LMS 4.0 resources near 100%

Hopefully Joe Clark will see this,
We have a clean install of LMS 4.0 on a virtual server, a single 2.4G processor and 4G of RAM.
I do see the paging file size is 4G and recommended is 8G.
The install was pretty smooth and everything seemed to be working fine. I have gradually added devices and  the config archive and inventory is working properly so far.
I recently started sending SNMP traps to the server and noticed the server is beginning to get slower. I see the processor utilize 100% and 90% of RAM as of now.
After the install, I looked for updates and LMS is saying there are no updates available.
Are there any bugs to be aware of, or should we add more resources to the server?
Also, is the shut down and reboot procedure the same whereas I shut down LMS processes first, then reboot server?

Hi,
Could you verify that your VM meets the minimum requirements as described here http://tools.cisco.com/squish/645Cb
In general you will see a period of time during Daemon start-up when the CPU gets pegged at 100%. However this is not a persistent state. What process or processes are consuming the resources?
Regarding the swap:
1. Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> System.
2. Click on Advanced system settings.
3. Performance section -> Settings.
4. Click the Advanced tab
5. Virtual memory section -> click Change.
6. Clear the "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" check box.
7. Click Custom size and type a new size in megabytes in the Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box. Both values can be set the same size.
8. click Set, and then click OK.
**IMPORTANT**
Windows 2008 R2 is not supported yet.
There are two ways to check if the OS is an R2 release.
        a) Run the CLI command "systeminfo" and verify if the OS name mentions "R2"
        b) Open My Computer > Help > About Windows, and verify if the pop-up says "R2"
Thanks

  • Finder runs near 100% cpu when I open a specific folder.

I noticed my mac pro battery went to the red zone in under two hours, it normally goes all day. I checked activity monitor and it showed finder using 97% cpu.
To keep it short, I discovered there's a problem only when I have a specific folder open. I don't have to be accessing the folder, finder goes near 100% anytime this folder is open, even when there are no other apps running. It's a relatively large folder - about 3300 items counting all files and subfolders. Is there a maximum size finder can handle under snow leopard or, perhaps, on an intel processor? I tried moving half the items to another folder and the problem seemed to stop. This isn't a good solution for me, however, as I need all the files located together.
There is no problem with this folder on my good old power pc running 10.4, so I'm processing it there for the time being.
    HELP? Thanks.

No, info is not checked, nor is arrange by nor show icon. Thanks anyway.
However, curiously, if I change view from icon to list, finder cpu % drops down to near zero. Change view back to icon, and finder goes crazy again. Maybe this'll mean something to someone?
Meanwhile, I can now use that folder, just have to remember to set it to list view.

  • Flashback Recovery Area Usage near 100% - what happens next?

    Hello,
I am fairly new to Oracle flashback. I have a database which is nearing 100% usage of the flashback area. Until now, I've just been increasing the size to delay the inevitable. I've also gone and pruned archivelogs (using OS commands) from the fra, but this does not seem to have any effect. What I wanted to know is, what will happen if I let it reach 100%. Will the database cease functioning or will it prune files that it no longer needs and free space on its own?
Thanks for any insight you can provide.

    Thank you.
With respect to "how" I am using flashback, this is something that also confuses me. It seems as if "Flashback Database" has NOT been enabled, but I know that I can flashback a table within my database by enabling row movement on it. I have specified USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST as the location to multiplex archivelogs and I use the EM dbconsole to take full backups of the database which seems to also populate a directory "autobackup" even though the backups are directed somewhere else. My guess is that I do NOT have flashback enabled in the sense you meant. I'd appreciate any clarification. To enabling flashback you have to issue ALTER DATABASE FLASHBACK command at mount stage in 10g(can at open stage in 11g) and you can check it from V$DATABASE.FLASHBACK_ON column. If it is 'YES' then that is enabled else is not.In additionally you performed FLASHBACK TABLE feature this is based on undo tablespaces(undo information and related undo settings/parameter) and nothing relationship with FLASHBACK DATABASE.

  • Database Time Spent Waiting (%): Wait Class Other nearly 100% all the time

Don't understand why OEM is reporting that Database Time Spent Waiting (%): Wait Class Other is nearly 100% all the time. Database 10.1.0.4 just installed on Linux(RHEL4AS) and nobody use it for now except OEM and me for admin purpose.
Any clue for that problem ?

This wait class only comprises one wait event - wait for redo log write confirmation after a commit (that is, 'log file sync')
So you can't write fast enough into your log files.
Did you check the frequency of log switches?

Hi José! Please don't get anxious because of this: Wait time must be SOMEWHERE, there's a saying "An OLTP DB is only as fast as its redo logs", but if you are not having any performance problem you don't need to do anything special.
You say you've just created the DB. Now make it DO something: put it to the test by simulating production conditions as closely as you can, and after some hours ask the users whether there is some problem. If there is, take a look at the wait statistics... you'll probably see many other top events before this one!

    Hi,
I've had my T410s for almost a year now and lately its been starting to get extremely slow, which is odd since it used to be so fast.
Just by opening one program, Outlook, or IE or Chrome, just one window, it will start to get extremely slow and on task manger I can clearly see the CPU usage at 100% or very near.
Also another thing I noticed was the performance index on the processor dropped from 6.8 to 3.6!!!
I did a clean Windows 7 Pro 64Bit install, I have all Windows and Lenovo updates installed and the problem persits
What is happening and what should I do??

  • LMS CiscoWorks 3.2 CPU 100 % on devices monitored

    HI,
it's possible that LMS CiscoWorks influenced devices performance? On devices monitored from CiscoWorks CPU reached peaks of 100% of utilization.
If i stop Ciscoworks they work normally.
    Thanks

Yes, it is possible.  Device bugs can exist that cause high CPU when certain MIB objects are polled.  There may also be other factors that can lead to high CPU when a device is polled with SNMP.  For example, routers will large ARP caches may see CPU spikes when User Tracking polls the devices during acquisition.  In these cases, SNMP views can be applied to restrict those MIB branches from being polled.
To determine what MIB objects are leading to CPU spikes, the output of "show stack PID" is required when the CPU is spiking (where PID is the process ID of the SNMP ENGINE and IP SNMP processes).  In addition to this, the show version and show region output are required.

  • Macbook Pro w/Retina: Processors nearing 100ºC?!

As part of my school's technology requirements, I purchased a Macbook Pro recently. It is the 2012 Retina Display model. All in all, it's a great computer, and most of the time, it runs quite cool or a little warm.
However, when I stress the computer with any kind of 3D game, things quickly spiral out of control. As shown by numerous third-party temp. sensor readout applications, my processor can quickly get to temperatures just under or at 100º Celcius (and the dedicated nVidia card gets 80-90, too)! The radiation coming through the keyboard is so hot, I can barely keep my hands on it for fear of burning myself. Now, I know that laptops "get hot," but this is a little absurd. I've not seen anyone yet who's reported temperatures this high.
Admittedly, I've not been a laptop user my entire life. I prefer desktops for their stability and power. But again, this was a requirement by my school. And in addition, I'm entering into a program in game design, which means "not playing games" on this computer is really not an option. But, neither is running my computer at temperatures like this. I am going to do serious damage to the internals, or my hands.
And for the record, I do not use my "lap" top on my lap. It's planted firmly on my desk.
Apple has had mixed reactions to my prediciment: The Security sector that I found myself connected to when I called them through Express Lane was very concerned about the operating temperature of my computer, which makes sense. But then they contacted the engineering team, who insisted that the computer "was running well within acceptable limits." I contacted my local Genius Bar, and they seemed shocked at the operating temperatures of my computer as well. So they grabbed it from me and ran stress tests on it for two days, only to inform me that the computer passed all of them. They were not able to tell me the exact numbers associated with those results, as their tests only output "pass/fail."
Research I have done on this processor indicate that third-generation i7's operate "between 5-105ºC." Running just 5º below what I presume to be the failure point is incredibly shocking. Other research catered to this specific computer indicates that Apple's manufacturing process applies disgustingly large amounts of thermal paste to their processor and discrete graphics cards, but when I questioned the geniuses over at Apple, they said that this amount was gagued for each computer model, and they were not allowed to apply any other quantity.
So, I'm looking for a solution to my heat problem. I can't change computers -- it's a college requirement. I will not manually reapply the thermal paste to my computer -- it's brand new, and I'm not going to void the valuable warranty I purchased. I can't just do nothing -- these temperatures are NOT good, no matter what Apple says. Boiling water with my CPU is bad!
Cooling pads have been what I've been looking at primarily, but I can never seem to find one that does what I need it to do: 10-20 degrees of active cooling. The model I purchased recently, the Cooler Master Infinite Evo, was horribly ineffective. Every model I look at has some glaring problem or a swarm of angry customers who are venting about some faulty part or a product that just "doesn't move air."
And I need something that moves air. A LOT of it.

Thanks for the response. I appologize personally -- part of the research I did (I've been working on this problem for weeks!) led me to this issue: a lot of people finding that they have processes eating up their CPU. I updated my Macbook Pro the moment it was powered on, and it does not suffer from this issue.
When I run these 3D games that have been heating up my computer, the CPU read shows no more than 15% of total CPU power at any give time, despite the processors heating up to an ungodly 100ºC per core.
Incidentally, the CPU usage numbers change when viewing "All Processes." I'm not exactly sure how they're scaled in this setting, but the game in question displays about 70% CPU when viewed this way. It is NOT, however, using 70% of my total processor capacity.

  • CAN taking Near 100% of CPU

I have been on this problem for a few weeks now and still unable to fix the problem:
    Description of the problem:
1- When reading from 2 CAN channels with a Real-Time PXI Controller, the Processor runs between 70% and 80% (but most often at 80%). (Nothing else runs on the RT, but it will be required that more vis to run on it in the futur.) When running the vi on the Host PC, the processor on the RT controller tops at 100%. Some Data loss occurs.
2- Minor problem:  Board doesn't always reset even with 2 resets.)
Program Content (view attachement for more details):
1- While Loop at 2500us containing a sequence structure to read 2 Canbus ports in sequence. To read the CAN, I use a ncGetAttr (Read Entries Pending) followed with a ncReadNetMult.v. Data is then unbundled and set into an array in order to use a shared variable (using Real-Time FIFO). This alone takes 80% of the CPU LOAD.
2- First sequence: Canbus Reset.vi. Second Sequence has the Config (set at 1MHz), Open then CActions of Reset and Start.
    Description of Task:
Read 2 CAN channels from a UUT on a Real-Time PXI Controller (8196). 16 CAN frames per whole CAN Message per channel. The 16 CAN frames are sent in 2.5ms. The Host PC that reads the data from the Real-Time Controller at any rate (I usually set it at 4 times the loop time of the RT Target).
    FIFO Configuration:
12 elements of the CAN frame + RT TickCounter. As 64bits Double or 64 bits U64. 13 elements per array. 512 Arrays (this number varied alot). The lower the # of arrays, the more random data loss occurs, but the higher it is, the more the duration of data loss is long. Note that sometimes i get the last frame and appears in the log as many times as loop size.
    Host PC:
Reads the Shared Variable in a For Loop with the #the same as the FIFO size (or higher).
Note: Many Disable diagrams, but doesn't affect the program in any way. Its other tests done.
    Thank you.

Thanks for the replies, I fixed the loss of data, but not the CPU load by doing the following:
I finally tried Queues on the RT (didn't earlier because it was way too slow to execute when I was running my simulation on Windows). I based my vi with the NI Example Queue basics.vi. I also optimized CReadMult, I send the Data direclty into an array with I insert the Tickcount* then send it to the Host PC for it to process the rest of the frame building and then to process the information. Doing both (Queues + CReadMult) helped since now I do not have anymore loss of data, however the CPU LOAD goes up to from ~75% (at start) to 87-89% and stays there.
*Tickcount: I've noticed a weird effect with the Tickcount: I'm sending the msec time and the loop which adds it to the array is set at 2.5ms, however the tickcount read at the Host PC is always on a 10ms timer difference (instead of ~2.5) which also seems to correspond to the same loop timer as the secondary while loops that all they do is sent the information to the Host PC.  The priority of the CAN loop is 1 and the priority of the SV loops are 100. Unless i'm mistaken, priority 1 should be of highest priority and 100 is lowest (excuted only when CPU has "extra" time).
    With the Queues:
Currently it worked (without data loss) when both CAN channels are read in sequence with 2 different loops to send the informatiosn to the PC through shared variables. The RT FIFO is set at 32 Arrays of 2048 Elements. 2048 because the CReadMult seemed to have been going up really high randomly. I have not had the time to optimize the RT FIFO or really know how to cound it exactly. When using the size indicator of the Queues, they are always full. I only use Enqueue and Dequeue.
    @O_Proulx:
CReadMult seems to be the main problem of the dynamic array since the information gotten from the CAN seems to vary alot. Are you saying I should insert the data from CReadMult into a fixed array size before sending it through the SV ? I don't think that would help since it seems that the CReadMult automatically creates dynamic arrays.
     @Caleb:
Like I said previously in this post, I stripped everything down, even the bitwise operations of CReadMult to do them on the Host PC. I'm using the NI PXI-8461/2 Series 2 2-Port High-Speed Can. Next time I get time on the benchtest, I'll verify the CPU Load time when removing the SV loops.
    Thanks.

  • What is "uninstalld" and why does it take up nearly 100% of CPU?

I recently upgraded from 2 to 4GB of RAM because my iMac was running slow. It works better now but my activity monitor shows only 45MB free right now even though I'm only using Safari. • Disk used suddenly jumps by nearly 100% unexpectedly

    Good afternoon
I have run into something which is of concern to me. My organisation has been using DPM without issue to backup various things like system state on DC's, Exchange DAGs. I run weekly reports on the disk utilisation. It has been growing steadily by circa 0.4%
a week. Suddenly the reports showed a huge increase in usage, 91.46%.
This of course came as a huge surprise and I have no idea why it occurred. What I am after is some help in diagnosing the cause of this or if anyone has seen anything similar before? I am wondering how I can track this down to the exact date and time the
    jump occurred?
Attached is a screenshot of a disk utilisation report. I can think of no reason why the disk utilisation should have doubled.

I was finally able to identify that the unexplained increases in disk utilisation were caused by expired recovery points not being deleted as expected.
Running the script pruneshadowcopies.ps1 would not run properly and would crash (this script is supposed to run automatically nightly to remove old expired recovery points, so presumably because it was crashing when I ran it manually it would display the
same behaviour when it was run automatically by DPM). I managed to resolve the problems by deleting one of the protection groups and then re-ran the script which this time did not crash and removed expired recovery points as expected. I don't really know why
    this worked however.

Is the antivirus tool set to exclude the CiscoWorks directory, specifically the db directory, from scanning? This is known and documented to cause problems as the CiscoWorks db will constantly be contending with the AV tool as db files are accessed.
I couldn't find the reference in the LMS 3.2 guides, but here is a link to the information in the LMS 4.0 guide.
I have also found that once the CiscoWorks server is functioning properly on a supported platform that it is best to not just apply hotfixes and services packs as soon as they come out. They have a tendency to change the functioning of the server in unpredictable ways given the tight integration and dependencies that the CiscoWorks software has with the underlying operating system.
The server itself should be a restricted access machine that can count on access being limited to remote users using it only for CiscoWorks and local users being administrators doing only those few tasks that require local server access. It should not be exposed to public access and the resultant attack vectors for malware etc. that many hotfixes are intended to address.
    Hope this helps.

  • HP2740p expansion battery problem - slow, 100% cpu

Posting this problem because it took us months to figure out root cause.  When expansion battery for 2740p gets old and tablet tries to charge it the computer slows to a crawl - seriously slow and unworkable.  It's tough to troubleshoot the machine in this state.  CPU shows at or near 100% and task manager doesn't show processes consuming all the resources.  Mouse movement and clicks are slow - everything slow.
Occurs most often to people who have lot of meetings when they dock.  Seems to only happen when tablet is ON when it gets plugged in.  If tablet is OFF, then docked, and then turned ON problem doesn't occur.  We have dozens of this model and it's totally reproducable with different tablets and batteries.  Downloaded HP Battery Check app and it shows all batteries that cause this problem with status Replace.
We run Win7 enterprise and downloaded all latest drivers on HP support.  Obvious fix is remove or replace expansion battery.
    Cheers,
    John

    Nevermind!
Sorry for the trouble. The problem was that last time I compiled the code, it reverted back to and older version of a class I had compiled days ago. Why it did this is totally beyond me... but it did, and it just so happens that the old version of that class combined with the new version of my program were the perfect recipe for an infinite loop.
Seriously, if you are in inveterate debugger, you might get a good laugh out of this. I've spent the last week and a half trying to find a way to set the Windows console into cbreak mode (single character processing rather than line-at-a-time processing), and I finally managed to do it by writing some c code and putting it into a DLL with the JNI. So now my program (which runs from the console) can process each character as it is entered rather than waiting for a line return. The older version of the class that got reverted was one that used System.in rather than the input stream generated by the socket. I had set it to System.in for testing purposes, and apparently that testing version is the one it got reverted back to. So combine the two, and you have a console that is feeding System.in each character as it is pressed and a socket wrapper that is listening infinitely. It was a mess... but an uncannily serindipitous mess...
    Ahh... debugging... good time...

  • Java app. consuming 100% of PC resouces

I have an application that works great with the exception that it comsumes all resouces on a PC running Windows 2000 or XP. When the application is running multitasking by the OS is nearly disabled. Looking at resouces consumed, the Java application is consuming nearly 100% of the CPU.
Does it sound like a major problem with the application, i.e. memory leak? Are there any common mistakes in programming Java that causes this issue? How can I correct the problem?

    Memory leak is not likely.
Sloppy programming could require too many resources - indeed occupying the PC unnecessarily:
event handling etcetera. There you could look at changes to SwingUtilities.invokeLater.
I would advise first to switch to the newest stable java, 1.4.
First you might give the application a larger memory to start with:
    java -Xms100m -Xmx200m ....
This would start the app with 100 MB and allow it to go to 200 MB.
Start the app from command line, so you might see System.out and System.err.
