LMS 4.1 - Fault Notification Group
I've populated my LMS v4.1 device database with all our managed devices (192.168.x.x). When I go to 'FAULT NOTIFICATION GROUP' and I must select either the nodes or groups that are associated with this this group, certain nodes are not appearing in the list where I must add them to the group.
As another test, I've created a 'USER DEFINED GROUP' and added all the nodes into it (including the ones I did not see in my prior test). When I add the "UDG" to the 'FNG", most of the are listed int he "Group Subscription Summary" but not all nodes.
I am running LMS v4.1 on Windows 2008.
I suspect it has something to do with the status of the device but I'm still trying to figure it out.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
thanks Joe for your efforts! - and again, you are correct...
resolver.pl LMSserverName
returned 127.0.0.1 as the servers' address - and where did it come from? - the hosts file... There, the hostname and FQDN of the server had entries which pointed to 127.0.0.1 - no clue why this was done. For a test I commented out these entries and at least resolver.pl now returns the correct IP address of the server.
I tried to force a Fault Notification Trap to be sent, but currently no chance; Usually I can do this by just clear a currently active event which gets forwarded, but this time it seems not working. I can mark the event, I get a pop-up to to change the name and make annotations, I even can click on "Yes" to confirm the action -but then nothing happens. - I tried these steps a couple of times the last 45 mins- I think I will wait know until the HighUtil goes a way and drink a wine meanwhile :-)
and I believe cenAlarmServerAddress will be correct now...

LMS 4.1 No User Defined Groups shown in Fault Notification Groups?
Hi,
I created some User Defined Groups in LMS 4.1, now I want to apply certain fault notification groups to Event Sets.
Unfortunately the Groups I configured are not in the Group Selector of the Fault Notification Group:
Admin > Network > Notification and Action Settings > Fault Notification Group
Am I missing something?
Thanks for help!It is not generic, Are you superuser? Any device restictions?
Cheers,

Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 – Email Notifications Issue
We currently use Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 with over 1000 devices in the database. I'm a LMS novice. And have been assigned the task of minimising the amount of email notification’s we receive, as if one device goes Operationally Down all devices off that switch also send alerts to the email notification group, which in turn overwhelms the mailbox.
The ports are configured not to log or send snmp traps.
no logging event link-status
no snmp trap link-status
So any advice on how we can limit these alerts being generated would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.Hi Nessie,
Go to Monitor > Fault Settings > Setup > Fault Device Details
select the device and click on view then Click on the hyperlink or the device name\ip address
that will bring a new window from there click on Interface and chanaged the Managed state from ture to FLASE for those interfaces for which you do not want ALERTS.
Thanks-
Afroz

LMS 4.2 email notifications for node down
I need help configuring an email alert so that when a node (switch, router, etc) is unreachable, i will recieve an email notification. So far i have tried creating an event set then notification group and then email subscription. This does not seem to be exactly what i am looking for. I think this could create alerts for any interface that is unreachable.
thanks!LMS does not works this way unfortunately, and is not able to generate alert/notification for node/device down.
Fault Management manages doesn't manages device as a whole, instead it manages device on aspects of Environment, System and Interface groups.
It can mostly analyse a card down when many of the similar ports go down in one, but generally it will will manage device explicitly for above categories, which is further subdivided into :
Environment : Power Suppoly, Fan and Temp. Sensor
System : Processor and Memory
InterfaceStatus: Port, Interface, IP and Card
The kind of Events if can generate are following and also mentions the situation in which it will be generated:

LMS 3.2 - DFM Notification Services issue
My customer installed an LMS 3.2 on Windows 2008 Server with SP1.
Now the DFM Notification Services causing Problems.
We configured for a test the Event Set A and setup a Notification group with the following boxes ticked:
Alert Severity
Critical Informational
Alert Status
Active
Event Selection
Event Set: A
Event Severity
Critical Informational
Event Status
Active
And all Devices marked in the device selector.
At least the E-Mail configuration was set.
Now none of the Alerts or Events generate an automated e-mail, while the manual mailing from the AAD is working.
I restarted the LMS dmgtd and founf the following lines in the DFMLogServer.log:

What is causing these Problem? A corrupt database or some invalid setting??
Does anybody has an idea?

thanks for your fast reply.

The setup instruction from TAC:
1- Stop the daemon manager:
net stop crmdmgtd
2- Go to:
$NMSROOT/MDC/tomcat/webapps/triveni/WEB-INF/classes/com/cisco/nm/trx/nos/server
and backup the original files (either copy them to another safe directory or rename them to something like . Please don't retain the original extension when renaming the files.
3- Make sure that the patch files have the following MD5s:
MD5 (ProcessEPMDataManager$EpmDataQueueItem$epmAlarmHistory.class) = 08851732b0b3aac5bb0636cc3e8e3c10
MD5 (ProcessEPMDataManager$EpmDataQueueItem$epmConditionHistory.class) = 7933e55abb6ad604aa6ca8d3126ff189

MD5 (ProcessEPMDataManager.class) = a6ec024955bb638d8fec47694816a82a3-
4- Replace the originals in the above mentioned directory with these versions.
5 Start the Daemon manager:
net start crmdmgtd
I followed these instructions and still facing the problem.
I also searched for the libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll, i found them, but in a path not included in the Windows PATH variable. Therefore these files should not influence LMS.
In the NOS Log i still see these messages:
10-May-2010|15:01:10.027|ERROR|NOS|Process EPM Data Thread:Pooled Thread:1|EpmDataQueueItem|processEPMData()|.|Caught Exception in processEPMData(): java.util.NoSuchElementException

10-May-2010|15:01:39.747|DEBUG|NOS|Thread-5|EPMPoller|pollEPM_Wash()|.|No DB Exception in polling
Since these Messages depends on EPM Data i had a look into the EPMServer.log and EPM.log
The EPMServer.log is shortened and showing all entries from the last dmgtd start. After the usual urn_not_found messages and the init of the Groups the following entry is generated:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at com.cisco.nm.trx.epm.providers.alarm.AlarmUpdateListener.processUpdatedAlarm(Unknown Source)
at com.cisco.nm.trx.epm.providers.alarm.AlarmUpdateListener.run(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:595)
After that i changerd the logging of EPM to debug and attached the file as EPM_Debug.zip to this post.
Thanks a lot for your valuable support so far.

DFM- Not able to edit a Notification Group
Hi,
I need help, because I can't edit a Notification Group successfully because when I click "Finish" (after editing) it sends me an error (attached). Previous, I had stopped all suscriptions. After the editing and the error DFM is blocked so I can't see any information about Notification Services and I recover information when I restart de daemon.
Could you help me please, to solve this issue? Because I need to edit 7 Notification Group.
I use LMS3.1 on Windows 2003, I have arround 1550 devices in DFM.
I send you pdshow too.
Thanks in advance! This may be related to : CSCsq80950
Can you upgrade to DFM 3.1.1 or 3.1.2 and see if the problem persists? -
DFM 3.0.5 Notification Groups - no devices found
Hello! I'm in the process of reconfiguring our DFM module have some significant network changes. I've reinitialized the modules databases and manually imported a test group of routers into DFMs device management. The devices have been found and have a known status in the device summary.
When I begin the process to create a notification group for email based notifications, the notification group selection window shows no devices available. If I manually search for the devices, I am able to find them, but after selecting them, I'm given the following error:
"The devices contaminated in the subscription are no longer found in the inventory"
I've confirmed the devices existence in CS and RME. Any help would be appreciated.

LMS 4.0 Fault Management Module alert doesn't show CurrentUtilization
Hi,
I would like to know if there's a way to show CurrentUtilization percentage within the messages generated by the Fault Management Module in LMS 4.0
EVENT ID = 00008Z1
TIME = S
STATUS = Active
SEVERITY = Critical
MANAGED OBJECT = switch
MANAGED OBJECT TYPE = Switches and Hubs
EVENT DESCRIPTION = HighUtilization::Component=PORT-switch/11150 [Gi3/0/50] [---> TRUNK ];ComponentClass=Port;ComponentEventCode=1057;TrafficRate=5.2261432E7 BYPS;DuplexMode=FULLDUPLEX;UtilizationThreshold=40;MaxSpeed=1000000000;Type
NOTIFICATION ORIGINATOR = Fault Management Module
As you can see above CurrentUtilization percentage is not shown in Event Description section.
Could someone help?
Thank you!
Massimiliano. To my knowledge nothing can be configured here.
You have to take traffic rate and max speed and do the calculation yourself
FAD! functioning as designed

I've just installed LMS 4.2, like it a lot so far. But I'm running into a few problems, and I'm hoping someone out here has a suggestion.
In the Fault Monitor, the Device Name column shows the device's IP address rather than the host name. We need for it to show the host name, for ease of troubleshooting; most folks don't have the IP addresses memorized. Likewise, when an email is sent out for an event, the managed device field also shows up as the device's IP address.
The devices were all discovered with their IP addresses rather than a host name...should LMS have automatically found their host names? Regardless, I manually updated all of the device's host names, yet they still display as an IP address in the fault monitor.
Also, it appears I need to figure out some way to throttle alerts. One particular device will report an event (ie a temperature out of range) dozens of times in a polling period...several per second, even though it's the same alert. Any suggestions on where I can throttle this? My inbox is exploding.
If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it!
JenI am having the IP vs. device name issue as well. The funny thing is if you hover over the IP of the device in Fault Monitor, you can see the device name listed. I was on a conference call with Cisco recently and pointed this out. One of the reps said the faults and alerts showing IP address issue should be fixed in version 4.2.3, but I don't know if he was basing this on first-hand knowledge or was just assuming. Does anyone know if this is the case?
As for throttling alerts. I had a false positive alert from a device that I put in a custom fault group and changed the threshold on to keep them from firing. You probably have already resolved this issue, but I didn't see a resolution listed here. You would have to determine if raising a threshold for a device is adequate for your situation.
Thank you,

Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 – Fault Device Details Issue
We currently use Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 but when I go into, Monitor > Fault Settings > Setup > Fault Device Details
I get the following message (see attached document with screenshot) and being a LMS newbie am unsure what to do? As have tried to search for this
file but no luck.
So thanks in advance for any advice.Check if the fault management rediscovery page shows device as discovered and known or does it have any errors?
Are you able to generate any fault management reports and view other pages?
Just try to reboot the server/restart daemon to see if it is goes away.
Else it is mostly corrupt FM DB. Which would need to be re-initialized.
Fault Mgmt reinitialize is very simple task, which doesnt removes a lot of data, except past 31 days of FM history and custom notifications, if configured.
Thanks
Vinod

LMS 4.2 - Two notifications for one alarm.
Currently when a device, say a router goes offline we receive two Active 'Unresponsive' alarms for the router and then when it comes back online we receive two Cleared 'Unresponsive' alarms. All have their own unique Event ID. (shown below)
I was wondering if anyone could help me to config LMS to send only one Active 'Unresponsive' notification when a device is offline and then one Cleared 'Unresponsive' when the device is back online.
Here's an example of the Active 'Unresponsive' alarms I receive when I power the router off:

Any suggestions?Am I alone with this issue of receiving two notifications for one Unreachable event?

Regards,
ChannaHi,
The unidentified trap message in fault manager is expected when LMS receives a trap that is not in the list of traps that the fault manager is capable of processing.
Here are the traps that fault manager can process:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4-2/user/guide/lms_monitor/lms_mnt/TrapFwd.html
The SNMP traps are only processed by the fault manager and as per the document above the ones that will be identified are pre-defined and the list cannot be modified.
Clearing an Unidentified Trap
You can manually clear Unidentified Traps from LMS. To do this:
Step 1 Select the Unidentified Trap and click Clear.
A message appears prompting you to confirm the clearing.
Step 2 Enter your user ID.
This will be used as a reference to identify who cleared the Unidentified Trap.
Step 3 Click OK to confirm.
The Unidentified trap is cleared.
To retain the trap click Cancel.

LMS 4.2 User Defined Groups Empty after Daemon restart
Hello
I need some help here.
In order to get topology services to run on a non resolvable DNS server I have followed the instructions in the online help and got Topology Services to start. My issue now is that all my userdefined groups are empty and I can not edit them - it gives me a error message.
Checked the parent groups and these are as supposed - the system groups - subnet groups fx are also populated.
What do you advise?
I have read oither posts and some people were advised to restart crmdmgtd as in this thread:
net stop crmdmgtd
net start crmdmgtd
http://https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3414498#3414498
Should I just follow the same steps? I can not see find this process in 4.2
Thanks Isaac
PS: These were the steps followed in order to make Topology Services to work.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Cisco Prime LMS client must be able to resolve the hostname of the Cisco Prime LMS server to server's IP Address, through DNS.
If the Cisco Prime LMS server is not DNS resolvable, Cisco Prime LMS client can access it with the IP address itself, by performing the following steps:
Open the orb.properties file. Solaris or Soft Appliance: NMSROOT/lib/classpath Windows: NMSROOT\lib\classpath where NMSROOT is the directory where you have installed Cisco Prime LMS. Set the property as follows: jacorb.dns.enable=off Go to Admin > Trust Management > Local Server > Certificate Setup.
The Certificate Setup page appears. Enter the IP Address of the Cisco Prime LMS Server in the Hostname textbox. Populate the other columns as explained in the Online help for Administration of Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2. Click Apply to generate the self-signed certificate. Restart the daemons. See the Online help for Administration of Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2 for instructions. You will be able to launch Topology Services with the IP address itself.Hi Michel and thanks for the reply.
The "Physical Location" groups magically started working. I had tried to apply a bunch of device update packages a couple of days ago. I thought they all failed but maybe some of them actually applied. I have no idea but the 2 groups with a rule like this one are now populating:
Device.Hostname startswith "XYZ"
However, the groups with the rule below are still failing to populate in the device selector even though if I edit the group the "Objects matching criteria" list contains the correct members:
Device.Admin_responsibility equals "XYZ"
Admin_responsibility is user defined field 1 (Admin => Device Credential Settings => User Defined Fields).
If you mean "dynamic" in that they are supposed to automatically update then yes these are dynamic public groups. I had them defined this way for years in LMS 2.6, though the "dynamic" part never worked. I always had to go into group admin and manually refresh to get the groups to update. I have tried that several times in 4.1 with no luck.

Cisco Works LMS 4.0 - Fault Monitor Issue
Hi!,
I have a little problem with the LMS application. when I try to access to the screen of: Monitor --> Monitoring Tools --> Fault Monitor, the application shows an error message that only said: "Sorry an error occurred" and thats all.
Any idea of what can I try in order to solve this?,
Thanks,Hi Duong!, thanks for your reply. The services was restarted but the problem still exist (the process DFMCTMStartup is allways down although I started manually)
And the only change that I see is that the Fault Monitor Screen show first a message "There are no faults available" but I Have marked 46 Faults!" -
LMS 3.2 Email Notification
Hi,
We are running LMS 3.2. And email notification is configured and working.
Our issue is , we are receiving so many emails. And it is not occuring exactly at the same time anything goes wrong.
How do we make the configuration, so that we get an email saying, this device is down/ having errors.Post a sample of the email and remove any private info just so we can understand if you are getting the issue from RME or DFM. Most likely its DFM and you need to take a look at how you have configured your notification services.
