LMS 4.2.2 Fault discovery stalls, never complete

Using LMS 4.2.2 on a network with approx 800 devices. Fault discovery runs for long periods without completion, previously known devices sit in learning state for long long periods. Some devices do become known but this seems random as to which ones. Faults are still reported on devices in a learning state, which means there are often many faults reported which are false. However because devices are in learning state the false positives cannot be weeded out. This problem has been occuring since LMS 4.0 so have not had Fault and event monitoring working properly for some time, however would seriously like to utilise this feature.
Would appreciate any pointers as to where to start... Mark

I am having the IP vs. device name issue as well. The funny thing is if you hover over the IP of the device in Fault Monitor, you can see the device name listed. I was on a conference call with Cisco recently and pointed this out. One of the reps said the faults and alerts showing IP address issue should be fixed in version 4.2.3, but I don't know if he was basing this on first-hand knowledge or was just assuming. Does anyone know if this is the case?
As for throttling alerts. I had a false positive alert from a device that I put in a custom fault group and changed the threshold on to keep them from firing. You probably have already resolved this issue, but I didn't see a resolution listed here. You would have to determine if raising a threshold for a device is adequate for your situation.
Thank you,
Mark

  • LMS 4.2.2 Fault Discovery - Network Adapters Limit Exceeded

Running fault device discovery after adding approx 50 new devices to LMS DCR. It seems I have reached a limit in DFM with regards to how many device components it can manage. The devices are put into questioned mode and the following error is seen in the Question State Device Report
Network Adapters Limit Exceeded. The number of Network Adapters discovered by Fault Management exceeded the maximum supported limit. Please check on screen help for more information.
What is the limit that is being referred to here? Is it independent of the LMS device licence? Where can I see how many "network adapters" LMS is monitoring? I have approx 900 devices being managed by LMS on a 1500 device licence. I am running LMS 4.2.2
Any light you could shed on this would be appreciated
    Thanks,
    Mark

I've come across this a few times. I did not find a solution. It went away with a reinstall.
What seems to happen is that somehow DFM puts all the device interfaces in a managed state.
    It should not.
It should only manage the ports and interfaces that connect to another managed device.
There is a hardcoded limit of 40.000 managed ports in DFM.
    Suspected situations:
On one server where I found this the system locale that I put to us-english, was somehow put back to be-french. Maybe even during the installation, not sure who or what did this.
On another server the anti-virus which I  had turned off, was turned back on during installation, probably by a policy server.
    Cheers,
    Michel

My FCPX boots up and then says restoring windows and stays there and never completely boots.  I've tried everything.  Any thoughts?

Please state what you have tried - there's no point in people here wasting their valuable (own) time trying to help you, only to find you've already tried what they are suggesting.
Have you tried trashing your preferences?
Unexplained faults like this can often be fixed by clearing out FCP X's preferences (for some reason, they get knotted up from time to time).
Download Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager (free, simple to use, and perfectly safe, both to download and use).
With Preference Manager, you can backup the Prefs first, then if trashing makes no difference, you can restore all your settings.
If you trash them and don't restore them, you will need to manually restore all your FCP X settings again, so it's a great idea to backup Preferences from time to time when FCP X is working well, then if they get corrupted you can ditch the bad prefs and restore from your (Digital Rebellion) backup.
Can't guarantee it, but it's worth a try.
If that doesn't work, move your projects and events (if you have any) to new folders so that FCP X doesn't find them, then relaunch the application. If it launches OK, there's a very good chance one of your projects or events is corrupt or one of the files in an event is corrupt.
Quit the app, then move one event or project at a time back to the original folder and launch FCP X agian - keep going until you find the cause.

  • IPod sync never completes, if I cancel the sync a large portion of my music disappears

Hi, hopefully someone here can help!
I have recently had an issue with my iPod touch and iTunes 12.0.1.26. It has been a bit of a pain to sync ever since that update that screwed up other people's iThings but I hadn't had a problem in a few months. Now whenever I try to sync it will take a long time and never complete, always getting hung up on the last step before anything is transferred. If I unplug or cancel I get an error box that says the iPod couldn't be recognised and the sync failed to start even though it would get through to that last bit after backing itself up. After each failed attempt the Other data section becomes bigger until I get another error saying that there is not enough space on my iPod for everything, sometimes it is over capacity by 10GB. Every time this happens I end up with less and less music on my iPod until I get incomplete playlists and entire albums wiped off. After this the only solution seems to be a factory reset and restore from backup, which I have done twice already this week.
My phone will sync with no issues so I am not sure if it is a software or hardware problem. Its winding me up, anyone have any ideas? I have already removed and reinstalled iTunes and have done a reset on the iPod.

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reboot the computer
    - Try another USB port
    - Try another cable
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

    Question
I have a MacBook and I am unable to successfully update Firefox. I click "Update Firefox" and it's starts updating but never completes the process. I sometimes leave it for hours and it's still updating! It's almost as if something is blocking it ffrom completing the process. Please help

Next time an app update gets stuck try a reset. Press and hold both the home and power buttons for10-15 seconds till the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons. Wait till your iPad starts on it's own. Try now. Also YouTube is still available. If you can't find it the the app store go to the bottom of the app store page and tap purchased. All your deleted apps will be listed and you can reinstall YouTube from there.

  • Time Machine back up never completes as estimate backup grows

Following a recent HD failure on my 2008 IMAC I have invested in a new 2014 Mac Mini (2.6 GHz Intel Core i5) with 8GB RAM and 1TB HD.
I have restored my IMAC data to my Mac Mini from an old WD External drive so the Mac Mini now holds 399GB data.
I have also purchased a 2TB Time Capsule.
The problem I have is when trying to perform the first full back-up of the Mac Mini to the Time Capsule using Time Machine the back-up never completes.
    Steps followed:
    - I click options within Time Machine where you have the chance to exclude back-ups, this shows estimated back-up size as 399GB agreeing with my HD view.
    - I start back-up and and as soon as it commences it reads backing up 0.00GB of 431.25GB (Not sure where the extra 31GB comes from)
    - I leave this to run and when the first figures gets to around 390GB of 431GB both figures start to increase. This never ends!
    - I have tried the Time Capsule via WIFI and cable and same issue occurs.
    - I have tried switching the Time Capsule for the old WD Hard Drive and again the same issue.
    - My sons Mac Mini back-ups fine using TM with either of these drives so it appears that there is something wrong with TM on my new iMac.
I have considered purchasing an alternative to TM but would rather use TM as it has worked fine for me over the years.

Command-click all of the files you want to delete and don't actually move them to the Trash until you've gone through the entire folder.
