LMS 4.2 - DFM operation ?
Hi,
I'm wondering what is required for DFM in LMS 4.2 to work properly. I've migrated it from LMS 3.2.1 an it was quite easy to set up : tie master and slave server with DCR, allow some ports (icmp, snmp) for DFM and the discovery process started without a problem.
Now, I have same configuration (the server is the same) but it looks like DFM is not going to allocate any devices and is not going to start discovery at all. They are present in CS but DFM is not seeing them. What could be preventing DFM from starting?
Greets,
Tomek
The connection between the ciscoworks GUI and the DFM repository is not 'optimal', or something like that. It's complicated.
What could cause the behavior you mention however, is either someone rediscovering devices that are still in learning state, or the presence of multiple active rediscovery schedules.
You may even delete all schedules excepts the default redisovery schedule which you can/should suspend. If the problem then stays away you know what caused it.
At this stage any device that really changes must be rediscoverd in DFM manually.
I think Admin -> Fault takes you to a page showing the schedule, if not lookup 'fault rediscovery schedule' in the help.
Cheers,
Michel

Lms 4.x dfm alert oper/unresp.
Hi,
few of the interfaced in routers switches went down and the alarm was not displayed in lms 4.2.3 dfm activities pages..
my observation was that, there were unresponsive alarms generated, and according to my knowledge untill that interface becomes available for "icmp and snmp" no more alarms will not generated if that interface goes down..
should it generate operationally down alert before getting unresponsive alarm.??
in case A, i used to get operationlly down alarm and in 3 mins, unreponsive alarm
in case B, i get only unresponsive alarm only.
can some one clarify my doubt.??
regards
RajeshFollowing is the detail of both the alert for DFM :
OperationallyDown:
OperationallyDown
Description:
Interface— Operational state of a card or network adapter is not normal.
System Hardware—Disk's operational state is not normal.
Trigger: Polling, or processed trap (see Processed SNMP Traps).
For interfaces, LMS will only generate an OperationallyDown clear event if the card is reinserted into the same slot, and if the module index is the same before and after the card is reinserted.
Severity: Critical.
Device Type: All.
Event Code: 1018.
Component Codes:
•Disk: 1077.
•Port: 1076.
•Interface: 1075.
•Chassis: 1074.
•Card: 1073.
•On any other Component: 1072.
Unresponsive:
Unresponsive
Description: Device does not respond to ICMP or SNMP requests. Probable causes are:
•On a system: ICMP Ping requests and SNMP queries to the device timeout received no response.
•On an SNMP Agent: Device ICMP ping requests are successful, but SNMP requests time out with no response.
A system might also be reported as Unresponsive if the only link (for example, an interface) to the system goes down.
Trigger: Polling.
Severity: Critical.
Device Type: All.
Event Code: 1022.
Component Codes:
•Router: 1101.

LMS 3.2 DFM Event Summary problem
Hi all,
I have two issues, and one question:
Issues:
1)
In the DFM portlet, under DFM Evnets Summary I see a list stating that I have 2 devices that have Event Name as Duplicate. When I click on the number 2, it opens up Device Fault Manager - Alerts and Activities, but it's show with no records. This has been like this for quite some time now... Any ideas on how to fix this?
2)
I've got 5 devices in DFM that are in the DFM Device Status as Questioned. They don't exist in CS, RME nor any other place. I went to DFM Device Management and under Rediscover/Delete, and was going to delete the devices from DFM, but the delete button is grayed out. How can I remove the devices from DFM?
And now for the Question:
I sometimes get an event in DFM Alerts and Activities that looks like this:
Name Value
Event_Description: InformAlarm
Component: [FQDN DEVICE NAME REMOVED]: Cisco Configuration Management Trap
Description: Cisco Command Monitoring -> Event Command Source: SNMP, Event Config Source: Running, Event Config Destination: Network TFTP
Sometimes it gets cleared by it self... So I'm a bit interested to find out what does this event mean? and how to get rid of it?
Any help is appreciated
GudvardurIt sounds like your DFM databases may have gotten out of sync with the rest of LMS. You can clear the first two problems by following the steps in https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-8796 to reinitialize the dfmEpm, dfmInv, dfmFh, DFM.rps, and DFM1.rps databases. Do not reinitialize the others.
As for the delete button being grayed out, this is expected when DFM is in auto-manage mode. To activate this button, go to DFM > Device Management > Device Import and disable auto-manage mode.
The config management trap you're seeing will occur whenever the config changes on the device. This event should clear on its own. -
LMS 3.2 DFM email notification problem
Hi,
I got a problem in a newly installed LMS 3.2 with the DFM email notification.
I can see the alerts appering on Alerts&Activities, but DFM would not send any emails.
I can get emails from other moduls of LMS. CS sends me emails from successfully backups.
The SNMP Server works fine. The settings are ok.
I already reinstalled DFM.
I have seen a thread exists on supportforum.cisco.com with the same problem.
Maybe anyone have the answer to this problem.
Thanks,
C8-NetzwerkThis looks like an issue I am currently tracking. I have written a patch which should correct this. You can get the patch by opening a TAC service request, and having your engineer contact me directly.

LMS 3.2 DFM Import of Devices Failed
Hi,
My name is Ashley. I have recently installed LMS 3.2. Everything is working fine, CM, CS,HUM, RME,IPM. However, I am not able to import devices from DCR to DFM.
On Auto Allocation Window, I get the following error:
Error in getting instance of TreeGenerator class
com.cisco.nm.trx.kdm.utils.DcrGroupSelectorTreeGenerator
Root Cause:com.cisco.nm.xms.ctm.common.CTMException: URN_NOT_FOUND : urn "ogs_server_urn" : Not found !!
On Manual Allocation, I cannot see any device in the DCR.
I have seen in a post how to reset the DFM database, but still does not work.
net stop crmdmgtd
cd CSCOpx\bin
del NMSROOT/objects/smarts/local/repos/icf/DFM.rps
del NMSROOT/objects/smarts/local/repos/icf/DFM1.rps
perl dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=dfmEpm dmprefix=EPM
perl dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=dfmInv dmprefix=INV
perl dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=dfmFh dmprefix=FH
net start crmdmgtd
perl dbaccess.pl install
Could you please help, I am running out of ideas. If the problem persists after a full server reboot, then you are probably not seeing this bug. Post the NMSROOT/objects/smarts/local/logs/DFM.log and DFM1.log as well as the brcontrol output after the full reboot.

LMS 3.2 - DFM Notification Services issue
My customer installed an LMS 3.2 on Windows 2008 Server with SP1.
Now the DFM Notification Services causing Problems.
We configured for a test the Event Set A and setup a Notification group with the following boxes ticked:
Alert Severity
Critical Informational
Alert Status
Active
Event Selection
Event Set: A
Event Severity
Critical Informational
Event Status
Active
And all Devices marked in the device selector.
At least the E-Mail configuration was set.
Now none of the Alerts or Events generate an automated e-mail, while the manual mailing from the AAD is working.
I restarted the LMS dmgtd and founf the following lines in the DFMLogServer.log:

I attached the output of pdshow command.
What is causing these Problem? A corrupt database or some invalid setting??
Does anybody has an idea?
Thanks in advance
FrankHi Joe,
thanks for your fast reply.
The corresponding SR is 614309645.
These are the TAC provided files and sizes.

05/06/2010 10:46 AM 7,112 ProcessEPMDataManager.class
The setup instruction from TAC:
1- Stop the daemon manager:
net stop crmdmgtd
2- Go to:
$NMSROOT/MDC/tomcat/webapps/triveni/WEB-INF/classes/com/cisco/nm/trx/nos/server
and backup the original files (either copy them to another safe directory or rename them to something like . Please don't retain the original extension when renaming the files.
3- Make sure that the patch files have the following MD5s:
MD5 (ProcessEPMDataManager$EpmDataQueueItem$epmAlarmHistory.class) = 08851732b0b3aac5bb0636cc3e8e3c10
MD5 (ProcessEPMDataManager$EpmDataQueueItem$epmConditionHistory.class) = 7933e55abb6ad604aa6ca8d3126ff189
MD5 (ProcessEPMDataManager$EpmDataQueueItem$epmEventProperties.class) = af3b72952ec59d59e30b0309af80a9d2
MD5 (ProcessEPMDataManager$EpmDataQueueItem.class) = a70f49f8eab6bdea007b4ddd79e3809f
MD5 (ProcessEPMDataManager.class) = a6ec024955bb638d8fec47694816a82a3-
4- Replace the originals in the above mentioned directory with these versions.
5 Start the Daemon manager:
net start crmdmgtd
I followed these instructions and still facing the problem.
I also searched for the libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll, i found them, but in a path not included in the Windows PATH variable. Therefore these files should not influence LMS.
In the NOS Log i still see these messages:
10-May-2010|15:01:10.027|ERROR|NOS|Process EPM Data Thread:Pooled Thread:1|EpmDataQueueItem|processEPMData()|.|Caught Exception in processEPMData(): java.util.NoSuchElementException

10-May-2010|15:01:39.747|DEBUG|NOS|Thread-5|EPMPoller|pollEPM_Wash()|.|No DB Exception in polling
Since these Messages depends on EPM Data i had a look into the EPMServer.log and EPM.log
The EPMServer.log is shortened and showing all entries from the last dmgtd start. After the usual urn_not_found messages and the init of the Groups the following entry is generated:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at com.cisco.nm.trx.epm.providers.alarm.AlarmUpdateListener.processUpdatedAlarm(Unknown Source)
at com.cisco.nm.trx.epm.providers.alarm.AlarmUpdateListener.run(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:595)
After that i changerd the logging of EPM to debug and attached the file as EPM_Debug.zip to this post.
Thanks a lot for your valuable support so far.
Cheers Frank -
Hi Joseph,
one of our client is using lms 3.2 and getting the following error in DFM -> device import -> Auto Allocation mode configuration.
Error in getting instance of TreeGenerator class
com.cisco.nm.trx.kdm.utils.DcrGroupSelectorTreeGenerator
Root Cause:com.cisco.nm.xms.ctm.common.CTMException: URN_NOT_FOUND : urn "ogs_server_urn" : Not found !!
I have gone through all documents available in netpro and done all tests mentioned for trouble shooting
following is the result of command " pearl resolver.pl "
D:\CSCOpx\bin>perl resolver.pl hyd-wbpo-cwks.wipro.com
Original name: hyd-wbpo-cwks.wipro.com
Hostnames/IP Addresses:

Here with I have attched the dfmserver.log, dfmserver1.log, dfmOGSserver.log , netstat -a -n -o -b, and output of PDshow.
One thing I observed when I am running the command "brcontrol" under "D:\CSCOpx\objects\smarts\bin>" it is not returning me any output.
All the devices in dfm are stacked in learning state at 10%. The SNMP RO string used in DCR is alos ok.

Does anybody know why this same kind of bug/error/software fault exist in LMS 4.2 as it was in LMS 3.2 ? Why after a while after discovery of devices (state is "Known") DFM drops the state of devices to "Learning" and it stucks forever. Restarting of daemon manager helps for a short time. It looks like the processing of faults stops a while after discovery is complete.
LMS 4.2 is running on Solaris 10, connected to other LMS in DCR Slave configuration.
Cheers,

Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 DFM Custom Traps
Hello,
We want to use Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 for Access Control List Monitoring. i.e. if we end the ACLs with "log" entry, we may send the ACL deny logs to the Ciscoworks as Syslog or Snmp Trap format.
With "debug snmp packets" command we may observe the packets are sent to the LMS, but the traps don't show up as alarms. Is it possible to observe any trap entry with LMS DFM Fault Manager by customizing the module, because we think the engine of the DFM analyzes the traps and shows some of the traps, not all of the traps are observable.
The command output is as below:
Thanks in Advance,
Best Regards,
Mar 2 10:28:30.028: SNMP: Queuing packet to 10.10.10.1
.Mar 2 10:28:30.028: SNMP: V1 Trap, ent ciscoSyslogMIB.2, addr 10.10.20.1, gen trap 6, spectrap 1
clogHistoryEntry.2.742 = SEC
clogHistoryEntry.3.742 = 7
clogHistoryEntry.4.742 = IPACCESSLOGDP
clogHistoryEntry.5.742 = list 191 denied icmp 10.10.10.1 -> 10.10.20.1 (0/0), 10 packets
clogHistoryEntry.6.742 = 69082382DFM consumes the traps and decides based on its built-in code-book what to do - rise one of the predefined Events or just silently ignore it. The best DFM can do is forward the trap as-is to another trap receiver.
Perhaps the LMS Syslog-Server can do what you want and lauch automated actions (like scripts or e-mail) based on certain criteria.
But you should take care of the underlying syslog file and keep its size under control with logrot.pl utility.
The online help of LMS should give you more details on the syslog capabilities or this link to the LMS 4.0 Administration Guide:

LMS 3.2 DFM Email subject customization question
hello,
In these options there are UserDefined fields. I would like the IP address added to our DFM email alerts and was wondering if that can be done by defining one of the UserDefined lines. If so, where do you modify these?
thanks!Hi,
By any chance did you manage to modify the User-define fields in LMS 3.2
with thanks

LMS 3.2 - DFM : dfm broker shutdown
Hi,
Customer has an "high severity alert" on aad.log.
You can find pdshow : dfm broker is shutdown and aad.log.
Customer has restarted process, then "high severity alert" doesn't exist anymore and pdshow is ok.
Is it a bug ?
Many thanks,
ElisabethThere are no known bugs with DfmBroker shutting down in LMS 3.2. Is this continuously happening, or has the restart fixed the problem?

LMS 3.2 DFM and PPP interface traps
Hello,
I have a problems with traps from PPP links. Traps are corectly send from device, LMS server receive traps, but these traps are not displayed in DFM. I'm using SNMPv2c (SNMPv3 doesn't work properly). Information about link down is corectly diplayed in DFM syslog, but I have not any informations in a Fault History.
Can you help me?
Regards,
MartinDFM doesn't process link down traps except to determine if a link is flapping. You will not see link down traps in the DFM Alerts and Activities Display. Instead, DFM will use SNMP and ICMP polling to determine if an interface goes down. This will not happen for all interface types, though. These PPP interfaces may be learned as dial-on-demand interfaces by DFM, and thus will not report when they go down. If these links should be up all the time, then you will need to customize an interface group in DFM to match these interfaces, then enable the desired threshold information for these interfaces. You will still not see link down traps in DFM, but DFM should show OperationallyDown events in AAD based on the polling it does.

LMS 3.2 DFM Fault History purge Job
Hey experts,
the Online Help for LMS 3.2 say "Data for Fault History remains in the DFM database for 31 days".
How can I increase or reduce the amount of days the data will remain in the DFM Fault History Database?
Is it possible to have only 10 Days in Fault History or can I set it up to 60 Days?
Is there a specific config file which could be edited for my purposes?
I know the purge Job for Fault Hostory but it purges the data which is older than 31 days, I can´t adjust this job.
thx,
PatrickNo, this is immutable. The only thing you can change is the TIME at which the purge happens.

Hi Experts, Recently I have installed LMS4.0 and we are facing issues with DFM. All devices are in DFM in known state. recently our link from HQ to branch went down and all branch devices were unreachable but we did not receive a sinlge alert from DFM and when I go to DFM to see if alerts are there but I dont see any alerts related to reachability..its only showing interface up/down message....even though i checked the availability report in HUM and uptime report in HUM it does not show there as well that device was not reachable or some downtime....
attached is the version of applications installed in LMS4.0... Please help me to resolve this issue ?MDF isn't something that needs to be configured. It is an architectural component of LMS. The most likely reason you cannot create VLANs is that LMS does not know what your read-write community string is. Discovery only populates DCR with the read-only string. Go to Inventory > Add/Import/Manage Devices and edit the credentials for your switches. Add the proper read-write community string, and then you should be able to configure the VLANs.

Cisco Prime LMS 4.2 DFM Devices Missing
Hi Everybody
Having manually added a device into the DCR and confirmed that it's in a managed state I cannot get added into DFM. Within Device Centre, it's collector status against "Data Collection", "Inventory", and "Fault Discovery" are all Success.
My Device Allocation Policy (Inventory > Device Administration: Device Allocation Policy) is currently set to Manage All Devices.
Running "geti Router" from within dmctl -s DFM returns all but the device in question.
I have manually deleted and readded and have also restarted service CRMDmgtd.
Many Thanks in anticipation.Hi,
can you try to remove it from DB as below ::
NMSROOT/Objects/smarts/bin/dmctl -s DFM invoke <Class>::<Instance> remove
Class => Switch or Router,
Instance => Device IP or Name.
dmctl> invoke Switch::X.X.X.X remove
then add the device back in LMS and see if it makes any difference.
Also try to increase the SNMP timeout and retry for DFM:
Admin > Network > Timeout and RetrySettings> FaultManagement SNMP Timeouts and Retries
Thanks-
Afroz

X61s- Unexplainable halving of speeds
I'm having a really weird issue with my wireless. Somewhere around the time when I switched from Win 7 to XP, my laptop wireless speed dropped by 60% from 10Mb/s to 4Mb/s. My other laptop is still doing 10Mb/s so it's not a network issue. And also it
