feedback
Lothar

This is a known issue in LMS where Module 9/10 aren't displayed correctly for the End Hosts with them.
The issue is caused by bug CSCue87491. You can try to upgrade to IOS XE 3.5.0E 15.2(01)E, where the issue isn't seen.

  • Course jumps after launch in LMS - how do I fix this?

First, let me preface by saying I have been using Captivate 4 Trial Version as I am waiting for my license for full version. I'm not sure if this is part of the problem or not.
I uploaded my Captivate 4 quiz to an LMS, it contains 3 text-based screens followed by 40 question screens, a Certificate of Completion and Results page.  I need to test all of the components of this quiz but when I launch it from the LMS it immediately jumps from loading to screen 37 - I reviewed all of the project settings and couldn't find anything indicating why this might be happening.  In addition, I have set up the quiz to be retaken as needed, and it won't let me relaunch it and is marked as completed (there are pass/fail settings with an 80% pass score).
Does the slides per second have anything to do with this - I had thought this feature was related to load time...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I can provide additional information but cannot provide a sample project as it is for a client.
    Thanks!

    Hi there
Does anything change if you make the following adjustment?
    Click Quiz > Quiz Preferences
    Click the Reporting node
Click the LMS Customization Settings button
Enable the check box labeled Never send Resume Data

  • Problems upgrading from LMS 3.0 to LMS 3.2 - the backup fails.

I'm upgrading from LMS 3.0 to LMS 3.2 on Solaris. I've met all of the prereq's, patches, etc. It keeps failing on the Backup...It claims I need 15 Gig for the backup. The backup directory I'm using (/opt/backup) has 35 Gig free, so that shouldn't be the issue.

I'm attaching the backup.log which contains the failure information for each backup I've tried in the past two days.
My main question is...can I skip this backup somehow? I've got another LMS 3.0 system that I can export everything I need from. Skipping the backup isn't an option on the install/upgrade? It gives me the option to quit the install or try the backup again.
    Thanks,

You can skip the backup with a hidden option:
    ./setup.sh -b nobackup
However, I wouldn't feel comfortable until figuring out why the backup has been failing, ostensibly because tar is running into the 255-char limit (100 for the filename and 155 for the path), a result of the many iterations of the following:

  • Issue with .flv Captivate and LMS

Hi, I am testing an LMS that we will be rolling out in the
New Year. We have produced some Captivate2 modules and have
successfully loaded them as SCORM2004 onto the LMS and they run
    okay.
I tried creating a .flv using Studio8 and inserted it into a
Captivate 2. The module runs okay on my harddrive. I create the
manifest.xml file and zip all the content and upload onto the LMS.
The LMS will launch the file okay and it plays and stops at the
point where the flv should play - but it doesn't there is nothing
not even the small flv controls are displayed. If I click on the
forward button it advances to the next part of the Captivate as
    normal.
Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?
    thanks
    Gerry

I highly recommend you look at:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=67&catid=470&threadid =1203710&highlight_key=y&keyword1=flv
This issue is one that is CAUSED by Adobe. The flvs work fine
on an Adobe server. They are trying to force people to use their
    service.
It sucks, and I hope someone fixes it soon -- not being able
    to play flv is ridiculous.

  • Cisco works LMS 3.0.1 cannot archieve configuration for cisco 3000 series vpn concentrator

    Hi All,
Our problem is, we have Cisco Works LMS 3.0.1. cannot archieve configuration for cisco 3000 series vpn concentrator.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Make sure you have filled out all of the HTTP/HTTPS credential data in DCR for these devices.  RME will only use HTTPS to fetch VPN concentrator configurations.

  • LMS 3.2 - RME 4.3.1 Inventory Collection never stops (Job Result = pending)

    Hello all,
with our LMS-System running on Solaris 10 we have the following problem:
    - Inventory Collection never stops after starting
    - This can be seen with all devices or 1 device selected
    - Config-Mgmt is working
    - After re-init of RME-DB the problem persists
In Logfile (IC_Server.log) no problems are shown.
In Job-Logfile only the collection request is shown.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks for your feedback
    Lothar

    Hi Joe,
with further troubleshooting this problem I discoverd the following.
    - Having problems with inventoring certain Cat4000 we requested patch for Bug-ID CSCtb16925 (LibInventory.zip-File).
    - Replacing this file with the old one or installing the newest IDU for RME the problem was solved.
It seems that the LibInventory.zip file given with Bug-ID CSCtb16925 is somewhat buggy (maybe in context with device-number) greater
    than 1000.
    Thanks for your support.

  • LMS 3.2 Config Editor : Config deployment is Not Attempted

    Hello gurus,
Using config editor in LMS 3.2, I'm trying to deploy a config, that was previously saved to the "public configs", to a device (overwrite to startup-config).
The job ends "Successfully", but looking at the detail, the deployment was "Not Attempted". Last time I used this function, I was running LMS 3.1, but we've since migrated to 3.2 it doesn't seem to work.
What logs can I look at to find out why the deployment was "Not Attempted" ?
    Many thanks,
    Alex.

    Can you do the following?
Please enable DEBUG for these modules
Step 1: RME -> Admin -> System Preferences -> Loglevel settings
    Config Editor
    Config Job
    NetConfig
    Step 2: Attach these logs:
    CSCOpx/log/CfgEdit.log
    CSCOpx/log/dcmaservice.log
    CSCOpx/log/dcmaclient.log
    CSCOpx/files/rme/jobs/ConfigEditorJob/
    CSCOpx/files/rme/jobs/NetConfigJob/
And include a screenshot as well and attach the logs from above steps.

    Hi Experts ,
I am installing LMS 4.0 in my site newly  . I have nearly 1000 devices in network .When i had tried the autodiscovery mode using ping sweep method  the devices are getting discovered but showing us unreacheable . All the devices are going under unreacheable no devices are getting added to the DCR .
SNMP settings are configured correctly .
Please let me know whether the autodiscovery will add the devices to DCR or i need to add the devices manually .
As per my requierement i need to configure below things , is it possible to configure the same
    1)LMS as SYSLOG server
2)LMS should send EMAIL notification if  device goes down , interfaces goes down , memory / cpu goes high  ,switch  module goes down
3)Need to know if cisco releases new device packages how we will update to the cisco works .
Can any one help me in getting my queries cleared
    Regards
    Angus

    Hi Angus,
Yes device discovey will add the device automatically to the DCR at the end of discovery .
You just need to make sure you have given the correct SNMP and other disovery settings.......
1.Yes , LMS as SYSLOG server is possible.
    2.Yes it is also possible.

  • LMS 4.0 Config collection vlan.dat

    Hi Guys,
    I have a network with 4500, 3560 and 2960 switches.
In my LMS I have created 1 credential set to access all the switches. The config collection (startup, running and vlan) has succeeded for all the 2960 switches. The collection of the running and startup config has also succeeded for the 4500 and 3560 switches. But LMS doesn't collect the vlan.dat from the 4500 and 3560 switches. (inventory collection is ok with all the switches).
I have only configured SSH as config fetch protocol.
Why doesn't my LMS collect the vlan.dat of the 3560 and 4500 switches. The difference between the 2960 and the other switches is that there are only 2 vlans created on the 2960 switches and +30 vlans on the 3560 and 4500 switches.
Is the vlan.dat file maybe to big on the 3560 and 4500 to be collected with ssh...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Best Regards,
    Joris

I believe that LMS 4.2 can get the vlan.dat via SCP. Prior versions require TFTP to do this.
The commands to start the TFTP can be send via TELNET, SSH and possibly SNMP.
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • LMS 3.2 Data transfer

    HI all,
We have created LMS 3.2 in our server and works fine for a while. Now, we have decided to change the server, so we installed LMS 3.2 in our new server once again. my question would be is there any way to export data( all configuration) from privous LMS server to new one ? your help would be appreciated.
    Regards,

Yes there is a way, and its not too complicated.
LMS has a backup utility, which can be restored to another LMS install to migrate previous server data.
    Steps are :
Take Backup --> Install LMS on new Server --> do backup restore.
One main question here is, if you can you're planing to install the same LMS version i.e. 3.x or if you are planning to go to other version, like 4.x, there could be some important thigs to consider.
Following are the documents which will tell you the procedure for Backup and Restore:
    Backing up Data:

  • LMS 4.1 Configuration Fetch Problem

    Hello,
I have some problem with WS-C4006 Cisco Catalyst that lms doesn't collect and put into "never collected" area. I also see that those devices doesn't show the classic prompt ">" and "#". Could be the main problem ? If yes how can configure LMS to recognize a different prompt for devices.
If no what could be the problem ?
    Many thanks

You can add your custom prompts into /opt/CSCOpx/objects/cmf/data/TacacsPrompts.ini. No restart of LMS is required for the addition to be recognized.

  • Captivate 4 Scores and Solo LMS

My initial attemps at publishing a Captivate 4 test module to the Solo LMS using SCORM 1.2 have been unsuccessful.  Specifically, the score does NOT update when the module is complete.  (In the Solo LMS the module status shows as complete but the score does not update.)
Has anyone else run into this problem?  Thoughts / suggestions?

We're using Solo as well and after speaking with Solo support, at least in our case, the scores are not there because we are not using Solo's site to gernerate the quizzes and tests.
We use Capitivate and all I can get to show on Solo's site is either "Completed" "Incomplete" or "100% Completed" depending on how I set it up in Captivate, but Solo never reports the actual score (i.e. 70%, 80%, etc.). My settings in Captivate are nearly the same as in your post.

  • Reporting Progress and Scores in LMS

    Hi all,
I am having some trouble incorporating my Captivate presentations into an LMS and getting it to report both progress and assessments correctly.  This could be a lengthy post, so I apologize in advance.
Let me start by including my current setups:
The desired outcome is as follows:
    Progress
    - I want to report progress up until the exam; for instance, if a user leaves midway through, on slide 15 of 30, Captivate should relaunch on slide 15 for that user
    - Once I get to the exam, users should not be able to backtrack to previous slides.
    - If the user starts the exam, but doesn't finish, it should report to the LMS whatever score was earned, counting unanswered questions as 0's.
    - Once an exam is failed, and this is the tricky part, I want the course to completely restart.  Right now, it's loading mid-exam, and if I try to go back, it chain-pauses the presentation; possibly a conflict since I have it set to not allow users to go back once the exam is started.  Essentially, once a score is reported, I want to wipe the cookie saving the progress clean.
Is there a way I can achieve all of this through Captivate?
Any help would be MUCH appreciated.  Right now, the best compromise I can come up with to check "Never Send Resume Data" and not save a users progress - but when I turn this off, it also isn't communicating the exam scores to the LMS either.
    Thanks in advance!

I can't promise that you can have everything you want, but perhaps some of your wishes are certainly doable in Captivate.
I note from your settings that you have the course Report Status set to track Complete/Incomplete rather than Pass/Fail, yet you talk about wanting the user to complete "exam" quiz questions and you also have Report Data set to Quiz Results Only.  There's something inherently contradictory about these settings. Complete/Incomplete is mostly for recording slide views. If recording quiz results is most important, I think you should really be using Pass/Fail.  It's an either/or decision. Most LMSs are far more likely to be reliable on the Pass/Fail setting and some just don't do Complete/Incomplete at all anyway.
I would also recommend you change your Report to LMS setting to Percent rather than Score.  In my experience, Percent is more LMS "friendly".
For starters, there are two mechanisms available for allowing the user to resume a course module at the same point they left off:
One option is to tick the option in TOC settings for Self-paced Learning.  This writes data to a Shared Object (Flash Cookie) on the user's PC that records the slide they finished on.  Captivate doesn't provide a means to erase this cookie out of the box.  You'd have to get some programming done in AS3 to achieve that extra functionality.
Option 2 is to untick the box in LMS Customisation Settings for Never Send Resume Data.  This then will mean the Captivate lesson DOES send resume data to the LMS.  With this option you are depending on the LMS to keep track of where your user got up to.  But be warned.  This setting is more reliable when it comes to tracking which scored object (e.g, a quiz question slide) the user got up to.  I'm not sure how reliable it is when it comes to tracking slide views because each LMS is slightly different as to it's abilities to track data. In my experience, using Self-Paced Learning is better for straight out slide view tracking, but it's also a pain when users that completed the course come back later to browse the content again because they get shunted straight to the last slide.  Quite annoying.  So I don't use it.
Now for some of your other wishes:
To prevent users backtracking to previous slides once they've reached the exam, simply disable Backward movement under Quiz Settings.  Remember that as far as Captivate is concerned, the quiz begins at the very first scored object, which might be a button or click box, not necessarily the first quiz question.
If a user only partially completes an exam, the LMS should still receive a score for each completed quiz question slide as long as you have Reporting Level set to Interactions and Score.  But be aware that this means the LMS will be getting pinged by the course after each and every user interaction, which can place quite a load on the LMS if there are lots of simultaneous users.
By default in Captivate, if a user gets a question wrong they get no score for that question.  So that one is easy.
Your final wish is to force the entire quiz to restart if the user flunks it.  I may be misunderstanding your drift but why not just allow the user multiple attempts at the quiz?  You can set this under Quiz > Settings > Pass/Fail.  Tick the box for Show Retake Quiz Button and place this button right over the top of the Review Quiz button on the Quiz Results slide.  The user will only see the Retake Quiz button if they fail the quiz and when they click it, their previous quiz answers are erased, effectively forcing them to redo the entire quiz.  Wouldn't that get you what you want?
One more thing.  Beware of the options in the drop down menu under Quiz > Settings > Required. I generally set this to Optional, as some of the other settings can cause unpredictable results with LMSs.
Hopefully this info will get you closer to your goals.

  • LMS 4.0.1 - ANI Server may be down

    Hi all,
I'm facing a problem with my LMS 4.0.1...when I tried to access anything under "Admin> Collection Settings> Data Collection>" I received the following message:
"Error while loading. ANI Server may be down. Please check for ANI Server Status in Admin -> System -> Server Monitoring -> Processes"
And then, all fields are blank in:
    SNMP Timeouts and Retries
    Data Collection Schedule
    Data Collection Critical Devices Poller
But everything is OK, the process is running (with busy flag set) on pdshow...I tried to restart ANIServer with "pdterm ANIServer/pdexec ANIServer" and other actions mentioned in other posts but no luck at all...
Maybe It's related to another problem, where my shadow directory is not being updated, after change any configuration...in any device...
    Could you please help me?

    Vicente Pires

    Hi ,
Found some errors and exception in the log..
We need to follow the below steps to fix the issue::
-we need to re-initialize the ANIdatabase ::
    1.stop the daemon manager :
    /etc/init.d/dmgtd stop
    net stop crmdmgtd
    2.Go to : /opt/CSCOpx/bin/ and issue the command :
    Run the below command:    /opt/CSCOpx/bin/perl dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=ani dmprefix=ANI
    windows::
    NMSROOT\bin\perl.exe NMSROOT\bin\dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=ani dmprefix=ANI
    3.Start the Daemon manager ::
    /etc/init.d/dmgtd start
    net start crmdmgtd
***IMP***   Re-initialize the ANI database will not lose any of the history information of the device.  Also ANI database does not contain any historical information as soon as the above steps are complete you need to run and new DATA COLLECTION followed by User tracking Acquisition and then check the issue.
Data collection:: Go to  Admin > Collection Settings > Data Collection > Data Collection Schedule   under "start Data Collection" > For "All Device"  >> click "START"
User tracking :: Inventory > User Tracking Settings > Acquisition Actions
    hope it will help
