LMS 4.2.4 intermittent Syslog issue

Hi All,
syslogs services on the LMS stops all of a sudden and doesn't reflect the current logs from the devices till we restart services.
Performed below steps
-> Found the device logs are making its way to syslog.log file(CSCOpx>logs)
-> SyslogCollector and SyslogAnalyzer are in healthy state.
-> Even the collector subscription status is fine.
After the restart of the SyslogCollector and SyslogAnalyzer  the logs reflects back on lms. Issue is intermittent and reappeared couple of times. any suggestions to find root of the problem ??
Regards,
Channa

second :
plan to upgrade the LMS from 4.2.4 to 4.2.5 .  LMS 4.2.5 have a fix of  the syslogs issue . in 4.2.5 syslogs are well managed.
BUG:CSCul38962 : Syslog dropping issue
above BUG is fixed in 4.2.5

  • Captivate 6 Output intermittent performance issues

I am getting feedback from users that some of my captivate e-learning is having intermittent performance issues when being run via our LMS. I am hearing of slow down and pausing between slides and questiosn in quizs. I have seen this in action and I cannot pin point what is causing this. The problem doesnt affect most users, then some will report these extreme slow downs.
I have ruled out any specific browser or OS. Does anyone have similar experiences and any ideas around what may be causing it? I want to rule out Captivate if possible and potentially point the finger at our LMS. However I dont know how the content within Captivate is cached/downloaded when being played.
Does anyone know how Captviate operates when run via an LMS. Does it download in full, or buffer content and download progressively as the person moves through the content? If I can work this out I may be able to pinpoint the problem.
Sorry if this is a bit vague, any help or additional experiences would be greatly appreciated.
    Jay

There is also network latency to consider, in addition to server latency.  In our building, network bandwidth availablity can surge or slow down depending on which subnetwork we're on, if there is several VOiP or web video conferencing sessions taking up bandwidth.  If you're distributing to geographically separated organizations, then you may also experience latency issues related to the local infrastructure.
    Just a thought...

Go step by step and test.
    1. Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly. It will take a while.
        Restart the computer.

  • IMac (2007) intermittent power issues

    Hi,
I have a 2007 iMac. I am getting intermittent power issues with it.
One day it wont power up at all...and might not power up for a number of weeks. And just when I have given up on it, it will power up and work for a wee while without any issues (including being shutdown nightly). It'll work for a while and then it'll stop working and again it may take a couple of weeks before it'll start working again.
Does anyone have any idea what might be the issue?
    any help/advise greatly appreciated.

Hi IsMiseAodh - did you ever determine what the cause of intermittent no response to power was?  I have a iMac with a similar problem.  Thanks!

I've got an intermittent CFMAIL issue that has me perplexed.
I'm using CFMAIL to email notifications of changes made to records in a database.  In the form that is used to make these changes there is a field that has email addresses of developers who need to be notified of these changes.  These are a comma-delimited list of email addresses (which, according to CF9 cfmail documentation on adobe.com, is the correct way of sending to more than one address.)
Some of the records will send the email, update the timestamp on the "mailsent.log", append the new email notification to "mailsent.log", and the email is received by the person(s) to whom it was sent.
Other records, however, will (apparently) send the email, will NOT update the timestamp on "mailsent.log", but WILL append a successfully sent entry to "mailsent.log" (even though the timestamp was not updated), and the email is NOT received by the person(s) to whom it was sent.  In these cases, the timestamp of the mailsent.log will not match the timestamp of the latest entry in the mailsent.log.
I've been able to determine one record that will always successfully complete the process, and one record that will always append a success entry (not altering the log timestamp) but the email will never reach its destination.  I am not seeing anything in any of the data that could break the transport of the email (it's all plain text, no special characters.)
    Any thoughts on this?
    Thank you,
    ^_^

UPDATE: I just now discovered something that is most likely causing this issue: more than one email address.
If the TO= of CFMAIL is "[email protected]", the email goes out without any issues.
If the TO= of CFMAIL is "[email protected],[email protected]", then the email is not received, the timestamp of the log file is not updated (even though the success message is appended to the log).
According to the docs for CF9 CFMAIL, the TO= field should be either a single email address -OR- a comma-delimited list of email addresses (or a query column that will be treated like a comma-delimited list).
    What could be causing this?
    Thanks,
    ^_^

  • Intermittent sound issue

    Hi,
Hope someone can help with this issue I'm having. It seems to be an intermittent issue but has started to happen more often recently.
Originally around a few months ago I would turn on all my devices (TV, AV Receiver and YouView Box) and I would not get any sound (I do get picture). By just switching channels, the sound would then be heard. I presumed it was a problem with the HDMI connections and it didnt happen all the time so not such an issue.
More recently (in the last 4 weeks) switching channels no longer returns the sound. I need to switch the you view box off and then back on to get sound. Again not such a big issue as although it was happening more often it was a simple work around.
However in the last few days the problem has gotten worse. Now instead of the no sound occurring when I switch everything on, the sound is turning off when I change channels and also when I'm just watching a channel. Again the fix is to just switch the you view box off and back on but because its happening at least once when I switch on and then at least once when I'm watching tv I'm actually starting to get a bit annoyed.
Could this be my setup or equipment or a problem with the youview box?
My you view software is; manufacturer 18.3.0, component 2.5.6, platform 1017 and ISP 90.
The you view is connected to a Onkyo TX-SR390 and then onto a LG 50PK590. All done vie HDMI.
    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi Jamie et al,
From the reports above, it appears there is an intermittent compatibility issue between the YouView Humax box and Onkyo A/V receivers. I'm not aware of any issues with other A/V receivers but it is not clear which of the devices is at fault.
    There are two simple workarounds:
    1. Set HDMI Audio Format to Stereo (no good if you want surround sound from HD channels and Video on Demand).
    2. Use an S/PDIF optical cable as Onkyo advised.
Option 2 is the best option - you just need a suitable optical (TOSlink) cable - available from the BT Shop or many high street shops for a few pounds (or eBay).
On the YouView STB be sure to set S/PDIF Audio Format to Surround (in Settings - TV Signal & Quality).
On the Onkyo receiver you should find a digital input screen that lets you assign the appropriate optical input to be associate with a particular HDMI input. See page 46 of the Onkyo TX-NR525 manual to assign the Optical audio input to your YouView source - this should override the HDMI audio.
      http://www.intl.onkyo.com/downloads/manuals/pdf/tx-nr525_manual_e.pdf
Note there is no loss of quality doing this with a YouView box - you will still get 5.1 Dolby Digital audio from programmes that have surround sound (e.g. some HD films, sport and drama on Freeview and Extra TV channels as well as Video on Demand).
(Note BluRay players can take advantage of the extra bandwidth available on HDMI to output Dolby True HD 7.1 etc which is not available over S/PDIF but I'm not aware of any Set Top Boxes that offer 7.1 audio).
I'll see if we can reproduce this and raise it as an issue if we can - thanks for providing the feedback from Onkyo.
Please let us know if this solves your problem or if you need any help.

  • RV320 Intermittent connectivity issues

We have been having intermittent problems with internet (WAN) connectivity on my wife's small business computer network.  Connectivity will be fine for a day or so, and then we will have a period of poor and frequently interrupted connectivity.  I have our router (a Cisco RV320K9NA) set to send me notifications about problems, and when our internet connection is disrupted, I receive the following notifications from the router:
    Mar 28 07:31:11 2015 routeree1df4 Network Log:  NSD FAIL WAN[1]
    Mar 28 07:32:11 2015 routeree1df4 Network Log:  NSD SUCCESS WAN[1]
    Mar 28 07:36:05 2015 routeree1df4 Network Log:  NSD FAIL WAN[1]
    Mar 28 07:39:08 2015 routeree1df4 Network Log:  NSD SUCCESS WAN[1]
    Mar 28 07:39:48 2015 routeree1df4 Network Log:  NSD FAIL WAN[1]
    Mar 28 07:40:58 2015 routeree1df4 Network Log:  NSD SUCCESS WAN[1]
The above is a sample, there are many more notifications of this type in the log.
Our network configuration is as follows:
Our internet provider's cable modem is connected to our router, which is connected to a Netgear ProSafe 24 port switch.  All of our network devices and computers are connected to the switch.
We have tried many things to fix this problem.  Our internet provider (Time Warner) has replaced their cable modem. We have replaced our router.  My wife increased the speed of our network connection based on usage data from the internet provider. I have replaced the ethernet cable between the router and the cable modem.
We have not been able to reproduce the connectivity problem when we directly connect a laptop to the cable modem, so the internet provider has decided that the issue must be internal to our network and/or router, washing their hands of the whole problem.
I'm technically proficient, but I'm no networking technician, so I'm looking for help and suggestions to fix this problem.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions that you can offer.

No, it was wireless. Here is the same test run whilst wired in. I don't understand this though. I wasn't complaining about the speed? I was complaining about the general intermittent connectivity issues we experience, and the regular lack of availability the service provides. Perhaps these are standard tests you have to run beforehand?
The last time I complained about my connectivity issues was in February. If you have access to the ticketing tool, you'll be able to see the nature of my complaint. It was ticket number: VOL051-4263008159178. Something was "done at the exchange" and someone logged onto my HH3 and changed the wireless channel and that "fixed" it. Trouble is, it's been the same ever since. We have a few hours where the connection is stable, then we'll start to get packet losses when trying to connect to sites like Google.co.uk, Bt.com etc etc.
I'm no expert, but this is clearly more than an issue with the wireless channel and some spurious problem at the exchange. This is a continuing nightmare for us which is preventing us from accessing the internet for hours at a time and therefore taking full advantage of the services we pay a lot of money for!

  • Intermittent syncing issue

    I've just upgraded to windows 7 x64
    (I'm running iphone 3gs 3.1.2/itunes 9.0.2 x64)
and now I get intermittent sync issues.
The applemobiledevicehelper.exe.00.log says: "11:24:41.059|AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe|2268:18394096|/SourceCache/DeviceLink X/DeviceLinkX-137.1/Utility/DeviceLinkListener.c:_copyMobileDeviceValue| ERROR: Could not connect to attached device: (null) (107)
    and
    applemobilebackup.exe.00.log says:
"2009-11-08 11:20:44.006|AppleMobileBackup.exe|9584:43045888|/SourceCache/DeviceLinkX/Devic eLinkX-137.1/WireProtocol/DeviceLinkConnection.c:_DLHandlerThreadMessagePortCall back| ERROR: Error calling connect: SocketStreamHandlerConnect: Can't connect to host: Socket error 6 (SocketErrorConnect)"
but if I restart the Apple Mobile Device service & delete the iPodDevices.xml file the iphone shows up fine and will work for a day and then I'll have to do the process again.
Is there something I can do to permanently fix this?

  • Intermittent connectivity issues

So I had a Motorola SB 6120 modem working for over 4 years with Comcast and all of the sudden I start getting intermittent connectivity issues at night (it could be during the day as well, but I am actively working and doing school work at night). The issue comes and goes. I call Comcast and they swear up and down its my modem - which I dont believe since Im the connectivity issues are not fixed by resseting it, just waiting it out. I go ahead and get a new modem (SB6141) and router - spending over $200 and guess what - still having the identical issue. I call in and the support person states that as far as the modem goes everything is fine but the signal is dropping (same issue, two different conclusions after a good amount of arguing on my end and $200 I wont see back). So I tech comes back but I have to be at work and leave my wife and brother in law at home to make sure he comes by. When I get home apparently the tech had stated that "the modem was not correctly registered". That means that my other modem wasnt? And that an uncorrectly registered modem works from time to time? ... Really? So I try to do a live chat since again, I have to work and cant waste my entire day waititing for comcast to fess up and admit their service is the issue. And here is the part of the conversation in which I basically gave up hope on getting anywhere:Akemi: Sometimes if your modem is plugged to Comcast outlet you should be also receiving inetrnet signals, but then becasue if it is not properly registered you will be expriencing intermittent connection.----------------------------------------------------------MARCOS: ok, let me see if i can get itMARCOS: meanwhile, can u tell me how my modem may have been "incorrectly registered" and still working for over 30 daysAkemi: Much appreciated, thank you so much.MARCOS: and how that can be the cause of intermittent issues - since it seems like a lieAkemi: Sometimes if your modem is plugged to Comcast outlet you should be also receiving inetrnet signals, but then becasue if it is not properly registered you will be expriencing intermittent connection.MARCOS: that makes no sense. that modem was not working WHATSOEVER until I called. the modem shouold have been blocked by the MAC addressMARCOS: should*MARCOS: otherwise any1 can get comcast tv, plug in a router from best buy and have internetAkemi: Thanks for the info.---------------------------------------------------------Can someone help? • Intermittent ActiveSync issues with iPhone4 through TMG

    Hi,
I've got a few iPhone 4's which are connecting to Exchange 2007 through TMG 2010 (SSL Certs + AD Creds).
On the face of things, all this works. I can Sync email, get calendar updates etc, but for one or two users (myself included) I keep getting intermittent syncing issues including.
    1. Only the headers will download, meaning I can open an email, but will just get the "Loading..." animation until I eventually get the message "This message has not been downloaded from the server."
    2. After finally getting up to date with email, the phone will suddenly start syncing from scratch again, going back as far as is configured in the mail settings. eg 1 day, 3 days etc. and will eventually get up to date, working fine for a while but eventually resyncing from scratch again.
    3. It seems to be busy syncing when there's nothing to sync until TMG eventually throws a "10053 An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine".  Something I'll shortly mention in a TMG forum
    4. There are times it claims its checking for mail, but I can see on our Cisco firewall and TMG it hasn't attempted to contact us at all after a few minutes I'll see it make contact and it will sync fine.
Meanwhile, in between these errors, it seems to be absolutely fine...  until it isn't.
Any ideas?  I've tried wiping the phone, clearing it out from user exchange profiles, etc but it hasn't worked.
    Thanks
    Paul

Well it really went from bad to worse with regard to the mic. Pretty much stopped working entirely for phonecalls although seemed fine for video, audio recording and skype. Headset made no difference either so I can only assume that it the issue lies between the main mic and the noise cancelling mic (doubt they are used for video, skype etc)
After along conversation with apple they are sending out a new phone with UPS as part of the advanced replacement service although I do have to pay £30 for the privilege, still better than having to wait for repair etc!
    Regards

  • Intermittent PMU Issue

My G4 MDD Dual 1.25 has been acting up lately. Sleep from the power button for from the apple menu doesn't work and after attempted, certain features such as "About This Mac" cannot be performed, along with other (abeit, minor) instabilities. Following the advice I have gleaned from this forum, I have been resetting the PMU which fixes the problems. Everything seems okay for about 1-3 weeks, then the same power issues surface again. I installed a new fresh battery, but the intermittent PMU issue is still there. Really strange. It works well, then it begins with an error message on startup about the Date and Time being set before March of 2001 or something like that, then the sleep and power issues follow. Anyone else experience this?
    G4 MDD Dual 1.25 2mb L3 Cache
    OSX.4.11
No apparent issues with USB or Firewire connections, after unplugging all except the keyboard and mouse--the same power issues are present after restart.
I am using a TripLite Batter backup unit that keeps the utility power constant at 120v.
I posted the above topic back in August of 2008, after searching for an answer in this forum and elsewhere. Here I am to report on the final fix. I replaced the power supply unit, and all the issues went away. This was not seemingly a straightforward solution, at least not to me. For over a year, the issue became more serious with frequent occasions when the computer did not even start. Hit the button and the light would appear for moment but no power up. I kept reading anything I could for an answer. I tried anything and everything I read on forums, but the problem persisted. It took several months, but eventually I read about the possible cause being the power supply unit, so I got a used replacement from ebay. I was so relieved to see the computer start up on the first attempt. Two weeks later, no issues. Just thought I would share my experience and maybe help someone who reads this.

Has new fresh battery. Problem persists. Perhaps some error with the PMU chip itself? Would there be a firmware update to fix the problem?

  • Syslog issue in LMS 4.2

Hi I am facing weired issue with devcies syslogs. I can see syslog from only few devices though we have 160 devices.
can any one help me to get it running.
    Thanks

First thing to look at is if the devices are configured properly to send syslogs to ciscoworks.
If yes, check Syslog.log (win) or syslog_info (sol/lin) to see if the missing devices syslog appears in that file. If the syslog is present in file, check filters if the filters are configured properly to forward the syslog to syslog DB else they might be dropped.
Attached image explains the Ciscoworks Syslog Architechture properly.

  • Yoga 2 Pro touch screen no longer working & intermittent USB issues

    Hey.
Got the Yoga 2 Pro 2 weeks ago. The touchscreen does not work at all today. I've reset/shutdown many times.
Here are the issues I have had in order of occurrence:
    - webcam intermittently not coming up during verifice login on resume from sleep (probably ~ 10 times)
    - touchscreen went mental, registering hundreds of touches per second all over the screen. Sleeping and waking stopped the mayhem. This happened JUST after plugging in a USB flash drive (which I have used before successfully).
    - touchscreen does not work at all. Last night I had my phone plugged in to the laptop for a couple of hours. Touchscreen worked fine I unplugged the phone, but this morning on wake it is not responding at all no matter how many reboots I do.
The first two issues on their own I probably would have ignored, and this ccurrent issue I could imagine being some driver thing. But I worry that the two of them together imply some sort of big USB fault.
I'm not sure what the touchscreen is meant to come up as in device manager, but I've inluded a screenshot below.
Pretty desparate right now. I'm hoping this isn't a  hardware fault because I need this laptop for work =$
Anyway, any advice/idas would be greatly appreciated.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As an update for anyone else experiencing this problem...
I left the laptop charging, put it to sleep, and went away for an hour or so.
I just came back and woke it from sleep. The battery is now at 92%. The touchscreen now works fine.
Checking device manager, there are now additional devices listed under "Human Interface Devices". See attached screenshot.
Although it is now working, this and the other issues have been super annoying and I'd like to know if anyone else has anything similar happen, or if there are any fixes.

    Hi there,
i have an issue with the lms 4.2 Topology Data Collection. After installation the Topology Data Collection was running normaly, but since first server reload the Topo Data Collect under Inventory > Dashboards > Device Status > Collection Summary is "frozen". It only shows the following content from first run:

Is there any option to stop this process elsewhere? I cannot find anything under jobs in running state or so. Clicking on Schedule only give me the option to start data collection, but lms always returns that the process is running.
