LMS 4.2 Soft Appliance - No Remote Backups?

Hi All,
I have a new installation of LMS 4.2 on the Soft Appliance and seem ot be only able to configure backups to the local disk?
There is no option to select any of the configured repositories like there is in ACS.
I can backup to /localdisk, after change to filesystem as below:
chgrp casusers -R /localdisk
chmod 0775 /localdisk
but the issue is, how to I get this off the box in an automated fashion so it can be part of our corporate backup schedule?
Thanks,
Aaron

To backup LMS you need to use the built-in backup utility. The target for your backup can be on a different partition / mount point. See this section of the admin guide.
Almost any database server or server which relies heavily on a database (such as LMS) requires that backup solutions be tightly integrated so as to preserve the data integrity.

  • LMS Prime 4.1 soft appliance backup

    Hello,
We have an installation of Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 soft appliance on VMware and i would like to ask if it is possible to backup the database on an external drive other than the 'local' LMS hard disk. Is it possible?
    Regards,
    Nicos

Same as windows or solaris. You can only backup to a local drive.
Making a script that does some compression (the backup is not compressed now, big waste of space) on the backup directory  and pushes it to a remote NAS is not that hard.

  • LMS Prime 4.2 Soft Appliance on UCS

    Hi,
I'm trying to install LMS Prime 4.2 Soft Appliance on UCS C220 M3 with RAID controller . I have configured RAID 1 and using
Cisco_Prime_LAN_Management_Solution_4_2.iso, but when i boot from KVM DVD I received this error:
Do you have any ideas how to process from here?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards

Sorry, NCS server (PRIME-NCS-APL-K9) was the option I was referring to. I didn't realize they specified the same image for UCS servers.
I do note that the prerequisites specify (here) "LMS 4.2 is supported on the UCS B-series blade servers (B200-M1 or M2 and B250-M1 or M2) and C-series rack mount servers (C200-M1 or M2, C210-M1 or M2, C250-M1 or M2, and UCS C460)". It could be that the ISO does not have the necessary drivers for your RAID controller in the M3.

  • LMS 4.2 – Missing messages in Remote Syslog Collector

Remote syslog Collector are dropping syslog messages - randomly. During analyzing we found out that syslog messages are stored in RSAC in file: /var/log/syslog_info
According to information from /etc/rsyslog.conf are the same syslog messages stored again in other files: /var/log/messages, /var/log/boot.log
In every file are missing the same messages. Load of RSAC and physical server is very low. When we send messages to more syslog servers (for example to other debian server in the same or different vlan) in the same physical server in vmware, we always receive every message.
We are using LMS 4.2.3 (Soft appliance) and for syslog messages RSAC 5.2 (linux in vmware). We receive approximately 200-300k syslog messages per day and RSAC drop approximately 100k.
Please what we have to change to receive all messages?
Why RSAC store the same messages more times?
    Thanks
    Milos

I think this should change what you want - if not, revert it to the default:
for security, make a backup of the following file and open it in a text editor:
    NMSROOT\MDC\tomcat\webapps\rme\WEB-INF\classes\com\cisco\nm\rmeng\csc\data\Collector.properties
change the following to a value that might fit your needs but be careful this can affect system performance:
        QUEUE_CAPACITY=100000
save the file and restart the following syslog processes:
in a DOS box check the status of the following processes (they should be started) and restart them:
        pdshow SyslogAnalyzer SyslogCollector
        pdterm SyslogAnalyzer SyslogCollector
        pdexec SyslogAnalyzer SyslogCollector
        pdshow SyslogAnalyzer SyslogCollector
now, try to re-run your report.

  • LMS4.1 soft appliance 1st aid

    Hello,
Im new with the LMS4.1 soft appliance and got some questions after 1st touch with it:
    1. Where can you get the documentation about the very special LMS-appliance-CLI? Is it possible to SSH to the linux-shell directly?
    2. What is the default root password?
    3. necessary Filesharing (e.g. for csv imports from old system) options:
    a) SCP: with pscp from a win-client to LMS I get "cant get vty from remote host ...". Are there working compatibility options for common scp-clients?
    b) Is it possible to setup an FTP server on LMS appliance?
    c) Has SAMBA been installed, so that it is possible to make CIFS mounts?
(1st workarround = FTP server at the win-client)
    4. What means the 1st "Access Denied" message after connecting via SSH and SCP successfuly?
    5. Where is mping located?
    Thx for hints,
    Steffen

Developed a working solution for SCP based file exchange with LMS-Linux-Appliance:
    LMS Appliance:
    carshell> shell
sysadmin # useradd -g casusers -d /home/scp -s /bin/bash -c "SCP user for file transfer from and to LMS" scp
    sysadmin # passwd scp
    sysadmin # ...
    WinSCP-Settings:
    1. create a new profile with the LMS-IP and scp user
    2. force SCP as transport. In SSH version-2, SFTP is the standard scp transport. So you will need a combination of version 2 and SCP, because SFTP is not installed at the LMS linux appliance.
The reason for the need of an extra user is: SCP transport needs a shell and carshell is not a proper shell to handle SCP commands beside Default Shell enforcement doesnt work with WinSCP.
    3. optional: preset remote dir: /var/adm/CSCOpx/files/rme/dcma/shadow

  • Cisco Prime Soft Appliance not saving changes to syslog.conf

    Greetings,
I'm having an issue with the syslog.conf file on a Cisco Prime LMS 4.2.4 soft appliance with a Solaris base.  My workplace uses local4 as the logging facility for its network devices, and according to a discussion I found on this site, I need to add the line:
    local4.info  /var/log/syslog_info
I have attempted this several times; we're approaching at least 5 attempts today.  I have attached text files created from putty logs where I've attempted to make the necessary change.  I appreciate any assistance the community can provide.
    Regards,
    Rob

    Hi, Afroz,
I really appreciate your assistance, but I'm afraid my hopes have been dashed.  The syslog.conf reverted to its original configuration.  I will go through my steps to be sure that I understood your suggestion properly.
I edited the syslog.conf to put all messages from local4 in /opt/CSCOpx/conf/syslog-entries.txt.  Then, I exited the shell to the console, issued the 'write mem' command, and closed the session.  Upon my reconnection, I found that my changes to the syslog.conf were not saved.
Did I make the correct edits in the correct places?  Another question, is this bug present in the versions of Prime LMS running Linux and/or Windows, or does it only exist in the soft appliance running Solaris?
    Regards,
    Rob
    Edit:
I'm reading the "Installation and Migration of Cisco Prime" PDF, and it gives me the impression that Cisco Prime is only supported as Windows, Solaris, and soft appliance installations.  Is that correct?  If it is correct, then installation of Cisco Prime LMS is not supported on other Linux distros such as Ubuntu Server, CentOS, Fedora, etc.?
    My thanks.

  • Creative ideas for Remote Backups and Working from Home??

Here's my problem in a nutshell:
My primary workstation is at my office where all my important files are stored. I backup once a month onto an external firewire drive which I (usually) keep off location in case of fire/theft etc.
In the future I'm going to need to conduct about 75% of my work from my office and the remainder from home. I'd like to be able to work on a file at my office. Go home. Sleep. And be able to work on the same file from home the next morning.
Any ideas for how I should do this? One solution I had was to run a nightly backup of my office computer (a tower) to a remote firewire drive at home (basically a clone). I could then plugin into the firewire drive with my laptop. This would also serve as a remote backup of my client's files.
Does this make sense? And if so, does anyone have any suggestions or pointers in terms of easy-to-use backup software. And how complicated would it be to set this up to a remote drive? And will there be problems with remotely backing us, say, a 500 MB file?
    Cheers!

What O/Ss are involved; are they both OS X? Home OS X, work Windows?
Many people telecommute by running the applications remotely, with a display server connecting their application to the system they're using. For instance, my work system is Linux; all applications use X windows as their display interface. My home system is OS X, which includes an optional X windows display server. Most of the time, when I need to work from home, I run a VPN client and use 'ssh -X' from an xterm under X on OS X to log in to my office system; and then I can run any application on my office system and have it display on my OS X system.
Similar solutions exist for most common OSs. Windows systems can run VNC or Citrix to export their display to clients that can run on OS X, Linux, or Windows; OS X can run Remote Desktop to export their display to clients that can run on Linux or OS X; etc.

  • REMOTE BACKUP & RESTORE on BlackBerry Protect for BB10 operating system ?

Does anyone at BlackBerry or anywhere else know if BlackBerry will introduce for the BlackBerry Protect on the operating 10 system, the >
REMOTE BACKUP & RESTORE feature as is available on the BlackBerry Protect on the
    operating 7 system ?
This is a vital secure cloud backup to the BlackBerry servers and was used by millions of BlackBerry customers on the BlackBerry Protect on the BlackBerry operating 7 system, but it was not included by BlackBerry on the BlackBerry Protect on the operating 10 system.
This is vital and needed most urgently so we can do secure and reliable cloud Backups and Restores from our BlackBerry 10 devices to the secure BlackBerry cloud servers.
All other third party applications to download and use as an alternative, simply do not work and are not stable or reliable or safe or secure.
This was the only totally safe and reliable and secure cloud Backup and Restore and BlackBerry must bring this feature back as either an update or as a new download, but it must be introduced in to the operating 10 software.
Please can anyone at BlackBerry or anywhere else tell me if it will be on the operating 10 software in the near future ?
Also BlackBerry must bring the ( SELECT ALL ) feature to its operating 10 software.
This was a vital feature on the operating 7 software that has also been left out.
This feature is vital when wanting to delete or transfer ALL files in a stored location on the phone or SD card.
If you have for example 100 songs or pictures or documents saved and you want to delete all in one hit, then you would just go in to that folder, for example, just the picture folder if you want to delete all pictures and then you would press >
( SELECT ALL ) and all the contents of that folder you selected would be deleted, in the same way, you can also click on > ( SELECT ALL ) on the contents of that folder to transfer those contents in one hit using Bluetooth to another mobile device or computer.
At this moment when you use a BlackBerry 10 device, this feature is not there and you need to go in to that folder and manually select each and every item that you want to delete or transfer, one item at a time, which is very time consuming and frustrating.
Does anyone at BlackBerry know if this >
( SELECT ALL ) feature will be available for the BlackBerry 10 operating system in the near future in a software update ?
    Can anyone please help ?
Any information on my above two issues ?

I know BlackBerry is working on their cloud service but no word on when or just what they will offer in the future.
As for "select all" that would be nice but haven't heard anything about it coming. It's not in 10.3.1.

  • I thought iCloud was a remote backup system...

I thought that iCloud was a remote backup system for my iMac.  Have just tried to activate it, gone through ID rigmarole etc, but iCloud storage says 5G of 5G available.  How do I get it to back up my files?  (I don't have an iPhone or iPad, just want to back up my iMac remotely.)  Could anyone please assist?  Thank you.

iCloud is not a backup storage alternative. If you want to remotely backup your Mac then try services like Sugarsync, MediaFire, or ADrive.
iCloud is essentially a means for backing up iDevice data for contacts, calendars, bookmarks, and mail settings. iCloud then automatically syncs any changes to that data to all your devices wirelessly.

  • LMS 4.2 virtual appliance: How to export archive devices configs on a network drive

    Hello,
I will install a new LMS 4.2 based on a virtual Linux Red Hat appliance.
I would like to export archive devices configurations based on /var/adm/CSCOpx/files/rme/dcma/shadow on an external drive.
Do we have embedded tools on LMS 4.2 Linux to share a network drive or do we use NFS commands ?
    Thanks for your help.
    Patrice

there are no such embedded tools.
I am awaiting Ciscos return with a solution for bringing the backup out of the VA (Virtual Appliance) and to a safekeeping place.
Same issue all around - the VA is now a client only !
I saw a hack around the SCP user inorder to use WinSCP for faster file browsing etc, and that might work, but I want a supported fix for this issue. And by that I mean Cisco needs to tell me what can be done and how its supported.
please share any knowledge you might get on this topic.

  • New to fios - HD soft looking and remote question

Just got FIOS installed yesterday. I'm an IT Tech for a living so I've gone through a bunch of settings and options and not matter what the HD picture looks about 10% or more softer than the picture I had with Optimum. I have a 52" 1080 lcd. I've tried hdmi and composite, I've made sure the box is set to 1080i, I've raised the boxes sharpness setting to max, etc. Where should I go from here?
Also, the remote... With both the FIOS one and my logitech harmony if I'm watching a channel and hit the UP arrow to see what's on the next channel it goes down and vice versa. Why do the arrow keys work opposite?? Never did this on optimum. In case I'm not clear enough... If I scroll down with the arrow keys it scrolls up in the channel list - 800, 801, 802, etc. If I scroll up with the up arrow it goes 800, 799, 798, etc.

If you think you're viewing HD channels using a composite connection then you're seeing an SD version of that channel.  Composite is only SD.  The sharpness setting only applies to SD signals. Have you reset the settings on the TV itself?  They probably will need to be different from your old provider since the signals are not precisely the same.  Also, make sure your SD override is set to off.
The guide scrolls as it is shown on the screen, which is a lower channel number above a higher channel number.  The "next" channel you expect to see may be higher in number but below the current item on the guide, and that's the way it scrolls -- down the guide, not up it.  Up shows a lower channel in the guide.

  • NO REMOTE BACKUP & RESTORE ON BLACKBERRY PROTECT ON BB10 OPERATING SYSTEM --- READ THIS POST

    Dear BlackBerry,
First of all I would like to establish that I am a very loyal customer of BlackBerry, so anything that I will say in this letter is because of the personal concerns shared by me and millions of loyal BlackBerry customers.
BlackBerry have launched the new BlackBerry Classic Q20 phone.
Apart from the reintroduction of the Navigation and Track pad that is above the physical keyboard and slightly bigger size.
What are the real differences between this new BlackBerry Classic Q20   and the BlackBerry Q10 ?
The main issues and concerns are that BlackBerry have reduced and in fact left out several features on the BlackBerry 10 operating system, for which was available on the BlackBerry 7 operating system, such as on the BlackBerry Bold 9900.
Some features may not be vital or important, but other features were vital and important and by BlackBerry leaving out these vital features, it beckons the question as to why are BlackBerry limiting the software functions and capabilities of the BlackBerry 10 operating system as to what the BlackBerry 7 operating system has in place.
Do not misunderstand me in what I am saying, BlackBerry is still the best in what it does and I love the product. And the BlackBerry 10 operating system does have features and functions that the BlackBerry 7 operation system does not have.
But the whole point of improvement is that BlackBerry keep the best and vital functions that are available on the BlackBerry 7 operating system and actually include those features and functions in to the BlackBerry 10 operating system. That would make sense and move forward.
There are two vital features and functions that I will now mention that are available on the BlackBerry 7 operating system but was left out of the BlackBerry 10 operating system.
Firstly, there is a feature on the BlackBerry 7 operating system, called   "SELECT ALL"
This feature allowed the user to go in to their,  photos or pictures or videos or music or documents or phone contacts folders and if the user wished to share all of those items in that particular folder to another phone device with Bluetooth or a computer with Bluetooth, or to delete all of the items in one go within that folder, then the user would not need to manually click on each item within that folder, which is time consuming especially if there may be in excess of one hundred items in each folder or more than one hundred phone contacts within the contacts folder, where the user needs to now manually click on each item using the "Select More" feature that is the available feature on the BlackBerry 10 operating system and is very time consuming.
But within the BlackBerry 7 operating system there is the feature and function that is called   "SELECT ALL"
This feature allows the user to "select all" of the individual items within the folder of their choice or the phone contacts folder, with just one click and be able to either delete all of these items or to share transfer all of these items to another device or computer that has Bluetooth.
Can BlackBerry bring this feature to the BlackBerry 10 operating system as an update as soon as possible ?
The next feature and function that was on the BlackBerry 7 operating system but was deliberately not included in the BlackBerry 10 operating system is the >
Remote Back Up   and   Remote Restore     on the  BlackBerry Protect.
This cloud back up and restore feature was vital and in the history of BlackBerry with Blackberry's advanced encryption and security, this cloud back up and restore feature was always safe and the security and protection of data being backed up and restored to and from Blackberry's cloud has NEVER been compromised or hacked or accessed in any way what so ever by anyone. And this made Blackberry's reputation for security number one and gave the loyal BlackBerry customers even more confidence in the BlackBerry product.
Now I will go in to detail why it is vital that BlackBerry must include and introduce this feature that is available on the BlackBerry 7 operating system but it is not available on the BlackBerry 10 operating system.
Firstly, the current BlackBerry protect that is available on the BlackBerry 10, has some lovely fancy features, such as remote locating of the phone and remote wiping of the phone, should it ever be lost or stolen.
The fact is, this is a good feature, but if the phone was lost forever or indeed stolen, then that's it, the device data is also lost forever and the only data that would be accessible to restore on to a new BlackBerry 10 operating system device, would be what ever the last back up that was available that was made using BlackBerry Link on the computer.
Now, doing a phone back up on BlackBerry Link on the computer, is all very well and good, but there are many limitations to this.
    Firstly,
if the owner of a BlackBerry 10 operating system device was to be at home or in the office and connect their BlackBerry 10 device to their computer to BlackBerry Link and do a full device Back Up. Then that device is now only Backed Up at that point and is only Backed Up to date at that moment.
Now imagine after that Back Up was made, the computer in which BlackBerry Link is installed on and the Back Up was made, imagine the situation where that computer broke and all the saved data was lost or destroyed for ever or that computer that had the BlackBerry Link backed up data was stolen and never recovered ? Then everything that was backed up from the BlackBerry 10 operating system device to that particular computer using BlackBerry Link, would now be lost for ever. Which means that the Back Up that was made using BlackBerry Link is pointless in this above situation.
    Second Example,
This next example is even more realistic and is vital in my argument for the Remote Back Up and Remote Restore.
Imagine for example it is a day that you decide to do a full phone Back Up of your BlackBerry 10 operating system device on your computer using BlackBerry Link. Everything is now Backed Up only on that computer and is only up to date at that moment.
Then later that day, you need to travel to another town or city or state or country, for what ever reason and you may be away for a day or several days or weeks.
While you are away, the computer that you used to make the last full Back Up using BlackBerry Link, is at your home or in your office, hundreds or thousands of miles away from where you are with your BlackBerry 10 device.
While you are away, you input new contact details or new calendar schedule entries or new memo notes or new reminders or all of these above vital entries in to your phone.
You do this the next day when you leave and then throughout your business or personal vacation, you continue to input vital information in to your BlackBerry 10 operating system device, such as new contacts, new or amended calendar entries, new memos, new tasks. All the vital information that you need stored safely and secure.
Then your BlackBerry 10 operating system device is either lost or destroyed or stolen. But whichever, it is now gone for ever and all of the NEW vital information that you have in putted in to your BlackBerry 10 operating system device since the last full Back Up that was made using BlackBerry Link on the computer that is hundreds or thousands of miles away, has now been lost for ever.
What is the point in in putting any new data or information in to your BlackBerry 10 device if a situation as mentioned above was to happen ?
Where is the benefit of only the BlackBerry Link Back Up in this above situation ?
Now if the device was a BlackBerry 7 operating system device such as the BlackBerry Bold 9900, then if the above situation was to happen, if you was away from your home or office since the last full Back Up of your device was made on a computer.
If you were hundreds or thousands of miles away and whilst you was away on vacation you need entered new contact details or new memos or new reminders or new calendar entries or amendments in to your BlackBerry 7 device. Then you can immediately after in putting these new items of information and data in to your BlackBerry 7 device, you can do a Remote Back Up  to the BlackBerry Cloud   using any connected wireless network or your mobile phone network using your data that is on your sim card to do this Remote Back Up.
Then if after this Remote Back Up was done, if the BlackBerry 7 device was lost or stolen or destroyed, then you could simply go and purchase another BlackBerry 7 operating system device and input your primary email address that was used to register the previous BlackBerry 7 device, in to the new BlackBerry 7 device and then once set up, then open up BlackBerry Protect and click on Restore and select the last saved cloud Back Up and then all of the data that you last Backed Up over BlackBerry Protect Cloud is now installed on to your newly purchased BlackBerry 7 operating system device.
This was a vital feature for total security and peace of mind of all BlackBerry users.
All BlackBerry users do NOT want to download any third party application that makes claims to offering this service as any third party application is NOT reliable and NOT safe and NOT secure.
Only the Remote Back Up and Remote Restore on the BlackBerry cloud that is available on BlackBerry Protect on the BlackBerry 7 operating system, is the only proved secure cloud back up for BlackBerry and actually works precisely and is totally safe and secure.
So I now ask the question to BlackBerry,
Why is this vital  Remote Back Up and Remote Restore feature of BlackBerry Protect that is available on the BlackBerry 7 operating system, is not on the BlackBerry 10 operating system ?
Will BlackBerry please listen to its loyal customers and please introduce the two above mentioned features as an update to the BlackBerry 10 operating system.
These above two mentioned functions and features are vital and it's what millions of loyal BlackBerry customers want installed on their BlackBerry 10 devices.
Please can someone at BlackBerry please come back to me and tell me if these above two features will be introduced to the BlackBerry 10 operating system as an update or download ?  As its what we all want back.
    Thank You.

Ditto on both points. Meanwhile I use the solution of a third party backup.
